What does this spell out for the N1 future--thanks goodness for Cyanogen and MIUI devs
Just a depressing thought on a boring work day

Fits said he will still compile Gigglebread builds for the N1 even though he sold his because N1 receives the most traffic within the euroskank repository.
In fact, there is a new build out now.

Seems like all rom bases are covered that can be achieved. Like you said we have AOSP, MiUi and old sense roms to choose from. I don't see anything else needed. At least we don't have a bunch of winzip devs cluttering up the place.
Agreed,
I still have nandroids of new and old sense roms and would be content to run with the nightlies till the next N1 comes out.
Haven't researched much and not AOSP savvy--so, not sure if ICS could even run on the current N1.
There are no proper Sense ROMs to choose from, only eViL's ages-old Desire port that is completely functional, all other ROMs suffer from various parts that aren't working properly or at all.
There is still AOSP, CM and MIUI.
Well, it's pity that Sense ROM developers are gone, otherwise I might still be using N1. But I guess such is life. At least MIUI has some good Sense elements to it.
I've always liked MIUI from last fall when I started flashing it. Weekly updates and always moving forward. Kinda like Cyanogen. Has gotten a little unstable for me lately. Not sure why.
Interested to see their new phone, maybe 1.5ghz
So you no longer have your N1 Jack? What did you get?
I am waiting for the big boys--4.3/5 screens and big/fast processors. Problem is only 6 months into TMO contract.
My biggest issue with N1 is typing. Screen sucks and is very unstable or my fingers are just too fat.
I do remember someone (maybe you) mentioning getting a bigger screened phone and really liking the typing on it.

Well the Nexus One came right at the time when touch screens weren't fully developed by HTC. even on my HD2 screen kinda sucked compare to others. Unfortunately I think we still need the qwerty keyword for heavy text usage i just wish they were android options of the dell venue pro.

I am also excited for these new phones, although I think a 5" might be pushing it for me. I am kinda curious if the 720p+ capable screen is going to make it into a phone. Either way, I want to get a qHD screen minimum. Luckily, I only have about 6 months left on my TMO contract (then I get to decide if I want to ride it out with a possible switch to AT&T or jump ship while I still can). Here's hoping that the Nexus 3/Prime/Whatever is as good as I am hoping it will be.
As for typing, have you tried swype? Due to the way it works, fat fingers really don't affect it. It did take me a day or two to get used to it, and probably about a week until I considered myself extremely proficient. But now it drives me nuts using a regular on-screen keyboard.

I still have the N1, but now it's my wife's, for several months already. I convinced her to move from her old HTC Touch, and she agreed to take the Nexus. I bought myself the most cost-effective phone on the market back at the time - which was MyTouch 4G. I don't like the bulky 4"+ phones, Nexus was fine for me in size, so MT4G fits very nicely. It's a head and shoulders above Nexus in everything, but mostly - in existence of proper Sense ROMs.
Actually, since my wife complained about the crazy screen and the not-so-nice for her MIUI, I got her Desire S. She really likes Sense UI, and doesn't like MIUI. But I got unlucky - the phone is bad and needs to be replaced, so it'll be another week or two until she gets a functional one. And then I'll sell the N1.
I got a free MT4g in Feb when I changed carriers from Cincinnati Bell to TMO. Son uses it and likes it alot. I do like Sense, but as you said they are not real stable yet, but close. Evil's is good and Micro's was pretty stable for me. I did pretty well on abhi's RCADS one and loved the Weather Lockscreen. Made me just want to keep unlocking phone.
That's interesting. I got my wide the MT4G earlier this year. I really liked the phone, but for the fact that it always seemed sluggish next to my N1. I rooted it, and removed some of the bloat, but it still never felt quite as smooth as my phone - she even noticed the same, from the odd occasion that I let her use my phone...
The MT4G also had a big weakness - the inability to swim, so my wife now has a G2, which neither of us like...
That's funny DR, my son swims with it all the time--no issues--
He is happy with it--to him it is a phone and mp3 player--weather and some internet
Might add he is 30--not a kid
The N1's screen looks nicer though, when we hold them side by side and brightness is all the way up. I don't like the 4 hard keys feel as much though

