Hi Guys...
2 days ago i woke up and found that my phone had no signal. I thought that Rogers (my carrier) was screwing around or something. So i just restarted my device. Nothing.
I checked *#*#4636#*#* and my radio was on (toggled it on and off and on again) and the correct network types were selected (GMS/LTE/CDMA etc. I checked in the settings menu and the correct network types were selected again. Lastly APN settings were all entered for MMS, Data, LTE, etc.
I try to search for the network and it shows Rogers, Telus and Bell. I try to connect to Rogers and i get a message saying that "Your SIM card does not allow this type of connection".
I luckily had a backup from the day previous which i restored. No go there. I did a full clean wipe and install of Viper One RC2 and then a random AOSP-based ROM, again nothing.
the weird thing is that in the Phone Information menu the device reads my phone number and IMEI easiy, so its not like the phone isn't reading the SIM card...
Has anyone encountered this problem or have any suggestions? I have seen this error happen with other devices when i Googled it and searched XDA, but no solution or resolution, and definitely nothing specific to the HTC One.
Did you buy the phone new or used? I've seen this happen to people who bought used phones on ebay. There's a scam going in which the seller will wait a month to get outside the return period and then report it stolen. They get the $$$ and a new phone, and you're screwed.
If you bought it new, your sim card might be damaged.
I wish it was a SIM card issue, but it's not. I tried the same SIM in my Nexus 4 and it works just fine. My sister has an iPhone 4S, I swapped the SIM from it and it didn't work either.
The device itself is a Telus device unlocked that I bought locally brand new from a seller off of kijiji. The device was completely untouched and wrapped in all the right ways. I bought it back in June I think.

It may have been a brand new phone that the seller bought and immediately put up for sale.
You need to talk to Telus to see if the IMEI has been reported stolen.
So the device is definitely blacklisted in Canada...Rogers is saying it's Telus that blacklisted it. Telus is saying they never had the device in their inventory (IMEI doesn't show in their database), so it isn't their device and they didn't blacklisted it. Bell said they had in their database and its a deactivated IMEI, so...I'll be taking a trip to several corporate stores to get this sorted today.

Hi guys!
To start off, happy Friday! I'm experiencing some issues with my new SIM card on my One. I bought it on eBay, but it didn't have a SIM as it was gently used. So I contacted Sprint, and after 2 hours on the phone I got them to ship a new SIM to me. I got it yesterday, but have been receiving errors constantly. I get the error that says something to the effect of the SIM taking too long to contact the tower, and 4G will be unavailable, and to power cycle the phone. The other error I get is a Self Service screen pops up, says please wait, then says after about 10 seconds "Because of the type of account you have, we'll need to help you with this task. Please dial *2 from your Sprint phone or call Customer Care at 1-888-211-4727 from another phone so we can assist you." I called twice, got two different reps and explained all this to them. One said to bring it into a sprint store, ( I don't believe that's necessary yet.) The other told me to update PRL and Profile. Neither worked. Help?

I'm also rooted, s off via moonshine, running viperRom One v1.1.0 with the latest Bulletproof kernel. I've tried wiping cache/delvik, and doing a nand back to stock rooted but still had the problem. Anyone know how to fix? I'll do a fresh install tomorrow if viperRom.

They have to make sure that the UICC number on your account matches the one on your UICC, or you will have that problem. Should be easy enough if you get someone decently trained on the phone. I found that the overseas reps keep confusing it for an SD card and can't figure it out, but the American reps can do it easily. I know this is the issue you are having because I tried to use the UICC from my other Sprint HTC One while waiting to get a replacement for the defective one my phone shipped with, and ran into the same exact thing you are seeing (stock ROM too).
Worst case scenario you can take it to a Sprint corporate store. Mine gave me a replacement UICC for free and changed the UICC on the account. (Story for me is that mine wasn't being detected at all, bought phone from Wirefly and Wirefly wanted me to send back the whole phone, Sprint refused to mail me a UICC, really didn't want to send phone back so I went to corporate store instead).

