The amount of frustration I've gone through within the past three weeks is ridiculous. I originally purchased a C6903 model and expected it to work on my AT&T LTE network, and it didn't. I fully acknowledge that that is completely my fault for not doing enough research and just willy-nilly buying it. It became apparent that we US customers need to wait for the C6906 model, which Canada got very recently (and the Sony stores in Canada got today).
Seeing as how Canada got it, I was expecting the USA to get it as well. I mean - we got the original Z, why wouldn't we get the Z1 as well? It's a much better phone than the Z, and based on these forums - it looks like there's a bit of a demand for it here in the US as well.
I am fortunate enough to have Canadian friends that are willing to ship the phone to me, great! I contacted multiple Bell, and Rogers stores and a few of them said that they don't have any in stock, and one of them said they'll be getting some today (as of 10/18). It also appears as if the phones from Bell/Telus are carrier locked, and in order for Bell or Telus to unlock it, you have to pay a fee - fine. The fee is $60 CDN for Bell and whatever for Telus. My friend heads over to the Bell store this morning only for them to say that 1) they don't have it in stock, and 2) they are only willing to unlock it to Bell customers. Wtf?
I also contacted the Sony store in Markham, Ontario, only for them to tell me that they'll have none left for the open public as of today because they're all reserved for pre-orders; and that they'll be getting more soon for those who didn't pre-order. One store told me they'll be getting some next month, and another store told my friend this morning that they expect to get some next week.
Why the hell is Sony not releasing this amazing phone in the US? We shouldn't have to be jumping through so many hoops to get a phone that was released in Europe a while ago. I read in a recent article that they're trying to focus on the European market and not on the US for some silly reason.
So I guess now I'm going to be placing an order through the Sony store in Canada and will hope that they'll get a shipment in soon. I can't even imagine what some of you that live in the US are going to have to do in order to get one. And i completely realise that this is more of a rant than a question, I just thought I'd share my experiences with you guys.
But here's an actual question: how will you US guys grab a C6906 model?

Might not just be Sony's fault... the carriers would be in on it too. When Rogers announced they wouldn't be carrying the BB Z30, customer pressure forced them to do a u-turn.
I guess maybe carriers are not seeing a high enough consumer interest to subsidize the phone.
*Just my 2 cents
the only place I saw that was listing the C6906 was here, I don't how reliable that site is, maybe somebody here knows more about it or if anybody picked one up from there?!?
If anybody tries, let us know...

I called them a while ago, they are a business located here in the US and they are in fact not carrying the C6906 model, they are carrying the C6903 model. They may have been able to grab the C6906 model recently, but I heavily doubt it. I'll give 'em another ring soon.

Figures. They said they'd have it "around October" when I called 'em a month ago. At this point, I may end up becoming completely frustrated with Sony and just grab a Nexus 5. At this point, it's looking like a viable choice if a few rumours regarding the battery are true.
Just wait, itll come out sooner or later. Later will mean it will be cheaper.
It's coming to carriers in time for the holiday season.
I made the switch to T-Mobile and service is amazing and i just found out i'm about to have unlimited data in like 100 countries no roaming fees.
Check if tmo is good in your area, and switch.
Man, glad I saw this post. Just ordered mine today from WElectronics not really getting all the different model numbers. I'm on ATT and ordered the C6903 so just sent them an email asking to cancel/switch to the C6906 when they have it available. I see it costs more but that's ok. Hopefully they'll allow me to switch and wait.

The only difference in model numbers is which 4g frequencies the phone supports.
Since the USA & Canada use a different set of frequencies to the rest of the world you have your own model number.
02 = 3g only
03 = 4g lte rest of world
06 = 4g usa/canada
The only band that 03 is missing is lte band 17.
Since the radio is part of the qualcomm soc package the usa model will have a slightly different soc.
qualcomm are still short on supplies and the chip used in the z1 is very popular (it's also in the note 3, nexus 5, LG G2, Z Ultra and some lumia's) sony maybe having trouble getting enough usa spec chips to fulfil demand they're already using 2nd rate chips as it is. (2.15GHz instead of 2.25GHz)
As for which market they're focusing on though .. Europe has a much larger Android user base vs ios than in north america, sony is still only a small player in the android market but they have ambition
I'm using the C6903 on T-Mobile and I get LTE or HSPA+ depending on the area I'm in.

No issues for T-Mobile... The really problem is for AT&T versions.. I can't understand why they couldn't add the 700MHz band to the Z1 C6903 model... That would have simplified a lot of these issues...

