[Q] Bionic bootloop issues, unrooted - Motorola Droid Bionic

Hi all. I'm a noob. I have a droid bionic that went into a bootloop (will come up for about 60-90 seconds then reboot, red dot no service). I have searched the forum and haven't found anything for my issues. It has never been rooted, stock JB. I'm just looking to go back stock for now. I tryed the wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, apply update from external with the cdma_targa_9.8.20-72_VZW-22_cfc.xml (it shows the folder empty from the phone but everything is there when i look at it from the pc with the sd card in the pc) I've tryed using RSD lite and I can't get it too show device from any mode I've put the phone in. tryed the apply update from ADB and can't get anything either. I'm not sure if my motorola drivers are not working correctly on my pc, it will show the phone internal and sd card files thru USB for a few minutes on boot up. Also I'm using the factory cord. I've tryed AP fastboot... not sure what else to do

Update: I have the USB communicating with the phone, apparently a USB 3.0 won't communicate in RSD lite with a bionic.
Now I am getting a Failed flashing process. 5/24 oem fb_mode_set-> Phone returned FAIL.

Help! I need to get back to stock rom on droid bionic!

Dear Sir/Madam,
Before Spring Break, I rooted my droid bionic using motofail for windows. I do not know what the software version is, but I will include the software (motofail) in this email. On Thursday March 28, 2012 I decided to try installing ROMs to my Droid Bionic. I saw that Liberty Rom, Blurr3d Rom, and Eclipse Rom were cool roms. so first, I got Bootstrap (I will include it in this email) Bootstrap is a .apk file. I also got ROM manager, titanium backup, and one more, but i do not recall what it was. I made a backup of the stock ROM with ROM manager. and i installed bootstrap. little did i know that if something bad happens to the phone during a ROM install, you cannot restore a previous backup. So i cannot get my stock ROM back on. later on, before i had a problem with bootsrap i installed liberty ROM. then i got board with it then got blurr3d. then i got eclipse ROM. that's when i started to have problems. After i installed the eclipse ROM, noticed that i could not get any cell service or data service. I could get data from wifi though. So i freaked out and got liberty ROM. i read up on it and someone said i should get safestrap. Safestrap is like bootstrap but it is safer because you can access the recovery menu from boot and not have to access it through an application on the phone like with bootstrap. So after i got safestrap i installed it, rebooted it and made a back up. Before i made the backup i put plurr3d back on becasue i thought that the radio files from eclipse were not compatible with the radios on the bionic for some reason. This was all on Thursday. well, this time, it took 3-4 hours for blurr3d to get passed the welcome to andorid please touch the android to continue screen. on the screen it said, "please wait... this may take a few mins" after about 20 mins i got worried so I pulled the battery and rebooted the phone. and got back to the same screen. After i got back to the welcome to android screen, i had to go to football practice and dinner afterwards. when i got home, which was 3-4 hours later, I checked on the phone and it was past that screen and i was able to add my gmail account to it. For some reason or another, the cell and data services were not working. so i left it at that for a day or so and on Friday, I tried using what a lot of people are saying on the Internet which is, RSD lite. you can use RDS lite to flash a stock ROM onto the droid bionic. at that point, i thought that if i got the stock ROM back on, the radios would start working again. well, when I put the phone into fastboot mode it said,
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S)
0A.61
Battery OK
OK to Program
Connect USB
DATA Cable
It also said the same thing when i connected the USB cable to the phone and the computer. RSD lite did not recognize the phone so i tried for a couple hours with the same result. Later on, I read that restarting the computer with the phone in AP Fastboot while the phone was plugged in would get the phone to say,
AP Fastboot Flash Mode (S)
0A.61
Battery OK
OK to Program
Transfer Mode:
USB Connected
This worked, but RSD lite still would not recognize the phone. So then i remembered that i had a stock ROM backup with bootstrap and i did. so i un-installed safestrap (one of the worst mistakes i made so far) and installed bootstrap. so i booted into recovery via bootstrap to restore to stock ROM. things did not go as planned... for some reason or another, it booted up normally. without going to recovery. then it wont to the dual core screen then the bionic eye screen with someone's ROM underneath it (it didn't say someones ROM but it said some one's name then the word ROM) then blurr3d ROM booted up and it kept crashing. so i ended up staying up to around 2-4 AM trying to fix that. i ended up saying forget this and going to sleep.
When i woke up in the morning, i looked at the phone and i had my data and my cell service back so i was confused so i started texting my friends and when i tried to go tot he home screen, nothing happens. but what i learned earlier is that when i reboot the phone, my data and cell service goes away for a couple of hours. So here i am now with my droid bionic, and cant do anything but text and call. i can only call when i get a text from someone, open up the text, and click on the phone number and click call when it brings me to the contact page for the number. I am also not able to access the home screen, the settings folder, or anything besides the notification bar. i really need my phone to use email, games, software (learning how to write java code), and for school in some instances. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time,

