[Q] Galaxy S4 problem - Galaxy S 4 Active Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear all,
After using the S4 (Unlocked 9500) for 6 months, suddenly the phone suffered from the following:
- Network loss, not even emergency calls nor other network related matters are accessible, the phone shows the circle with the crossing line whether it has a sim card or not, I tried every single setting and none work. Also removed the micro sd.
- Flight mode can be enabled but can only be disabled from the settings and not from the startup menu
- Bluetooth cannot be disabled/enabled
- Phone not recognized by PC/ODIN even in download mode on several pcs
- Weird behavior where phone acts by itself
- Keyboard problem, you press a letter it presses the next letter and doesn't stop pressing.
- Reset phone from recovery works but clearing cache gives and error and restarts
Most probably the phone has a corrupted rom (radio/modem is lost along with several other problems) and I cannot root it and install a new rom since no access to the phone via PC/Odin and Mobile Odin needs root and root not available without PC.
Any advice?

Maybe post on the S4 forum and not the S4 Active forum?

[Q] Deactive Remote Sim Mode

Hi guys,
After many hours and days of searching google for a solution to this I'm still stumped.
I have a Galaxy S i9000 running Gingerbread 2.3.3 (had same problem with previous versions also) and I am trying to connect it to my Nokia 616 car kit in "hands free" mode, however, it keeps automatically connecting via "remote sim mode". I can confirm there is no way to disable rSAP (remote sim mode) through the nokia 616, nokia staff were not very helpful either.
There was an option in my old Samsung Jet (i think it was running touchwiz) bluetooth settings which allowed me to switch remote sim mode on and off. The only setting that exists on my SGS is after I connect to the nokia 616 i get the "Deactivate Remote Sim Mode?" option from the drop down bar... However, when I do so, the connection to the car kit is lost and upon reconnect it automatically connects using "Remote Sim Mode", regardless of how many times i try an "deactivate" it...
The only posts I could find about deactivating remote sim mode tell me to hit "Yes" to "Deactivate Remote Sim Mode", then to switch bluetooth off and then on. This does not solve my issue. Problem persists.
The only thing I can think of now is somehow finding perhaps a command line instruction that I can run from terminal to disable remote sim mode or even change a config file somewhere to deactivate it.
Does anybody have any idea how this can be done or maybe just give me a lead on where I can search next, I've hit a dead end with this now and im sure it can be done, somehow.
Thanks heaps for your help.
I'm sorry I cannot help you with this problem, but at least you're not the only one: I have exactly the same problem, but then with a Nokia 616 and a Galaxy S2.
I want it to connect with the normal HFP, so I do not loose the internet connectivity on my phone...
SOLVED Finally!
So after a while of searching then giving up, then contemplating ripping out my nokia 616 car kit and setting it on fire, I decided to revisit this issue and here is how I managed to disable/remove/deactivate remote sim mode or rsap... please note that I havnt really tested to see if this affects any other bluetooth functionality (i dont think it does though) so do at your own risk...
I ended up flashing my galaxy s with Darkys rom 10.2 extreme edition which gave me some nifty options of removing some stock bluetooth apps... I noticed there were a number of bluetooth related apps there, Bluetooth.apk , BluetoothOpp.apk, BluetoothPbap.apk, BluetoothTestMode.apk and the devil himself BrcmBluetoothServices.apk... at first i uninstalled them all except Bluetooth.apk, my phone starting throwing some bluetooth error which was expected, these errors disappeared after I rebooted the phone... I noticed that the 616 no longer connected using rSap (victory!), however, I was almost certain that not all of the apps i removed above would be causing the issue, and im sure that if anything having them removed would cause issues elsewhere so the process of elimination began... I reinstalled them all again, rebooted my phone, sure enough remote sim mode was back, then one by one i uninstalled, rebooted, tested, etc etc untill i came to the conclusion that the app responsible to rSap was in fact BrcmBluetoothServices.apk, after uninstalling it and rebooting Hands Free mode works a treat, I still get a "download error" when i try to download my contacts to the 616 but Im not to fussed about it, at least i can still use all the functionality of my phone in my car now, internet etc etc... as mentioned earlier I dont know if this will have any effect on the other uses for bluetooth so do be careful, not a huge issue because it can be easily reinstalled if nessecary using DarkysRom Tool...
Now I am sure this can be done on a stock firmware, you would most definitely need to root the phone and then find some sort of system app manager to hunt down BrcmBluetoothServices.apk and remove it...
Thats it! If anybody can work out how to successfully download contacts to the nokia 616 please post it here or pm me.