Hey guys, I bought a second hand AT&T Moto X 2014 off ebay about a week ago with a clean IMEI. I unlocked the phone by buying a code online, but since then have not been able to get a stable signal. I purchased a new TMobile nano card, and had it activated. I'll get cell service for about 3 minutes, and can make calls, send a text... then the phone will get no service whatsoever for the rest of the day. I'll get surprise pockets of service for several minutes once or twice a day.
I spent some time with the TMobile technicians, who have registered the IMEI, have done a master restore (not sure what that meant) sent several signal downloads to the sim, and ultimately said the issue is with the phone. I also tried my wifes ATT sim card and rebooted, still resulting in no service on ATT either. The Moto X is running 5.02. I've tried messing with the APN settings in various formats that I've seen online. My new sim works with my Nexus 5 perfectly.
I contacted the ebay seller, who is willing to refund 50% of the purchase due to unlocking the phone online. Do I pretty much have a bricked phone? I can't seem to find a solution and have gone back to using my nexus 5 with a shattered screen.

Try changing the network from gsm/LTE (default) to wcdma preferred. I found the phone to pick up better signal when I change it to wcdma. Download the app secret phone info from the playstore. I also have the at&t variant and I unlocked it buying an online code and it works flawlessly with my carrier

After having tried reflashing to stock, fastbooting just the radio, doing numerous factory resets, downloading the app you suggesting and switching the networks gets me reliable cell coverage! Now I just have to work on figuring out how to get data coverage.

How is the world did you know to do this? This happened to me after I unlocked my AT&T XT1097. Once unlocked with T-Mobile SIM, the phone no longer shows any service with either AT&T or T-Mobile. Very frustrating, was ready to send the phone back and luckily decided to Google and of course, this is exactly what the issue was. THANK YOU, THANK, THANK YOU.
Why is this even an issue with this phone? Makes no sense. You truly saved the day.

Can you guys please tell me where you got the unlock codes from? There are a bunch of sites online, and I don't know which one to purchase it from.

I have a Nexus 6 that my son bought off of Swappa, and it worked fine for about six weeks. It has an AT&T sim card in it. One day he looks down at his phone, and has no data connection. The data indicator in the status bar just shows an empty triangle. He was running Chroma 6.01 at the time.
Things I've tried and the results: (I have tried fixing APN settings along each step of the way, the phone won't pull them in automatically. I've also tried locking it down to 2g/3g/LTE only)
1. Wiped and reinstalled Chroma - no change
2. Completely wiped and factory reset using Wug's - no change
3. Took to AT&T, had sim card replaced. New sim card works fine in another phone, but no change on Nexus.
4. Completely wiped, updated radio, and installed PureNexus - still empty triangle, but got a couple emergency broadcasts...very odd, tells me it has some kind of connection.
5. Tried all versions available for radio, tried rolling back to factory lollipop using Wug's, no go.
6. Wiped and install OctoOS - no change
7. Had sim card replaced one more time for good measure - no change
8. Took Verizon sim card and installed, now it has bars in the triangle, APN is automatically located, but no actual data...I'm guessing because the phone isn't actually activated for the Verizon account?
Edit: 9: I did check the IMEI through both Swappa and AT&T, and it came up clean both places.
Edit: 10: I did factory reset using Wug's to 5.1.1, 5.01, and 7. Full data wipes each time, including SD card.
Observations: The phone is reading the sim card, at least partially. It pulls the phone number from the sim card properly, shows the proper carrier, and almost works with Verizon (well, different results from AT&T anyway.) That to me indicates that it might not be hardware related, but I don't know what else it could be after doing everything I've done.
I'm hoping somebody here may have some other suggestions to try?
When I read your trials ... Did you try the official stock rom?
The N6 sounds like it's blocked on AT&T's network. Follow @NLBeev's advice first. If that doesn't work, I'd double-check the IMEI using Swappa's tool. The original owner might have had the thing financed and stopped making payments once he got his money.
I did actually, sorry, I should have included it in my original post. I'll modify to include it. I actually tried 5.1.1, 6.01, and 7.
Excellent suggestion, and I did actually try that. I forgot I did that, thank you for reminding me. I'll add that to my original post. I checked the IMEI both in Swappa and through AT&T, and it came up clean both places. Is it possible they could have blocked it a different way, not using the IMEI?
Granted I don't have even a sliver of the technical knowledge of the other members who commented, but, reading through your post and the thread...
It seems to me that the Nexus 6 might still be Carrier Locked to Verizon...

