[Q] Problems unlocking Galaxy Note 3 - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just purchased a Galaxy Note 3 (SM-N900A), full-price, off-contract, from AT&T Wireless. I used an existing GoPhone (prepaid) account/phone number to activate the phone. The phone works (voice calls) with the AT&T SIM. However, I want to use the phone/device on aioWireless. I have a microSIM for aio. I have purchased an unlock code and followed the unlock instructions. I received a "Successful unlock" message after entering the 8 digit network code. However, I cannot make phone calls (or use the data plan) when the aioWireless SIM is installed. When dialing a number with the aio SIM, I get a recorded message that the service has been deactivated, and to contact AT&T.
When I try to verify whether the phone has truly been unlocked by typing *#SIMLOCK# nothing happens. If I then push the CALL button, I then get the message: Connection problem or invalid MMI code.
Any clues what is going on?

Do you maybe have to use different APN settings for the two networks?

I have no idea.

I would look up the APN settings for AIO and input those (Settings>Connections>More networks>Mobile networks>Access Point Names)
You could always just call AIO customer service or walk into a store and they should be able to help you out.

I thought APN is just for data and has nothing to do with his inability to place calls! especially that he is getting" service deactivated"
I would check the AIO account if its working first.

APN is indeed simply meant for DATA and MMS
Your phone is functional with TEXT message and CALL's WITHOUT even a single APN setting set up
The main problem here is compatibility. OR the SIM card
SOMETIMES you have to leave the sim card inside your phone for at least 5- 10 minutes
At one time it took me 20 minutes for a sim card to be recognized, then I got 4G
It depends on the network.
But if all fails, just call your new network and try to get a new sim card
As long as your phone is fully compatible, and you know it, there are ways around it.
Hope this helped!:good:
The *#SIMLOCK# and various variants of it no longer works starting from the GALAXY S3 and Above (Not even all S2's accept this code)

Imagio sim card master confusion....

I called VZW and got my unlock code, and I have unlocked it so that I can use another Sims, but while the other Sims is on the phone, or even without a Sims card I can still make phone calls. This is a problem as I unlocked the phone so that I could use Sims on India, where I'm traveling in 2 days...tips?
A call to VZW clarified my questions. While on CDMA inside USA the phone does not use the SIM card, with a T-Mobile Sims card on the phone, I switch to GSM and the phone inmedially registered the T-Mobile card and new number. If I happend to be abroad, and I have my Verizon/Vodaphone Sims inside, the CDMA network will then use the Sim to register on the network.

Unlock?
So how does Verizon give out this unlock code? I have an Imagio but I whodinied it and have it on metroPCS. I would like to unlock the phone to use AT&T or T-Mobile.
Call global support and tell them you will be going overseas. They give you the 8 digit unlock code, you enter it. Poof. I can use my neighboor's AT&T SIM and be her .
You do not need the SIM in the US to make calls on Verizon.

Even if I don't have the Imagio activated with Verizon? Is the password different for each phone? How do you enter this password? You dial it in?

Yes they are all different, they generate the code from your IMEI ( kind of like a cars VIN number ). *#06# will give you the IMEI.
Just tell them you are going abroad and not using Vodafone and that's it. 800-711-8300 Option 2.
IMEI is under Start/Settings/System/Device Information/ Version Tab
You enter the 8 digit code under
Start/Settings/Personal/Security
Good Luck!
They denied it, they said I needed to have the $29.99 plan plus the $39.99 unlimited data plan. WTH???
Any other alternative?

*#06# didn't do anything, even tried the "TALK" afterwards, nothing, nada.
Any other trick in getting the IMEI?
Who did you buy it from, who is your carrier? You probably should call your carrier if Verizon won't help you.

I figured it out, had to switch to GSM mode before dialing the *#06#
Im boricua also, and have the Imagio on metroPCS, trying to get GSM working when I go to PR I can call out with same phone.
You *DO* have to have a qualifying Verizon account. I asked and the minimum account you need is the $29.99 and you also need the $39.99 unlimited data plan addon. Too much IMHO. If you have the Imagio on another network (like I do) then here is a service which is in our pocket's reach...I submitted my IMEI and will post results as soon as I get my unlock code.

