I'm using Total Commander 8.01 with ADB v6.9 plugin (latest as of now) and file transfers over the USB cable peaks at 1-1.5 MB/s. MTP mode over WinExplorer doesn't have transfer speeds displayed, but I'm perceiving them as about the same.
It's the same whether to/from phone or internal/external SD. Had both storages benchmarked within the phone (SD Tools on Market) and they averaged far above said speed, especially external SD which is UHS1. The USB ports on my computer are good and proper, besides the phone does the same on other machines.
Before someone asks, I have no convenience of wifi signal everywhere. Secondly, the phone is often charged over USB and I want to use the already present connection to transfer files.
Running Stock V20B.
Am I really the only one with this problem?
Starting the same 10 battery & boot probs threads a day is fine, but posting one reply here isn't. Come on, someone!
Maybe using another cable would solve this...?
I only copied files over USB once but it was indeed terribly slow. I don't recall exactly, but I think it was about 600kb/s.
I am not on stock and using Ubuntu. So the problem is not just your setup...
Edit: Ok, so I copied a rom to my device today, it went fast. 100mb in a few seconds...
Thank you for replying.
I tried another 10cm cable (minimal loss of signal), another computer, USB ports directly on motherboard (got to 2.5 MB/s on either storage) and no changes.
Maybe there is some setting in the phone I should turn on or off that I don't know about? I don't know what else to try, short of flashing a custom rom (no guarranties that would work at all).
I have USB debugging enabled today, don't know if i had this enabled before. You could try if this makes a difference?
Unfortunately, ADB plugin for TC requires debbuging enabled to function. I doubt it'll make a difference, but I'll try it with WExplorer in MTP mode.
Well, USB debbuging made no difference, but MTP mode reached 8-9 MB (better, but still way below what it should be), while ADB+TC says it creeps at ~3 MB.
Same file copied via MTP needs 3.5 mins and ADB plugin requires for stumping 16 minutes! And that's on extSD, not internal. So, ok, the TC plugin is a decomposing cadaver, fine, but that doesn't account for MTP's speed.

Hello everyone,
I have a problem with mine Diamond.
When i try to transfer a Divx, so a file like 600 Mb, the trasfer get much slower at 50%, so that the transfer time increase rapidly from 15 minutes to hours. I tried to use even the active sync mode, than the Storage card mode with the same result. I have enought space on my internal storage, and i have had the some result with bouth 1 Gb of free memory and 3,5 Gb of free memory.
Is it an known bug? Is there a solution?
Thanks for your support and congratulation for the forum.
Noone else has this problem?
are you connecting the device to a USB 2.0 port? Because on USB 1.0 i would expect a 600mb file to take hours to copy.
I'm using USB 2.0 port. The problem is that until 50% the time is regular, just some minutes...than it get increased to hours...
The only other thing i can think of then is if you are using Vista by any chance it has been reported it has/had a problem with copying large files (not just with the Diamond, just in general)
Ok...we should have found the problem... I use vista.
So do you know if is there any solution?
I decided against running vista to be honest, but i did a quick search and found some information here: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/08/24/slow-file-and-folder-copy-move-transfer-or-delete-operation-speed-problem-in-vista-fix/
You can also read more if you simply type in 'slow copying on vista' into google. This is only a guess at what your problem could be though. I know that using USB 2.0 on XP transfers files for me very quickly (just wish i could get iGO to bloody work though when copied! )
I have a problem any high quality video files, such as DivX. Apparently there is supposed to be a version specific for the Diamond of The Core Media Player, don't know what's happening with it.
Thank for your help gary.bannister.
I have tryied the suggestion written in the website without success...
Thank you anyway.
I only hope it's not a problem of my device because i haven't heard noone else with this problem.
Bye
Ive had this same problem a few times, but ive noticed that if i plug the diamond in another usb slot then i get normal speeds.
hi there, i flashed my htc touch diamond with energy ROM, everythings goes well.
I tried to connect my htc touch diamond to my car's audio (which can support USB storage) for musics. It can play the musics, but after i disconnect my diamond, i found that my diamond cannot detect the "internal storage" anymore, and yet i can detect it when i connect my phone to my pc.
Anyone here know how can this happened and how to solve it?
When i checked the memory setting for my diamond.
It shows that the "storage card is not installed"
By default, when the Diamond is set to be used as a Disk Drive (one of the USB connection options), you are unable to see the internal storage on the phone until you disconnect the USB cable.
Now that leads me to believe that when you connect it to your car audio it is connecting as a disk drive. When you unplug it though, it is not registering the disconnection and still thinks its connected via disk drive.
Did it work fine prior to flashing the energy ROM? If so, flash back to Stock ROM and make sure it is working again. Also, may be worth asking this in the Energy ROM thread.