Very good thought, and I will look into it. I suspect it's most likely not the case though, since it worked on AT&T for about six weeks prior to it failing. The seller sold it as an unlocked phone, previously used on the AT&T network, but you know how that goes. Can't take anything on faith when it comes to used equipment :/

Typically Verizon phones are unlocked. I bought the N6 off eBay and the seller had Verizon at the time and it was a Verizon branded 6. I did not unlock it and used it on ATT/Cricket for 6 months before coming to Verizon.....
Have you checked to see if you have an IMEI number under settings? Maybe your EFS partition got screwed up.
By law (FCC) verizon LTE capable phones are sold unlocked, don't think it's a carrier lock issue
Have you verified with att (or who the use for insurance claims) that phone wasn't reported stolen after you may have bought it? I know a guy who bought a HTC 10 on Craigslist and it worked great for 3 weeks then was killed. When it was reported lost/stolen.

I did verify with AT&T that there was no report of it being stolen. The IMEI does show up in settings, as does the phone number. It shows "Carrier Unknown" in the carrier field though, but only when on AT&T. When I try Verizon, it actually reads Verizon as the carrier.
When I boot into the bootloader, it shows Device Unlocked, Status Code 3, so I think it's unlocked properly.
Is it possible, as chapelfreak suggests, that the EFS partition is corrupt? If so, is there a method to fix it?

If it's efs usually it needs to be backed up before restoring. If you are able to flash it be cognizant of which twrp you use.

Darn. So if there's no EFS backup, chances are this thing is now just a very small WiFi tablet? I didn't make a backup of EFS, didn't even bother to make any backup at all, just flashed Chroma and let it run for a month and half before the deathstroke happened.

I've read a few threads where the EFS got corrupted and the phone had to be returned, but that was several years ago so personally I have a EFS backup via TWRP on a OTG stick, but I've never had to use it. I know it's an option to back up in the nandroids for TWRP but usually that is not one of the boxes checked.
I agree with you though it is hard buying pre-owned items. Personally, I have learned from past purchases to stay away from anything electronic that has been pre-owned due to the unknown nature and it can be a hit or miss.
I recently tried activating a Nexus 6 from AT&T to one of my existing Sprint lines. After Sim card switches, BYOD to SIMGLW446C and lots of support from a knowledgeable in-store tech it was determined that my phone was confirmed "activated" but it would not connect to the network.
The tech discovered the phone did not have a MIN nor did it list my phone number in the phone settings. They could not determine where the error was stemming from but told me the IMEI and ICCID were accurate and we confirmed the phone unlocked through ATT. (Unlocked two days prior to latest attempt at activating)
Nobody seems to know what is keeping this phone from functioning properly. Any input is greatly appreciated as I would love to have it in service. I have it listed for sale as AT&T but am starting to feel skeptical if there is just something wrong with it and shouldn't be selling it off for someone else to be disappointed.

Ok... I'm sure you made sure the IMEI that is printed somewhere... is not blacklisted...
Go grab the factory images and flash the newest radio from it using fastboot... See if that works...
If not... Flash the whole thing... Image at a time and see if that fixes it...

Thanks for the input. I flashed a new factory image and it authenticated to Sprint's network just fine. It still wouldn't let me switch and activate online but no other issues aside from that.
Just bought a note 8 N950fd it was working fine for a few days but now I have no network signal no data signal when I try to scan for networks it gives error while searching for network when I try to select automatically I get unable to connect try again later message. I've tried using another Sim tested my Sim on my old phone and used another Sim form my brothers phone and factory reset with no luck. fixing the problem. I'm with Public mobile in Canada .

Well I found out what the problem is. I checked the IMEI on Public Mobile and it came back stolen. I purchased it off of Amazon the seller was Firstronic, fortunately it's covered by Amazon Prime so I'll be getting a full refund.

When I looked at the ad on Amazon there was two other verified customers who also complained about receiving stolen phones as well. Too bad I didn't read all the reviews before I purchased my phone. Amazon has pulled the seller from their merchants list.