Seems to me...you lost data along the way.
A possible reason rsdlite is not recognizing your phone might be because you dont have the proper moto drivers installed.
Try this rsdlite and install the correct drivers for your pc...http://dl.dropbox.com/u/63864500/rsd_drivers.zip
Make sure your battery does not die!
Boot into AP fasboot (power and down volume)
Use the cable that came with your phone.
See if rsdlite recognizes the phone.
If it does, you can flash the full 902 xml file (make sure your pc has 4g of RAM tho)
Do you have the full 902 xml file...if not, let me know.
Drivers
Dear Sir/Madam,
I have the correct drivers installed. When i connect the phone regulry once it is all booted up, i am able to access the sd card and the internal storage via windows explorer. The problem is that the phone refuses to connect to the computer in fastboot mode. i do not want to risk rebooting unless it is guaranteed to work 100% because I can still text and call on it for some reason. Every time the phone is restarted, the radios stop working for a while and i need to be able to text my parents where and when to pick me up from school.
Thank you for your time,
NH85
i notice that you didn't once mention a wipe data or otherwise cleaning of previous ROM before flashing another (correct me if im wrong). also DO NOT have bootstrap and safestrap installed at the same time, this could be what caused all your problems. in order to switch between the two (which i've had to do for webtop issue), you have to return to STOCK +root, uninstall the currently used strapper, reboot, then install the other. things start getting even hairier if you forget that safestrap has both a safe/non-safe system. you need to be doing the switch on the non-safe system if necessary.
the purpose of safe-strap isn't that it can boot to recovery, it's that it *creates a an isolated ROM installation while preserving your "safe" system in case things like everything your experiencing occur. from what i can tell, you did not change to safe system before flashing new ROMs, again correct me if im wrong. at any rate, a bit of advice for the future is follow directions to the dot, but before even attempting the install read through AT LEAST 3 or 4 pages of user feedback to see what the common issues or install goofs are!
that being said...
having your computer recognize the phone as storage device does not necessarily mean you have the right drivers installed, however it does mean that you probably have the right cable (this is important, bionic is finicky without the proper moto cable). you will know if you have the right drivers if you see in device manager Motorola ADB. when you plug your USB cable in, there should be an option for "PC Mode" which will force the computer to search for the drivers you claim to have installed correctly. if not found, here is your chance to install them properly and test RSD to make sure device is detected.

Obviously you don't.
Mass storage and ADB are not the same drivers.
If you are in fastboot mode and your device doesn't connect, it's most likely your missing or don't have the fastboot drivers installed on your computer properly.
Once you get the ADB driver from motorola you can use fastboot start flashing.
The information you need is here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22758211 .
I had trouble using RSD to flash the .902 FXZ.
What I had to do is extract the .img files from the ZIP, and use fastboot through CMD to get everything up and running.
Just open up the XML file inside the zip, it will show you the commands you need to type to flash each section and when to reboot the bootloader

problem with factory reset

hello, i recently bought used droid 4, found it to be with some leftover data (sms, and such) so first thing i did was a factory reset only to
find it after a while in extact same state. weird thing is that when i factory reset it after removing some apps or changing anything at all it acts
as if i restored some backup instead of wiping device. it spams me with errors every few seconds too which is quite troublesome to say the least.
i searched the internet for an answer (still looking) to this problem but so far got nothing. i mean there are lots of ppl with similiar issue
but no real answer anywhere i looked. i thought maybe flashing some stock rom (dont wanna try anything custom yet since i got lapdock
too and havent checked if webtop works with custom roms yet). is it the right direction in my case or is there some simplier answer to my problem?
thanks in advance
update: cant root it, cant install official update through rsdlite, cant update through other unofficial ways,
it acts as if everything went fine and each time im back to square 1. it aint my first or second journey with rooting,
changing rom but im not really sure what else can i do. also rsdlite cant detect any information about device (imei,
os version, flex drm boot etc are all filled with N/A
install from sdcard also failed - signature verification failed. keeps gettin better. downloading another rom from
official moto website... not expecting anything though

