[Q] Dropped my phone in the rain. Problems - Motorola Atrix HD

Hi guys. I have a hardware problem with my Atrix HD.
It was raining hard awhile ago. As I got out of my car I dropped my phone on the ground and it got submerged in water. It didn't turn off so I just wiped it. After awhile, I recognized some dark spots on the screen. So I turned it off. When I got home, I turned it on and it was working.
But there are problems.
1. The lower part of the screen has some darkening.
2. It thinks that a headphone is plugged in. I tried plugging in my headphones and played music. The sound comes out through the headphones. But when I remove it, it still thinks that its plugged in.
3. The microSD card then removed itself (based on the notification that the card was removed without unmounting) I re-inserted my card and it worked.
The phone is now turned off. Should I open the phone up and let it dry in rice? Thanks in advance.

Opening is very easy. Use the link he posted and set it in rice. But since you waited you may need to get a new screen.

Yes happen to many time when I was drunk lol but yes put it in a container or something like that with rice for about 24hrs worked for me on my lg nitro HD, lg g2x and atrix 4g

Thanks for the link. I did the rice trick and everything is now working, except for the headphones thing.
I can't see anything inside the 3.5mm jack that will make the phone think that headphones are in.
But if I plugged in one, sound comes out through it.

Get one of those small oral brushes and some pure alcohol. Spray in the headphone jack and clean with the brush

Do it with the phone off and just a little bit of spray. It will evaporate off

Abyone else have issues with the speaker?

Even on my bed in my room alone the volume level has to be at around 70-100 percent to hear everything corectly. Below 50 percent than forget it!
Is this just me or do all captivates do this?

Odd .. mine seems just dandy
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Mine seems to have a short in it... some times the speaker will go out and then return after a quick tapping on the back of the phone
I just this minute received the warranty replacement for my Captivate on which the speaker did not work. It would sometimes work for the ringtone on an incoming call. It usually would work when I started to listen to mucis but wouldn't make it through one song before cutting out.
Can't wait to find out if I have an improved GPS!
Does anyone ever have like a static type of sound with certain MP3s or when talking on speaker?
Yeah its weird.. Hopefully we have some sort of benchmark to tell if we have functional speakers.
I've had two replacement speakers from Samsung. Still the speaker goes out from time to time and have to tap on it. Right now I have a lil peice of paper keeping pressure on it behind the battery cover. Seems to work for me
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
My speakers goes out all the time definitely a problem with the captivates pushing on it gets it working I use to have a small piece of a old credit card between the cover and speaker just enough no to muffle the sound. Worked for awhile just got tired of having to mess with it when the phone would freeze.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
First thing top try would be to tap the speaker firmly. I know it sounds weird but tell that to ATT

"This is from a Samsung Rep plug and unplug your headset 6 times then blow into the hole reboot phone." Hahahaha I actually thoughtthis worked but after a day same problem.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Update**** after failed attempts to get a free replacement from att and since I'm out of warranty. Feeling a little confident successfully replace the glass on a iPod touch I took the captivate apart following a members tear down. After taking it apart and getting to the speaker I noticed before unscrewing that it was loose. So unscrewed it messed around with the housing didn't see anything wrong popped it back on place and screwed it back down. I also added a couple of paper squares I cut out and slipped them onto the top part of the phone when you snap back the back cover to give it some added support. I had my speaker go out countless times during the day. its been a month and haven't had a speaker issue.

[Q]Repair Headphone Jack

Huhu,
some weeks ago it start that i had problems with my headphone jack. sometimes it stops playing music when it get touched while i put it in the pants. and now i can be happy if the smartphone register 1 of 100 times i connect my headphones.
someone of u ever had the same problem and repair it himself?
pls let me know because that s*ck ;] and sry my bad english
I think the best and easiest thing to do to fix this is take it in and have them replace it.
Get the pocket lint out. Seriously, lol. Mine was doing the same thing, so I looked in it with a really bright flashlight and saw pocket lint pressed against the bottom

Repair Headphone Jack
Had problems with D1 phone jack, and D3 also. To me it is a matter of thickness of the male jack. I have real nice Sony ear buds but the jack cuts out, move it and is good for short while. I pinched the jack to make it oblong, very desperate move. Cuts out much less, but still kinda crapy. I have an older Sony ear buds and the jack is thicker and have no problems. Even at the gym.
Bottom line is cheesy, cheap parts there on that Motorola.

This happened to me twice. So, I guess that should be +2!
The plug would stop snapping in. I thought for sure I had broken the jack. But after a little close inspection, a flashlight, toothpick and can of duster I was able to get it working good as new again.
some days ago i was looking around the internet and find these
http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Motorola-Droid-3-Teardown/6108/1
so some days later i was funny enough to open my Droid3, too.
and then i was able to get some more pocket lins out of the headphonejack.
i was thinking its already clean but these wasnt visible from the top.
and now all is woorking fine

[Q] Dropped Samsung Galaxy S Advance in water

hey,
I dropped my Samsung galaxy S Advance into my soup...(don't ask how..)
I dryed it with a paper but then i noticed that my sound stopped working and sometimes the screen responds really slow or not at all.
then i started using a hair dryer after i removed my SIM-card, sdcard and battery but it's still the same.
Anyone got any suggestions on how to fix it?
Thanks in advance.
Put it in a bag of rice over night. The rice should absorb any remaining liquid. That or Put it in abag along with some of those little packets of beans you get with new shoes.

