Hi everyone
My Father's I9070 runs on 2.3.6, I want to upgrade to 4.1.2 as is described here:
http://android.sc/update-samsung-ga...ial-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean-dxamd1-firmware/
but he insists that it must be possible to go back to current rom. I wanted to install CWM to make nandroid backup without root as is described here:
http://ssdroid.blogspot.com/2013/03/how-to-install-clockworkmod-on-samsung.html
but I encountered a problem, when I try to apply update, CWM.zip fails verification. After that I tried to root so I could install CWM from ROM Manager. I tried these methods:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660419
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1985199
but I cannot locate proper ROM. Phone was bought in Poland from ORANGE network. In "phone info" under "version number" it says GINGERBREAD.XXLK2.
after typing *#1234# it shows :
PDA I9070XXLK2
PHONE: I9070XXLK2
CSC: I9070OXXLI1
will these fit that phone:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-I9070&pcode=XEO#firmware
you my have to re-choose "POLAND-XEO" in "country" filed to see results.
Questions I have:
1. Does anyone have any idea how to install CWM? Preferably without Root.
2. If Root then how?
3. Should I flash 4.1.2 from
http://android.sc/update-samsung-ga...ial-android-4-1-2-jelly-bean-dxamd1-firmware/
or
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-I9070&pcode=XEO#firmware ?
4. Can I safely assume that 2.3.6 from above will work as backup if I want to come back?
Than you guys for any help

I got pre-rooted xxld1 (non branded by carrier bloatware XEO) 2.3.6 and I can upload it somewhere if needed.
CWM is on same partition as kernel - you need root to change this.
Easiest way would be to update to XXLQE (4.1.2 XEO non branded)
and then apply root.zip by Shaan for root (can be done in stock recovery)
UKF / temp CWM method to install CoCore with CWM and you are done ;]

Hello to all,

Thank you, Lunchbox for your fast reply !
But there are many CF-Root-Kernels.
Which one is the right ?
Sorry, but I am a newbie in Kernel-choice....
if you cant be bothered flashing kernels etc here is the the superoneclick method...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SuaXu8kusvA
just follow that and you will be rooted, then get titanium backup and do a batch backup
Use CF-Root for the JPO firmaware you have. Each kernel has the firmware extension at the end of its file name.

Superoneclick I have testet, but without success .
Does kernel JPO really fit my kernel JV8 ??
Same problem here.
After updating a t-mobile branded I9000 to 2.3.3 via KIES (including wipe) my programs and settings are gone.
All data has been saved in TitanBackup. Unfortunatly TB needs root.
SOC didn't work, now I'm looking for alternatives.
Heard, that cf-root can fix my prob, but still got following questions:
will cf-root work on my branded galaxy?
which cf-root version do I need?

Is there no solution available ?
As far as I know it is possible to root the Galaxy with the FuguRoot.
One thing that is still missing is the correct Odin flashable stock kernel.
Till now there is no kernel for the I9000BOJV8 available at Samfirmware.
I'll keep looking for the kernel.
Hoping to get a quick solution.

Need root only for backup
Hello xda-developers.com
I need some help according to this title "Need root only for backup" I hope I am here correctly.
My problem is:
The Phone turns automatically off without doing anything.
I started it but it get's in a loading loop.
I don't want to make a reset until I backup the data from my phone contacts, pictures etc...
I read in an other forum that it is posible to flash only the kernel via ODIN CF-ROOT_....
to activate some mounts & storage - usb in recovery. So the PC can use the phone as USB device to copy all data from the phone to the PC. Is this correct?
If yes i will need the correct CF-ROOT for this version below i tryed to find the CF-ROOT for this version but I did not find it for my version. Can you help me please?
My phone can load the download mode.

