Hi everyone in this forum,
Just a quick question, a friend of mine owns a SGS+ I9001 and he's running stock rom, I wanted to install a custom rom for him, (I know I'm not supposed to ask these kind of questions) which rom do you recommend me, it needs to be as stable, fast and battery friendly as possible, I hope you could help me, thank you very much before hand!
Have a nice one!

All CM9 based roms are stable. Also the CM10 based roms are stable but they might have some bugs.

I'm using Ivendor's CM10 alpha 6 now. It works very well. But you should read in the SGS+ section what rom is the best for yourself. For myself Ivendor's CM10 is the best because I have now JB working on my phone like on a nexus device.
I agree that ivendor's Kernel are one of the most snappier ever so far.
Thank you guys, thank you very much, just another question, is ivendors CM10 stable enough for a person that knows very little about android to use as a daily driver? Thanks again!

NO, it's not perfectly stable, because it's an ALPHA release, however most of us use it as a daily ROM. One or two random reboots in one month, some minor freezes - I think it's worth it, the performance is outstanding, especially with some 3.x.x. kernels. Anyway, wait for RC version, if you want stock rom - like stability.
You could also try one of the CM9 releases. They've been around longer and are probably more stable than the CM10 ones.
I'm using arco's release (can be found http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1650615) which has only very few quirks left. The only ones I run into sometimes are a problem with the compass (something strange is going on with the magnetic field sensor) and GMail / Facebook occasionally display only a white screen (which can be fixed by killing and restarting the app) (which can be mapped onto long-pressing the back button).
There's also ivendor's release, which has some other fixes but hasn't been updated for quite some time. There's also a number of remixes, an AOSP release by broodplank, AOKP, and MIUI.
Basicly, there's a list here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1901212
The JB's are bound to have some bugs, don't flash them if you don't plan on updating as well. ICS is probably rather stable and most GB releases are probably stable as well.
Fastest: probably AOSP (so brood's release) and JB (project butter and all)
Most battery-friendly: GB
Stable: anything but JB

Hi peeps!
So... moving away and not spam the other dev and general threads, I just wanted to open a new one where we can discuss about the differences between CM10 on old bootloader (cause the other roms are soooo 2011 ) and the new STOCK ICS great tuned roms on NEW BOOTLOADER
I was using DM v30b ICS for a long time and I was pretty satisfied! But after I saw the call bug fix on the official CM10, I didn't even think about it and replaced it
Not that the DMs version isnt fine, but I was remembering that the CM10 version on old bootloader was pretty awesome!
Im using the CM10 official and the only thing I would say against it is the battery life Everything else is awesome!
P.S. This thread is not for DEVs, cause I dont want to offend anyone with posts like "This ROM is much better than this".
Every dev here is FUK*n AWESOME and the jobs they do are amazing... Be honest... before our devs started to tune the phones, we would all be on some freakin apple ****s! (sorry for my language!).
Keep up that good job and ignore our post and threads, its just sharing opinions between consumers
PUT yOUR OPINIONS IN HERE RIGHT NOW !
That's right, Official CM10 is Awesome since LG release their source code. But I will be honest, I tried the first Stock ICS v30a and I was not happy with it because of the speed...even if we have 2 cores. Then I return to cm10...but since we have official source code, the devs start making custom kernel which are really AWESOME, seriously. So, I'm now on cm10 (old bt) with Pidocchio kernel (old bt) for about 5-6 weeks...and it rocks. :good:

CM10 for new bootloader by pengus77
Flashed it yeastarday and the battery life is amazing.
I think cm 10 is pretty awesome, the only thing holding it back for me using it is the battery drain
And LG's official ICS was ***t if u need something thats stable ( i know it doesn't really belong here ) i think u need to back to GB like temasek's builds, but that's my meaning
pengus77 is doing a very nice job. and like marsgod took his fix to gerrit to be reviewed by cm team and they included into official repository, i think pengus77 job should too. in that way, no need to continue with the new bootloader cause is a waste of space and a mess for everybody to move there with nvflash. id we can continue using our gb bootloader and partition layout, that one we used during about 1 year, why not continue if it is working alright? my vote for cm10 official with those all changes commited into cm repository.
I'm using original locked and unrooted 30B in Italy even it is made for ESA region.
I think that this rom is near to be a definitive stable rom: very smooth and fast, no problems except for a battery drain still high (20 hours autonomy with 40% wifi); the camera could be better, too.
I'm very happy of it and I'm waiting for the same LG release for EU.
I never used overclocking or custom kernels even if I tested most of the custom roms available here on XDA. I must say that I never found a real advantage nor stability testing these roms, maybe now the time for them is near to be over.

I am still on Temasek's CM7 as I needed long battery and rock solid/stable operation... Waiting for our CM10 team to fix the battery drain (old boot loader) and I'll take the dive
I have a question about the call bug: when does it usually show up?
I have never experienced it, but at the same time none of my calls are ever longer than 5 minutes.
I'm still on a really early version of CM10, and I've never run into the call bug.
Only problem really is the WiFi drain. Has that been fixed? I haven't been keeping up with the latest nightlies.

The call bug was said to be caused by a race condition - meaning it creeps up unexpectedly depending on the activity done with the phone in that timeframe.
As for wifi drain, flash the kernel tonyp compiled (containing pengus77's fix), onto any CM10 nightly that came out after the V30a sources dropped (basically December onwards).
You really should get a nightly from December onwards - a lot of things, not just the call bug, were fixed or improved along the way. I'm on 01/03 and having an improved experience over the SU660-based sources.
CM10 by arcee is very stable for me with self-compiled kernel of 24mb ramhack and patches from wkpark(including the lg twin boot logo fix). Very smooth and no BSODs and call bug. Just waiting for cm10.1 to be released by arcee.

Just to clarify, I flash the ROM first and then flash the kernel afterwards? Do I need to re-flash the kernel every time I flash a new nightly?

Yes and yes (since a new nightly will overwrite whatever kernel you have).

And just one last question:
So the callbug is fixed on the newest nightlies, but the WiFi fix has not been submitted/merged yet? So if I want the WiFi fix I still have to flash the kernel tonyp compiled, which I'm assuming is this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36032539&postcount=661 ?

A ROM without bugs?! Hah! It's right next to the pot-of-gold at the end of the rainbow (just to the left of the unicorn).
Marvel 11 is highly configurable, with a few (minor) quirks. I'm thinking that v12 is coming soon, at least that's what the tea leaves are reading. There were a couple of scripting issues, mainly with boot animations (you don't necessarily get the one you ask for).
I played with IZS, but I really appreciate the AROMA installer that Marvel uses.

Hahaha...
A different recommendation in almost every reply... Will throw my two cents in.
Currently running Mackay ROM v2.7.6 (JB 4.2.2). Works great in general but has a few of the common snags as all the JB 4.X.X roms. Camera issues, bluetooth is mute and any apps installed tot he SD card get uninstalled on every reboot (solution is to install to internal memory) are the only main things. I'm looking for something a little more stable and need bluetooth to operate properly for work when I'm driving.
I'm about to try Marvel ROM v11 (ICS 4.0.4) today. Will post up later and share my thoughts.

You should go for IZS, but Marvel is also a great ROM
Zeus 7.06
I also would recommend zeus 7.06.Best battery, fastest, most stable ROM (for me anyway). :good:
Also, flashing the latest Diana kernel is easy:just flash it from CWM with "install zip from SD" option.
Good luck!
I'm happy with the jellybam 6.7.0 rom.. Only bug i can find is that the dolphin browser wont start.. Everything else works fine..
Just installed Marvel v11 and WOW!!! It's awesome!
The level of customization is almost overwhelming, (but that's ok because I like lots of options...lol). It runs fast, smooth, stable, looks great and only a few minor issues thus far, but I believe these issues have solutions (I just have to sift through all the posts to find the answers...).
Im really enjoying SlimBean, its thin, the camera works on a great quality, no chipmuk voice, the video recorder works fine and all on jelly bean. After test ICS and JellyBean, i will never back to ICS. Dont know why, but seems lightier than other versions of android. :cyclops:

You're saying the camera in Slim ROM works well? Is video recording smooth and not jumpy (low frame rate or high)?
Also, do you know if bluetooth works properly (not mute)?

on specs of slimbean shows that the video recorder is on 720p, but i dont know if it is. And i dont tested the bluetooth, i already back to stable cm10 because i have an issue with battery drain on slimbean, almost got 7 hours, maybe is a problem with my baseband version, but is a great rom. Well, i found a apk of stock camera of ICS and works well...

and cm10-lge-camera that i found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2091599
with cm10 stable i can get 1 day and 7 hours of battery, with another roms, less then 8 hours because i not use 3g, wifi sometimes.

SlimRoms is the JB which has a better battery consumption. If you are looking for fluency and long battery life the supressed V7 is fantastic.
All i can find for my lg optimus 4X is nightly made JB 4.3 roms , any one know when will be the stable CyanogenMod version of JB 4.3 releases.?
Stable will most likely be when they shift focus to 4,4.
CM 10.2 is pretty much stable as-is in the nightlies now, flash one and try.
Official Vanir Rom from Nuclearmistake.
It for me fastest and stable 4.3 Rom.
Better than CM because on Cm i was having sometime lags.

what means stable ? even the stock rom 4.1.2 has lags , bugs, etc. most of custom roms in all xda are stable enough cm is stable , everything is stable. depends on the use and the needs. if i use a rom thats built for power save and play games all day then i will say its not stable -.- and if i do the other way around then ill say that i have huge battery drain for nothing. anyway. all are stable these days. everyone has done a great progress !
RIL-bug appears
I'm on nightly from the 26th and this bug appears frequently.
All data drops and the indicator goes blank, lately the only
fix is a reboot. Datadrops have been following this rom but seems to
accelarate. I will try latest nightly in a couple of hours.
Wi-fi works just fine.
Does these Roms contains Slug-zero? That is some kind of patch that
force the radio to keep up. It was build in by Quarx-rom for Motorola Defy

But I decided to try to flash and test Kholks Rom, maybe just for a while until I read the TUT hard, to build some confidence up
Very sad that the CM-team doesn´t take this bug serious since it been there for a long time.

what do you think about CarbonRom? i just flashed it but got some errors, but i want to figure it out cause i think this ROM is pretty light and smooth.. (from the review i read)
It's a hit and miss actually IMO. I found CarbonROM to be pretty stable for me. You just have to try i guess, because finding a "truly, perfectly stable" ROM is impossible. Every ROM has its ups and downs, so does with the bugs and stability. Choose which ROM suits you best, and try them for some time. If it crashes/you suddenly hate it etc. then find another ROM or maybe another version of the former ROM. Trust me, It's a bit of pain in the arse at first but it's worth it in the end.
ICS is old and it's not smooth like newer versions like jb and kitkat.
CM10.1 is smooth but drains battery fast.
CM11 is the best but it's buggy (fc, random reboots...etc)
so my advice is to stick to jb 4.1.2 (stock or custom) until we get a stable lollipop (hope this will happen soon)

So much time has passed since the release of KK and AFAIK there is still no stable KK ROM for this device.

because bauner's CM12 even it is still in alpha stage, there is no overheating, graphic glitch, force-close (well, there is few but due to some apps that didn't get updated to fully support android L) and random reboots, and because Lollipop is a "true" update from Google since 2011, so don't expect that Google was playing all these years and only changed the UI and added some fonts there is about 5000 change/update in the SDK so android lollipop for sure will support even low end phones with 512MB of ram and new apps will have a ton of features.
I know that the Exynos motherboard for the SII and N7000 is a real Crap from Samsung but at least those issues related to it, if not fixed they will at least be reduced like the overheat issue still persist but not as bad as in KK.
Or maybe it's Google+Samsung fault which made it impossible to have stable kk for our device