Thanks for your explaination, bro.
I flashed back to the stock rom, the problem still presists.
I connect my phone to the pc again and format my internal storage and reflash my ROM again. It works. Everythings turn back to normal.
Lesson learnt:-
No to connect your diamond to your car audio's USB.
Forgive me for my Basic lack of understanding on this one.
I'm running os x snow leopard 10.6.4 and when i plug it in usb it starts up a mtp application and only allows me access to pics and as a dial up modem. I would like to be able to mount the disc's to transfer files back and forth. and also when i run doubletwist it tells me to use the drop down menu but when im using usb there is no drop down menu. so no mounting.???
any ideas what im doing wrong?
You need to go into settings, applications, usb settings, and change it to ask when connected. Then when you plug it in choose mass storage from the list of options that come up. Also, enable usb debugging while you're at it

the usb debugging was the kicker after! thanks for your help your suggestion works a treat!

I feel like i'm going crazy here...
i have debugging enabled, i have my phone set to ask on connection.
i use osx 10.6.4.
there is no sign that i have a device detected on my mac.
the phone detects that it has been plugged in. (notifications)
i've gone to the notifications and selected mount.
i've used "adb devices" and get no results.
tried using double twist, nothing shows up.
my phone is still stock.
any help/ideas are appreciated!
Are you on a mac desktop? Mine would only recognize if I use a port on the back, not a port on the keyboard or the front of the machine....i think it's a power requirement thing. Try a different port and post the result.
Also try changing it from ask to being mountable instead and see if that changes things

it's a macbook pro. i've toggled between the "ask on connection" and auto mount. i've selected to mount the drives from the notifications, all with not mac love. however, it seems to work with my windows box (using the usb on the back, not front). I would like to get it working on my macbook though as that is much more convenient (couch + tv and all). seems that mac + this phone is not officially supported? (no drivers from samsung anyway).
any tips/idea/suggestions are much appreciated.
This is what I did for my phone.
I put it on "ask when making a connection"
I always choose PC Internet.
I enable USB debugging.
Plug my phone in.
Then go to the USB notification and hit "mount drives"
Then it is on my desktop!
I am using the aluminum macbook.
thanks for the input. i'll have to try it again when i get home.
an interesting note:
when i attach it to my macbookpro and i have it on "ask" the phone will display the connected notification, but it will not ask.

I think when it is in USB debugging mode it will not work like that. But I always select that every time I can.
But having it to ask, it does not default to anything else. Not sure if it makes a difference or not, but I don't have problems putting anything on my SD card.
yeah, i'm totally not having any luck with this device on osx.
i have 2 usb ports. i've tried both. i think i've plugged in the phone with every different option... with/without secondary sd, debug on/off, mass storage ...
i even tried it in ubuntu running in vmware fusion.
i can confirm that it does work (it works on my work pc [windows 7]) and have decided that there may be one additional thing to try. i have the stock cord at work and i bought a backup from the local store. the connector on the micro-usb side might not let the port fully connect (it's a little fatter than the one Samsung sent with it). i don't know if that could really happen since it does charge and the phone thinks it's got a connection. but as of now seems my only hope.

Don't forget to exclude the storage drives from being indexed by Spotlight or you will get all those .filename files in every directory damn near it.....gah I hate Spotlight sometimes
OK. so, first i'd like to thank everyone for their input.
I have figured it all out. It is the #$%^&* backup cord I bought.
I took it to work where my stock samsung cord is (and the phone connects) and swapped out cords. I got the exact same result, phone notices that it is plugged in and begins to charge and allows me to select to mount the cards. The computer however doesn't recognize that a USB device was attached. So i took that damn blocky cord and pushed it in really hard and BAM-O! the drives show up and i get nice full access.
so, because of the recessed opening for the micro USB port on the phone combo'd with the blocky micro USB end of my cord I am not getting a complete connection. at least i have a back up charger. i only need to do my syncing/hacking at home.
I guess this post is a little premature, but i'm fairly positive that when i get home with the good cord all will be fine.
FYI: Don't get a "Retrak" cord from fred meyers.
For those still having trouble even after enabling USB debugging etc:
On my 2 week old 17" MBP, only one of the USB ports (the one closest to the power supply) will allow the phone to show up as mounted -- it's also the only port which will charge an ipad fwiw, so I suspect that it's a power requirement issue.
Bottom line: try all the USB ports on your machine.