I got it from a friend who got it from a Canadian Sony Store around the Toronto area. I will confirm that the C6906 that comes directly from Sony and is unlocked does not come with any headphones. Kind of a bummer.

So with HTC's disappointing line-up for the first half of 2011 I decided to take a visit to HTCs World site. I looked at the specs of the new phones and noticed that under Network the bands listed are Europe/Asia - HSPA: 900/AWS/2100 MHz. Does this mean that I could finally buy an unlocked HTC phone and have my US T-mobile 3G aswell? The Flyer has the same Network specs. Out of the 5 new phones that HTC announced the Flyer and Incredible S only have those specs. The Chacha, salsa, and wildfire S, each have the standard 900/2100mhz band for HSPA Europe/Asia.

Can someone confirm my suspicions? If so I can't wait to see what the fall lineup has in-store. Perhaps a dual core phone. I hate the line up US carriers offer.
I belive that you need 1700/2100 Mhz for T-Mobile 3G

Yes 1700 but is that not AWS. If I'm not mistaken AWS is the 1700/2100 spectrum. So since AWS is stated in the specs for the tablet and phone it should work in the US on T-mobiles 3G correct? I've been waiting for htc to release phones in Europe with US 3G for T-mobile forever. I wish my TD2 had had US 3G. The power switch broke sadly and I bought a used Nexus one and T-mobile made me pay the higher rate for data. With an unlocked phone I can sneak by on the lower unlimited rate.
This is a good news for T-Mobile and Wind users as it supports AWS 3G.
Supposedly it is going to be sold by best buy in the US.. So unless that rumor was false it makes sense to have some flavor US 3G network support and TMo makes more sense (ha no pun intended) than ATT. So AWS on the specs must be true.
Unless all these little clues are an inaccurate vast coincidence.

I guess this was wrong then. Not to mention that the incredible s listing at carphone warehouse says "only at carphone warehouse" which would suggest that it is not anywhere else in the uk although they own a stake in carphone warehouse.

I don't care who sells the phone as long as it really does work with T-mobiles AWS bands in the US. If it's true I can't wait to see the Fall lineup of phones. You couldn't be any mote wrong. The original is not a US phone and is GSM based. So it makes sense t-mobile could get it. T-mobile UK has it and so do other GSM carriers in the world. Go to HTC.com/www and check it out for ur self. The tech is GSM. You need to learn a bit more about world carriers and phones and ditch big red. GSM is what the world uses. Don't be surprised when Big Red starts to use sim cards.

Is this Incredible S gonna launch on T-Mobile USA?
UK retailers and mobile providers are already accepting preorders.
I'm not sure if T-Mobile USA will get this because it is already being launched elsewhere. Are they gonna launch this phone late?
Verizon already had it in the US (not S). And I don't see any leaked T-Mobile roadmaps hinting an HTC Incredible S launch.
What do you guys think?
Wish it'll be released by BestBuy in states and canada like NS.

If it does it will be like any other phone that hits Europe and Asia first. US carriers will get it 6-12 months later. So if it does come here it will be later on. The thing I'm concerned about is having it work with Tmo US 3G if I buy it unlocked from Europe since it has the AWS bands. I Love buying unlocked phones because some of them we never see here in the states.

I'm sure it wont be long before we see some reviews coming in to verify its AWSness.
One thing is for sure.. I'm not going to pay 499 euros (690 USD!!) for it.. plus shipping.. I'll be waiting for it to pop up stateside for around 500 USD I would hope...

When it gets here the price unlocked will drop to about that. That's how long it will take for it to get here. It will be that old. Most I am willing to pa for an unlocked phone they don't sell in the states is $550. Sadly I would rather use that money for a radiator to help keep my car cool with all it's new found power.
I'm sure there will be at least two different models, a European model without AWS and a T-mobile US version with AWS. Just like the HD2. The T-mobile US one will be carrier locked too. You know I'm right.

The only version that has been announced is the European/Asian one and it has AWS so this one could also be sold by T-Mobile USA.
However the question would be why bother when they already have the recently released 3.8" myTouch 4G with 4GB of storage, the same CPU and GPU, etc, etc. While the Incredible S seems to be better all round, with the exception of available storage, there hardly seems to be any point in adding such a similar phone to the T-Mobile USA line-up, especially when the myTouch 3G was made specially for them.
They will probably wait until October later this year to introduce a new variant of this phone and some dual core HTC phones.
is it possible to purchase a Nexus 1 that will work on both tmobile and att 3g?
Also will the at&t nexus 1 work on at&t 4g network when it is released?
It can work on either carrier's EDGE network, but the 3G bands are different. So you can buy the At&t 3G one and it'll work 100% on At&t but only have EDGE on T-Mobile. Or you can buy the T-Mobile 3G version and have the opposite.
For 4G, no, the N1 will not work with At&t's 4G network. It doesn't support HSPA+. You can enable HSUPA for faster uploads, so it'll support full 3G.

