On GEAR, you can take photo (camera app built-in), then it can transfer those photos from GEAR to your Paired mobile phone.
If you need more app, you can make installation from apk files (by the use of ADB or Wondershare GoMobile or Bluetooth File Transfer).

Yeah, but take a picture with the watches built in camera, and one with the phone. I tried taking pictures of my son trick-or-treating tonight and the watch doesn't do well in low lights or distances. I had the Sony Smartwatch 1 and it had apps to take pictures using the phones camera, record audio via the phone (So you could leave your phone in a room and record from your watch). On the remote camera app it even showed the viewfinder on the watch. Thats my chief complaint about the Galaxy Gear. The Sony Smartwatch came out over a year ago, and the apps it had are way more advanced than the Galaxy Gear which is $100 more than what I bought the Sony watch in 2012. I could read full GMail emails, facebook posts not just messages, same with twitter. It worked both ways the phone could control the watch and the watch could control the phone. The ONLY reason I'm putting up with the Galaxy Gear is because the ability to make/receive calls via bluetooth comes in handy for me. I just hope I didn't back the wrong horse by switching to Samsung..... I think Sony was more successful because they left apps to the Google Play store. Once the developer pack was out anyone could make an app for the Sony watch and put it in the market. I'm not very satisifed with the APP store being proprietary.

yea exacly what i need to.. something similair to smartwatch,, aremote for the phone camera, the one build in the watch isnt good in low light :/

what your looking for is a remote for the phone's camera like the "Media Controller".
might not exist yet :/

I would like to know if there is an app that will allow you to activate the gear camera from your phone...for example if you wanted to use it in another room.

Nice! Its interesting to have this Samsung gear watch. Mine is Samsung Galaxy mobile phone only.

Just figured out how to use the gear as a trigger to take pictures with my phone
This is kinda limited but hadnt seen it on these forums yet so figured would share once I got this somewhat working. The app to use is camera remote, it is free on market, and needs to be installed on both the android device, mine is currently the verizon gs4, and to have it sideloaded to the gear, used wondershare no problem.Once both apps are installed, you lauch on the phone, and then select the option of camera, then you launch it on the gear, and select remote, its hard to see in the frames due to the adds but can be selected. Once both apps are running you can then on the phone select the bluetooth icon and select pair, assuming your gear is already connected to the phone through gear manager. Then select gear, then line up the phone to what you want to take a pic of, used my dog sleeping on the couch, and then on the watch app hit the camera icon and it will trigger the phone to take a pic. Im sure this can be expanded on but figured would share the initial fun.

Cannot find Smart Remote TV app to download

Happy New Year!
As per title, there is a software that works with the Note 3 and S4 which functions as a Remote Control for TVs, stereos etc.. This software is called WatchON, is installed by default on Note 3 and uses irDA (infrared) to control the aforementioned equipment.
There is now another part of this software which works specifically with WatchON and is only for Samsung Galaxy Gear. It is made by Peel. It functions as a remote tv etc. control using the irDA of the phone. So you leave the phone on the sofa looking the TV and can change channels using the Galaxy Gear..
More info here:

Well I cannot find this specific app for my Galaxy Gear to install it! If anyone has it could you please upload it?
Thanx.

The Gear has no IR emitter. There's no hardware to support it, it's impossible.

Yes I know that it has no IR hardware.
The Gear uses via bluetooth the WatchON app and the IR hardware of Note 3 to send commands to TVs etc.
In other words the Gear is used as a companion to WatchON app which is installed on the phone and sends the commands via BT to the phone which are then transmitted via the IR emitter of the phone to the TV set.
I am trying to find and download the Remote Control app which allows the Galaxy Gear to function as mentioned above.

I'm all for doing tech because you can do it, but that'd be a total waste that I can tell. You'd have to get your phone out, make sure it was pointed at the TV, then use the BT on your watch to control the phone to control the TV?

