i think i have determined that my phone network location has gone bad... =\
it showing that i am in zibo....some city in asia. well anyways has anyone experienced this problem? network showing that you are in the another country.or state or whatever.?
one theory is the 3g network...it just launched like last week in my city, jacksonville. maybe there are some quirks and bugs in the system.
one idea to try to fix is to return phone back to stock and redo my root and everything, but this is a last resort
i have flashed 4 roms to try to fix this problem. jacxhero 1.2 and 1.1 , drizzy 2.2r2, and JACMytouchSki 2.5.2. all with the same results.
it seems like the only way to get ym correct location is to turn off the first option in the location settings and turn on gps.
any help or ideas will do but it seems like i have to exhange phone thru warranty...and ugh i have to revert back to stock

I've experienced the same issue in Salinas, California. It shows me as Berlin, Berlin - Somecitybegan, Germany - and Somestrangecitinami, Brazil. (All made up city names of course because I can't reproduce the problem since I'm not there at the moment.
It's strange because if I drive down there my Weatherbug app will track me all the way there and update regularly and show me as Salinas, Ca. But after I reboot... Izaquiri, Brazil (or some place like that). Then I force an update and.... Berlin, Berlin. My other weather apps react the same way. Even some of my other apps such as all of my movie theater apps.
I've experienced the problem with JF ADP builds, Hero and Cyanogen ROMs. It has to be a NETWORK issue with the carrier. Not your phone. Perhaps the phones roaming on AT&T or something?

i just have to get into touch with my friend who has a g1....who lives in my area and see if the cellphone tower that is nearest to my g1 is buggy..
i already confirmed with another local guy and he says his displays jacksonville. so all i need to do is invite my friend over to see in her g1 is affected.
Hi guys, I only got my N1 a few days ago and just recently upgraded to FRF85B. I've noticed the wifi sleep policy setting seems to be ignored, even when set to never as soon as the screen blanks (locks) wifi is disabled and I can no longer ping the phone.
I'm not sure if i had this issue back on EPE54B, googling has turned up a bunch of people having similar problems but no fixes. Has anyone experienced this and have a working fix? Thanks.

Cheers flybyme, you're always around to answer my questions. I have seen that a few people claim their wifi sleep policy is working, so I was hoping I could get mine working to... Do you know if this issue is affecting every N1?
my wifi sleep policy has always worked just fine. but some people have this problem where it just does not work correctly. never seen a true reason or fix. the only thing i can think of is that it must be certain routers have this issue with nexus, and some dont. i use verizon FIOS wifi router if it matters.
I've tried 3 different routers and it doesn't work on any, I guess it could just be really picky though... Anyway I called google tech support and asked them about it and all they could do was arrange a repair/replacement.
Received my repacement from HTC and wifi sleep is working fine now, seems like it was a handset issue.

maybe i should call htc up and ask about this as well lol
i remember having this problem on the g1 at times as well, but it was not as bad as the nexus
I called N1 support about this issue and after exhausting all options they referred me to HTC and set me up for a replacement. I'll post as soon as I get it and test it out.
Currently running 2.2 FRF83, but I experienced this on 2.1 too...
Sometimes whilst browsing, the browser will stall when requesting a new web page. Eventually the page will timeout with a page unavailable or data connection error.
At the same time no other data functions work - email, Twitter etc. Also tried Dolphin browser but no luck, so I don't think its browser related.
The 3G icon shows both up/down arrows flashing as if it's requesting and receiving data.
While this is happening, a quick check of the phone info page does indeed show packet and byte counts increasing for both PPP Sent and PPP Received.
It's as if the data is coming down, but the phone doesn't recognise this.
To fix the issue I turn the radio off and back on. This immediately solves the issue, until it happens again, which could be in a few minutes again.
Have tried different radio settings like WCDMA Preferred, WCDMA Only, Auto prl etc. Still the same.
Has anyone else ever experienced this? Any possible solutions?
I have the same exact thing happening to me. I'm on AT&t in the US. Very frustrating, I was hoping that 2.2 would fix this. I've sent an email to Google regarding this and have yet to hear anything back.
So I'm not the only one then. It'll be interesting to see how many more Nexus One owners experience this issue.
Hope there's a solution somewhere out there.
Same ned a fix bad