You must to put it in rice immediately, do not try it to use it, it was recommended to removed the battery immediately.
I'm saved 2 phone with that solution, Nokia X2 and Nokia E51.
I put it in a bag of rice immediately, now waiting for the results.
Thanks for the fast replies guys!:highfive:

glad for you!
this is also a proof that our phone is well built. One night i lost my phone. 5 hours later i found out that it's missing, so came back looking for it. Found it in mud underneath the snow (it was snowing that night), could find it just because it was still ringing!. I immediately took the battery out, and when i came home i disassambled the phone to let it dry. 48 hours later i assembled it and it was working properly, but the job was not over cuz some vehicle obviously run over it while it was on the ground, so gorilla glass shattered. After replacing gg it's perfect again!

you were lucky that you are not rust, hence the rice does not save you.

rice aside, if the terminal is oxidized by water necessary to clean the damaged electronic connections with isopropyl alcohol before drying.
If you hace oxidation problems, maybe you can try the specific products to remove oxidation.

Water Damage

So last week I decided to get into the hot tub with my N6. I've been letting it dry out in a bag of instant rice. Everything works fine except for a few things. The power button turns up the volume and the media sound doesn't work. Also when I make a call I can't hear anything and they can't hear me. Would it be worth sending it to someone to repair or is it dead?

As someone who works in the mobile repair field, first let me say that the rice trick is a myth. Fact is, phones are sealed too tightly for rice to be effective. Use a hair dryer or heat gun on low setting. Second, the worst thing you could have done, was to turn the phone on. You should have brought it to a repair center immediately. Chances are, it's beyond repair at this point. By all means, still bring it to a trusted repair location. However, whatever has shorted out will need replacing if possible.
Never, EVER turn a wet phone on. That is sealing its fate as a dead device. Like I said, if you don't have access to a heat gun, use a hair dryer. Apply heat, all over both sides of the device for 45 minutes to an hour. Then bring it to a repair center ASAP.
Rice does not work. As I said phones are sealed too tightly and the moisture absorption properties of rice are not sufficient.
I used a hairdryer also. I didn't turn the device on for several days. It sat in a warm dry place for at least 3 days before I put it in the rice.

Depends what setting you used. A hot hairdryer is worse than doing nothing because of the water evaporates, it travels as steam all around the internals, condensing and spreading potential damage.

When we get water damaged devices, we use a dehydration oven. The devices will sit, at approximately 150 degrees for several hours. Then we open and clean all internal components. Success is hit or miss but it mostly depends on how soon we get it after the incident.

Repair.
Or directly drying in the sun.
But.... there may be already some corrosion on the contacts.

Stylus stuck in phone

Wondering if this has happened to anyone else. I went to use the stylus today, but instead of ejecting when you slightly push it in. It jammed within the phone, and now I can't eject it. It is slightly depressed in.
Also last night I woke up to the phone vibrating. It was just plugged in and laying on my night stand. It was having some phantom touches where it wanted me to use iris scan, or a finger print to unlock it. So I unlocked it and went back to bed. It did the whole vibrating thing again 3 more times. Before I finally just unplugged it and threw it on the bed so I wouldn't here that rattling noise if it went off again.
I know I'm still waiting for my replacement from T-mobile for the rattling earpiece. I just can't believe this phone has so many issues. I never dropped it or damaged it.

There is a little o-ring in the entrance to the s-pen hole (for waterproofing). If the pen is in the phone and you click it in real slow, it can get hung up on that rubber ring. You now have to carefully pick the end out with a needle or tack or something to free it. In the future try to eject the end as fast as possible.
There's a guy that had that problem. It's the SPen. You can try another from a friend and it will work fine and dandy. Seems like the pen may be crooked enough to cause problems, and the push button gets stuck.

Dude, we aren't talking about putting the spen in backwards. We are talking about putting it in normally. It's like the spen click top part isn't re-clicking back out.

Same here, not had one issue with this phone.
I went to t-mobile they had a staple which helps get the stylus out without scratching anything. They said they couldn't give me a replacement because they don't have the phone. Called samsung, they sent me a shipping label to mail out, thankfully the place is in my state only 2 hours away. So I'll ship it to them, they said 1-2 days for shipping, 5-7 days for processing, 1-2 days for shipping back. Kinda pissed they wont send me one first then I send them the broken one in the same box. I did ask him that and the guy said nope.

You could just ask them for another s pen. I think it's the clicker that is stuck in the pen and not the pen that is stuck in the phone

You are correct with the second sentence, they wont send me one first... I tried and tried.
I can also confirm it's an issue with the stylus. I've never forced or jammed my S-Pen into it's slot. What happens is the clicker gets stuck in the down position.

For you all to peruse. Your not alone
http://m.gsmarena.com/the_new_spen_can_get_stuck_in_the_galaxy_note7-news-20241.php
So how is this hard to get out? I just checked on my Note 7, and without pushing the clicker in for it to pop out, I could slide my fingernail into the top and pull it gently out, and my finger nails aren't that long.
Edit: Ah, just watched the first video on that link; seems it's an issue with the S-Pen itself, when it's 'clicker' doesn't work at all, the end of it goes in further than it physically can with the spring/click/whatever mechanism working correctly.

Update: I was going to return the spen to samsung but after keeping it out of the phone for 1-2 hours and clicking it a bunch of times, it seems to not get stuck anymore.
My theory is that it has to do with something like a rubber gasket maybe for the waterproofing of the spen?
