Ladies & gentleman,
you might know the awesome ROM Hybrid 5.0?!
I flashed it and it works great, well done.
Unfortunately there are two things i would like to ask. (i would have asked in the dev, but haven't the 10 necessary posts...)
1. Swype is great and if you are used to use it you don't want to miss it. There is no possibility to set up german language for using swype. The whole ROM is german, but swype isn't.
--> is there any possibility to install a german pack or sth. like this?
2. The phonebook data is still saved with Kies (.spb data). Usually i would connect to Kies and save the contacts on the phone, but my pc doesn't want to connect to the phone. Updating the driver was successfull, but doesn't solve the problem.
--> is there any possibility to get the data to the phone?
Thanks a lot for your help
Hi there,
for your first problem you have to install swype's german pack but I'm sorry to tell you that there is no such a thing yet, maybe with their new version beta 3.5, who knows!
but I think I have a solution for you, try Touch Pal Keyboard, it has swype capabilities rivaling that of swype and much much more options that it makes you addicted to it!
your second problem -looooooool- if you wanted to be able to use samsung kies and AllShare and kies air and all that nice programms from samsung, you shouldn't have rooted your phone and installed Hybrid 5, shouldv'e sstayed on stock rom which is in my opinion the best rom for SGS (Reliable, Fast and NO POWER Drain Problems).
god luck anyways.
Oh by the way, you should check this thread for your first question.

and copy you cantacts to the phone and let the contacts application import them
Hey everyone,
Just wanted to learn about your experience with the OB Kernel + ROM GB Mods.
My main interests are OC for games and clean, no useless apps ROMs for extended battery life and better performance.
I am also seeking out ROMs that won't bug the Wi-Fi or any other basic functionality of the device.
I was thinking CM7 or maybe NOVA 8. But I'm a noob so i want to hear some of the more experimented users' opinions.
Thanks in advance.
If you need a stable rom, please use nova 8 (froyo)
CM is built from AOSP and has many differences with stock roms. Sure it has more bugs than Nova, another advantage from CM is themes and expanded system settings.
Try it yourself, as long you have clockworkmod recovery you're freely to test CM and Nova which one that suits you.

Thanks for the quick reply @lesp4ul.
1.) When the official GB update from LG comes out I must not update if I install NOVA 8 ?
2.) Themes and expanded settings that you say come with CM are not available on NOVA 8 ?
Off-topic: Love your signature pic. Made myself one too, whenever I'll be able to add it to my signature I will. Can't edit my signature now, for reasons i do not fully grasp.

1. Don't ask for ETA, i don't know dude. Also don't start a thread about it. When the update comes you can upgrade it.
2. Because CM7 is a custom gingerbread build by Team Cyanogen, not based from stock rom. So they can add new features that ordinary rom doesn't have. Try it, nightly #20 and Nova kernel 11c. If you don't like it just flash Nova Rom 8 again.

Cool beans. Thanks a lot Also, I think you misunderstood me there, I wasn't asking WHEN the update will be here, just IF I can upgrade to it if I have another ROM/Kernel on my OB.

Aye, AFAIK if you wanna upgrade to GB (when it's available of course),and you have flashed custom ROM, you should downgrade it to the stock/official so then you can get a notif from the LG Updater if the GB is available

Basically, If i put the NOVA 8 on my phone now, whenever the GB update will be available i'll have to restore the stock 2.2 Froyo I have on it now, right ?

-I'll try both NOVA 8 & CM7 nightly #20 w/ nova kernel 11c
-see which one I like best
-that's 'bout it
All good ?
Oh sorry, btw you're good to go. Backup your contacts and data first.

Hey, another question about the replacement of ROMs. Is it wise to back-up my phone using Titanium so that more data than just the contacts and messages are saved ?
What I'm asking here is: does Titanium also back-up settings and preferences in apps ? Or the installed apps ? I have never used it before and can't really figure this one out by their description on the market...

titanium backs up EVERYTHING. ur apps (stock+installed and their progress), settings and customizations. to sum it up, titanium backup will backup every single bit of ur phone as an image. hope i helped
But i not recommended you to use titanium backup, especially you are migrating to a different rom like CM7, titanium will mess up your OS. use appmonster to backup your apps to sdcard and manually export your contacts to sdcard, also you can backup your sms with go sms.
I suggest you to use nandroid backup if you wanna revert to your original state.

Back-Up queries.........
A very good thread.....
I have installed over hundreds apps/games........ and I have flashed my ROMs over 20 times and still want to do it..he..he.. (everytime, I have to re-install every single app/game one by one.. tediously!?).
Please advise which is the best tool (Titanium back up/Nandroid.....) that after flashing rom (from Nova to CM7, from Nova to Stock......) I can restored the installed apps/games and that remain the configed of these apps/game...
"I suggest you to use nandroid backup if you wanna revert to your original state.": is this means it also revert the OS to original (ie.: if I up from NOVA 8 to CM7, after restore, it will go back to NOVA 8)?
"use appmonster to backup your apps to sdcard and manually export your contacts to sdcard, also you can backup your sms with go sms." Do I need to Restore every single apps/games after that or only 01 click to restore everything?
Great thanks.

