Root.zip can be flashed in stock recovery. If you want permanent cwm,you must flash CocoreE kernel with Universal Kernel Flasher.
-Download CoCore E kernel and extract 'kernel.bin.md5'
-Flash it with using UKF

Yep if you can't enter recovery, flash the firmware back using ODIN as you can still go into download mode. Steps are here.

Ofcourse it boot normaly after rooting. What you expect to be after root? It just gives you root permissions. Nothing is changed in visual.
To get CWM use CoCore, UNZIP IT and transfer KERNEL.BIN.MD5 to phone, install Universal kernel flash and some explorer with root permissions like ES FILE EXPLORER. Open Universal kernel flasher, and open kernel with it and install it. Both things you have in Play store. Before doing this you need to root it.
P.S. To enter recovery turn off phone, and power on by holding Volume Up + Home (hardvare key below screen) and Power at the same time untill phone vibrate.

Apparently his stock recovery isn't working so he can't flash anything
Yeah, try to download a firmware from sammobile(ublph) (lqg) and flash via odin, since your downloading mode still works

I am sure that you two was not using right combination of buttons, or you did it wrong. Do like I wrote. VolUp+Home+Power, untill it vibrate.
He need external SD card, in stock recovery you can't install anything from internal memory.

Thanks for quick reply. It looks that it is there (in fact, I never seen stock recovery before, but now it looks different like cwm), but I can access it only via RomManger... Is there other way how to boot in stock recovery? I can boot in download mode (menu + volume down + power), but in this mode i can't do anything ... :/
edit:
I found [GUIDE] How to reboot in recovery, so maybe it is not only my problem

Good. Yeah, its different, and rommanager isn't compatible with stock recovery. You won't be able to flash anything but samsung-signed updates.
Not able to boot to recovery is well known. Good you found out. Have a look here..http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2157105 for an easy way to enable three button combination :good:

Hehe, if I set reboot to recovery in RomManger after updating from cwm back to stock recovery, it reboot me in to Stock recovery
Btw, will flashing that 2MB file from "[HOW-TO] Enable Three Button Combo [RECOVERY]" increase binary counter? I know about TriangleAway, but for sure...
And one more question please. My story...
- I flashed pre-rooted 4.1.1 fw via odin
- than i installed RomManger and via it I install CWM
- than become 4.1.2 fw so I flashed this pre-rooted fw via odin - everything was good, phones restart after flash but boot in CWM??? Everything works good, but I was thinking, that with new fw the CWM will gone?!?
Trying to understand how android works (this is my first android phone, before that i had only symbian devices), i read many topic about s iii mini and it looks, that this phone in "unusual" android phone

Yeah, it will let you reboot to recovery but that's all. No flashing, no backups or anything. Kinda sad to install an app just to reboot :silly:
You probably have to use triangle away after that file even though the files are taken out of service-firmware, but it only takes a minute.
These firmwares doesn't normally include recovery..don't know why. Thats what I'm used to from other models, but not for this one.
Hi,
I am currently on rooted 2.3.6 Gingerbread (I9070) and will upgrade to the JellyMOD (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2170925).
I've been advised to do a Nandroid Backup of my system via the recovery menu (Volume up+Home+Power button) before I upgrade.
I did this but the option for Backup doesn't appear.
After a quick research I installed Rom Manager via google play. Tried to install ClockworkMod Recovery via Rom Manager but it says my I9070 is not supported.
I'm a noob here and hope someone can help in getting the Backup section to show up in recovery mode.
Thanks.
Note: In about phone it shows:
Baseband version: I9070XXLD1
Kernel version: 2.6.35.7-I9070XXLD1-CL1067329 [email protected] #2

1. You instaled Jelly Bean ROM on Gingerbread. If you want it you need to flash JB with Odin, you have guide here - search for it.
2. We only can use custom recovery that is instaled with kernel, because those two share same partition. So no other way to install it, like on some other phones.
3. You probably got bootloop after installing JellyMOD on GB, so I suggest you to flash GB again. Or JB if you want it.
4. After geting back to GB, you can go get that recovery back and restore your prevoius ROM.