I get the same problem using the FroYo radio (4.06).
No problems with the older 4.04 radio though. Unfortunately I can't use that with 2.2 of course.
I was in America using At&t and had no problems with 2.1. I moved to Turkey and got on Turkcell and had problems then either.
I installed 2.2 (since the first ones came out FRF50) and am now on the latest and ever since I have had similar problems. I have to reboot the phone when this happens and then it works for many hours until it happens again.
When I go into market it pops up a dialogue box and makes me hit retry twice and then works.
It would be nice if this was straightened out.
I just got off the horn with Google support. The SE had me do *#*#INFO#*#* then bring up the menu and choose "select radio band" I then set the phone for "USA Band" the phone confirmed success. This seems to have worked for me. Hope it helps you.
Yep, I already have mine set to Euro Band. The "3G Freeze" still occurs for me.
Interested to hear how you get on with that Band setting nonetheless.
I'm on AT&T and had fantastic signals prior to the FRF83B update. Since I updated the radio, I'm having the exact same issues. It's becoming a pain when I'm trying to stream internet radio, because it cuts out every 20 or 30 seconds. I also noticed the other day, where I use to get strength, I had *no* reception.
I've got an annoying problem with my phone where the Wifi turns off when my phone is idle or asleep. This means my WhatsApp for Web disconnects and also my Moto Connect plays up too.
I've got the same problem at home, work and parents house so can't be an issue with all 3 networks. The keep wifi on during sleep option is set to Always before anyone mentions this to me.
Phone is running Lollipop 5.0 in the UK and is NOT rooted.
I noticed it doesn't happen when the phone is charging though.
Any ideas?
Right I've now tried changing the Sleep setting to Never but get the same problem.
Also tried connecting to the router via WPS but no luck.
Router is a Superhub 2. I've ruled out that it's the Superhub as I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini that is running fine without a single drop out.
Definitely something Moto X related.
I've also tried on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands with same results!
Try looking within the WiFi settings on the phone. Mine has this

Mine is identical to yours other than the fact that I don't have the wifi optimization option.
Right I've just cleared the cache as instructed by Motorola support.
Still have the same problem even after clearing cache.
Ok I can confirm that the issue goes away when in safe mode.
This is starting to piss me off as I don't have any way of checking if it's an app affecting my wifi disconnections!!!
I've finally found and fixed the problem myself!!
I decided to turn my bluetooth on (even though it wasn't connected to any bluetooth devices). This seems to stop the phone from causing the wifi to go to sleep!
It seems like it's a bug in the Moto X Lollipop firmware. How do I report bugs to Motorola??
It's funny how most say it's apps that cause strange behaviour but for me it's been the actual Android firmware each time I've ever had an issue!
I hope it gets fixed soon.