what official site? use files from my page How to Use RSD Lite to flash a .XML Stock Rom (firmware)
thanks for taking interest
tried factory reset with options You mentioned unchecked, same thing as before.
i did use xml with rsdlite and zip through built in recovery.
tried to find this page i downloaded files but theres too much in yesterdays history, trying those from Your link now.
also tried to update rom ota, but of course theres an error. oh my droid runs 4.0.4, i havent mentioned it before.
also, found in the net schematics for factory cable, was thinking if its worth a shot this way:
http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-labs/146492-how-why-make-your-own-motorola-factory-cable-4.html

from what i read in this post about factory cable it says it boots phone different way than normal thats why i thought maybe
itll be able to successfully update with it. also after every reset of this droid its not a simple matter of apps coming back thru wifi.
wifi is disabled and theyre there right from the start. i can remove some widgets or apps from home screen, i can delete texts,
and after reset theyre all back where they were. its as if every change i made havent been saved. i dont even have to reset phone,
i just need to reboot it to have it all back
phone needs to be in AP Fastboot mode when flashing with rsd lite.
verify md5 checksum for xml file before flashing.
yes, it was in ap fatboot mode, didnt verify the md5 tho.
more importantly, file i downloaded from site You linked passed verification! guess what i found wasnt official updates after all...
i hope this works

is it any different than checking "erase internal storage" when reseting phone?
anyways did it but atm have to recharge battery before trying to wipe it again.
also rom was succesfully updated thru recovery with no errors and after reboot im... back to square 1...

did system version change?
same story after formating internal memory.
no changes whatsoever. same homescreen, same widgets/apps present. same system version.
and of course new error every 5 seconds. guess the phone is messed up good.
talk about luck. its second droid 4 i bought. first i bought over a month ago on auction site, it was new. i paid, guy never sent it.
now this one. its like a curse
formatting internal won't wipe, user data, but will wipe backup data.
tried xml with rsdlite now.
after first reboot its supposed to go into the recovery mode right?
it went back in to ap fastboot... and after rsd transfered all the files then it went to bootloader... and now program says reboot is in process while phone sits in recovery mode...

select wipe data, then select reboot
done, nothing changed.
also, when rsd works it acts as if it doesnt wait for the phone with operations.
it writes reboot, phone starts to reboot, and long time before it boots back either in ap fastboot mode or into recovery
rsd says its already transfering files, it says reboot again (before phone even gets into fastboot or recovery after 1st reboot) and so on.

0A.74

looks like you have a failure to write data, don't think there is a fix.

NEED HELP - Android gone black

Moto X 2014: unrooted with bootloader unlocked. It's running Stock 5.1 and I haven't messed with anything on it. I gave it to my Dad after a few months of using it, so I factory reset it and gave it to him, 2 weeks later he tells me it has stopped working. It boots up normally, but from then on it is black, I can access minor parts of the OS such as the power off menu, the camera (by shaking) and Moto Display, but everything else doesn't work. I have never seen anything like this before, and I am well accustomed to flashing custom ROMs and rooting Android. If it comes down to it I will factory reset it or flash stock, but I can't even plug it into my PC and retrieve any files. Anyone have any idea whats gone wrong?
I have attached a video demonstrating what's happened to help diagnose the problem.

If you search the forum here for "black screen" it has happened to other people as well on stock 5.1. Supposedly the fix is a factory reset.

Ok, It was just really surprising thats all. I will factory reset then. Thanks
I am having the exact same issue. Have you had a luck resolving it short of a factory reset?
My phone battery died last night. I plugged my phone in, let it get about 15% charge, then tried to turn it back on. The phone boots like normal, but after the boot animation goes away, the screen is black. Active notifications still seem to work, and I can hold the power button to get the Power Down option. I can boot into the bootloader & access recovery just fine. However, my phone is fully stock (no root, no bootloader unlock, no anything). I can't seem to access ADB when the phone is powered normally (ie, when I'm at this mysterious black screen), but it's possible that USB debugging isn't even enabled.
So far, I've found a few people who've said a full factory reset will fix the problem, but I'm looking for another solution, or at least a way to grab my data before I reset. Since my bootloader's still locked, I can't seem to use fastboot boot to boot into TWRP, and I can't find any other way to access my data to copy it off the phone. I've tried wiping the cache using the stock recovery to no avail. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately I couldn't retreive any data from the phone, I can confirm however that a factory reset does fix the issue. The Android automatic backup does work in the broken state so I did manage to restore my settings and apps. But the internal sd card was wiped upon factory reseting. Just an idea of the top of my head: Try running adb backup and see if that works, and then unlocking the bootloader, flashing twrp, restoring the backup, and finally transfering the internal sd card data to a mounted drive using twrp. Thats just a stab in the dark and i dont have the phone on me to test it. Give it a try and lets hope Motorola will fix this bug soon.
Ok, thanks. I did try adb backup, but adb won't recognize the device when it's "booted" & sitting at the blank screen, and the stock recovery doesn't give full adb access. I'm currently looking into the various data recovery options to maybe pull some stuff off after reseting. It's really only a few files that I need, so maybe that will work?