Hey would you please help me whodini my hTC Imagio to cricket as well?
PLEASE
LOL! Whodini is a metroPCS flashing tool, not sure if Cricket uses the same software. Try calling Cricket to see if they will add the MEID of the phone to their network or if you actually have to take it in to one of their stores to have it done. I can guide you how to provision it once the MEID is on their netowrk...
I am looking for the data settings for T-mobile. Can anyone help?
While I was abroad in India, I used my company's T-Mobile Sims card, from which I send SMS and also used voice but no internet as I had my data OFF, what I did not know was that they still charged my Verizon account 16 bucks of data fees. Apparently since the phone is global it still was recognized on the India network as it was trying to connect to their network, in other words, just the fact that the phone was trying to connect to their antennas counted as data transfer!!! I rather pay for unlimited international data plan next time I'm abroad and it would have being the same amount of money...sucky

SIM Unlock Code Screen Missing

Hi All,
I apologize in advance if that has been posted and responded to, but my searches have been unfruitful. My boss has the Motorola Droid 3, stock rom, NOT rooted on the Verizon network (in NYC). He will be traveling abroad to the mid-east and contacted VZW Global Services and they provided him with the SIM Unlock code.
I then proceeded to insert my AT&T SIM card into his phone and booted it up - in anticipation of the SIM Unlock Code screen so that when he gets to his destination country, all he'll have to do is insert the SIM card which he will purchase there.
Unfortunately, no such screen appeared. I was able to access the phone's other functions and was even able to go into Settings>Wireless Settings and switched the device to GSM/UMTS only (from the default 'Global' setting). Still, nothing occurred. I then forced it to search for a network (even though automatically connect was checked) and believe it or not, midway through its search, the phone completely rebooted on its own. I thought that maybe NOW, when the phone finishes loading, that it will ask me for the SIM Unlock Code. Well, it didn't. The phone just booted up normally and indicated that there was no service (bars with the red circle and slash through it).
We called Global Services back and they claimed that we will not see a SIM Unlock code for any US-Domestic carrier SIM cards (sounds fishy to me) and the SIM Unlock Code screen will appear ONLY when a Foreign/Non-US Carrier SIM Card is placed in the phone. My suspicion is that the Global Services rep doesn't know the difference b/t his a** and his elbow and was just saying anything that seemed plausible to get me off the phone. It would be VERY BAD if my boss travels to his destination and operates on the assumption that this will work once he inserts a foreign SIM card and for it not to work at all.
Any thoughts/insights into this would be VERY much appreciated and if this topic was already discussed on another thread, I would very much appreciate the link to that thread.
I have seen similar topics on other phone model threads, but none of the instructions in each of those respective threads had a solution that seemed applicable to this specific problem.
Many MANY thanks in advance!

You should most certainly see an unlock screen with a US based sim card. I used an old deactivated T-Mobile Sim card to get my unlock code prompt. try going to the phone dialer and enter *#*#4636#*#* - give it a sec and a menu will come up. In the menu scroll down a bit and you'll see a network selection bar. Tap the bar and select GSM Auto (PRL). You should immediately get a popup or perhapse after you back out of it. If not, scan for networks again. If it still gives you problems - PM me and we'll get it figured out.
network SIM unlock screen missing for T-Mobile US
Folks,
I am experiencing a similar issue as the original poster. No matter what I do, I can not get the Droid global (stock rom, v2.3.3) to attach to the T-Mobile network. If I follow the instructions"
*#*#4636#*#* - give it a sec and a menu will come up. In the menu scroll down a bit and you'll see a network selection bar. Tap the bar and select GSM Auto (PRL) ".
I see the screen momentarily flash the t-mobile network, then switch back to indicating that the network type is CMDA-1xrtt. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
BTW this sim works fine in a BB Bold 9000. Also it is just a simple voice/messaging sim - no data plan.
Never mind - after more research, seems I have a phone with the US carriers locked out. - off to see if I can update it

I had the same issue. The unlock code was already put in. Though this may be, there is more you need to do to have it working on US carriers like AT&T.