[Q] Help?! Unrooted Nexus One 2.3.6 - user data wiped out

Level 1
6:54 PM
- Summary: N1, 2.3.6, when not in use shut down with no apparent reason. when turned on showed the "Welcome To Nexus One" initialization screen.
- Background Details:
A 2/2010 (unlocked, used on T-Mobile) N1, that was updated regularly, and worked on 2 wireless networks. about 3 weeks ago was updated OTA from 2.3.4 to 2.3.6.
Was experiencing lately (after last upgrade) occasional drops of WiFi connection. Also experienced faster battery drainage, including (rarely) a fast going to OFF, even without time to orderly shut off.
- Detailed Description:
Today it was on, fully charged, received a call and it worked fine. Saw about an hour later it went off. I thought this is due to the fast battery drainage I experienced lately.... I connected it to a charger - but saw battery almost full. Seems it has got through a hard reset - or rest to factory settings. It shows the "Welcome to nexus one" screen (touch the android to begin).
(At this point I've tried no further yet - waiting for your responses)
** It may be that the power to my wirless router was disconnected several times at the time of the Nexus One crash. I use secure connection to my WiFi, but also have cellular data connection.
** Additional info: Has 3 google accounts on this phone.
** The backup / restore option was ON sometime in the past, and almost sure it was lately OFF.
- At this point I've tried the following - none helped:
- recharging the battery to Full and restart
- change SIM to another operator (worked in the last 2 weeks, after the 2.3.6 update, on both networks, both in roaming and home networks)
- The device has the stock ROM, bought unlocked directly from Google, usually operated on T-Mobile USA, and was never rooted.
Cannot see the device version from settings(since cannot see the settings screen), but see the following when in the HBOOT screen:
HBOOT-0.35.0017
MICROP-0b15
RADIO-5.08.00.04
Oct 12 2010
- My questions:
1. Is there a way to restore my user settings?
2. Can I try the RECOVERY option to retrieve an older OS version, and would it retain my user data?
3. What is the procedure to recover the latest google stored data for my account?
4. Is this a known problem?
Thank you

[Q] Few issues for which I need help

Hi all,
I have been using my galaxy note n7000 for an year now. From last couple of weeks I have these following issues with my phone
Whenever I go to a roaming area, my screen flashes with a message "Refreshing SIM Data" and immediately I lose the HSPA connection. This message keeps popping up on my screen as long as I am in that roaming area. I have another phone (HTC) and it doesnt happen like that in that phone
Now this one is very scary, Sometimes when I am connected to 3g/hspa my screen flickers with bright horizontal bars and immediately loses the whole network (no net, no calls). And after a few seconds phone automatically restores the connection and everything is fine again. But may be after half a minute this happens again and phone gets switched off. When I switch on the phone again, it would have lost all battery and I am greeted with a low battery message. Wierd part is that if I charge my phone it shows the current battery level again. This thing happens probably twice or thrice a day.
third one is also weird, I can browse internet, download apps from play store, unconditionally. But if I try to update an app then things wont happen and I will get a message saying that app could not be downloaded due to an error 495. I did find this as a known issue in play store but in my case some apps get updates successfully but only some would not.
I have searched for this in whole of XDA Forums, but none of them worked. I tried clearing caches of play store etc. I even installed 2 to 3 rooted roms (both ICS and JB) but no luck. Now I am back on stock ROM but issues still persist. I also contacted network provider (Vodafone India) they seem console me by telling me that everything is fine from their end !!
Story end
2 seems to happen due to an issue with battery. Try a different battery
3. for error 495.. if you are rooted and have cwm.. then boot into recovery and do a wipe dalvik cache and try again. it usually works after that,
1. no idea about this.. i dont get any such messages.
thanks !
2. Yes, I will do so
3.I tried all these, infact wiped everything more than twice
1.
First got to applications then select plays store and clear data. Then do the same for play services. Try. If still no go the wipe dalvikcache from recovery and it works. I get this error every now and then,
I think you are running an old firmware, is that correct?
In general go to service centre and warrantee.
If you dont mind warrantee, root, make efs backup on and off the phone and pcodin a newer firmware.
If wipe and such, do only on safe kernel.
1 - I have not see that so cant help - Sorry.
2 - A lot of us are now having that problem .. and it is not particular to any ROM .. it is happening with all ICS and JB ROMS's and started only 2 - 3 weeks earlier for phones purchased more than a year ago.. am also looking for a solution on this.
3 - I have not see that so cant help - Sorry.
AW: [Q] Few issues for which I need help
1. Have you tried selecting the network manually when you are in a roaming area?
2. That's a battery issue. Maybe the battery is a bit weak and does not provide enough voltage when nearly empty. I also recommend trying another battery.
3. No clue, sorry.
Sent from my revived Galaxy Note
hi all, thanks for your replies.
I have managed to get rid of /find out the cause of these issues,
1. This is a network specific issue and was not related to phone. It has something to do with our roaming settings in network provider. !! I called them up and spoke to their technical team, so I am expecting some resolution soon
2. Bought a new battery -- problem solved (thanks guys!)
3. This is also a network related issue. ISP was blocking certain web requests !!. I changed my sim to other network and my google play just works fine. Reported to Vodafone.