Hello everyone!
Have a froyo 2.2.1
These are the details from my phone (SAMSUNG GALAXY MINI GT-S5570):
Have a baseband S5570XXKA5
with kernel 2..6.32.9-perf
and build number FROYO.XWKAC
from dialing *#1234# got this info:
PDA: S5570XWKAC
PHONE: S5570XXKA5
CSC: S5570TMNKB1
Already have a CWM (ClockworkMod Recovery v4.0.0.5)
tried to backup stock rom several times I attach two log files that I extracted.
I am unable to mount (even mannualy) some partitions (if I am reading the logs correctly...)
Does this mean I can't backup stock ROM?
If I do can backup, how should I do it?
Can these errors be related to the fact that I am not using the most recent version of CWM?
I also have another version of CWM for my device. This is a zip file with version 5.0.2.6.
But, as it is a zip file with no IMG file in it, I am afraid that it would harm the phone if I would use it on the CWM recovery that is accessible through boot.
Is it possible to use CWM 4.0.0.5 to update itself?
I tried to use Rom Manager to update CWM (and to backup the rom, and you may very well check that because the names of the logs are different) RM didn't even recognize the already installed CWM, let alone update it or backup the stock rom...
So... can I really update CWM to try that route to backup stock rom?
How to use the zip file? (can I use it with CWM v4.0.0.5 or with ODIN 4.38?)...
I must say that I used ODIN 4.38 to flash the current CWM but the 4.0.0.5 CWM was a tar file.
Finally, all the info that I searched (here and elswhere) says that it is possible to come back to froyo (with the help of samfirmware site) but as I am such a noob I cannot find any ROM that is the same as the one I currently have.
I currently have Titanium Backup installed and it states that the ROM was build on the 2011/02/01 12h12 (can that be of any help to locate the default stock ROM from the ones that are available at SAMFIRMWARE?).
My carrier is TMN from Portugal, but until now, with this info I haven't been able to locate the 'one' ROM that would reassure me that I could upgrade and still have plenty of odds to come back to the startup 'scenario'.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.

Hello thadead,
Yours is a very assertive answer. So I don't have any chance...
But with the info I gave, can I have the 'stock' ROM from samfirmware???
And just some doubt: how did samfirmware got the so called stock roms in the first place?
Thanks for any assistance.
Samfirmware probably could have ripped from Kies update I guess. Not sure though!

another way can be to check with "check fus downloader" for you rom...

Welcome! to xda-forums. If I can guess it correct then I know you ( I don't want to name you here for your privacy concern).
So, after some research around, I found it very difficult to find a firmware for your TMN device. However, I suggest you try another sim card and see if your device is sim unlocked or not.
If you phone is sim locked either wait for TMN to upgrade your rom or just unlock it. Also, since you said you have CWM v4, is it in Froyo that you have to the rom? If yes then I suggest you have CWM v5 and try to do a nandroid backup [I believe v5 will work since v4 worked]. If you are already on GB rom then try flashing a custom rom.
More talk when I hear from you!
Will try your suggestions

Hello Yagya!
Yes you got it right! (It's who you think it is...)
Now, yes, it's on froyo that I have the CWM (4.0.0.5 that you have on your blog on the tools section, I found that out by comparing md5 hash from the one that I had downloaded from bunnybugs_007 tutorial).
But I am curious to what makes you think version 5 would work on my froyo? Isn't v5.0.2.6 designed for GB or later??? And also isn't v.5.0.2.6 a buggy version?
Summing up: You say I should try v5.0.2.6 out. Should I use my zip file (which I downloaded from clockworkmod site), and use the option '(..)update.zip' from the CWM recovery itself, or should I flash your recovery.tar.md5 that you linked on your blog, doing it with ODIN?
This question is puzzling me: can CWM be used to 'update' itself on its own recovery mode???? Am almost sure it is impossible... and scares me to try...
Besides, the CWM zip file that I've gotten from Koush site doesn't have an IMG file in it, but only folders and such...
Finally I am sure I have the android simlocked (because I've just checked it)...
Will try then to unlock if that is the scenario...
If the carrier would be more thoughtful I would be less troubled...
Thanks...