You still rocking the n1?
Hi, Just got me a shiny new xperia z3c. yay. Other than the fragility of the sandwich glass and possible camera being slightly sub par, my main concern is root. Coming from a htc one with viper installed, and using exposed and xprivacy I'm use to rooting. But with all the info flying about, I'm a little confused, even after searching through and reading posts.
I don't mind the stock sony rom (23.0.A.2.93, no updates to .105 found by updater as yet) on EE uk network, though Id like to remove some bloatware.
My main question is. Can I flash a stock rom and have root? has this been done? or is the bootloader/drm still the main issue. I need xprivacy running asap.
Thx all.
There is a root method posted by Doomlord in the Original Development sub forum but it does require an unlocked bootloader which results in the loss of DRM keys. If you don't mind losing the proprietary post processing algorithms then you can go ahead and unlock then root. Users have done this and installed Xposed plus modules.
Re: software version. I'm on build .105 and am on 3 UK, though I'm not sure if the provider has any influence on software updates. I guess it could do if your phone is locked to EE, I bought mine unlocked and put my 3 sim in.

Thanks for the reply. I may just wait a short while to see if the bootloader issue can be solved. I know it will, just not when. Though after reading through the process, the drm keys are saved, but I'm still a tad bit reluctant yet.
Oh, mine is a contract phone, so I assume it maybe locked to EE, hence no update on the firmware until they release one.
As I said, surprisingly I do like sony's android layer edit, tho some tweaks are required. I was use to a fair bit coming from venom roms, but not bad. I've read some bashing on how old the layout looks.
I've read a lot more about the fragility of the rear and front glass and manufacturers of such glass, has got me worried. I will need to buy a case, but will ruin the look of the phones nice design. Why cant they make a stronger phone..grrrr Waste of R&D time when you put a case on a phone.
Yes I'd be patient. Lots of users are asking when this will be available but we have to give the devs time to get their hands on the device and then to cook up the good stuff, be they other root exploits or custom ROMs. I prefer the AOSP look personally but Sony's skin isn't that bad and has good bits like the power saving modes and FM radio support.
I also share your concern over the device's hardiness, especially over how easy it is to scratch the back glass. At present I'm using a slim terrapin case: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00...200_QL40&qid=1413234393&sr=8-1#ref=mp_s_a_1_1 with the matte front screen protector provided in the retail box. I'll use these until some 9H front and back glass protector sets come out as that's what I liked on my z1c.

Well I've had my g4 for a little over a week. I thought I would post my experience with the G4. I rooted it the other day after a few failed attempts at flashing using the low effort root. That didn't work for me. I had to flash a stock image using the LG tool. I probably missed a step when trying the low effort root. I kept getting some sort of security error in a boot loop. But then I installed TWRP and via TWRP rooted the phone. This seemed to be the easier method for me. Either way it is rooted now, so I can begin using Adaway again. I also uninstalled T-Mobile's My Account. Initially, I tried Titanium Backup (TB) and couldn't uninstall or back it up. Then after checking my backup folder I discovered that it actually was backed up, but for some reason TB said it wasn't. I then went to the debloater tool and disabled it. Debloater said my phone does not support block mode. I then backed up My Account via TB again, with TB informing me it was not backed up. I then just uninstalled it. After looking at all the permissions this thing has, I just don't want someone having that kind of unfettered access to my phone.
Right now battery life is pretty good, But just like new car smell, I know it won't last. Love the camera, better low light performance than my Galaxy S Blaze.
Same here, almost a week. I didn't have any issues with the Low Effort Root, but I had the same problem with TB. I couldn't uninstall anything with it, it said it finished the operation, but it was still there. I got Rom Toolbox's app manager to work, but with a glitch, when I uninstalled all the T-Mo spyware it wouldn't remove the app listing but it changed the size to 0kb... disappeared after I uninstalled again + rebooted. I finally decided to go with xTreme Rom, I'm loving it so far!
I use Greenify and it saves me a ton of battery, loving this phone so far.
will my lg g4 h815 have root and 6.0 rom and twrp recovery 2.8.7.0 and its amazing no lag good with games
Welcome to the LG G4 family! I got this phone over the summer and have been loving it ever since. I don't think I'll even need to flash any other ROMs when AOSP/CM builds start coming out. This thing has been smooth as butter for me. Much better Android experience than Samsung's in my opinion.
After 4 months of ownership.... (random thoughts in no particular order)
Screen is decent (though, nothing tops Sammys AMOLED IMO), camera is very good, battery life is decent, but not great, Morphie case sucks ass (blows apart and ejects phone on every drop, AVOID!), Phone experience is very underwhelming, XDA development for this phone is dismal / almost non-existent, Will most likely not buy an LG phone again....