Haven't seen it, but it sounds like a cool idea to me. If you never have to touch a remote while watching a program, I get that this may seem a bit much. However, when you have multiple interruptions (think kids) and the remote has gotten lost between the pillows, the value of this idea becomes obvious.
I'll see if I can't find it.
That app hit the gear store awhile ago and was subsequently pulled within a few days-no idea why-did try it and it was more trouble than it was worth-after a few minutes I ended up uninstalling

it sounds rather usefull to me. i have my note 3 connected to TV/projector sometimes, and it's usually pointed at the screen anyway so having the ability to pause/change volume etc from my wrist would be more than cool.

Can we run Sony Liveware on the Gear?

Hi there,
While playing around with some apps and the Gear i noticed that the Sony Liveware app is able to connect with the Gear. To my surprise it connect without a hitch and the Gear is detected as a smartwatch by the app!
However, after that there isn't much to do with the Liveware app, probably because there is no corresponding app on the Gear to interact with.
This made me wonder: what if we could sideload the necessary apps on the Gear that communicates with the Liveware app?
In *theory* this could give the Gear a lot of extra things to play around with.
It's probably not a simple as it sounds but it's worth a try i guess. I'm afraid i can't test this out since i'm my knowledge of the advanced working of Android is nonexistent. Any developer around that would be so kind to test this  ?

With the proper extensions (available via Sony or third party dev's in the Play Store) it is able to manage "smart devices" (as Sony calls them).
These include the Sony Smartwatch devices, wireless headphones and headsets.
Since i'm a new poster around here i'm not able to post links yet, but if you search for "Smart Connect (LiveWare™ Mgr)" in the Play Store you will find it.
In the related apps section are various extensions that add functionality to these smart devices.
I was just looking up all the apps for the smartwatch and there are plenty. Could we download these and push the apk with adb? This would add some nice functions for unrooted gears.
somebody should try it out

use your gear as a security camera or monitor

want to use your watch to see what's going on at home? all you need is the Gear + another android device - and install 20:20 app - this app turns your watch into a remote security camera or use it to monitor the video feed from another device
for my setup, i took an old android phone and installed the app and set it as my emote camera at home. i then installed the same app on my gear and configured it as my monitor - so now i can see what's going on at home.in addition you can set the remote camera to sound an alarm and/or start recording should it detect motion where it is looking (paid version)

Because why would I carry both the old phone and the watch? The point is my old phone acts like my remote camera and the watch as my monitor so I can check it where ever I am

Things to be recognize for buying surveillance system
If you are looking to get security system for your home or office, cctv camera is best solution to this issue. In the present scenario of increased modernization and the extend of crimes is also rapidly growing. Some people always have fear in their mind that burglars would come in their homes and they can’t get peace of mind in such a situation. Surveillance system can give piece of mind to the society by detecting frauds and persons behind the occurrence. While procuring surveillance system, there are number of brans in market having its own unique features and it becomes confusing to select suitable security system among number of alternatives.
The first thing you must consider while purchasing CCTV camera is its TV line. The quality of cctv camera can be judged from the TV line. The more the TV line of camera, the higher is the quality. The price will also differ as the range of TV line changes. The second important thing is the internet viewing resolution. Which means the ability to produce high resolution images that your DVR records the sequence of images? Mostly cameras have 4 CIF (Common Intermediate Format). The selection of appropriate surveillance system from right person is also a big challenge in itself. The persons involved in surveillance sectors have many years of experience in designing and monitoring the security system. You can gain much more than just acquiring equipment. The selection of right type of lens is also another factor that needs to be emphasized. The lens controls the focus that CCTV camera can get under its ambit.

