Hey guys I have a i9305 and my carrier is Vodafone (Australia) still hasn't released 4.4 yet.. So I've been on 4.3 for a while now, which is pretty disappointing. My mate was telling me that I could get 4.4 if I had CM, the only bad thing is that I've got no clue how to install.. Well I do but I can't find the right guide.. They either lack in the details/information on the install, there outdated or the videos are poorly made..
Could someone help me out and point in the right direction? Maybe leave a link or a video etc..? I also haven't touched or changed anything in my phone it is completely stock.
Thanks guys!
Thing you need:
1)An unlocked galaxy s3 (The I9305 version comes unlocked so dont worry)
2)A rooted galaxy s3 with CWM
3)CM 11 rom file, and GApps for CM 11
Steps:
1)To root and install CWM, go to youtube and search "how to install cwm on galaxy s3" a video by MrW0lf should come up(Im new in XDA so i cant post links, sorry)
2)Get CM 11 and Gapps (Google it, once again i cant post links sorry)
3)Put both files into internel/external SD card
4)Boot into cwm (power off, then press volume down, power and home key at the same time, once you see samsung galaxy s3 logo, let go)
5)Optional: Do a backup in cwm.(go under backup and restore and click backup)
6)wipe data factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik cache(wipe dalvik cache button is under advance)
7)choose install zip from SD card and go to where ever you put the files
8)Flash CM11 first then the Gapps
Hope this helps:good:
You should not get any problems, but if you do, just reply, i will do my best to help

You can find everything you need to know in that topic. You shouldn't flash a 4.4 rom just for the sake of running 4.4 though. 4.3 stock with AGNi or Boeffla kernel is fine.

Vodafone customers in Australia have been waiting for at least 8+ months now for 4.4, I just want it for it's extra features. And yeh I've searched that thread but it doesn't really tell you step by step on how to do it..
Basically just want to be able to use 4.4 without different kernals etc..? Just CM 11 if that's possible.

Australia isn't the only country that has been waiting, 4.4 for the i9305 isn't out anywhere yet. Just download the things in that topic I linked and make sure the rom zip says i9305 and you should be fine. You have already rooted your phone and put on a custom recovery right?

No, if there were then you could just flash an official 4.4 rom onto your phone. Before you can install CM you need to put a custom recovery on your phone. You can do this either by flashing one using Odin / Heimdall or by rooting your phone and then installing rom manager from the play store and having that install CWM for you. I used the latter method on my phone, it's up to you which one you choose though.
I'll explain the latter method since it's the one I used, you have to understand that doing this can break your phone if you don't follow the steps perfectly though. This guide explains how to root your phone http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/galaxys3-lte-gti9305-root-android43-jellybean-xxeumkc-530002 . After step 11 you have to download this http://download.chainfire.eu/452/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.02.zip , unzip it, go to the folder called "common", drag the superuser.apk file onto your phone or ext sd card and install it using "my files" (default samsung file browser). After that, run supersu, let it disable knox and then go to the play store, download rom manager, click install clockworkmod and choose the i9305 one.

you wont brick your device if you install the wrong GApps. If you google "GApps" a link to cyanogenmod wiki would come up, it has to links for the GApps for CM 11

So root, CWM and CM and GApps I should be alright? Would I still be on the 4.3 firmware and then I'll just have to update to 4.4 through the menu? Not sure how that part works.. But I'm starting to understand it a tiny bit.
Sucks how the auto installer works for the S3 but not for the S3 LTE..

1. Root your phone
2. Install CWM using Rom Manager
3. Put CM and Google Apps on your sd or ext sd (the .zips, don't unzip them)
4. Follow the instructions in the first post http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/development-i9305/rom-cyanogenmod-11-0-official-t2524516
To boot into recovery press power + volume up + home. To flash things you have to navigate using the volume buttons to "install zip", press power and then either choose zip from sdcard (internal) or sdcard1 (external) depending on where you put the .zip files. To wipe things just go back to the main page and there is an option that says wipe data / factory reset. I highly recommend that you make a backup of your phone using CWM on your external SD and backup the efs using the guides in this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...warning-guide-backup-restore-imei-nv-t1946915 before flashing CM.
After flashing CM your phone will automatically be on 4.4.

Too easy mate, would you recommend nightly or a stable version of CM? And also once everythings done can I remove the CM, GApps, CWM files from my sd card? Or do they have to stay in there, because I'm thinking they would.. Cheers.

The stable version is really old so just read through the last pages of that topic I linked and see what people say is a good nightly. You can remove everything except the CWM backup. Although, it is good to leave at least one custom rom on your sd card in case your phone soft bricks while you are out somewhere. Remember to back up your contacts and text messages before wiping your data as well, SMS Backup and Restore is good for the texts and you can just copy your contacts to your sim card. Also, if there are any apps you don't want to lose then make sure to back them up before wiping your data.

