Hi
A friend of my messed up his droid 4. He updated to ICS but something went wrong and the phone is dead. After that he put somes sbf that he didnt remember.
The phone when come to me had the screen in Fastboot Failure. I put the VRZ_XT894_6.7.2-180_DR4-16_M2-37_1FF with the ICS Tool and with RSD and i fix that error but the phone stuck in black screen after the motorola logo.
I think that the phone inside has some files of the last update 217. I tried to install the update trought the stock recovery but didnt let me.
I tried to open the system.img of the 180 putting the files of the 217 but when i flashed gives me errors and stucked in fastboot failure.
Is there a way to put the latest updates files on the sbf 180? I can flash only trought rsd or fastboot.
Sorry for my bad english.

I did it but it is the same error. Black screen after motorola logo. I think that the phone is totally bricked.
Have you tried wiping data?? I had a similar issue for a while, it turned out it was mismatching settings or something.

any fix? im in the same boat. black screen after moto logo
Hmm I dont believe its a hard brick but just a soft brick caused by flashing the wrong sbf which left you in this state
Try downloading the sbf tool
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-4-hacks/217255-droid-4-utility-ics-only.html
FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS AS YOU WILL HAVE TO DOWNLOAD THE PROPER SBF AND PLACE THE FILES IN THE TOOL
6 months later the Droid 4 is ALIVE!!!
I flash to jellybean with this utility:

Only ICS
If you mean the caveat that you unlocked bootloader, use the information to a htcmania forum, and as if you can not make a link to there without censor me,
is simple, get files
1. - Fastboot.exe
2. - logo_signed (must be obtained from the firmware, exploring the zip file)
sorry for my bad English
Donwload files
http://db.tt/tak1LsuU
note: logo_signed file is of the firmware: Brasil.en.BR
Procedure
1. - Put the downloaded files in a folder in the root "C" on your pc, (I call this folder Android for example)
2.- Put the phone in fastboot mode (power button and Vol - squeezing them a few seconds until the screen fastboot mode) and connect with USB the phone to pc
3.- Opening a cmd screen, we stand there, I'm in cmd C:\Android\
4. - cheking with command fastboot devices
5. - Performed the command fastboot flash ulogo logo_signed
6. - Conducted after ending command fastboot reboot and that's it
7.- enjoy

Hi, all. A friend gave me his son's RAZR M (Verizon, US) phone which he totally bricked. I've tried to reinstall a recovery partition, etc. using Motofail2go and Motopocalypse, to no avail. The Daemon runs and just hangs there. I have no way of knowing whether USB debugging was enabled on the phone. The phone stays at:
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S)
10.9B(*) (sha-1e9f557, 2013-03-22 09:18:22)
eMMC Info: Size 8GB
Device is LOCKED. Status Code: 0
Battery OK
Transfer Mode:
USB Connected
Fastboot Reason: Flash Failure
usb connected
Any ideas how I can get past this?
Thanks in advance.

since you can get into fastboot your should be able to salvage this. Can you get into stock recovery to verify if your rooted or not? what is happening when you try to run Motopocalypse to unlock the boot loader? Have you tried using Matts utility http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2249773 to do all this work for you?
I had a similar error when I tried to downgrade my Electrify M by RSD'ing an early version of software. (I found out later its not possible to RSD "down") Anyhow, I was able to get rid of the "flash error" by flashing a new boot image. This "tricks" the bootloader into thinking all is fine. There's some info on flashing boot images here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2340764
As for Motopocalypse / MotoChopper etc., they need to be ran from a "booted" phone. If all else fails, RSD back to stock.

You Dont Need USB Debugging To Be On To Do AP Fastboot, Device is LOCKED. Status Code: 0 Means That The Bootloader Is Still Locked.
Also Try To Use A Droid RAZR Utility.

I may be delayed but... if need be and the battery is dead you could buy a factory cable or the team black hat factory adaptor.... if budget is an issue make your own found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1077414) using a spare USB cable it does work I have made one used on the xt 894 and xt 912 I have yet to use it on the 907 yet I'm sure it works the same...

is it just me or have i been seeing this problem alot here lately
Plug it in to your PC and perform a "Fastboot reboot" command in command prompt. If it loops back into Bootloader again, then you're gonna have to tell us what you did. If you tried to flash a custom recovery or use RSD Lite with a locked bootloader (like you have in your picture) then I'm afraid there is nothing you can do. You could try using mythtools to unlock bootloader while you're in fastboot (the screen you're stuck on now), but I'm not sure if it's possible...
Edit: Just realized it says "Security version downgraded" near the bottom. You tried to RSD Lite with a locked bootloader. I think you're hard bricked if MythTools can't work its magic
Neightbor08 is correct I assume. But in theory it will NOT do anything from that screen as it is on error.
He need to go to a fresh fastboot mode by pressing Power + Both Volume buttons until the phone reboot back again into Fastboot mode.
Once there he can try to unlock the bootloader again when is done you should see Device Unlock Code 3
Good luck!!

