Exactly, Android enthusiasts should run, not walk, away from Verizon. They're the most expensive and least friendly (to the dev community) of all carriers.

Oh, ok then, thanks. I was considering getting the DE today, but I think I'll wait a little bit to see if T-Mobile gets customization any time soon. I don't really like the white back, really worried it would get disgusting after a while, and my Sprint contract goes through next month anyway.

Will probably get the GSM DE and if they release moto maker to the other carriers within 30 days I'll probably return it for a moto maker .
Anyone know if there are any radio differences between the GSM DE and T-mobile versions?

Unfortunately the only rumors I've heard have said November for Moto Maker on other carriers, so that would be more than 30 days. That might be a good idea for me when my contract is up next month though.

i dont think they have even started the process for a soak test afaik
That is what I figured, good ole slow verizon. Can you pull the APK from another carrier for the camera? Would that work?

From what i hear, apk won't work. Will have to wait for the VZW OTA.
I called to complain about some issues with my X and asked about the update and they have the update version as the current version for the phone, but if you buy one, you still have to wait for the update. They say that Motorola is the one holding the update due to a staged rollout depending on when you bought the phone. Not sure i believe that.
Yea... i dont have a link handy but one of the android sites has a quote from Motorola basically saying it's Verizon's fault now, not theirs.

Lol yes. Not surprised but still pissed. I guess VZW has to make sure all the bloat is in tact and exploits are "gone" before they release. Siiiigh.

On average how far behind is Verizon usually compared to other carriers? Like not exaggerating, literally multiple months or just a few weeks to a month?

Usually months 2-4. Look how far after a new device is released on all carriers and then verizon gets it 4 months later.

That's ridiculous. They better watch out once the other carriers get their LTE coverage out to full capacity. Verizon might be on to 5G or LTE-A but there will be a lot of content people getting newer phones and faster updates on the other carriers even if original LTE is "old".
Verizon isn't always that far behind with updates but with the Moto X update I will admit this is getting a bit ridiculous.
remember that verizon also is prob going to patch the camera for X/Ultra/Maxx/Mini at the same time... i work for an indirect verizon retailer and have a good relationship with 2 motorola reps. the patch is coming as far as they have told me.. just waiting for verizon to finalize on all four devices. TMo/ATT/Sprint have one device.. Verizon has 4 LOL. Patience grasshoppers.. patience.
If thats the case then I love that they are holding up 1 phone that could have 2 core issues resolved just so they can update 4 devices at once......
As question says:
Wil there be an - official- update to Android 5 for our beloved Moto X (in my case unlocked ATT)?
Typically, we should get the update right after the moto x+1 gets it
Sent from my Moto X
Moto has said the E will get it. Our phone us not even a year old yet and they have also promised major updates for 2 years.
As I recall, 18 months of official update support is the (official? empirical?) Android way of thinking, isn't it?
Motorola Germany posted on their Facebook page that Moto X and Moto G will both receive the "Android 5". Actually the Moto X is very well capable of receiving it.
I also plan to port the Stock AOSP to this device and the Moto G with my old team.
Anyone plan to port Android L from the Nexus 5? Since that is the only way will we get it for now

So I am running the 2013 X, unlocked bootloader with xposed and can tether via a the xposed module. Is there a way to tether on the new 2014 Moto X on Verizon? NOT the Pure Edition, im talking the 'regular' Moto X (Verizon.) I am going to order the new on on Monday but this is really the only reason its holding me back. I don't want to root or anything like that, but I rooted my 2013 just to get tether. I know Lollipop will make it difficult, but I know the community does not like to be told NO!
Anyone have anything working with Lollipop on non pure edition? Would love to hear, thanks.

AT&T has a variant that is not Pure Edition, and so does US Cellular. USCC's has unlockable bootloader. Finally some benefits for sticking with US Cellular! (even though XDA continues to refuse to acknowledge our existence).

Grandfathered into an Unlimited plan from nearly 10 years ago - the National Guard would need to take this plan with a big goddamn army if I am going to dump this.
It is almost a year since I got my N6 from Verizon. I would want to upgrade by December. Are the alleged Nexuses from HTC worth it?
Your question is a bit premature. Until the upcoming Nexus phones are released, there's no way to know whether they will be "worth" it or not.

Will VZW sell a Huawei phone and/or allow it on their network? I got burned last year with a phone from Moto, that at that time, could not activate.
Considering how the current Nexus phones are only available in the Google store, VZW should allow it.

Never hurts to plan ahead and get some advice, here. Maybe they will be announced at MWC?
I would relax a bit guys. We have almost 6 MO the before the next nexus comes out.
I wouldn't be surprised if HTC does build it. Huawei on the other hand. Not very likely as the 6p was one of the worst selling nexus devices and most people refused to by it just because of who made it.

Either one. Due to the nature of Verizons network any AOSP device is gonna have trouble. Also Google will not make the same mistake of 2 nexus devices.
Google could have learned its session, but we will see. Verizon may sell none of them but allow them on their network, to eventually sell one of them. Did Verizon sl the 5X?

To be honest I am not sure. Verizon is not here.
Their biggest issue is the open source licensing. Alot of the telephone stuff for working on CDMA is closed sourced so it is hard to make it open source.

While this is true, the basics are that the stuff to run the phone operations on CDMA network are all closed sourced. So you cant really release a device that is supposed to be completely open source running a CDMA network. Thats why there are always issues with nexus devices and CDMA networks. You see the same thing with sprint the last few CDMA networks in the world as most use the updated GSM network.
