Hi, I have a HTC 8S and everytime when I press the install button a warning comes up " You have reached the Limit of your phone" but the six guns app is 437 MB and I have 782,02 MB free, so why does it still not install?
Thanks!
Try install from sd card:
1. Download xap from the market store and copy to sd card (vis USB).
2. Restart phone
3. Run Market store on phone and tap SD card.
4. Select "Six guns" and install.
cutting the phone's storage to that little is also dangerous; much like on a PC, there needs to be some room at all times for temporary files and such. Also, the XAP may only be 437MB, but XAPs are compressed. If there isn't room to decompress the XAP - which I suspect there isn't, especially if it doesn't do the decompression in place - then you flat out won't have room.
Delete some other apps or music/photos/whatever, or move some of your media to an SD card (I think the 8S supports SD? Not sure) to free up space on the device storage.
and additionally, you need at least double the storage (for a normal install), since it first downloads the xap and then extracts it.
Though game size is mentioned to be below 450 MB in the marketplace, but the uncompressed size of this game after being installed is over 800 MB. Hence the issue.
Some steps to clear waste space:
Clear History in Internet Explorer
In Storage, clear Cache.

EDIT: Double post...#sorry
Even with 4gigs of free space it still won't download with either method. I suspect that this game isn't supported on devices with 512mb of ram...

The last option would be to download the xap manually to your sd card, then factory reset the phone and then first install the game from the sd card.
If even then gives you the low space error, we "8S`s" are doomed.
And can please someone tell me how to free the messaging space from my phone because even i`ve deleted all my messages and email it still says 55MB under the Phone Storage menu?

I am successfully using v3 but have two questions. First, my NC "Storage" indicates that total internal storage space is 0.92gb and available is 812mb. Did I do something wrong; I thought I had 8gb internally. Second, what version of OC do I use: SD or emmc? Third, certain free apps don't show in market, such as Amazon. Any ideas how I get the this and others that don't show? TIA.
*bump*
Mine also shows .92GB avail and 800mb or so free. Any luck?
same for me...
There are several partitions in the 8gb internal storage.
Right now some of them can not be read by android. That's why only about 1gb space shows in android.
You can mount and storage any files in the partitions through a PC by installing an app, though android can't read that, as I mentioned above.
Some apps whixh, can not be found in the market, you ca try the app name market enabler. Or you can download the apk installation file from internet, and install it by any file manager

HI, first of all thank you for a great forum that i have visited a lot of times the last 5 years.
I have one major problem with my samsung galaxy note. I can't run gallery because then i get 'not enough memory, Delete some items'.
If I start camera and then click on one image gallery starts without any problems.
Storage on my note:
SD Card: Available 11,40 GB
USB storage: 0
System memory: 1,47 GB
Please tell me how to fix this. I have tried a few memory optimizer apps from the marked but nothing...
Regards
Noeinstein
After 2-3 days of experimenting and studying loads of internet posts I finally managed to solve this problem:
Your Gallery needs space on ur internal SD-Card to work, even if you store all ur videos and photos on the external SD-Card. And as you posted there is 0 kB Space on your USB-Storage and thats the point.
Go to Menu - Own Files and find the largest Files and Folders. Now you have to find out, which Files may be deleted. For example I deleted Game Folders that took up to 0.5 GB and also deleted some old BackUp Files of CWM.
Be careful with this deleting and watch out not to delete any system relevant files!
I did not deleted them but moved them to my external SD-Card so I could move them back if my Android would be messed up afterwards.
I hope this helped you and others!
as said it more than likely because you have no free space on your internal memory, free some up and im sure it will start working
Hi everyone,
I have issued the same problem newly on these days with my SGN. But on the contrary, when I look at my storage levels:
Storage Name: Used / Total
System storage: 0.92GB / 1.97GB
USB storage: 1.42GB/11.07GB
SD card: 8.00GB/14.89GB
I'm using Android version 4.1.2 with N7000XLSA Baseband and the device is rooted. I have deleted some files to free up more space in internal SD (which is denoted as sdcard0 in JB) but it seems that it didnt work out, because the problem continues. Am I doing smthg wrong or is there another solution or workaround for this?
Regards,
Same problem here
I have same problem. Almost same memory usage. I mean lots of megabytes exist on every unit (phone, phone sd, ex t sd)
But cannot open gallery, s note, etc with same "not enough memory" message.
N7000/4.0.4
Just clear cache from in gallery app from settings>application and reboot. Also you need some minimum space in your internal sd storage. Also do not install unnecessary apps. Try to uninstall the apps that you don't use. Some apps tend to use more ram & storage.
I have to be honest and say I am a bit baffled when I look at the 'Storage' breakdown on my Note. So I have a few questions as to how RAM and flash memory work together.
From looking at some threads on the forums here I understand of the 16GB of flash memory on my Note :
2GB is reserved for the ROM
2GB is reserved for apps, actually my phone says I have 1.97GB
The rest (11.06 GB) as general storage e.g. music, movies, documents, etc.
Wondering what happened to the other c1MB as I have only accounted for 15GB?
So in settings when I go to 'Storage' it is broken down into 2 sections, 'Device Memory' and 'USB Storage' now I find this screen a little bit confusing. So, is the 'USB Storage' the 11.06GB flash memory I have for general storage and the 'Device Memory' the 2GB (1.97GB) of flash memory for storing apps I download?
I find it strange that my phone says I have 1.97GB device memory (flash memory) total for apps, and my apps seem to be taking up 1.47GB but I only have 228MB available. That doesn't add up?? Even more confusing is the fact that when I try to download a 40MB app I am told 'Can't download to default location'!!
Also do I ever see what the 1GB of RAM is up to on my phone or is this managed secretly by Android?
Thanks for anyone willing to set me straight
*Bump*
Anyone willing to help pls
Ram can't be accesed by u that's what your device uses to store processes so u can't save files or anything on it but anyways assuming your on gingerbread to "see what your ram is up to" go into system settings/applications/running services this what u see is runnning processes stored on your ram
Your note then has system internal and external memory
System memory is where your rom and system apps are installed (platystore youtube etc) you can't access this unless your rooted
Internal memory is the memory u get with your phone where u can store pics movies files etc and install apps I don't own this device but i doubt that it allocates a section of internal memory for apps
Then there's USB or external storage which is your memory card or flash drive (yes u can do that) u can store apps (which have app2sd support unless your rooted then u can move everything) movies files whatevever you want

