"Encryption Unsuccessful" - Moto X Q&A

First, I'm rooted, and have safestrap on my Verizon Moto X. So my homescreen wallpaper seemed misaligned so I reboot, and comes up to a screen saying "Encryption Unsuccessful" and says I have to reset my data. I ended up having to delete that rom slot and make a new one. So all is ok. I'm just wondering has anybody else had this happen?

Many times at random

All the time. It doesn't seem to be picky about when it happens either.

Does this happen on v3.63?

I haven't seen this on the new release, just bootloops after trying the AT&T deoxed from. Strange thing it didn't happen till the 3rd reboot. Off topic my apologies but bootloops on not stock slots on anything but stock restores is my pain.

[Q] Call Problems CM10.1.3-RC

Flashed cm10.1 release candidate today. Everything seemed fine, then I discovered I wasn't receiving calls and wasn't able to make calls either. Anybody have any similar issues? Anyone have any suggestions as to what I may have done to cause this or if there are any settings I may need to change? Please help. Thanks in advance.
I literally just had this problem and spent the past 5 hours with useless tech support.
Don't call Sprint tech support, they just end up doing something on their end that makes you lose your texting and data, too. They ****ed me so hard I have to go into a repair center.
I can't even get another phone correctly activated in the meantime to use as a placeholder.
I'm just as lost as you are, too.
Try ##786# menu and reset. Make sure you are in a good signal area, this will do hands free activation and update prl.

The problem with trying that is the phone number and MSID fields are now blank, and going into the other dialer menu ##221542# and setting them that way doesn't stick past the reboot it forces when you try and apply those.
Maybe try following this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45055982

Tried that a couple different times with a couple different tech support reps, each time the phone number and MSID don't stick afterwards.
Sorry I tried, I don't have any other ideas. Hopefully someone else can help.

My older phone is finally activated (took well over an hour for calls and data to come back to it, by far the longest I've ever seen a phone take). So at least I have a phone again.
Good luck OP, I'm going to visit a Sprint store tomorrow to see what they say. Report back in on whatever it is you try and what you find does/doesn't work.
Did you try set ril.class to HTCCDMAQUALCOMMRIL in the build.prop

Yeah, I just read through the entire thing, that line is missing. I'll add it in and see what changes.
Posting again instead of editing for the sake of the bump.

It didn't do anything. I'm heading to a Sprint store right now.

Back from the Sprint store, the rep I had happens to be a flasher like one of us. I explained to him what had happened and he got right to ordering me a new phone after a $50 deductible.
So, OP, we were both SOL. The MSID had gotten corrupted (similar to how in the early days of the Galaxy S3, it had a chance to lose its ESN) and couldn't be re-written. Only thing to do is get a replacement.

[Q] KitKat Update ATT phone but Straight Talk Service

Will the update still be pushed to my device..will be getting it this friday. thanks
You should... Just make sure your apns are correct.
I went through the whole process of testing the 4.4 leak, downgrading to 4.2 using rsdlite and then got the official ota for 4.4 immediately on first boot. All on straight talk. Everything went perfect =).

Sorry it took so long to respond. I do get good lte speeds with straight talk. I'm near Eugene, Oregon and the highest I've gotten was about 3 megabytes/sec. I don't recall the exact speed as I did it early on and only did once because it ate up so much data. I'll try again later tonight and give you an update.
As for the apn, I use the ones listed on their website. Before lte sims were available, there were a few alternatives for apn settings. However, since the lte SIM card change, I can only find the ones listed on the website.

Not the best I've seen but my lte speed test update is 1.3mb/s which is still pretty good.

Anyone receive Verizon 4.4.2 on stock X?

I posted a couple times in the release thread but it got lost in all the posts about rooted and unlocked versions. So has anyone on Verizon with stock moto X receive the 4.4.2 update yet?

Yes, I got it Monday about 9:30-45 in the morning. Not a soak tester, however I am registered on Motorola Connect. Just wait, it is not a big change and everything works basically the same. Chris

So nothing noticeable but nothing worse signal strength same as before?
Signal seems the same for me. Camera seems better for me but who knows. Nothing really noticeable for me but I don't use exchange so I'm not sure if that bug was squashed.
I side loaded it btw didn't get the OTA.

havne't got anything yet over here! still waiting impatiently....
Woke up this morning to a "your phone has an update available" message. Downloaded itself and was waiting to install.
I did notice that I had to reboot the phone to connect to Wifi after the update, but so far everything is looking solid. Haven't checked bluetooth or NFC yet.
I got mine today too..tried to install and it failed.. I'm root using jcases method of rockmymoto and had to do it by adb shell.. Could that affect it?
Slapped my Moto
Woke up this morning to the update! After today's use, battery is definitely better.

Moto service automatically downloaded 135MB 4.4.2 OTA for me, OVER THE MOBILE DATA. I only had 300MB data for the month and am not amused that the phone just decided to download OTA by itself even when WIFI was turned off. Furthermore, I can't find any place to disable such behavior for the future. Any suggestion ?
Mine is verizon.
Thanks.

I've looked in and out and haven't found any setting that can disable such OTA behavior.
I'm actually using another carrier's SIM on this phone ---- Verizon Moto X is gsm unlocked.
What if this happens when I'm roaming internationally (with a non-Verizon carrier) ?
Downloading OTA via mobile data without consent just doesn't make sense.

If you are rooted you can freeze MotorolaOTA app or rename it.

Recently Increased force close/app stopped working on 4.4.4?

As title. I seem to be having a lot of force closes on unrooted, xt1052, no carrier, 4.4.4 with new versions of apps. Gapps and 3rd party, but especially (and surprisingly) Gapps, including Gsearch!
Running ART, but this has not been an issue previously.
Anyone else?
Sent from my XT1052 using XDA Free mobile app
No carrier could be the issue. Do you still experience them when in airplane mode with WiFi on?
Thanks, by no carrier I meant unbranded/unlocked/no carrier interference. Same on WiFi only. Maybe a factory reset is in order.