OMG, thx for this post! I was having the same issue. Now it's fixed after I used the stock cord, lol.
usb issues with mac mounting and self eject
first my phone does not mount to my macbook like it used (since july) to with stock usb cord but still mounts to my imac (also with bootcamp xp2) and powerpc g4 all running the latest OS X
on imac, when i try to copy a folder from sd card to my mac the sd card will eject it self after starting coping files. it started with a system.img file from my rom backup files, now when i try to copy other folders even a jpg from DCIM will eject the sd card and external sd. (see attachement for error code) then the error message that the disk was not ejected properly. all happens with any random files, copying folders from mac to sd cards is fine
in xp2, the desktop windows freeze while coping is in process, then i need to disconnect the usb cord to get back to the desktop
i copied same folders from sd card to external sd on the phone itself and it works
update: now, only by selecting a file on external sd will unmount both sd cards!!! going to buy a replacement cord and see....
Hello!
I must ask it for you, as simply could not solve the problem for some weeks...
Im not sure in it, but from aprox. my Gingerbread update (first day when JPQ announced here at XDA... long time ago, just had no time for care about my problem...), the USB transfer speed dropped to aprox. 3-4M/s from 8-10M/s as write speed. With this rate I simply could not use my Tab for movie player, and dont know what is the problem.
I tried to change my Sam's USB driver from SuperOneClick boundle to the latest Kies version, but not helped (I thought maybe the SPOC driver is wrong, but not...) I tried it on 3 different computer, with driver in the latest Kies but on all I have this problem. What Im sure that before GB update my transfer speed was aprox more then 2 times faster, for write on the device... Im not sure that the problem is about GB update, but sure that before it was fast, and after become slow...
Could anybody help me? Maybe any tip what soft could make this problem, before I try a factory reset?...
Lot of thanks for it...
ebola
You are activating USB UMS over USB debugging deactivate USB debugging and activate Mass Storage in USB connectivity and you should get your speeds back.

Thanks for the tip I was glad to hear it, but sadly it not helped on me. I used USB debugging on all my Android devices always and was never any speed problem, but (now) I tried to switch it off, and just use normal mass storage connection. My transfer speed in this case still 3-4M what is horrible slow...
Any other opinion, tip on my problem?
I am having issues with the activation of USB Mass Storage mode on CM7 v7.10. When I first connected my nook (just got it yesterday), I was able to enable mass storage mode as per normal. However, after this it's just stopped working!
There's nothing wrong with the cable afaics because the empty drives come up on the PC (Win7) no problem, it's just that the nook doesn't detect that the USB is plugged in and so never gives me the option to enable Mass Storage mode. I have had success once running ROM Manager's 'Fix Permissions' function, but since then it's not made any differences. The issue remains on multiple PCs with multiple cables.
Anyone got any fixes for this issue?
+ can you wiggle the micro-usb end a bit to see if anything better?
+ do you have the "usb debugging" check?
+ do you see the usb icon displayed on the NC notification bar?
- No wiggling makes any difference
- Tried with USB debugging on and off - no difference
- No USB icon (but empty drives still show up on my PC) so there is some kind of connection going on.
If the empty drives do show up on the PC, it definitely some sorts of connection made, it's a good sign.
Now back on your NC, go into Storage, try to Unmount then Remount the uSD and see if it gets any going.
Note: leave the Debugging USB Mode on.
Might also be worth considering moving from 7.1 to the MiRaGe 7.2 build. I'm not saying there is a specific fix but using the later ROM may help and I think most people find it more stable, faster and problem free.
Yeah, I actually updated to KANG 7.2 this avo and the USB Mass Storage option is back!
Thanks everyone for your suggestions!
I currently having KANG Mirage 7.2 with Tablet Tweak but it did not work. I bought an OTG cable from ebay so I assumed it's bc the OTG cable. The Drive works fine on my laptop but nothing appears on the Nook.
Maybe a re-flash with the same ROM might do the trick?
I'll try to reflash sometime soon!
Will post
uSB mass storage
I had the same issue. Have the USB connected and while connected reboot your device once it has rebooted you'll be able to access the USB files on your device. You'll be able to see the USB signal at the bottom, which you can activate. You'll have to do this most likely everytime you want to access USB storage

I'm on MIRAGE 7.2 running off EMMC. SD card is in the Nook.
I shut nook off, plugged in the cable to my pc and started the nook.
5 drives show up but I cannot access any of them. The USB icon is in the tray on the Nook and it says "USB connected". Just above that it says, "USB debugging connected"
Anybody have any success?
After doing some reading I've decided to use ES-FILE Explorer wirelessly. Its very easy to use. You need to SHARE folders on your PC in order for it to access the files.
Playing around with the USB option some more, I didn't realize that you could TOUCH the message in the notification bar. When you do, it launches a program and from there, you turn the USB connection on or off.
Geeeeeeez........ya learn something new every day.