[Q] WiFi Pairing (Xperia V)

Hey, I need a little help with this here.
1. I flashed Jelly Bean (9.1.A.0.490 Stock Generic-Intl) on my Xperia V yesterday. Before that, when I had ICS, I had paired my laptop and phone via WiFi, so that I could have access to the phone's data whenever, without having to run for the USB cable all the time.
2. Under "Trusted Devices" in Settings --> Xperia --> USB Connectivity it says there are no trusted devices (which is correct, considering that I have NOT paired my phone with my laptop after flashing).
3. Sometimes (especially after shutting down my laptop), in the notification bar I see that the phone is "Awaiting Connection" from my laptop (which is strange, given that I have NOT paired my phone with my laptop after flashing). Tapping on that notification does nothing. It is swipeable, though.
4. I tried to pair my laptop with my phone over WiFi after flashing and I get an error message (see the attached screenshot for the error) on the phone, while PCC says "Failed to connect over WiFi" (or something to that tune). (Now this is really weird, given that PCC should be able to read/write into the protected part of my phone's memory.)
5. I have long pressed the notification, and then tapped "App Info", which took me to the app in the Apps, under Settings. I cleared app data, and force stopped it. Then I restarted my phone, and tried to pair, with the same result. (In fact, the screenshot was taken after this attempt.)
Lastly, I have made some conclusions:
1. Somehow my phone thinks that it is paired with my laptop, because the message appears in the notification bar only after shutting down my laptop. However, I cannot see my phone in my laptop, nor see that the phone has connected with my laptop anywhere in the phone.
2. Solving this the easy way would require me to root my phone, and delete the file myself. But I don't want to root, not just yet. Maybe in some time, but not just yet.
Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks in advance! (I promise, upon my honor, to hit thanks on all those posts that help!!)
Kartik.
Ps. I know it got kinda long, but I thought that it would be better to expose all my cards, for your convenience.
Solved
Ok. Here's what I did.

Latest Comments/Issues on ROM (CM10.1 AOSP 4.2.2 Jellybean)

I'm running the latest (cm-10.1-20130806-Albinoman887-holiday.zip) ROM on my AT&T Vivid. I can't post in the Dev forum b/c I don't have enough posts I guess. I'm usually lurk.
Anyway, my issues w/ the current build are:
1) When the phone reboots, I usually don't have any signal bars showing. I put the phone into airplane mode, and then back to normal, before the bars show up. The phone *does* still dial-out though.
2) Somewhat related to #1, the person on the other end of the phone is unable to hear me during the 1st phone call after reboot. I know this is a known issue - I usually call voicemail right after rebooting to "fix" it.
3) I have custom mp3 ringtones saved in /storage/sdcard0/Ringtones. I assign them to various people/default ringtone - and they work properly. This setting is saved through reboots. However, if I connect my phone to a computer and enable USB storage (unmounting the virtual sd card), they are not available even when USB storage is disabled. They all revert to "Unknown Ringtone". I have to then go in and manually set them. A reboot does not fix this.
Overall, the ROM is smokin & I love it. I've ran quite a few on this phone & this is by far the best.

The first two are already known bugs that are OVER talked about...
try putting ringtones on the system partition so they dont get unmounted