I don't think that any of the Nexus One's are actually branded, (they both look the same). I have an AT&T one and it does not say AT&T on it anywhere, it just has the right frequencies for AT&T 3G.
AT&T
I read somewhere if it has PB99110 under the battery it supports AT&T 3g. On a side note I haven't seen any AT&T "4G" speed tests that makes me want to go run out and purchase a 4G device.

Unfortunately not. There are 2 different nexus one versions out there, t-mobile and ATT 3g versions. You have to get the right one for each. Both have world 2100 though.
The ATT version stopped being sold long ago, the t-mobile only one still being sold.

I'm not sure what your suggesting because, again, I bought my phone on release day off the Google site....without having a contract to either company.
I got the phone and subscribed to T-Mobile after a few days of having it, I had no prior company before (well I had MetroPCS).
So your basically suggesting that I got completely lucky that I received a T-Mobile version? I'm not exactly sure that's the case. Unless strictly T-Mobile was the only company supporting it on release, which I don't recall to be totally honest.
yes, the t-mobile version was the only one available at launch
the at&t version did not become available until around april or may, just like how the nexus s is only now becoming available for at&t* and sprint while it has been available for t-mobile for quite some time
so you didn't just get a t-mobile version by chance but you are lucky that you weren't planning on using it on at&t because you wouldn't have been able to get 3g
*I know that at&t is not actually selling the nexus s but there is a version with at&t bands in canada

Yes, you were lucky you were on T-Mobile. Because there was only the T-Mobile version at that time.
And you seem to think that a phone working on one type of 3G and not another has something to do with signing contracts. That is not the case. The more bands a phone supports, the harder it is to get good antenna. Basically a phone has to be designed for a small subset of all possible frequencies. That's why there were two versions of the Nexus One. One for the AT&T frequencies, and one for the T-Mobile frequencies.

No, I understand the difference between frequencies and such. I wasn't saying just because there was no contract it works on both...I was just saying that because I thought (which was corrected and it was only released on T-Mobile at first) it was sold for both initially and I never selected one it must have ran both frequencies. Again, that was my incorrect assumption. I didn't realize it was initially released by T-Mobile exclusively.
Does anyone know yet which of these models(Z/ZL) are coming to the US? And maybe a release date?
:fingers-crossed:
Both will probably be coming to the US, but only unlocked through Sony's own retail channels. If I'm right both sets will work with HSPA+ on AT&T and T-Mobile (so no LTE).
Spectre should have more info on this though.

Not really, considering AT&T's transfer caps.
Even if I had LTE available in my area, I'd take an unlocked HSPA+ device over a carrier-mangled locked-down LTE device without any hesitation.
LTE isn't all it is cracked up to be, once you take into account monthly transfer limitations (Since AT&T now throttles "unlimited" users, there is no such thing as "unlimited" any more.), especially if you have access to HSPA+.
LTE was more critical for Verizon users, since CDMA2000 hit a wall without an upgrade path far earlier than UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+ did.
I'm really hoping the rumors that the Z will be sold directly in a timely fashion are going to be true.
The ZL will be available from AT&T as far as I can tell, but that version will suffer from complete lockdown in addition to traditional AT&T firmware mutilation.

Its still up in the air about the Z availability in the US. Hoping its sold directly too.
AT&T isn't picking up the Z or ZL. but both should work on its network.
So till now, AT&T was the only carrier that sold the sony smartphones, with the only exception I think was the playstation phone on verizon.
So the most logical thing for me is Sony to push again through AT&T, because:
1) They already have done business in the past, and have worked out the business side, so it's a safe bet, they might try to work deals with other carriers later through the year to have bigger exposure to the market.
2) It's a flagship phone, Sony will try to get it in the hands of as many people, the comment that it'll be available only full price in retail channels made me laugh The situation is so heated, that they'll have to loose ton of money, just to try to snatch some market, to have a chance to stay a player in this market. They surely want to be in this market, why would they make the Z and show it at CES when no other big name was revealing top models - so they grab the spotlight at CES, and the phone doesn't get lost in all the announcements coming in Feb from the mobile congress.
3) AT&T would love to have another strong horse in the race so they are not dependent only on Apple or Samsung for the best devices they offer. For AT&T the bigger portfolio of manufacturers that want to move devices on their network gives them edge on pricing and other deal terms.
So yeah, I can bet money that in couple of weeks, there will be announcement/leak that AT&T will carry a Z/ZL phone, with LTE of course.
Spectre51 has said it before, AT&T won't be carrying the ZL or Z. The ZL will be sold unlocked through Sony's own retail channels, the Z may be sold unlocked too.
Spectre51 said:
Its still up in the air about the Z availability in the US. Hoping its sold directly too.
AT&T isn't picking up the Z or ZL. but both should work on its network.