As I read in this post, you have to flash an older stock rom, root it, then flash the new stock rom using mobile-odin with keep root option on.
Text from the post:
"As New ROMs are not direct rootable, you cant root it direct method like Zergrush exploit or CF-Root, If you want such new ROMs Rooted, You shud have currant Older ROM installed, If you are not rooted and flashed Newer ROM, first downgrade to older ROM as above said.then you may update n Root it with one of following two methods."
XXLA6
i want also root my note
Baseband Version : N7000XXLA4
Buildnumber: GINGERBREAD.XXLA6
KERNEL: 2.6.35.7-N7000XXLA6-CL907341 [email protected]#2
anyone how and what to use
As jellevanb wisely stated... This thread holds the answers: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
I was on La6, flashed KKA with PC Odin, then used CF-Root for KKA (props to Chainfire for his amazing work) then flashed LA6 on-device using CWM Manager that was installed with CF-Root. Now I have La6 with root
I also was on LA6, flashed AbyssNotekernel42CWTouchOriginalLogo.tar with PC Odin then used CF-Root-SGN_XX_SER_LA6-v5.0-CWM5. It worked for me.
The easiest way to gain root would be this:

CWM on galaxy note
hey guys i have rooted my galaxy note but i want install MIUI Rom
i think need first clockworkmod ,
have wacthed so many videos but still i dont know how to do it
Hi
First of all, I come from the Archos world so Samsung is a bit strange for me.
I live in Morocco and I run an old firmware. It is rooted with zergrush and has got CWM and mobile odin. My GN is now on KK2/KK5/KK2 and it aqked me to do an update : LA1/LA4/LA1. I tried through FOTA but it failed in recovery (well at boot). My first questions are about this firmware : should I do it by kies or will it be the same? Does the update deletes root? (then could anyone tell me where to get the firmware to flash in ODIN) Does the update wipes data partition or resets Android (as in deletes settings accounts apps)?
Then I would like to get the ICS update as soon as it gets out. Does it require the update above? I tried to get info about it on Sammobile.com but I can't manage to find my product code in any of the firmwares (MAT - Rare?) but I see that there is another update for Morocco (product code FWD). Then same questipns as above : can I flash it through Odin directly?
Sorry for my bas English and for the noob questions as I'm not used to the large number of versions firmwares.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
The reason the update fails is probably because you're rooted and have CWM installed.
When you update through Odin you will lose root. The easiest way to update to an official rom is by flashing a pre-rooted firmware with Odin from the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1535025
You can pick any rom you'd like. You can find the LA4 update there but you can also flash LC1 which is a newer version.
After you have succesfully flashed with Odin you have a rooted firmware but no CWM yet. To get CWM you need to download a separate package from the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18978158&postcount=1
Scroll down a bit to section "2. I Want ROOT + CWM" and download the appropriate package. If you chose to flash LA4 then get the package for LA4, if you flashed LC1 then get the package for LC1 etc.
Extract the package you downloaded and execute "already-rooted.bat" and CWM will be flashed.
After that you have an updated and rooted firmware with CWM recovery.
Thanks for your reply. So basically I just need to get back to a stock rooted and then reinstall CWM?
But then I will still have the issue when updating to ICS right?
Ps : I see the LC1 version but it says France. Will I be able to flash it? (then maybe also the ICS after because the France and Moroccan have the same version LPY or sonething)

Follow the tutorial on a rom, what you want to install... I think you will have to root your device, then go to JVU Stock 2.3.6 Gingerbread rom, then you free to install any CM9 or CM10

First xou have to root your device, then you have to install the cwm recovery, download the Rom and the gapps from a thread. Next you have to do a backup if you want to go back to 2.1. And after this you have to do a full wipe from recovery and then install the Rom and afterwards the gapps and then reboot.
Hope i helped
You can try superoneclick to root your phone. I was on 2.3.3 I9000M and rooted using one click tool. The tool supports many other models. Make sure USB debugging is enabled and all the drivers are installed. Connect your phone and turn on USB, choose auto under Exploit section and click root. Download the tool (Latest Version) from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
If rooting process is Successful, superuser will be installed automatically in your phone.

Model: GT-I9000T
Firmware Version: 2.1-update1
Baseband Version: I9000TUBJG7
Kernel Version: 2.6.29
[email protected] #2
Build Number: ECLAIR.UBJG5
did you figure anything out? I found the firmware (2.3.3) for my model and country (Trinidad and Tobago) at samsung updates but my problem is that I don't know which Odin program to use for my model.
I was thinking about using the update method intended for the GT-I9000 to update my I9000T to gingerbread. Apparently the phones are identical except that the GT-I9000T supports 850 MHz 3G while the GT-I9000 supports 900 MHZ 3G instead. I am wondering if it will work without bricking my phone