Unfortunately the internal SD card mounts using MTP and not like a flash drive, so using the usual methods through Windows to recover wont work. However you could try and restore your internal sd card using this solution: http://goo.gl/OKdV14
As for accessing adb through recovery, you could try this method: http://goo.gl/5T7bhq
Hopefully one of these methods should work, so you can at least recover some of your files.
I had the same problem today. I tried to backup a twrp backup I have made few weeks ago but I still had the black screen. The only solution is to factory reset...
Happily I could have saved my data when I was on TWRP. Anyone knows how to restore sms from the data I have saved ?

[Q] Stuck in bootloop, cant access recovery

Post in wrong section, its 1st gen. Please move
So recently I decided to unlock my bootloader and flash CM12 on my Moto G 1st gen
Everything went fine till a friend told me to download and install Xposed. As I launched the app and hit frame work it mentioned creating a backup before installing so I did using TWRP. From there I rebooted the phone and thats where I ran into problems, it started to bootloop. After many hours (3 days to be exact) I still cant get it out of this state.
I thought I fixed it by reflashing, but apparently it just flashed it onto a seperate partition and the new ROM didnt work well (Notification bar didnt pull down right, no home button or multi-task). Since it didnt work I tried to wipe it and reflash but that apparently wouldnt boot, then I lost the ability to access recovery.
ADB doesnt find the device, I think usb debugging got disabled at some point.
I need some help on how to unbrick this, I'm 4 days in and still out of luck. Please!
Nobody?
You can´t access the recovery at all? When i get into a bootloop i need to do a little trick to enter recovery; hold down the power button for several seconds until it reboot, then as soon as the screen turns black hold the power button and volume down for 5 seconds to enter into bootloader. Then enter recovery from the bootloader, do a full wipe and install a stable rom. If you can´t connect the phone to the pc, take the sd card out and put it on another phone so you can connect it to a pc to transfer a stable rom for flashing on your phone.
Sorry this is late, completely forgot I post this. I can now get into recovery although some features dont work as the phone has nothing else on it. Got a USB OTG cable today and going to try mount cm12 that way.
Update : Using TWRP mount I now have files on the device (Data, boot, sys, system) which I didnt have before. Although I'm now getting a E:unable to mount '/system' but TWRP says Successful. Any thoughts?
Update 2 : Flashed it another 2 times, that seemed to fix it. Now no SIM detected.

HELPPP!!! Accidentally Wiped All data, Stuck on Boot LOGO.

I can't boot into recovery, i have wiped all data through TWRP, and my phone won't get past the lg logo.
What Happened:
I rooted my LG-G4 H811 and installed TWRP too, yesterday, and i thought of trying out a custom rom.
I chose the CM 13 Rom, i downloaded the files.
i put them in the internal memory of the device, (since my phone has an sd card problem, a hardware one) i could've done that using OTG too but i didn't think of it that time.
I go to TWRP using my pc using adb, Because there's no direct method of doing it, not even with the volume buttons. tried them all.
Here's when i messed up
i went to wipe the phone data instead of flashing the rom and gapps first. I ticked all the boxes, and it did clean everything. including the rom files i was about to flash ( genius)
I went back to the main screen and i rebooted my phone and now it's stuck on the LG logo.
I can get into download mode by pressing the volume up button while plugging in a cable
i CANNOT get to TWRP. idk why.
Please help me :crying:
download kdz file with the firmware that you were running before on your phone get yourself into upgrade firmware mode by pressing volume up and connecting USB cable when your phone is turned off and run lgup application to upgrade the firmware and you should be ok unless you experienced bootloop phenomena on you lg4.