Samusng Gear VR - Improvement List

So, after about a week with the Gear VR, here are my initial list of improvements. Feel free to add.
- Youtube Mode,
- Ability to disable Gear VR Autostart upon insertion.
- Ability to run Cardboard Apps
- Ability to run Oculus DK Apps
- Back button twice removes the need to confirm yes or no.
- Ability to delete videos
- Ability to disable my photos from showing in Oculus ( yes, my personal photos in dcim)
- Ability to change seats in the theater.
- Subtitles in movies etc.
- Ability to fast forward/ rewind Oculus 360 Video Files.
- Ability to swipe up and down in oculus photo so you can jump to next category of images instead of just next image.
PS - From the oculus site, the best way to insert the Note 4 without triggering vr app is to first tilt the usb port on the gear vr upward then slide the Note 4 below it.
.
Oh sure, more to add:
Netflix, Google play, amazon streaming tv and movies in oculus cinema mode would be epic. Being able to run any app on the big screen of the cinema mode would rock, like emulators limelight game streaming, etc., using bt controller.
Double tap back should open the pass thru camera mode so I can quickly see what's going on. Adding wireless download of cities 360 images on the fly.

I would say this is the most important one and would resolve much of the rest of the list. Thanks to cardboard there is already a lot of VR content that, while it may not be able to use the additional sensors and controls int he Gear VR, will still work with it. You can not entirely insert it into the USB port o accomplish this, but this is a very poor workaround and it seems like the buttons should still be able to work even out of the app since it's seen by the device as a mouse input.

Maybe you can activate the private mode and put your personal photos in there, so that they can be only accessed by your fingerprint or password. Then they shouldn't show up in the Gear VR aswell.

Yeah that's defintely an option but more work I shouldn't be doing. Gear VR automatically showing my dcim videos on Oculus Cinema is kinda weird. I only want it to show videos under it's own folders.

Yeah, i'd love to be able to disable it. Maybe there is a way to disable one of the main Oculus app with the application manager. I'm not quite sure which one to disable at the moment as there are quite a few oculus related apps showing. Will tinker with it.
To enable/disable subs just use the gallery viewer to find the movie you want. From there there's an option for subs once the movie is playing . Only get the void viewing option though.
Here's a thread on using cardboard apps and playing SBS 3D video on BS player (should work on other players too) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-vr/general/gear-vr-google-cardboard-3d-vids-t2973607
- Ability to focus eyes individually - This would require moving the lens rather than the phone, but if your eyes are not the same, one will always be blurry. Unless you have contacts i guess.
- Better ventilation - My lens gets steamed up
how to
how do you put gear vr in Youtube Mode,
- Ability to disable Gear VR Autostart upon insertion.
- Ability to run Cardboard Apps
- Ability to run Oculus DK Apps
can you make a video or upload a how to on here

Adjust for different eye distances.
My eyes are close together (low PD) and I feel like it may be affecting image quality. Samsung IPD claims is 55mm to 71mm, so I am at the low end.

I figured out a surefire way to stop Gear VR from starting for now. I just use Titanium Backup and the "Gear VR Service" WILL show. I just freeze it and unfreeze when needed. I tried the other app that was recommended but that for sure did not show Gear VR Service on the list of apps to disable.

I'm not sure as I have root. But one great thing about this is, it actually lets me use the trackpad on the Gear VR. I can even swipe forward and back along with the regular tap.

*Jealous* :crying: That sounds like fun though~ Can you use your phone like normal and load up oculus stuff still? o.0
edit:
A tablet made for the gearVR would be cool too! Something like a drawing tablet that ends up functioning and looking like the fancy tablets in those marvel movies

Alternative for NON VR App simulation

I have heard of Native SBS for the usage of non VR apps but it requires a rooted phone which I can't do because of company policy. Is there any alternatives that basically splits the screen and adjust focus to work on the Gear? Would be awesome to be able to have a full screen view of some non VR games and Apps.
I'm actually wondering the same thing. Figure I would bump this instead of making a new thread.
Been googling for a while now....
Edit:
Ah ok I see now after finally receiving my Gear VR a couple days ago.
The app must support "Stereoscopic view" before you can even use Gear VR in it. It is possible to mount the phone in the gear VR without it plugging so it doesn't go to the app. So you will see whatever you want on your screen, however it won't realistically be usable. For 3rd party apps such as PPSSPP, you can turn on "Google Cardboard view" and use your VR and I must say it works pretty damn well.
