[Q] HELP!!soft bricked GS-I9000 phone... - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello! I've soft bricked my phone. The advantage is it is still going to download mode(vol down+home+power). Except this if I try to POWER ON/Recoverymode in any way..it shows the soft bricked logo( attached jpg). When it was running with original stock from SAMSUNG, I used semaphore/cynogenmod to upgrade it to ICS. Well, it worked fine but I did a mistake by again flashing semaphore to restore the data I took backup earlier. Then It hanged at SAMSUNG logo. Then I tried ODIN to flash it to the original stock, it throws an error messages on the screen, "E: failed to mount /dbdata(Invalid arguement) copying media files…. E: failed to mount /dbdata(file exits) E: copy_dbdata_media: can’t mount /dbdata your storage not prepared yet. Please use UI menu for format and reboot actions media files copy failed. ” and some more msges. Then I tried HEIMDALL to flash it to the original stock..Again falied. Now it went to softbrick... Is there any solution for this or now the phone is only meant for PAPER WEIGHT at this stage. Sorry for the long story...I thought this description wil give you clear picture where I screwed up ,so that you can suggest a proper solution. Thnx in advance.

You need to read this and links in it, most likely you had lagfix, or you had converted your SD card to a different format , such that your SD card is not usable by stock ROMs., so you may nee to use an Ext SD card ( partitioned into two) to get your phone working first than try to recover your internal SD card..

hello,
i am planning to update my galaxy s i9000 but i'm little confuse in selecting the custom roms.can anyone tell me which rom and kernel i should use that can give better perfomence and prevents extra Battery drainage.
thank you.

If you want stable-Version... CM 10.1.3
instead nightly ... ==> CM 10.2
and optional flash semaphore-kernel ...but you haven`t to flash a kernel...CM 10.2 has a great one i think ...

galaxy tab dead

Well as the title says. My GT has died ..... Fuy to put a rom and I fault the burden of odin rom. Odin gave me FAILED. And where is the blue bar downloding stood. Remove the wire and give the keys and power vol-I got a tablet with a PC and a triangle in the middle. I did a total reset to odin and reloaded and I recognized the table with those marks mentioned and I reloaded. with the same result. I say good because if I load this rom will be posting JM6 say that fixes everything. odin Todal tells me the "reset" and "pass " say COOL! SOLVED. Nothing is further from the truth. I have been on the screen that says "GALAXY Tab" and there does not happen. Try the ROM put him "BROKEN V4"with the same fate .... Probe with the kernel of "overcome " not at all a kernel of MoDaCo for the theme of recovery if the recovery was installed and nothing in odin ... FAIL. The fact is that this might not dead yet it let me access the DOWLOADIG. I think there must be something BOOT.ini. but the ideas are beyond me. if they could resurrect a DHD. but as a tab ... if not with your help I can do little more
install the JM6 and I get the picture but then stays Galay SAMSUNG TAB AND DOWN ... not start see image of odin

My Tab was once in a state like this with the exclamation mark and picture of the little pc. I believe it's fixable, and I also think that it's actually harder to permanently brick these things than would first seem. I remember I even had an error during repartitioning, surely that would have been curtains but it wasn't.
This was my experience, and in my post I link to another post that contains some useful information on getting out of that error: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12719559&postcount=13
Try it like this
Uncheck repartition
Remove the pit file
Do not add anything for the 'Phone' and 'CSC' portion.
Just flash the PDA section.
See if that works.
This is the Dev forum, not questions forum.

Use this link. Download modem file and full file. Then flash with pit in odin. It will work. Same thing happened to me.
As long as you can access downloading screen it's not dead.

