HTC One Hard Brick; No root? - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was using my HTC One yesterday recording a lecture when it overheated and refused to turn on any longer. I've tried charging it with different cables and different outlets (USB in computer included) and the only recognition I get is that it shows qhsusb_dload in the device manager. I don't what to do to fix this; one of my friends stumbled upon (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2226445), but if it works, I have no idea how to do anything since I didn't root my phone. Anyone have any tips?
EDIT: A bit more information: it's a locked HTC One on Rogers Network in Canada.

I'd say get a replacement from your carrier.. They should do it for free. If they don't, send it to htc for repairs.

Sadly that isn't possible.. your phone is properly hard bricked, so if you want any of your data back, you'll have to have someone with a jtag box unbrick it for you.. That will cost you cash, and that defeats the whole purpose of getting a replacement phone..

[Q] replacing motherboard (will I need to re-root?)

my sprint htc hero needs a new motherboard only because the usb is completely damaged from the outside only. It is rooted. Once the new motherboard is in, will I still have root? what should I expect when I turn the phone on for the first time?

You can replace a motherboard but can't handle root?
replacing the motherbord shouldnt affect the actual software so yes im pretty sure you will still be rooted.
to be honest though i would just get a new phone because i know motheboards arnt cheap.
well, I did get a new phone a while ago. got the evo 4g. but this hero just keeps bugging me, so kind of more for fun, I want to give this a go. I already ordered the motherboard on ebay. 30 bucks plus shipping. I saw a video on youtube and replacing it looks fairly simple. It is going to take a couple of weeks for it to get here, but will post back and let you know how it turns out.

No, you will need to root again. The android software is stored of the motherboard. So putting in a new one will be like getting a new phone, minus new parts on the outside.
If the motherboard you bought is used, then whatever the previous user had on it, then that's what you would find. Hope this helps.

ha proved me wrong lol. either way rooting shouldnt be a problem just z4 that bad boy and itll be up and running in no time
ah, that makes sense now. well it is a new motherboard. found two sellers on ebay both of which have a small supply for 30 bucks each. okay so I start over once I have it. many thanks
I know it has been a while, but just to finalize, got this hero working like a charm. changing the mother board was the easy part. the trick was finding the right sprint store that would get msl code and make everything match up between the new mother board and the phone. they have to actually change codes in their data base or you will not get service.
Damn, you should have asked -- I have a couple extra heroes from friends who move on.
wow, thanks. You know it was one of those things that you brake and get some redemption when you fix it.

Hope for a Bricked Vivid ?? { Discussions of Possible Solutions }

Hello Guys,
I recently PICKED up a DEAD VIVID from a fellow XDA'r for a really cheap price hoping I can UNBRICK it and use it
As I have understood , This phone was bricked during the ICS update Process. Looks like the Original Owner did not know what he was doing LOL,
The phone should be here in a WEEK
Can anypone shed any light on how this can be fixed and what are the possible options ?
JTAG ??? HTC service
I live in INDIA BTW
bump....
Hope I wasn't a Idiot to buy a bricked VIVID ??
I don't think any solution has been found so far. If you hadn't already known, our vivid section is really small with not a ton of development going on. The people that couldn't follow directions were sort of left in the dust, and I don't know of anyone working on a fix for the bricks.

I assume he's talking about the worst kind we've seen. Like the noob who pissed off PG and made him leave.

If it powers on and you are able to go to HBoot it can be saved.

If you can get into Qualcomm dload mode, you should still have a shot at fixing it. If it literally can't get into dload mode, does not boot into fastboot, or any other possible method of pushing files to the phone, then yes, it is bricked. You will have to find a way to use JTAG or send it to an HTC service center.
Thank you all !!!!! hoping for RIFF box to work
I started a similar thread.....I also have a bricked Vivid.....I have been able to get mine to be recognized by QPST on com6 in phone download mode.....the question is, what do I do now? QPST seems to be pretty straight forward, but I have no idea where to find the necessary files to flash the phone. Any ideas?

..
I haven't been able to find any .hex files for our device. Tried opening the various .img files extracted from the PH39IMG.zip in a hex editor and saving them as .hex files but QPST returns an error. I don't have any experience in hex editing, but I know I can't brick the phone any worse. My g/f has went back to an HTC Inspire so I am going to keep this hope alive as a side project.

Whether this guy who bricked his phone was a NOOB, isnt really an issue now is it? Nor if he is one of the ones whom ticked off PG.. I bricked my Vivid, and 1) I'm not a NOOB. 2) I followed Directions to the letter ... did everything right and it still bricked.. but i had insurance through BestBuy , sent it in and got a new phone 2 days later.. re-tried the same steps i did before which bricked my phone, and it went through without a hitch... We arent here to judge people nor start up another thread which can potentially lead to another mass exodus from XDA
Well I just got off the phone with HTC....seems I was wrong about their warranty policy. Even though I was not the ORIGINAL purchaser the PHONE is still under warranty. I will be shipping it back to HTC first thing in the AM.