It's a known bug of 5.0, and already fixed for 5.1. Source, at the "Bug fixes section".
Great that you found a workarround.
Cheers!
Manuel.
Hey glad to know it's a well known bug. The work around still doesn't work. It still keeps disconnecting all the time! Driving me mad!! If the 5.1 update doesn't fix it for me, I'll need to try and get a refund and go for something else. Shame as I really like the Moto X but I can't live with an issue as stupid as this!
I'm not sure Motorola are aware of this issue at all. See their comment below from one of their support staff I'm speaking to now:
Santhosh: We have not received any reports regarding Wi-FI issue after the Android Lollipop update but please give me a moment I will provide the solution for this issue.
His solution for the issue was to get me to do a factory reset lol. I already did this when I first got updated to Lollipop!!
Going to try doing another one now to see if it actually makes any difference. Then will install a few apps at a time or something.
I am connected to WiFi just about all of time, and I have never experienced this.
Right I've done a factory reset and started completely afresh with none of my data or apps restored. WiFi has been solid; I've not had a single drop out!
I'm going to install just a couple of apps at a time and keep an eye out if the issue comes back until I find the culprit.
Hi
My phone was perfect (until now) with the WIFI since november 2014 even after I upgraded it to 5.0
But today, it suddenly starts with this problem by itself. so I restored it to factory defaults with no luck, I installed a new firmware, and still has the bug.
So, why it shows up until now by itself without any mod, app or update?
Sorry for my English.
Today I upgraded it to 5.1 and the issue persists
I had to back to stock 4.4.4. and now my wifi has been fixed so far, working good without interruption until now.
I hope this has fix the problem from sourse, and I'll wait a few days to upgrade it again.
EDIT: Has been a month since my downgrade to 4.4.4. and my WIFI still rocks.
Just want to say that I'm having the same issue since the update to 5.1. Wifi is set to be always on during sleep, but I regularly wake up my phone only to find it connected to 4G, and switching to wifi a few seconds after waking up.
I'm on a locked bootloader (unrooted of course). I did a full reset after the update...
I'm sorry to say that I've seen more little glitches since 5.1 than anything I noticed on 5.0.
EDIT: another issue I'm having is the stock mail client not syncing saying that there is no network connection. My exchange account (push) works fine however...
Just to say the issue has started for me too since the update to 5.1.
I've done 2 factory resets but no luck trying to fix this very annoying problem.
Motorola have asked me to send my phone in for repair so I'll try that and see what happens.
I bought the Nexus 6 (blue, 64gb) the day one, in November and since that day I noticed random reboots in a particular situation. When I switch to a WiFi network to another it shuts down and so I have to turn it on. When it turns on I have lost all my WiFi networks configurations, so passwords, dhcp settings, etc.
Random reboots rarely happen also in camera/gallery apps.
I tried to send it back to google and I received a new nexus. The first one was produced in June 2014, the new one in December 2014. The issue is still there. [emoji17] I've also tried to update to 5.1 but no resolution.
I have rooted, installed twrp, decrypted both my nexus 6 with toolkit.
How can I solve the problem? I was very happy with this phone.
Try using it completely stock and see what happens. I'd say chances are that if you set both up the same, it's something you're doing and not the hardware on 2 different phones.
But other people have made the same basic mods on their nexus and their phone has not this kind of issue.
Is it every network? Maybe try a stable custom ROM to see if it happens there too. Could be a problem with specific networks or even apps. Troubleshooting is the key. First try full wipe, no restored Apps.
I could be as simple as an app the developer has not updated since gingerbread or something stupid like that.
Is there a way to find the malicious app?
There definitely *was* a bug causing loss of wifi networks, and I think there may also have been a reboot involved there (not sure if we rebooted it manually, or if it just did it on its own as a response to a wpa_supplicant crash...). It was across the board for Android 5.0 though, not limited to Nexus 6. I saw my wife's Nexus 5 do it once. Never actually had it happen on my 6.
I'm not sure if this bug was fixed or not, since it wasn't something we tried to reproduce, and only happened once. The bug is definitely related to wpa_supplicant, since that is the only program that actually interacts with its configuration file (which is where the wifi configurations are actually stored).
As far as galleries go, you're not giving much to guess by. I certainly haven't seen galleries cause reboots like that. Maybe you are using a bad one?
Try this gallery; https://github.com/lbdroid/Android-Binaries/blob/master/Gallery2.apk
That is the actual AOSP gallery, modified to install as a standalone application. The source code is in another repository on my github.
*note: it will not do you any good at all to swap out your phone, since there is no indication that you are experiencing a hardware issue.
But why other people doesn't experience this problem that is related to WiFi? All people use WiFi and every time. Is there a way to fix the WPA_supplicant issue? Maybe a custom ROM?
My first n6 had also an hw issue, I think, because before it rebooted it gave me some little "buzz" from the top speaker.

all people use WiFi is an incorrect statement. you can say most ppl use wifi, but all would never happen. I hate using WiFi and NEVER use it except when its absolutely necessary. ive probably used WiFi 2 times on my n6 since getting my n6 in November, and there's no WiFi issues here.

Yes, start with stock and install a few apps at a time until you get the problem. Given the fact that you have 2 different phones experiencing the same problem, it is much more likely that it is something software related rather than hardware (though I suppose it could be possible if you're really unlucky ).

You said that it happens when you change from one wifi network to another. Most people don't do that. Most people have one wifi network at a time and don't change it.
There is also a huge difference between wifi network configurations... A/B/N/AC, frequency, bandwidth, multiple-bands, encryptions, etc.
My first n6 had also an hw issue, I think, because before it rebooted it gave me some little "buzz" from the top speaker.