I seem to have 'device memory' which is some kind of App partition of about 2GB but again its telling me I have over 200MB free but when I try to install another app I am told I have run out of space!?
I also seem to have USB storage which is referring to the remaining general storage partition which is about 11GB which I can't install apps to.
Thank you for trying to answer my query but I'm afraid I'm none the wiser. I though it would be easy to find a Wiki on the device which would explain how the 16GB is partitioned up and used like a memory map but I can't find anything. And the figures don't add up.

Okay smart ass let me point out a few things....
I am a complete novice to Unix and how their filesystems are organised but I am trying.
Pointing me to a thread of partition tables with what I presume are hex values that I've never seen before is a bit too low level and confusing.
I am not asking for a programmers spec table for the Note memory just a simple breakdown of partitions, GB/MB sizing and what the purpose of the partition is?
And if you don't know enough to do that then don't bother posting because your not being helpful and your post has as much value as a troll
Actually my post was extremely helpful, and just saved you the bother to search for yourself. However 'mr. smart ass' assumed you had a bit of basic knowledge of the subject, which you just made clear isn't exactly the case.
So to try and tell it disney style :
Your phone has 1Gb of ram, used to run system and apps in realtime.
Android manages it and you can look at what is currently running and
if that makes you happy, even kill processes in taks manager.
Then your phone has flash memory, in general 16Gb, allthough 32Gb
devices exist.
Your Total 16Gb of memory actually has 12 partitions that each have
their proper reason of existence.
Number Size Name
1 21.0MB EFS: Holds device specific info like imei number
2 1311kB SBL1 : 1st bootloader, the devices uses this to boot
3 1311kB SBL2 : 2nd bootloader, see above
4 8389kB PARAM : Forgot what they put inside, guess you will have to read up.
5 8389kB KERNEL : Here goes your Hardware layer, drivers etc....
6 8389kB RECOVERY : here goes the little program to recover your phone when it's messed up
7 210MB CACHE : guess the name says it all
8 16.8MB MODEM : here goes the radio program for voice+data
9 893MB FACTORYFS : here go your android system files
10 2147MB DATAFS : here goes the data for your android system, like your apps
11 11.9GB fat32 UMS : your famous internal storage free to fill with disney movies
12 537MB HIDDEN : space reserved for samsung to put their bloatware
Hope the above is mashed enough to understand
I had bought Galaxy S Advance.....under task manager following memory show..