He is the source. As far as I know he works at AT&T but I'm not sure.
I'm starting to like this phone. I'm currently on T-Mobile so I probably will only see 3G speeds correct? If so maybe StraightTalk could be an option as my contract expires in June of this year.

I wonder why AT&T would skip out on such a great device. Especially considering what appears to be a long term relationship with Sony. It doesn't make much sense...

They were supposed to pick up the ZL but backed out a month or so ago. They will be picking up the Fall device from Sony and it's supposed to be a flagship phone.
I asked one of the AT&T associates and they confirmed they will be getting zl but not sure about the z

Hmm I would consider buying a factory unlocked ZL then and using it on ATT's network - less bloat.

Just saw Sprint added "Spark" coverage in Austin. http://newsroom.sprint.com/news-rel...up-to-60-mbps-now-available-in-11-markets.htm
Has anyone here connected to it?
I've enabled my Nexus 5 as described here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2530061.
Haven't seen any difference at all. Anyone know how to tell if you are connected?
The coverage map looks pretty damn good in Austin for Spark. http://coverage.sprint.com/IMPACT.jsp?ECID=vanity:coverage
I've been waiting almost 4 years for Sprint 4G. First it was WiMax, then LTE and now SPARC. I'm still stuck in the dark ages with 200 kbs downloads. Maybe by the time I get something better, you guys will be on 6G or 7G technology......but I'm not bitter. :/
also in austin and have tried every combination of band/priority and no difference.
hopefully soon as sprint speeds here are simply a joke

+1 for this. I live in a metro area of about a quarter million people (not huge, but not tiny either), and we most likely won't have Sprint LTE until 2018 because our service is provided by an affiliate that owns the infrastructure and is in no hurry to spend any cash to update their backhaul. Spark would be awesome, but usable 3g would also be nice. My account has 5 lines with different contract expiration dates, so switching to another carrier would be way too expensive to even consider right now (unless T-Mobile had decent coverage here, but that's another discussion entirely).

Wow, same exact situation here. I live in a bustling college town with an area population of about 150,000. Sprint service is provided by a janky little network called nTelos and there is no way of knowing when they will ever step into this century. My little company only has 3 lines, but we face the same dilemma. I went so far as to grab a prepaid Tmobile SIM to experiment with, but it was 1X everywhere I tried. I didn't think it was possible to have worse service than Sprint, but TMobile (at least in this area) is pitiful compared to Sprint.
Update Needed
Just an FYI the Nexus 5 needs an update to make use of spark. Even with all the bands enabled it will only connect to band 25.

Google will release a n5 firmware update this quarter we have been told, you have no control over this.
In the past it seemed Sprint's objective was to be bought out by another carrier so they tried to expand in under served areas. Now there's rumors of Sprint's new owners wanting to buy out T-mobile.
I connected to band 41 on my nexus for about an hour once then I mucked with the settings and never got it back.

That will NEVER happen.
I'm in the Detroit metro with unofficial LTE. I got LTE on my gnex most everywhere. Different story on this device with the tri band. I can force LTE, but then I can't get texts or phone calls. I did however go a about fifteen miles north last week and LTE was working automatically. I am optimistic it should be working here soon also.

Spark in Dallas
I'm in the Dallas area and have enabled all 3 bands for LTE but don't see anything other than band 25 on my N5. I've changed the priority and all that jazz but nothing changes.
Major disappointment as I got this phone for the tri-band service that was supposed to be so awesome.
I really hope the firmware update this quarter is a real thing and I hope they hurry up with it. Tired of the terrible reception and LTE speeds in and around Dallas. My wife has the S4 and she gets better LTE coverage and speeds than my N5.
I'm in Houston and we have spark here.
As for the N5 no go with all three bands enabled.
I did however get atxt from sprint that says "Over the next month the new network will be largely completed in your area making it better than ever! http://sprint.us/network1 Replay S to stop"
Hit that link and no real info.
Also we have found that the update for the N5 will enable the two extra bands and a new APN. Still trying to get the APN from the Flex since it will be rolling out with Spark enabled. I think that is all we will need but don't quote me on that.
The Nexus 5 and LG G2 are going to get their Spark Updates sometime in the future, hopefully soon.
If you really wanted to take advantage of Spark ASAP, you should have gotten a Samsung Galaxy S 4 Mini, Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3, HTC One Max, or the new model of the Samsung Galaxy S 4 (Model number: SPH-L720T).
For the Nexus and LG G2, I read somewhere that LG was having problems with getting Triband LTE to work properly, but the G2 is supposedly getting their update by the end of this month. That should be a good sign that our Spark update is on the way as well, though the Nexus update needs to be pushed by Google.