This medthod work for me
1. wait until the TAB discharge (about 1 Day)
2. Connect the tab to the computer
3. wait about 10 minutes
4.After boot please start odin
5.open odin and see status connect with odin and selcet pit file from your download
http://www.4shared.com/file/pThcn9Ml/P1000_new_Odin3_v17.html
After flash pit wait a minute your phone will reboot in to recover mode and restart
to samsung logo page
6.Flash roto firmware with ordin ( if can't flash with odin will change to Heimdall_1.1.1
http://files.deodexed.com/ModADroid-Galaxy-Tablet/Rotohammer/KM2/Roto-KM2-Full-v1.zip
7.After finish reboot your phone and boot into roto rom
8.Go to recovery mode
9.Flash customer firmware ( I used Overcome 1.6.4 )

Did you even read the sticky? If its still no rooted, try flashing a new stock rom via Odin and try rooting it again using the method mentioned in the sticky. Just in case you didn't understand what I'm rambling about here...the magic word of the day for you is.... 'STICKY'.
????????
No idea what u r rambling about .... no idea what u mean by STICKY, but i am new to the mobile chatter.
but i read the instructions yes .... and they seem to work with some phones and not with others ...
they do not work with mine and that's why i asked was there any root instructions that will work on 2.3.4 galaxy ace (DDKQ3) ...
so far, NO ONE has said YES.
Sticky means the sticky thread at the top of the galaxy ace forum. It has phone specific tutorials.
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA
Wow how unhelpful are you
I also have galaxy ace on 2.3.4 purchased in late march. The current methods for rooting don't seem to work anymore. The person who started the thread and myself would like some helpful advice from some1 who knows something about how this stuff work. Cause we don't and that's why we post!
Flash the attachments, and you've got root access. I've been using them for 2.3.4 as well as 2.3.6. Works like a charm.
Oh, and BTW, these are from the STICKY thread!
EDIT: I take you know what FLASHING means?! If not then go learn that first before you go any further. And use the SEARCH option. It's not there for baking biscuits!
I have tried to flash:
AceGingerRoot.zip
Root.zip
Universal_GB_ROOT.zip
Update.zip
upd_1.zip
None of these actually work. The root.zip you recommend comes up with an error the aborts.
I have S5830T and I just purchased this last month so things may have changed since you rooted your device. I'll try recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.6-galaxyace-fix.zip after I research what it actually does (OMG - Yes I'll use the STICKY).
I hope you realise that if it waas as simple as flashing the root.zip that we would not actually need to post and ask for help!

Well, if Flashing doesn't work try to push all the stuff using ADB. It never fails. And that root.zip, I've been using it since day 1 and still use it whenever I flash to stock using ODIN. Never stopped working for Me. Try the ADB method, and report back. Let's hope for the best. And if possible post the log of the error which you get during Recovery flash.

OMG the sticky sucks big time:
- It is meant for noobs but it doesn't explain the process of rooting, flashing with ODIN or CMW in any detail (it just says do it!)
- The links are all broken
- There is information from many different people making no sense to anyone new to smartphones
I mean are you ****ing kidding me!!! What a mess!!!!
I didn't get an iPhone because of the jailbreaking bull**** so I got an android and now this ARRRRRRR
I just want to put in proxy settings so I can use my WIFI at work, but I have to ROOT!!! WHY!!!!!!
Looks like i'll be reading bull**** information all night.

I just tried UNIVERSAL_GB_ROOT_V11 because the one I tried was V10
It didn't work, however I noticed that when I boot into recovery I get the error
"applying Multi CSC Can't access to '/system/csc/TLP/system"

I think this means I have to flash back to stock!
If so can you point me in the right direction for a ROM (I already have ODIN)

To update to GB you need to flash a official firmware via Odin, or update it using Kies
Once you've done it, you could flash a custom JB rom using CWM 5.0.2.6. FIX

[SOLVED][GT-P1000]rfs format failed on /dev/block/stl10

Hi, two days ago I've soft bricked my tab: GT-P1000(SPAIN/VODAFONE).And yesterday I successfully unbricked it using these files:

P1_add_hidden.pit
When I tried to boot it just got stuck on the samsung logo, I saw some tutorials saying that you should Factory Reset it, but I got this Error:
rfs format failed on /dev/block/stl10
Please I really need some help

Yeah I used that guide to unbrick my Tab, it successfully unbricked but I got stuck in the samsung logo.
I tried to factory reset but that error showed up.
Well can I still flash it with dbdata?
I solved the problem, I flashed using dbdata.rfs.tar and I could run GB 2.3.6
You can mark this thread as solved.