Actual user available RAM is always lower than the specified capacity. Like on the GS3, around 800MB of RAM is usable out of a reported 1GB. It's the same for every phone out there. Nothing unusual about it.
Again, actual formatted capacity is less. There is a reason why a 1TB hard drive doesn't give you full access to 1024GB. You only get something around 800 or so. So like RAM, nothing unusual.
Not to mention, your 16GB total memory is divided into user available memory and internal system memory.
Rooting your phone is something which you need to do separately. Going by your RAM capacity, it seems you have JB. (didn't known that S Advances in stores come with JB pre installed) Search the development thread for Shaan's root if you want to get toot access on your phone.
Secondary partition om flash storage? Seems kind of pointless because capacity isn't too high either.
After installing the application, go to the application manager and select the specific app. Once the app options open, you will see an option to move the app to your SD card.
By default, most large applications only put their apk installation into the the system storage. The data is put into the user available 11GB anyway.
If you choose to move it the SD card, application performance will take a hit.
Hope this helps.

Ok I've gotten a few PMs so I figured I'd make a thread about how to use foldermount with link2sd.
1. download foldermount from google play here.
2. download link2sd from google play here.
3. to use link2sd you'll need to create a 2nd partition (and make it primary. ext4 is recommended) on your sdcard. ***Note I've made my second partition 10gb you can make it smaller according to your taste. this guide shows how to do this nicely.
4. once you've done this you now need to move over all the apk files you can to the sdcard. open link2sd, select menu > multiselect > select all > actions > create link. This will move all the apk files it can to the ext4 partition you just made.
5. now lets focus on the data. this is the biggest culprit of space. open foldermount. click the + sign to create a new entry.
6. name the new entry something you'll recognize. I'll use GTA3 for example. I named my entry GTA3.
7. Select the source destination. This is the folder you wish to move data FROM. using the example of gta3 this translates to /emulated/0/android/obb/com.rockstar.gta3.
8. Now select the destination. This is the folder on the sdcard we wish to move the huge data file to. using the example of GTA3 it translates to: /storage/extSDcard/gta3. press the check mark. it will ask you if you wish to move the files. say yes.
9. select the "pin icon" to the right of the entry you just made. this will activate the mount point for the data. fooling the system into thinking you still have that data on the internal sdcard.
10. That's it. Rinse repeat for all apps or games you have installed. typically huge game data is stored in the /storage/sdcard0/android directory. either the /obb or the /data directories beneath that.
The result? Typically if you haven't implemented this proceedure after the Android OS, Samsung bloatware, sprint bloatware, you'll have about 9gb of free space to use for installing apps. I have full use of my micro sdcard now. I have about 10gb of data used on it and 39gb free on the main partition. I used about 830mb of data moving the apk files to the second partition using link2sd. "internal sdcard" is nearly empty and I retain full use of all my apps and games on my sdcard. Please see my attached screenshot that confirms this.
I hope this helps some people.
*** Warning!!!!! creating a 2nd partition on your sdcard will wipe the contents from it!!!! Please back up the contents of your sdcard prior to doing this!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*** FORCE CLOSE ERRORS
Are you getting force close errors after linking an app to your 2nd partition? I have a solution that worked for me.
When I upgraded to MJA I lost the ability to link apps to my ext4 partition. After linking them they would force close when I tried to open them. Strangely no one else was reporting this problem. I Googled high and low. I found no solutions. I then thought about it and wondered if it would work if I changed the file system from ext4 to something else. Well ext2 didn't work. neither did ext3. So I tried FAT32. Bingo! It worked! So I'm now functioning fully again on MJA.
What could be causing this problem? I'm thinking the custom kernel I use isn't configured to read ext2,3,or 4. I think that's the reason other's aren't reporting this as a problem. They aren't using the kernel I'm using with MJA and link2sd.
In short, if apps are force closing after linking them to your sdcard, then delete your second partition and redefine it with FAT32. It should solve your problem.
NOTE: Please don't PM me for support. (1) It's rude. (2) Posting an issue or problem in this thread allows many users to look at it and offer advice on a possible solution. (3) Sending a PM does not allow other members of XDA to search for whatever problem and/or solution is derived from the post in the thread.
If you PM me for support I will automatically ignore you. Thank you and I hope you understand.

Clarification Needed OP
Looking for some advice but let me make sure I understand everything...
So I DLed Zombiewood by Gameloft - 325MB. I run FolderMount and find a data file in /Android/obb for 286.4MB. FolderMount moves that portion of the 325MB successfully to my external SD card on it's own without having to create a separate partition on my external SD card. Basically for that game there is still 38.6MB of data still on my internal memory.
This isn't 100% clear to me but I believe the OP is saying that to also move the 38.6MB to the external sd card in my example above...we must use link2SD...FolderMount wont do it. Am I correct?!?!?
If I am correct, it seems like a lot of work with the partitioning and running link2sd to just save 38.6MB. Seems like I could live with just FolderMount since in my example it migrated 88% of the data to the external SD card...or am I missing something here?