I wouldn't call nearly daily driver CM12/13 non existent >.> If you have T-mobile you only have Samsung or LG for top android flag ships to finance. Samsung phones just have stock roms + minor modifications so LG is the best you're going to get on T-mobile.
Also you bought a $80 case for a phone with a removable battery? The battery can fit in your wallet easily.

Personally not a fan of CM / AOSP / "Basic *****" ROMS (and their ****ty camera apps)....and the Note 5 has way more custom roms and hasn't been out nearly as long. I'd rather have an HTC at this point.
Yes, i got a morphie case. All the hipsters I work with have them on their iThings and no issues. Seems to be a poorly spec'd build for the G4. I got the mega memory card, not the spare battery promo, so no spare battery for me.

If you count modded stock roms with modded stock apps tons of custom roms then sure. Though by my definition the G4 is more unique due to AOSP variants on top of modded stock roms.
Hey, I'm thinking about getting this phone, but could use some clarification. Could I in some way achieve unlocked bootloaders starting with the latest version? As in, if I were to buy the phone now, would I have any chance of being locked out of installing a custom recovery and rom? I'm coming from a galaxy s4 and am kind of paranoid because of how the bootloaders are impossible to unlock past a certain firmware.
Thanks in advance, sorry if it's a dumb question
Unlocking the bootloader is not very difficult, but for this device it comes with a high price: you will lose important camera functions, such as noise reduction. Rooting and installing custom recoveries is relatively easy. Hence several Sony roms have been customized since they can be run without unlocking the bootloader. An example is SLiMM. I don't think there is much development going on for non-stock based roms like cm for the Z3C.

Seems like a pretty solid phone then, I'll probably pick it up. Thanks for the clarification!
Well 'solid' is not the first description that comes to my mind, because actually the device is somewhat fragile. The back is made of glass, so it can easily crack (sometimes spontaneously). Also the front and back can come loose. Fortunately Sony service is generally good. So check your warranty.

Thanks for the warning, I did a little research and saw that spontaneous cracking was a big issue, sometimes rendering the phone inoperable. Would you say that a decent case and screen protector would fix the fragility issue? If so which? And would you still recommend the phone?
Thanks in advance
I love the Z3C because it is the only small high end phone with lots of development. I protect it with a glass protector on the front and the back and a Compact Puro case.

For this new phone anything I should do to prep?
How is the durability?
Picked up a default case from one plus. Should that be fine? Or should I consider an otterbox.

You better buy a helmet, and strap yourself in, because this phone is gonna blow you away!
No, seriously, I wouldn't say there is anything special you need to do, to prepare. Since you stated you are going to put a custom ROM on the phone, do the usual due diligence and read the general process on unlocking the bootloader, flash TWRP, etc. (plus you probably want to read up on dm-verity and understand what it is). But most of that is not too different from modding other Android devices - and you may in fact find it's even easier with the 3T (as Oneplus seems to be very friendly to the mod community).
Know how to flash the stock update files (return to stock), etc. I always read for at least an hour or 2 when getting a new phone. To me, that is the basic required research. And heck, it's fun to read about your new toy.
Other than that, you already bought a case, and the phone usually comes with a screen protector (although reports vary on whether it comes with a plastic or tempered glass protector). But you may want to research if you want a particular screen protector.
Other than that, the phone will arrive, just throw in your SIM, and you should be good to go. Well, on that note if you are using a smaller carrier (or buying version not specific to your region, etc) read up on whether you will need to manually input the APN.
You may even be pleasantly surprised at the stock ROM. It's amazing clean, to the point that some folks are calling the phone the spiritual successor to the Nexus line (since the Pixel basically priced itself out of any such comparison).