I c, U have to use Non-US SIM CARD. otherwise U have to unlock the US radio first. but if U having trouble to pop the SIM Network Unlock Code screen, just put non-US SIM and set the mobile network from global to gsm/umts. these also apply to those whose troubled with subsidy lock, so they can input the code.
Worked for me with tmobile or att sim card in the phone. You have to backup rename the build.prop file in the system(Rename the old build.prop to build.bak) put the new build.prob file in the system, restart the phone and wa-la, it will ask you for an unlock code. Enter it give it 15 or so sec reboot the phone, select GSM/UMTS and wait 30sec to 2mins you will receive a signal.

[Q] ATT CellUnlock.net Unlock to Rogers Issue

I got a code from Cellunlock.net and I followed the video instructions carefully. I've been using ATT in the states since the launch so I was activated so thats a nonissue.
I put in the Rogers SIM, got "Enter your unlock code". I did that and then it said "SIM Not Provisioned MM2#"
Im getting 4 bars of cell reception and I went into the network settings to specifically select Rogers and it sat and said "Attempting to register on rogers". After 5 minutes nothing happened.
I don't have any ROGERS in the top left corner for my carrier. Just 4-5 signal bars.
When I try to enter the #7465625*638*UNLOCKCODE# method(s) it just says "EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY".
I cant even do
*#7465625#
1. [xxx] Network lock
2. [xxx] Subset lock
3. [xxx] SP lock
to check. It just says emergency calls only.
Should I try doing the activation methods with the ATT sim in and not the rogers? Kinda afraid of messing this up. Is this what "hardlocked" is and I need to use the Defreeze method? Im deeply confused.

Based on what I see the SIM you have from Rogers has not been activated by Rogers yet. That is what the NOT PROVISIONED message means. You need to call Rogers and see if the SIM is actually active. It looks to me the unlock worked since it see the SIM now as Not provisioned. Usually if the unlock fails it will just kick you back the the code entry screen..

Ugh how embarrassing...
I originally thought maybe that was the case too, but I was positive it wasn't... at first.
What ended up happening when I opened the Rogers account and got my SIM was the man pulled out a large SIM card. He started entering account information and when I noticed it I said "Im sorry, I think I need the microSIM not that one."
He said "oh! Perfect timing. I can still correct that, almost sent it without it." And he scanned the microSIM into the computer.
So I was positive that it was activated due to that.
But of course, it wasn't.
I walked into another Rogers that I happened to be closer to earlier today than the one I started at and the man was like "yep, the SIM number on your account is not the one in your phone right now." He changed it on the account and handed me back the SIM. Popped it in - and bam, Rogers 4G LTE.
I was dead set on it being something I messed up, the code not working, or some Samsung nonsense.
Unrelated: Im getting 48/17mbps. WOW, screw ATT. This thing is outstanding, and at 1/2 the price. Literally half.

AT&T unlocked 2014 x not working on tmobile

I have an unlocked AT&T xt1097 but it won't register my T-Mobile Sim card. It registered for about 3 minutes, got a welcome to T-Mobile text and that was that. My phone number shows up in settings, but it shows I have zero service. I've reset, and rebooted several times to no avail. My sim works in a nexus 6 so it's not the sim. Imei os clean. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be or how I could get it to work with my T-Mobile sim?
When you say unlocked, unlocked Sim or unlocked boot loader?
sim unlock. As far as I know there's no boot loader unlock.
Could it be that the imei isn't in T-Mobile's data base since it's an at&t moto x?
Edit: went and put the imei in to tmobiles imei checker and it couldn't figure out what device it was and if it was okay to use on their network. Now I just need to verify with T-Mobile and see if they can register the imei.