Yeap nandroid is like creating system image, if you ever used norton ghost it's somekind like that. It backups everything from the rom.
Appmonster automatically backup every installed apps. It can do batch install also.

Never used Norton Ghost. I've used Drive Image XML though which does the same thing, only better. I'm an IT tech
So basically, I'll just have to use:
- nandroid for creating a back-up to restore the phone to its original state, before flashing and upgrading;
- go sms for the SMSes;
- appmonster for back-uping the apps to the SD;
- manual (my own hands ) for exporting the contacts to the SD card.
Thanks for the tip !
Question: Couldn't the back-up of SMSes and contacts be done through the PC Suite ? Or will it mess up something because it won't recognize the phone anymore after flashing and replacing the stock ROM ?
Question #2: @lesp4paul - What do you mean by "titanium back-up will mes up your OS" ?

CM7 does't recognize PCSuite. But can be done in stock ROM, handy if you plan upgrading to stock ROM (Gingerbread) in the coming days.

I don't even see the point in upgrading to the GB coming up in a few days...
I could just flash the 2.2 NOVA 8 now, then when that ICS ROM comes to XDA I'll upgrade to that.
LE: Sorry if this is becoming annoying, but will THIS KERNEL work with THIS ROM ?
Because in the Kernel thread, it says that it mustn't be flashed on NOVA... I am very confused :-??

Hello, I am happily running Cyanvivo 10.1 (thanks developers!). I know there is an update due out soon, and this was my first time installing a custom rom. My question is, knowing that OTA isn't supported, when the update comes out will have have to wipe and re-flash, loosing everything, or is there an easier process saving my data? I looked around for the answer some but have not found it as of yet. Thanks!

The way I do it, I use SMS Backup&Restore and Titanium Backup. When I finish saving all my files, reboot into recovery, wipe everything but the SD card, and flash the ROM. When it boots up and setup is finished, then I just restore everything back using the apps listed previously.
Of course you can just dirty-flash if you're lazy but don't expect help if you run into problems. The only place where a dirty-flash should not be done is if:
1. You're switching ROM (ex. you are going from CyanVivo10.1 to SVHD v1.7.1)
2. It's the same ROM but it has a different base.

yes it is. I wrote this post before I went to the development to see PACman
I recommend PACman ROM as well due to its immense number of features (CM+AOKP+AOSPA)(CyanogenMod, Android Open Kang Project, Parnaoid Android).
That is if you don't mind the occasional bug here and there.
I own a Samsung Ace GT-S5830, it is currently running Cyanogenmod 7. CyanogenMod-7-20130301-NIGHTLY-cooper I did this a few months ago and I would like to flash it back to Android. As this was done a while back I have lost all of my bookmarks. Could someone please point me to some instructions to do this.

Wrong section mate! There is a great Q&A Thread!
...
1. You should read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768181
2. Backup your current rom using CWM (do it via recovery)
3. Use Titanium Backup to save your bookmarks, or the data files from which ever app (even you can save de apk)... if you use Titanium Backup then when you restore the data you might face troubles in different roms (4.2.2 / 4.3).
4. To backup all your contacts use contacts app to export all of them to your sd
Now you are ready to flash a fresh stock or another custom rom

Do you feel the wi-fi slow compared with others cyanogenmod roms or the stock rom?
I used the nightlys of january, february and march (all) and my phone have slow wi-fi
CM7 ROMs are not totally bug-free. There have been GPS issues with several ROMs in the past. Also I till the date have never been able to use the phone on CM7 as a modem for computer as the modem (phone) doesn't respond. Also minute but Wi-Fi issues that prevailed previously seem to be sorted out eventually but expect no optimization.
If you want speed & stability with all the working features, use the stock based ROMs.

Hi there,
I recently installed a custom Rom (Ultimate N7000 LT4 JB 4.1.2 v6 - deoxed) for my Note's father and after installing all his apps I found that some modules or rom apps are not "translatable". That is, even though I select my preferred language from Settings, some modules are still in English. I guess these apk originally belong to a non-international rom and were ported to that ROM, so no matter what language you choose, only English is available in these apk/modules (Phone, Messaging and Mobile Network).
I was wondering, if I can just replace these 2 files "SecMms.apk" and "SecPhone.apk" from another 4.1.2 international custom rom and place them in my N7000's system folder...would it work? I'm not an experienced user and I'd like to know mor about ths before trying and -perhaps- messing it all up.
Otherwise I might have to install another custom ROM....but I'm just a bit short of time to do that all over again with all configurations, apps and other optimizations I did.
Has anybody ever done something similar?
Any comment/help will be highly appreciated.
Cheers!
No-one?...