Well, I suppose that depends on how rough you are with your phone, and what level of protection you prefer. I'm take reasonably good care of my phones. I don't baby them, but I don't abuse them either. Keep it in my pocket, with the official bamboo case, and it gives me sufficient protection. But the default cases are thin, and really more for just preventing scratches; and don't give any protection from impacts, drops, etc.. If you want impact protection, go for something else.
I can only speak to the durability after about 3 months, as that is how long I've had mine. With the official bamboo base, and the plastic screen protector it came with, the phone itself still looks virtually as good as new.

Thank you for the reply
Have been reading up about it. Pretty much researched between the pixel and s8 and the oneplus. Couldn't pass up the price over the hardware. Figured I would hand it off to the wife when the 5t comes on as long as my experience is good with the 3.
I did read their was support issues with the 2 series after the 3 came out. Hopefully oneplus continues support somewhat when the 5 comes out. I do understand that they want to keep costs down and would want people to move to the newer hardware though.
I am pretty good at Maintaining phones but in the second year of owning my turbo, I literally dropped it about one and half feet and the unbreakable screen broke. ? first ever time dropping it too!
You did give me some great ideas for reading. I read up on the unbrick post and have downloaded the latest stock firm from oneplus. I've never dealt with dmverity before, so definitely checking that out. Ive noticed Magick has that option but never checked that box though.
For unlocking I would think going into bootloader (fastboot), could simply just run the unlock command right?
Anyways, thanks again!

That is what we all hope. History hasn't been kind to Oneplus on this point. But it's practically a startup company. So who knows how this may change going forward.
Worst case, the dev community will keep this device alive for years to come, through custom ROMs. It's currently the most active device on XDA, so I feel good on this point.

That is correct. The phone will be wiped when you unlock, but that is pretty typical, so probably not news to you.
There is also a slightly annoying warning screen that will come up every time you boot the phone, saying the bootloader is unlocked. It comes up for 5 seconds, or you can press the power button to bypass it. No way to be completely rid of this warning screen, without relocking the bootloader (which you should not do with TWRP, root, etc. or you will soft brick).
Short story, the bootloader warning screen is something you live with, if you want to run with a modded phone (TWRP, root, custom ROM, etc.).
Everything on the 3T in my eyes is 10/10
OOS is my favourite Stock Os I have came across, yes pixel owners have pure stock and on the dot security updates but OOS offers the same experience with some extra customisation and flair.
Screen is great for the size, welcome to AMOLED. Yes it is a pentile display but it has no impact on daily use or image quality unless you come from a qHD. If you find the colour to punchy turn on sRGB.
Audio is pretty dam good through headphones even from the bottom speaker I was surprised that it had some depth. Pocketnow on YouTube has a great review on audio performance.
Performance well it is now the second fastest Chip but it will fly with everything but I will say try Blu-spark kernel and be blown away, 6GB of ram gives peace of mind if you have every app open and chrome tab insane that nothing with redraw upon opening.
Camera performance is where I would say it loses a point but not the actual sensor but more of the post processing as any still shot will look gorgeous, but it struggles with movement so if you like to take photos of kids or animals it will be luck of the draw. My tip is hold the shutter and take a chain of pictures with auto HDR disabled.
Charging is blazing fast I no longer charge overnight by the time I get up and ready I have plenty to go a day and more.
I was first very dubious of this phone when I ordered it as I came from Galaxy S3, Xperia Z2, Z3 and then Z3+ which destroyed my Sony loyalty. When I opened the great looking box and picked up my 3T I was like WOW and will stay with this brand till the day comes they piss me off. Some excellent craftsmanship that makes you want to keep it naked I know some OP2 owners got upset at the short support but I have always been into flashing and tweaking and they are not short of some great official ROMs. So that is my take a bit much but worth giving it a good shout and please stay away from oneplus's official forum as it is full of s***. :good:
the phone is great, well built, good battery, fantastic signal strength, I have not had any camera issues it does what I expect of it. the menu is a little different to stock so finding some settings is a learning process.
What I don't like is the alert slider with no way to turn it off or disable it also the customer support is unfortunately still terrible but community support is great.