Change the APN settings
I have had a problem like this with my unlocked phone and AT&T, but when they set it up in the AT&T store they fiddled with the APN settings. I had to do the same to get my wife's unlocked Lumia 635 to work on the T-Mobile network. Try the values used in the link attached and see if it works.

I was able to connect to tmobile network some times, able to make calls. No data connection at all. I played with APN settings and everything else. any help..?
I have an unlocked ATT x1097 and it works just fine with tmobile.
You just have to MAKE A NEW APN SETTING.
When you put a tmobile sim in it, it will automatically create a couple of T-MOBILE apn settings. Just leave that as is and create a NEW APN SETTING with same info you can find from Google. Select that as your data apn. And reboot the device for the best result. It should fixed the problem.
For those of you whose sim does not register into tmobile network; i think it could be one of the following reasons:
1. Original ATT modem does not work well with tmobile frequency in your area
2. The device is locked (stolen, non-payment, etc)
3. The device is broken
4. Your SIM card is damaged
As long as you are at the home screen with tmobile sim, your phone is GSM UNLOCKED, and it iwill never lock again.

Just wanted to say thank you. My T-Mobile SIM wouldn't connect and I even went to the T-Mobile SIM store to get a new SIM Card but it didn't help. As you stated, adding a new APN setting was the only thing that worked.
For those of you who want to unlock your Moto X, I purchased a code on eBay for about $8 and received it within 6 hours. I would post the link but I'm afraid it might be considered spam.
What type of data signal are you getting? LTE?

Nice. Where did you get your unlock code?
I don't know about OP but I have always used swiftunlocks and have had great luck. Got my N6 from ATT unlocked through them without issues as well.
http://www.swiftunlocks.com/unlock/motorola-at-t-tmobile-worldwide
I noticed that sometimes phone picks up apn without issues and sometimes you have to restart so I just restart every time I make a change to be on the safe side.
Just in case anyone else has the same issue as OP, you should use the
Code:
epc.tmobile.com
APN, NOT the
Code:
fast.tmobile.com
one.
The fast.tmobile.com one would not let me register on the network. epc one did immediately.

Hey, I know this post is kind of old but I am currently having the same problem with my moto X 2014 going from At&t to T-Mobile, were you able to get it fixed and if you did, what did you do?
Any luck? I've just come accross the same issue. Got phone unlocked, and bought a new sim and activated. I'll get like 3-4 minutes of service randomly here and there, but about 99% of the time no service. Tried multiple variations of APN settings that I've found online. No luck
Fixed all my seriously annoying connection problems by flashing the 4.4.4 modem.

I just gotta upload the 4.4.4 modem from my pc, will do that later for you.

Now, I can't even get voice to work... All I see is ' No Service ' and when manually trying to register with T-Mobile, it says ' unable to connect to the T-Mobile network. Please try later '
Someone please help out!!

Can't connect to Cellular Provider

Needing some help. Purchased an "unlocked" Nexus 6 from eBay. I had an error that said phone iccid compare with sim iccid error. I setup the correct APN and still got no service. I restarted the phone and that little Android notification is now gone but I still have no service.
When I go to Cellular Networks I can no longer have an option to search for cellular providers nor input an APN just Preferred Network Type and System Select.
Can anyone help!?

What carrier? Have you contacted them to activate your phone?

I am with a tiny local GSM carrier Union Wireless in Wyoming. I have generally just swapped SIM cards in and out of other phones before. I have never had to call and activate a phone before. I am coming from an unlocked HTC One M8.
@metaphz you may have to contact them. Unless someone else can offer a suggestion, I'm at a loss. I don't think the data dialer reset code will work on non Sprint phones or else I might suggest that.

I'm at a loss here too. I put in another GSM SIM card from Viaero Wireless in Nebraska and it worked for roaming. When I put in my Union SIM it takes away my APN options and acts like it is a CDMA SIM card.

In settings>more>cellular networks, have you set the preferred network to global?