I have the same problem.
May i know where to download dbdata.rfs.tar ?
After downloading what should I do? Do I need .PIT files?
Thank you
I had the same issues as you guys. Gingerbread is so freakin unstable its not funny. I want to get off it but there seems to be no normal way to do this for my particular tab? Cause all the guides and recommendations I have followed do NOT work. I have posted my own thread in this section and have had not a single person reply? Is this place dead now? Are there no XDA members out there who are able to help?
Question. If a bootloader is locked at Froyo and you flash an unlocked Gingerbread bootloader is it now unlocked?
Anyway to the guy above me the attachment should be able to help you. Flash it with Odin as PDA :good:

Thank you Jamez. Appreciate.
So I just upload the attached file right?
---------- Post added at 01:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:30 PM ----------
I came across the following blog
galaxytabupdate.blogspot.sg
But note that gingerbird 2.3.3 link is not working redirecting to some video downloader.
Also the dbdata file size seems lot different.

That was the one that I used that allowed my device to boot. I also noted that this file was a different size to the one in the stock firmware that I downloaded. I also found out that no matter how much I tried I could not get the device to even boot using stock carrier branded firmware? So yeah that is as much as I can give you mate. I am a n00b in these areas (have dev'd for SGS1 and a number of other devices but I am n00b here in Galaxy Tab section) so I am still learning about this device.

[Q] Can't restore the IMEI (current, generic IMEI)

Hi,
last week, I upgraded a gifted i9000 for testing and fun purposes to CM10 from GB, and for that, I lose my IMEI (I have now the generic 0049990106400). I tried some methods to restore, but no one works.
The first of all I tried was back to GB. it didn't work. still 0049...
Then I tried to flash another GB using a pit file. it didn't work. still 0049...
Then I tried to flash a FROYO (JPU). it didn't work. still 0049...
Then I tried to wipe data / cache. it didn't work. still 0049...[/I
I didn't make a backup, but in my internal memory appeared a backup folder with an efs folder and nv_data file... I tried to restore using root explorer in a froyo version, checking the owner an permissions but it didn't work.
Trying coping only the nv_data, log and md5, but guess what?, didn't work.
Erase entire efs folder,
flash another FROYO checking "clear EFS" with odin... still 0049...
I back to GB but nothing happends...
Then I flash CM9 and CM10.2 but still the same. Can't restore the IMEI.
I checked the nv_data of the backup with an hex editor, and is filled (not 0's).
So... what can I do? I think I've readed every possible solution...
Any help is appreciate.
Thanks .

Sorry, I think I haven't explain right.
Remember that the Galaxy S, the lastest stock rom by Samsung is a 2.3.6 JW6. The jb only exits thanks to CM10. I think the phone was on 2.2 when I bought it... But I've already try to flash a 2.2 but didn't worked. Should I flash the branded version?
I've copied the nv_data and open with an hex editor... But I cant understand anything. Lots of 00's and FF's and sometimes another string.
I have a backup that CM automatic did. But didn't work.

LOL you are in wrong topic.
There are no stock JB roms for the i9000, not even "I scream sand witch" for the i9000 was ever released.

when nothing works
Final Solution:- solve efs problems
When NOTHING works and its going to drive you nuts, just walk down to your nearest Phone repair shop, find out how much they will charge for using their Riffbox to edit/fix the IMEI, and it can be resolved in a few minutes .
on the otherhand, when phone functions without any network issues, having 0049 IMEI is not a problem that needs serious attention, as it is only your Identity and most people don't want an identity that can be used to track their movements

I've read your topic lots of times... but nothing works... I suppose I must surrender and get the phone to the shop... I was asking if there was some news methods or something...
The only one I can't understand was: "Replacing keystr file ( If missing) in efs > imei folder " I checked another two i9000 that has their IMEI, but they didn't has the file...

yup, Samsung had them in their earlier versions, but as people found ways to edit and alter the NV Data files, they also made it impossible to edit, most people had resolved this issue by using their efs backup files when they jump from Gingerbread to Jbean immediately after losing their network connection, but some have tried everything possible and NEVER resolved until its done with the box

initially he told me they asked for 30, and it was ridiculous in my view as it will only take a few minutes.

ok, lets give it one more try cause many do not understand the procedure needed to be done when copy paste is involved.
when using root explorer, you need to save after copy paste (means over write existing efs folder with backed up folder) and use exit in menu of root explorer before rebooting.