If you can live with it that's fine. however once you set up link2sd it can automagically move the apk files to the sdcard upon install and remove them when you uninstall. It's a set it and forget it type of deal. And you're only saving 38gb if that's the ONLY app you're installing. Which I doubt it is. I have 61 user apps on my phone so far. I'm sure you don't have that many and maybe you don't plan to. But your mileage will certainly vary from everyone else.
And as I noted in my OP I'm up to 830+ mb of data on my 2nd partition. My internal storage is nearly bare. Again it's all about what YOU want with YOUR phone. Many people like myself would love to save as much space as possible.
I'm certainly not forcing anyone to use link2sd. As for it being a lot of work? It literally took me 4 minutes to create that 2nd partition.
One final thing to consider: You only have so many writes and rewrites to your internal storage. While I'm sure you won't see the average life span of 10,000 writes to your internal card, why not write to the SDCARD when you can? If that dies you can buy a new card. If your internal storage dies you're taking it to the sprint store for repair/replacement.

Incorrect sir. There is no noticable lag associated with it. SSD storage is SSD storage. whether it's coming from your internal card or your external card.
I play GTA3, the dark night rises and the bard's tale with no lag whatsoever. if you have doubts benchmark your internal card with android tuner. (yes you can do this with android tuner) and note the difference.
EDIT: I added screenshots of my internal vs external transfer rates. Note the external is more than DOUBLE the internal transfer rate. So I highly doubt you'll see any lag. Granted I have a class 10 64gb and your milage may vary but I sincerely doubt you'll see any lag. This mod isn't anything new. I'm sure someone would have complained if they noticed any lag by now.
2 quick questions:
My foldermount app does not show the size of files just keeps saying "calculating..." whats up with that? is that the same for everyone?
Also lets say i have all of this data on my sd card. what happens when i want to change rom... am i able to link back to the destination directory? and not loose the game data so i wont have to download game again or what is the correct process?
Thanks!

1) I'm not having this issue. So I'm not sure what the problem is. What exactly are you doing to display the size?
2) Yes exactly that. You should be able to relink those files with no problem. The game just verifies whether the files are there or not. If not it redownloads them. The game should not know the difference when you link them again.
The only tool that has made Link2SD work again
Link2SD got broken for one reason for another. Foldermount solved this in two reboots. Plus following your method, there is some additional space saved as well.
Thanks for the guide. I'm having a bit of a problem with my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S4. I'm using a 64GB card. I made the first partition about 40GB and the ext2 partition about 20GB. When I open Link2SD, after I select the appropriate file system type, it just sits there saying "Please Wait" for a long time with a circle going round and round to the point where I feel the need to stop it. Is this normal? Is my ext2 partition too big? Should it be ext3 or ext4? Please help!! Thanks!!
EDIT:
I reduced the 20GB ext2 partition to a 10GB partition, and I made it ext4 instead of ext2, and all seems to be working fine now.

Yep I had the same issue with ext2. I used ext4 also and it works fine. I didn't want to put it in the OP as I wanted you guys to have a choice. I'm pretty sure it was that causing the issue and not the actual size of your pattition.
Good news!!!! There has been an update to foldermount to correct the size calculation problems you spoke of. Try and update the app and see if this fixes the problem!
Thank you OP! Tried this out and it works perfectly! I followed your instruction of making the extX partition a decent size unlike the tutorial which only sets it at 512 MB. I set mine at around 5GB and working pretty well.
My main concern was with the game Horn which is both very large and encrypted (according to link2SD). Even with the considerable size (around 3GB) from the SD card, it runs pretty well and smoothly.

Thank you OP! Tried this out and it works perfectly! I followed your instruction of making the extX partition a decent size unlike the tutorial which only sets it at 512 MB. I set mine at around 5GB and working pretty well.

Awesome sir!
Hello,
I am wanting to try this, so, I got the link2sd and foldermount apps.
I am rooted via the excellent CF Auto Root method.
Just poking around right now, link2sd app comes up no errors.
FolderMount app comes up with the following error:
FolderMount has detected a faulty module in your Samsung Galaxy phone
FolderMount will NOT work properly with it.
Would you like me to attempt to repair that fault?
(You must reboot your device after I am done to complete the repair)
Cancel OK
Anyone else seen this?
