Hi,so I read a lot of articles about this and I'm aware of the brick bug so I checked my Note with the emmc brick bug check and it showed that I have a sane chip.I got my Note with 4.1.2 and I'm not rooted and I don't need root.So my question is can I safely downgrade to ICS and upgrade it back to JB if I wanted to?I really do not want to mess something up before I begin.

Yes you can if you follow proper procedures and take precautions.
That is if I follow the Odin Pc procedure of flashing? And ofcourse not doing the factory or any kind of wipe/reset on ICS?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
On ICS, just dont do any Wipe while on stock ICS kernel.. You can install a safe kernel like Speedmod / Philz (for ICS ofcourse) and then perform wipes.
- When downgrading from JB to ICS using odin, it may end up in a boot loop.. its better to wipe data while on JB then flash ICS using Odin.
Will try today.I like the older ICS Touchwiz more.

Yes you can, but i assume that u r rooted, so the best way is to flash abyss kernel using mobile odin or CWM. just to be 100% safe, and perform a full wipe, then install whatever u want, u may also format system partition to get 100% clean install

I find here this emmc bug is killing everyone.
I bought this GN just 2 weeks ago.at begining it came with GB installed.i recieved ota update in the same day for ics.so i did it.
After updating i did factory reset the device without knowing that there is a danger to damage the device.
Then i tried to root and installed some other kernels with cwr, which was another mistake.and finally flash it again with stock rom.but this time no wipe!
So the phone is not in clean state.
I read that one way to avoide damaging the device is to flash it with GB rom and then wipe then flash it again with ics one.all by pc odin.
But my problem is i cant find the original GB Rom to do it.
Is it important to flash with original or i can do it with any stock GB rom?
And is there any kernel based on stock kernel which has no mod no tweak and stuff but safe to wipe?i mean with mmc earase disabled.

Here's the link where you can find stock GB (Courtesy of doc Ketan) ->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997 Find your Stock ROM (based on your region)
Let me clear out some wrong notions spreading before.... you can safely WIPE your phone even on ICS as long as you have installed a safe kernel on to your device. You don't necessarily need to go to STOCK GB and do the wipe from there. It is already safe WIPING your phone on ICS just as long as you have the safe kernel installed on your phone.
Safe kernels to mentioned are SpeedMod, HardCore (that is if your in ICS), AbyssNote (if your still on stock GB)
Again no stock GB rom from my country.funny i went to samfirmware before and nothing there also.but for other region there are many!
Current ROM is N7000XXLRI
Which is the only FW from my region.

If you can't find any stock GB from your region then don't fret , Download a direct rootable ROM closest to your region and flash it from there. Remember, your goal is not to say long in GB right? so after you've downloaded a direct rootable GB ROM.. Download back your stock ICS ROM thru PC Odin, ROOT it thru Doc Ketan's thread still and then do a FACTORY wipe after.
P.S. Don't worry about the triangle mark on your boot up screen. You can safely remove that thru ChainFire's TriangleAway app (when your rooted already)
I'll try this.
After all, what do you suggest as a daily driver rom or kernel on GN which is safe and stable to flashing wiping and stuff?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
I'm using stock LRQ (for now), but I've cooked it and made some big modifications to the ROM itself and now everything's working and my phone ''flies'
For the kernel.. SpeedMod is my truly one option... Stability and battery performance... It never fails on me still.... Any cooked ROMs I'm making or flashing one from our good ROM cookers here on this forum.. This kernel is still my best bet... but hey... this just me okay... if you want other safe kernels out there, feel free to try them out... it's your choice anyway...

Hydracore can be used on all ICS and JB roms (TW, CM and AOKP) another is Speedmod for TW ICS roms, these two are safe and can be used as per your rom. Most of the roms are stable now, it totally depends on you, which one suits your requirements
Edit- letters_to_cleo your invisible status always confuse me, lol.
Thanks everyone for replys and help.
Very useful for me. Ofcource boring for you guys.....

Hey guys, Recently my dad got a Galaxy Note (N7000) and he has been complaining about The Note 2 getting jelly bean and stuff.
I already rooted it for him with Superuser.
I want to install a custom rom for him but I read a lot of topics saying that theres a very high chance on bricking your device using CWM and stuff.
If anyone could post a step by step guide, That would be super-appreciated, Thank you in advance.

He's already rooted and on stock kernel, if he tries to flash a ROM using above CWM.zip or does factory reset on it, he will brick his device.
Best advice is to go Here, download PhilZ-cwm6-DXLR5-OLB-2.7-signed.zip (that's the one that is compatible with his ROM) and put it on external SD card. From there, boot into recovery mode, and flash Philz kernel from external storage. (It's the only one that can be flashed from stock recovery). Then phone will be fully rooted with safe stock kernel and safe CWM recovery. Only then should any attempt be made to flash ROMs from recovery.
Re: CWM.zip READ THIS
Easiest for me is to flash ICS of your choice using Odin. Then flash speedmod-kernel-n7000-ics-k3-13-Odin.tar using Odin. Select PDA in Odin to use this file. Google it up. Double check that the file you get is for ICS N7000 and that it is the Odin version.
The end result will be a rooted ICS that you can safely wipe. It also has Clockworkmod installed. This allows you to flash custom JB roms. You may get a yellow triangle upon reboot. Just buy Triangle Away on Google Play store. Reset the counter using the app.
But flashing philz from stock doesn't result in triangle, raised counter and need for triangle away. Surely easier

If he has to ask what is xxLRG, thr i wont even advice him to flash custom roms.
Sell the Note and get your father a Note2. Chances are, he will complain of so many things "not normal" once in custom rom, etc.

To be safe, do a full wipe WHILE you are on GB. Then update to ICS. The phone should be clean. This way no risk of the brick bug.

Wipe what ever u want when yr on gb rom itself. Once u wipe on gb n update. i think u will ve no need to wipe later
Never wipe or factory reset on ics stock kernel.
Using philz stock safe kernel u can then get rooted n then wipe anything on ics.

I was tracking that using CWM to root on the N7000 was not a good move? There is a note at the top of the Q&A in this section ... says no to CWM.
Thoughts?
yes its not safe to root using CWM.zip file

Official JB is not yet released by Samsung. There are TW leaks in Dev Forum, try it out. IMHO Official CM 10.1 is the best.
I hope you are aware of the super-brick bug.