Still Recipe Failure in AP Fastboot
First of all - great job!!!
This Utility works for me - but I have to test three (!) USB-Ports on my Computer 'til the biggest files (system.img, ...) where flashed without problems!
Now I have the actual STOCK-ROM on it - but I have a Problem (OK - I have it still before this Utility)...
At startup of the DROID4 there is this Error:
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S) (Recipe Failure)
0A.77
...
I hoped, that this utility will fix this, but it don't.
If I push both Volume-Buttons and Power, then Release Power I can start the STOCK-ROM manually without any problem - but I had to do it always...
Does anbody knows how to fix this error at startup? Maybe I must edit / copy a special config-file or something...?

For AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S) (Recipe Failure) try
1) Fully charged phone
2) Used Motorola cable
3) Upgrade Moto drivers to latest version
4) Use newest Droid 4 Firmware
5) Used RSDLite 5.7 (newer maybe better) with the following settings:
Flash options: Restart after flexing and TI Blank flash
Use image files and delete files on exit
Worked for me !!!

Thank you - you made my day!!!
And here are the details, I used (for all the guys and girls out there which have the same problem):
- Fully charged phone
- A normal USB-cable (it was from a samsung-device) - because I have no motorola-cable-
- Drivers "Motorola_End_User_Driver_Installation_6.3.0_64bit.msi"
- Firmware "VRZ_XT894_9.8.2O-72_VZW-18-8_CFC.xml.zip"
- RSDLite "RSDLite6.1.6.msi" with the setting -> Flash options: Restart after flexing and TI Blank flash
- Important! The whole flash-thing takes max. 20 minutes! The longest time it's the system.img and other big files. But I think my problem was, that the USB-Port I used first had problems with the upload of this great files to the phone. So...if your flash takes longer as 20 minutes and "hangs" at the system.img -> forget it on that USB-Port and choose another one!
I hope this can help people who have the same issue.
Great forum - great threads - great software - great people - thank you

The cause of the problem with the Recipe Failure was I - I used RSDlite and wanted to flash the Oiginal ROM, but had problems with my USB-Port (this is what I know NOW after all that tests and a lot of wasted time).
So because the flashing "hangs" at system.img for more than 40 minutes I canceled this...and so the error occours...
Thank you!
i was able to restore my Droid 4 after failing to boot up completely.
A few questions about bricked Droid 4.
1. My droid 4 is stuck at "writing 'system'" for more than 20'. Is there something wrong with the process? I tried both option 1 (wipe) and 2 (not wipe) but neither of them work.
2. Can I charge bricked phone by using wall charger when AP fastboot screen failure appears ? It says "Battery OK", does it mean it's charging?
3. If it charges and when the phone is fully charged, I'll try plug it in USB 2.0 port (instead of 3.0 - maybe that's problem). However, if plugging in USB 2.0 port doesn't solve anything, can I still be able to unbrick my droid?
Oh, anyhow, right now my phone is stuck at:
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S) (Flash Failure)
0A.77
Thanks in advance :fingers-crossed:

Just successfully unbricked my Droid yesterday thanks to the utility and fastboot cable I bought on eBay. I'm not too sure but maybe my phone was bricked because of windows 7 64 bit and USB 3.0 :silly:
Bootloader locked
I am currently running 4.1.2 mentor's rom (bought the phone this way) and the bootloader says it's locked and running fastboot oem get_unlock_data returns with unsupported command. Must the bootloader be somehow unlocked first? I was looking around and apparently Modaco Superboot is the only way to unlock the bootloader. Has Modaco Superboot been tested? Is it necessary or will this work as is? Thank you!
edit: The download link I saw for the Modaco Superboot XT894 is a survey, junk page, not legit. Disregard post. Just read the FAQ, apparently you use Safestrap.

After battling with Mentor's ROM, I flashed it using this script and 4G LTE works for the first time. I almost thought my phone was bad. Thank you so much!
You might want to add that ia32 libs must be installed due to adb.linux is a 32-bit app. Simply enabling IA32 emulation in kernel is not enough. ldd ./adb.linux returns missing 32-bit libs if not installed. I had to set up a Debian 64-bit system on another partition with libc6-i386 lib32stdc++6 and I think something else (perhaps lib32ncurses5 and similar)
Using a gentoo 64-bit system with a no-multilib profile will not work. Just wanted to share this in case anyone else had the same problem.