Since my phone is already rooted is it ok just to install the kernel?
After a search I found this [GT-I9070][Kernel][GINGERBREAD] Stock Kernel + TWRP Recovery for Galaxy S Advance (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1873119&highlight=kernel+gingerbread).
Would it be ok to just install this via Odin?
Not with odin but yes, that is what you need. Get universal kernel flasher and use that tool to flash kernels. Odin way will increase binary counter.

JellyMod is base on JellyBean offical rom so it can't install from Gingerbread you have to update to jellybean with Kies or flash it with odin. Then get to recovery mode flash CWM and do what you want like root or flash kernel or Jellymid
Sirry for my english
I downloaded and installed 4.1.2. I want to put an CWM and then root files, but I am getting stuck on the CWM install.
Apparently there are 2 files: CWM.zip and UPDATE.zip. The process, as I understand it, is to boot into stock recovery mode,
install CWM.zip from the external SD card (I don't see an option in recovery for installing from the internal SD card. Then during the install press the home key and the screen simultaneously and the phone supposedly goes into CWM, from which you can install UPDATEzip.
So, I booted into stock recovery mode. I installed CWM.zip and pressed home and the screen. Nothing happens.
After that, I thought maybe the ROM Manager would do it. But after downloading that from the app store, it turns out there isn't a version for the 9070, just the 9000. It offered a choice of manual, older CWMs, but they wouldn't install either. Then ROM Manager told me I needed to root first. OK, so I rooted. But how do I get a current CWM?
P.S. I read the Complete Guide to CWM that is on XDA. Very informative except it left out how to install it
Thanks

By installing kernel with CWM embended. CoCore is our only kernel with support now.
Root phone.
Install CoCore-E, Harsh build. (Unzip it, use kernel.bin.md5 with Universal Kernel flasher, and you will need some root explorer like ES file explorer to use file with Universal kernel flasher.
Thanks for the advice. I am rooted. I have ES File Explorer. I am concerned that the Harsh build (via the link you put there) is a test build. Can I trust it to be stable or is there an earlier, tried and true build? I was thinking of using 7.0 CWM Touch that is listed in post #4 on the cocore thread.

1. That is stock recovery.
2. Root your phone, HOW: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jij-Bssni1s
3. Install CoCore HOW: Download it from here, unzip it and put kernel.bin.md5 to your phone (remeber where you put it). Use one with CWM, it is most similiar with stock one (that you do not get confused) Then install Universal kernel flash and ES File explorer. In Universal kernel flash thread is explanation how to use it, read it.
4. Reboot to recovery like you did (now it will not be stock one) and than you can install custom rom.
You can't install custom rom from stock recovery, that is why you need to do all this.

If that is correct than install custom rom for gb only. Your solution is to repartition sd card. That's why you can't see it. I had the same problem, and I am telling you from my expirience. Search xda with "how to repartition sd card". Like I told you on my first post on this thread.

Yes. For begining would you read my post that you just quoted. JetMOD is GB ROM. You can't just install GB ROM over CM. You can't even install JB ROM over CM (you need to change kernel first).
For JetMOD downgrade to GB, root and install custom recovery and than JetMOD.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100642
If you want to be on JB still, then download your firmware from sammobile.com and flash it with Odin. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1985398
Do you have I9070P??? If you do do not install non P firmware, you will HARD BRICK PHONE!!! That error 7 was shown because you used wrong version of CM, if you have P than you should download for P.
P.S. Your sim card will work if you do FACTORY RESET. It should be always done on every ROM change.

Guys, I've encountered another problem and I thought it wasn't necessary to open another thread. So..I managed to root my phone and I would like to install a custom ROM but I have problems with Clockwork mode. I found a thread about temporary CMW for JB and I tried it but it doesn't seem to work. I installed it but when I want to navigate through it's menus (for example going to the "install zip from sd card" menu) it restarts. Even when I try to reboot my phone ("reboot system now") it doesn't work. CWM just restarts. Any thoughts ?

Install CoCore with Universal kernel flash, and use permanent cwm. You need to unzip it, and use kernel.bin.md5 and you must have some root explorer installed.

No, you cannot change kernel without rooting your phone.
And rooting has a lot less risk of bricking phone.