Well, that stinks. It's a great device marred with a very silly decision. Guess mine is going back.
Yes it's a shame, so we have one t-mobile user with no luck, anyone with att try it yet? Or possibly another person with t mobile, just to repeat the experiment for consistency?
I am willing to switch to AT&T - in fact, would prefer to have my iPhone on one carrier, and my Android on another - but the support response doesn't make me hopeful.

You could bring it to att store, ask them to put a sim in see if it works with their store account, if it works gget the prepaid and switch over. They got a 65 plan that is 50 after u get auto pay. 22 gig high speed unlimited.
Maybe try, if they say no or doesn't work return it. I figure the phone specs are worth the attempt
Screnshot from u tube vid rog 2 with att

VoLTE works on the Chinese rom. I'm guessing next update will fix it in global rom (especially because a lot of folks are complaining about this). Wifi calling doesn't require any special hardware, so I'm guessing that's a possibility down the line if enough folks complain.
Phone nails all the basics (camera, screen, battery, performance), hopefully they add volte and wifi calling in the near future. Very close to perfection!
Email from Asus about Verizon just for fun
Thank you for contacting ASUS Customer Service. My name is Zavion S. I hope all is well. I am seeing here that you have an inquiry about the ROG Phone II supporting the Verizon network. I am more than happy to assist you in resolving this matter. The speculation of the ROG Phone II supporting the Verizon network is regrettably false as the final product will be unable to support it. It is compatible with GSM Networks including AT&T, T-Mobile, Straight Talk, Walmart Family Mobile, MetroPCS, Simple Mobile, Brightspot, Net10, h20 Wireless, and Cricket Wireless. I do apologize for any inconveniences cause and hope you have a wonderful day!

So barring any miracles or super secret work arounds, I'm out and back to square one. The Razer 2 has also been on my mind, but mostly because of the price ($350 at Best Buy) and it's still an LCD screen. If only LG would release something like the V20, but with updated specs. I'd take that even over the ROG II.

I would avoid the Razer cause only 845 processor and no aptx Bluetooth codex and camera is just so so. U less ur phone is like 6 years old better to wait for something with 855 plus processor with Android 10 and 11 proofing it

The LCD on the Razer is pretty darned good. I the phone overall is pretty solid. The drawbacks for me are mic when using speakerphone is wonky (introduced with MR0 update) and no aptX or LDAC. I use speakerphone a lot and most of my audio stuff is aptX HD or LDAC so gonna sell the Razer Phone 2 and evidently keep looking.
One plus 7t released, maybe you should get that loos pretty awesome no crappy pop up camera,, 855 plus t mobile will be selling it, 90hz display little less battery but slimmer I'm gonna prob get the McLaren edition the one that is still rumored lol
Just talked to support again. They reiterated no go for VoLTE and VoWifi on American carriers. Zip. Shame, as the phone is so good otherwise. What a helluva thing for them to disable.

It's like having a Ferrari, opening the gas tank for a fill up and finding a straw coming out. You pump gas and 2 percent goes in the rest falls to your feet,
. Yeah it will work but how many attempts, how far will you get how many disconnects. Tell them to remove the f ing straw haha

It's technically the carriers that disable it. It works fine on carriers in other countries using the same exact ROM image. The US carriers require payment to enable/test/certify those features and North American sales volume likely doesn't justify it for Asus' North American division.

I used to work with carriers more than a decade ago. I had hoped this attitude would change. It's easy enough to isolate and block a rogue device - the concern back then. Also still baffling why Asus would disable - why not enable, and if the carrier lets it by, that's on the carrier, not Asus.

I tried this. Google Voice let's you choose between using your phone app to make calls or using a data connection. The data connection option sounds better.
This is incorrect !!! ATT is also going to HD Audio dio & VoLTE within the year - got f' email saying my ROG II (only 3 months old) will no longer be supported. I now have a "$1000 paperweight" - ASUS doesn't care, I have tried and now trying to get straight answer out of ATT.