Wow, I didn't even know that. All you have to do is send back the phone, no receipt, no nothing?
I called HTC and gave them my contact info and all the info about the phone....IMEI#, serial #, and part #.....told them what the problem was....and they emailed me the info about sending the phone in...worst case is the problem won't be covered under warranty, in which case I will have to pay $135 to have it fixed. Hopefully it will be covered under warranty though....
Hi I seen your problem to me step and follow these steps to get here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20807914&postcount=2 download from here http://www.filefactory.com/f/002b74e0f4775869/ version for AT & T is this RUU_HOLIDAY_ICS_35_S_CINGULAR_3.26.502.52 install it from your computer and running.

yeah i've sent them many phones, a couple of hd2, touch pro, touch pro2
can't remember what else but yeah if ur not original owner from a store they go by production date of the phone, i've been lucky that i always got them fixed for free, only once they said that said that the damage to my screen was due to physical damage and didn't fix it, and they charged me $40 (they call it a triage fee) other than that, i had to pay to ship it to them but it's worth the $5 using usps priority mail, they ship back at their cost with a nice box and HTC lint free cloth lol
You need the H-BOOT

Should i trade?

I already posted this in the nexus forum. I just want to get an opinion from both sides...
I currently have the HTC One m7 on tmobile with a completely blown speaker on the top so both external sound and call sounds are ruined. I unlocked the boot loader and actually dropped it one time so there is a tiny bit of damage on the bezel, so i assume neither t mobile or htc will honor any kind of warranty. I put it up on craigslist and a guy is offering to trade me for a mint condition nexus 4 with a few cases. Should i do it?
Did you even talk to T-Mobile or HTC ?

I have had horrible luck in the past on warrenty claims with t mobile, it made me not even want to call them. I sent htc an email and they basically said they cant help me, wouldn't even say if they could repair if i paid for it. No shops around want to touch the phone, and the cant even obtain parts. Oh and the best part is that i cant even call them with a blown speaker

I have had AT&T honor warranty even with a Relocked bootloader. If the unit is with in one year...so it still has manufacturers warranty. I dropped but always had a Trident or Otter box case so no visible damage. If you can restore the stock recovery, relock, etc...you can try HTC or T Mobile. I also searched the forums and found a way to make the screen show Locked Vs Relocked. You will have to search that. Hate to see you lose the One without trying first..then if they wont help you..do the deal as a Nexus 4 is not up to the Specs ofnthe ONE but it is Free of carrier b.s., right ? i assume it is the unit you buy from Google directly? I purposely went with the HTC ONE Developer Edition so I would have unlocked bootloader without any Carrier Restrictions...

Agree, flash back to stock recovery, rom, relock...wipe sd card with any superUser (root) files and send it in, many have had warranty honored this way...it just depends what is broken or defective...the only issue is the physical damage that they could claim caused the speaker damage..? Don't know till ya try...
It really bad luck. But a blown speaker should be covered. I'd keep hassling them. With the phone so new, I wouldn't give up.

Yeah the only problem with that is that i cant find the stock recovery for the tmobile version. If i could get the recovery back and remove tampered from fastboot, i would totally be comfortable taking it in.

HTC ONE + MHL addapter

Hi all,
This is a stab in the dark for some help, I got a HTC ONE some time ago and think its the best phone I have ever seen, but I have never used it and it has stayed in its box as it does not work with my setup.
I have an appradio head unit for the car and I use arliberator app plus a mhl adapter to mirror my phone onto the screen in my car, at the moment I use the S4 and have also used the S3 with no issues what so ever. I tried to use the HTC but it just wont work, well it will work great as long as I dont put my vodafone sim card in the HTC, as soon as I put the sim card in I get snow issues. By snow I mean a fuzzy screen not that it starts snowing!
I have tried various roms but all the same result, I have been on the arliberator forum and I seem to be the only one having this issue, I did spend atleast £200 on various different MHL adapters and even got the HTC Media link, the media link worked but does not mirror the phone screen.
Any suggestions before I reluctantly put the HTC on ebay?

Sounds like defective hardware, particularly if you can't find other reports of this issue online. Try returning the phone or having it serviced.

HTC ONE died for no apparent reason

My HTC One died on Saturday for no apparent reason whatsoever, it was a T-mobile HTC one with the RUU conversion to GPE. I was watching Netflix it on saturday noon and the battery was about 50% and the phone restarted for no reason or error.
Later that day around 5pm I wanted to use the phone and it would not turn on, I thought that the battery could be dead so I set it to charge, but the LED would not turn on on the charger or computer, so I figured the battery was probably completely drained. I let it charge all night and next morning the LED still was not on, so I tried to boot the phone and nothing, I used power + volume down, and not even the bootloader would come up. I tried ADB and nothing.
After reading some info online and XDA I noticed that a lot of people are experiencing the same issue, would this be related to unlocking and rooting the GPE RUU?
Similar Issues:

I just discovered that the phone is detected under my windows machine as: Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008
Will I have to send it to HTC or is there a way to bring it back from dead?

Im sorry to tell you this, but Qualcomm HS-USB is USUALLY a sign of a hard brick. In other words, you cannot get the phone back to life.
The only possible way of recovery of this device is to send it to HTC. They will replace the motherboard, which costs a BOMB. If im not mistaken, its about $200.
Ideally, you should avoid RUU conversion unless ur 100% sure about what you're doing. Flashing ARHD 6.1 or SinLess would have been a much wiser thing to do IMO

The thing that I don't understand is why the phone got bricked after a week of doing the RUU conversion? ( I have done RUU conversions before on a different HTC One and this one two months ago)

I wish they had the GPE when I bought mine 9 months ago. A friend will sell me his HTC one AT&T black edition for $250, would that be a better option to Flash or should I forget about it and get a Nexus 5?

Thank you for the link, looks like I'm not the only one with the issue, but I tried all the solutions and still won't boot up or the LED will come up.
T-mobile is sending me a replacement, the bad news is that even thought I really like the phone I will be selling the replacement and moving to the nexus 5 as tmobile takes forever to release updates.