yeah, you have to flash CM and GApps through CWM
I was attempting to install the SlimKat ROM, and I followed the directions by going into CWM and doing a factory reset, wiping the cache, and formatting /system. When I tried to install the ROM, though, it told me that the file was bad. Now I can't boot back into the OS! It just stops at the T-Mobile splash screen. I can still get to CWM, but I have no idea where to go from there. I tried to recover from a previous backup, but it gives me "Error while restoring /system!"
How can I get my recoveries to work?
Just to confirm:
You do have the model Exhibit T679, correct?
What version of CWM did you flash?
The way I've been flashing ROMs:
Boot into CWM
Go to mounts and storage
format /system
format /cache
format /data
Go back to first CWM screen
Go to advanced
wipe dalvik cache
Go back to first CWM screen
Choose install zip
choose zip from the location you placed the ROM
To restore your backup:
Do steps 1-5 from above
6. Go to backup and restore
7. restore from the location you saved the backup

Yes, it is a T679. My version of CWM is 6.0.5.0.
So, I solved the original problem, and now I have a new one... What I found was that I was able to install one of the other ROMs (Mahdi) from my external SD card. Then, I took a look at the SlimKat zip on my computer. As I suspected, the file was corrupted. (The MD5 hash didn't match.) So, I downloaded a new copy, verified the hash, and then tried again. This time, it worked! Everything seems to have installed okay, and I am loving SlimKat so far. Except for one thing... Somehow, I unrooted my device! Titanium Backup doesn't work anymore, and it was telling me it couldn't get root. So I installed Root Checker, and sure enough, I don't have root anymore! I downloaded root-stock.zip and tried flashing it, and that didn't work. Well, I guess it wouldn't, since I don't have a stock ROM anymore?
I'm sure I could flash a stock ROM, and then root that, but then I would want to go back to SlimKat, and I'm afraid I'd just wind up un-rooting it again.

Ok, that ROM seems to have Superuser built in already, do you see a menu item for it when you go into Settings? The instructions seem to note that you have to go into Superuser and check a couple boxes.
Maybe it was a bad install, try formatting the necessary partitions and reflash again. Then go into Superuser and select the appropriate options.
Sometimes I also format sdcard0 after all the other formatting just to be extra thorough then install new ROM per instructions:

Install at your own risk
- First time flashing CM11 to your Galaxy Exhibit (or coming from another ROM)?
Boot into existing recovery and create a Nandroid Backup!
Install at least ClockworkMod Recovery 6.0.4.5 or TWRP 2.6.3.0
Reboot recovery into at least ClockworkMod Recovery 6.0.4.5 or TWRP 2.6.3.0
CWM: WIPE dalvik-cache, format: data, system, and cache. TWRP: WIPE dalvik-cache, data, system, and cache.
** Optionally back-up sdcard0 before install and format it in recovery if experiencing install issues **
Install the ROM (without gapps)
Reboot system
After system boots, boot back into recovery and install KK Google Apps.
Wipe dalvik-cache and cache. Reboot.

This flashable zip overwrites our custom recovery after flashed?
Coz a custom recovery (like TWRP/CWM) prevents me from using a PC,
If these zip flashes also the recovery back to stock, then we cant go back/revert back from Nandroid without a PC..
Just a simple question, but I put mu reasons why.. Heheh.
Thanks by the way for sharing the ROM..

You need another kernel. When M-Bootlader and M-radio and TWRP are installed you can install a custom rom like JDX and supersu. Check the OP of the JDX thread.

Thanks for the help NLB. I was thinking of something like that along those lines. Can you provide me with a link to the JDX rom? I searched for it and found very little, except some antiquated threads that dont relate to what I'm trying to do. And you were correct, the first thing I did was install TWRP on 5.1.1.
Unless this is the one,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/development/rom-jdx-1-0-t3121053
Would I then install this after flashing back 5.1.1/twrp then go with this? I'm not really sure what you meant by flashing the M-bootloader and radio, would that be after twrp gets flashed?
Look for chainfire's SuperSU beta version 2.52 and also for a modified stock boot.img . This worked fine for me. You can flash the modified boot.img using Wugfresh's advance utilities if you aren't comfortable using the fastboot flash commands.

Perfect. Thanks so much. I'm going to do this today. I will update when finished. I'm assuming I need to take the files dated 10/6?

I just flashed all the necessary files (bootloader, radio and now finished JDX 4.01.zip).
I'm about to do the format data part in TWRP. I go to WIPE>select FORMAT DATA then let it do it's thing. Is that the correct procedure? I remember formatting data once before and I bricked my device. I just want to make sure I'm doing this right before I blow it up lol

If you have completed step 4. flash ROM you are good to go. Type "yes" to confirm and format. First boot will take some time. Then you give it 10 minutes to set up things under the hood.

I think you need to choose it all by yourself.
If you use Google apps so much..then Modded CM11 is good bcuz it was gapps included. .. But CM11 (original) is good too but you need to flash gapps by yourself..
My experience using Modded CM11:
1.Battery drain.. This is always my prob.
2.No lag
3.ram left 298mb
Original CM11:
1.Battery not draining so much
2.No lag
3.Better ram left (about 320mb)
4.Sometimes reboot
5. Better rom to play games
As you can see above, ori CM11 is better then modded.. But you can choose what you want..
Remember => Not everyone facing the same experience as me
Thanks..I'm going to install this one,

Are you installed gapps?
i have installed only cm11.zip. forgot to install..i have installed from playstore. without installing gapps is there any problem?
If you have installed CyanogenMod 11 by TeamCanjica then you need to install gapps.
If you have installed Modded CyanogenMod then you don't need to install gapps, because they are included. More precisely, are included only Play Store and Play Services: so other Google apps need to be installed through Play Store.
