I bought Razr i last week at Three network in UK. And I'm wondering if unlocking bootloader is a smart thing to do knowing that it voids warranty. I've rooted etc. a ton of phones but none of them had a warranty anyway. How commong are hardware issues with XT890? I guess all software issues I'd be able to fix on my own but hardware is a different matter. How many of you had to send it back on warranty to get your phone fixed?

My S-Pen stopped working. I tried another one and it didn't work either. There were a few brief moments where it worked, once after a wipe of the ROM and once after switching the right-left handedness of the pen. Now it doesn't work anymore, ever. It is probably just a coincidence, but I started having problems some time after flashing CM9. It seems like a hardware problem, but if it is software is there anything else I can try?
Have you tried going back to stock gb via odin and testing it again. If it doesn't work on stock its probably hardware related, you can claim under warranty

Thanks for the response.
Yup, I tried going back to stock GB. No luck.
My phone does not have a warranty. Oh well.
why does it not have warranty ? it should still be in the 12-24month limit.
Is it on contract ? Usually network providers have a warranty that lasts the length of the contract. Mine does (vodafone UK)
So if samsung wont repair it, your carrier might.

I bought an international Note it from Negri in the US. I thought there was no warranty, but it may be with the manufacturer outside of the US. I contacted them (Negri) for support yesterday and will see what happens.
Update:
Negri said I had to go to Samsung. Samsung's web site did not recognize my phone and directed me to their help line 1-888-987-4357. They said they do not support unlocked phones. They forwarded my call to someone 'who can help you with unlocked phones.' I explained the problem and was just about to get my warranty work done when they said oh, you are in the US we are in CANADA, I can't help you. Now back to Negri.
I also noticed that if I twist my phone just right the pen starts working again. Re-seating the connectors did not help.
Hey guys, So i bought a Moto x from rogers in Canada 2 weeks ago. I then proceeded to unlock the phone to be able to use it with bell. I got the code from cell unlocker. 4 days ago i noticed specs of dust under the camera glass and on the camera lens, and sometimes the dust will make a little black spot on the pictures i take. Today i contacted motorola and they said i need to send my phone in for repair, but if i send it in for repair they warned me that my phone will be reflashed to rogers software and my phone will not be unlocked anymore. Will i be able to unlock the phone again? with the same code? or will i be out of luck and have a rogers only phone? is this unlocking thing a permanent thing?
if they give you back your phone with the same IMEI number the unlock code should work again.
If they give you a different phone, whether new or refurbished, you will need to purchase a new unlock code. This is most likely to happen.

Hey there,
I sorry if my question sounds a bit stupid, but the unlocking you were talking about is the bootloader unlock? Dont you loose warranty after unlocking your bootloader?
I want to mess with my moto x, but if i unlock my bootloader from motorola´s site, i loose my warranty. If i root my phone, i also loose warranty, but what if i root, install roms, and then got back to stock without messing with my bootloader, can i still send my phone to warranty i any problems arise?
thanks in advanced...
cheers
Hello there.
First of all sorry if was maybe asked hundreds of times but at least from the phone app I wasn't able to find my questions.
I have a T-Mobile version.
If I'll request an unlock code thus I'll unlock it, then I'll be ever able to relock it and get back my warranty?!
Thanks!!!

No, your warranty is gone as soon as you request your bootloader unlock code, even if you don't unlock the phone.

Indeed, I can understand if is a CPU problem or any HW issue derived by silly things like overclocking and so on, by if my display lose is placement and glue? Aka manufacturing issue. BTW for now its okay. I'll miss a bit my GravityBox and pie but IMHO the os is kinda perfect.

I like to think of it as a step in the right direction at a minimum. They provide a way to unlock the bootloader which is a positive.
I know they don't want bogus warranty claims because people have bricked their phone but I suspect the returns due to bricking are much more related to the root exploits used on bootloader locked phones then on ones with the bootloader unlocked. I am also thankful many providers have approved of the unlocking, such as Rogers in Canada. It is a shame Verizon and AT&T have decided against it with the non-dev editions phones.

I totally agree with you. I mean, I would prefer the Sony way where if they detect that the problem is related to the unlocking they will charge u. Otherwise it is fine. But I know that is a wasting of resources and money and for a reborn company now is better focusing on other things. Regarding the carrier thing that is something pretty weird. What I hate more than anything else is the "exclusive" thing. Annoying at best. That why I prefer having less signal and have my phone unlocked but more important WITHOUT the creepy CARRIER LOGO... Jeez.

Hey did a search and didn't find an answer, or at least didn't see it.
So if you get your N6 from a carrier (except VZW cause they don't offer) and unlock the bootloader does that void insurance or warranty?

depends on your carriers rules. most likely it does void your warranty.
Not really sure it applies to insurance I jumped into the pool with my last phone while drunk . The phone still booted was unlocked and on Verizon ...they still sent me a new one .
I am also running my N6 on Verizon currently. It stayed locked for like 12 hours until I remembered all the reasons I run a rooted phone; ad blocker, back up, customization.

I recently bought a huawei phone(P9), since i never had a huawei phone, is there any unofficial method for unlocking the bootloader?
I've read about dc-unlocker, does it give you the unlock code without voiding the warranty or it's like doing it officially?
Actually bootloader unlocking methods are usually official and provided by manufacturers. However, since that procedure allows you to do some operations that may hurt your system, they have a user agreement that includes warranty things too. So it is not possible for anyone to stay with unlocked bootloader. However, you can lock it again in order to restore your warranty.

Actually, since all your phone's details are sent directly to Huawei to request the bootloader unlock, won't your warranty be automatically voided?
One of the reasons I've avoided going this route, as we have the "premium" 2 year warranty service with the P9 in my region.

If you buy through a network operator you may still be entitled to your warranty. I recently sent back a P9 to my network (Vodafone UK) with an unlocked bootloader through Huawei and they replaced my phone. Even had a stock image flashed and not their own ROM. The phone would not turn on for whatever reason (never did any kernal tweaking or installed a custom ROM, used the phone for about 3 months too without any issues). So I sent it to Vodafone UK for a warranty repair and had it back in my hands in 2 weeks no questions asked no extra fees. I just played dumb at the store and said it stopped working and didn't go into any further detail as to what the issue could be.
Your mileage may vary.

Yes, you are correct. The first year of warranty is with my service provider. The second year is through Huawei directly.

It is possible, but depends on which country you are in. In most of the countries (at least in mine) mobile phone warranties are handling by some local contractors, not by Huawei or Samsung themselves. Since there is no info share between them, the only way they can learn if you unlock the phones bootloader or not is look into it by the phone itself.
