Nexus 5 vs LG G2 comparison -- I have both! - Nexus 5 General

I just got my Nexus 5 today - it's perfect so far (cross my fingers). I know there are a lot of impressions threads but this is a baseline for people who are still waiting and want more details about the Nexus 5 that some of hands on have been lacking. So Let's begin.
Compared to the LG G2. They are almost identical in size. The LG feels heavier but that's not a bad thing. The Nexus 5 is super light and you can feel it. It's about a 1mm thinner and i see that. When looking at both phones in each hand -- there is a big difference in screen. The .2 inch screen side does make a difference but i was wondering why the "edge to edge" of the nexus 5 wasn't giving me this feeling that the screen is floating. THe reason is because the screen isn't edge to edge. The L2 actually has thinner bezels and this actually does make a difference. It smacks you right in the face.
that being said, the screen of the Nexus 5 is better than the LG G2.
The display is brighter than the G2 -- The highest brightness of the G2 is about 60% brightness of the N5. I can use the N5 in about 15% brightness just fine.
The colors of the N5 are flatter, the G2 does show more saturation. I'll try and post pictures of this.
The color tones of the N5 is warmer than the G2. N5 has those slight yellow whites vs cold blueish tones of the G2.
I do miss the 5.2 inch screen of the G2 but I don't miss UI and sluggish feel.
the screen of the N5 is sharper. This is probably more due to the font choice. LG made a horrible choose of font with thicker font compared to the roboto font that works well with sharper screens. I always thought my G2 was burly and maybe it was the oil from my fingers, then i realized it was just like that.....fail.
Speakers:
Speakers on the G2 are louder but as you get maxed out, the sound starts to sound distorty.
WIth the n5, its not as loud but it sounds good even at max. (bit dissapointment for anyone with a HTC one)
Camera
Testing camera right now. The pictures seem very similar, the biggest issue with stock android has always been autofocus. The G2 had about a 10 autofocus fiend or something so it locked onto subjects good, the nexus i was a bit concerned. HDR+ is actually pretty awesome but you have to hold it pretty careful. I'll do a side by side comparison these.
Memory:
cleared all applications - Ram used 1.24 gigs / 524 free for G2
cleared all applications - Ram used 1 gigs / ~750MB free for N5
UI
not even close, I"m glad to be on Kit Kat and way from LG.
Battery life
I played with the phone for 4 and half hours non stop. Loading all apps, getting things installed. Talking on hangouts -- Screen on time 3.5 hours (isn).
G2 gets about 5 hours screen on for me on Verizon. This sounds about right -- since the G2 is 25% bigger battery life. it should see 25 percent better screen on.
Misc
due the touch screen issues of the G2 -- it's freaking annoying and I don't want to go back to that screen with those issues.
More to come.

Awesome comparison mate. I swapped my G2 for the Nexus 5 and love the speed difference. can't really tell the screen size difference personally though as both phones have about the same footprint.

i wonder why kitkat is taking a full gig of ram after you cleared all apps out

I don't think it being rounded is the issue. It's whether the dimensions allow it to fit. If a slightly thicker backing is required at least that's possible to do.

I'm thinking about selling my G2 and buying a N5 also, and I would still be in profit.
The only thing that made me reconsider is the battery life. Right now I dont even think about charging, never! I dont bring a charging cable to work, Its just one worry less
I didn't realize any issue with the touchscreen on the G2, could you be more specific?
I think that it's almost the same phone by specs, size etc.
Only difference is battery, camera and being on stock of course

Nice comparison. I have a G2 that someone is coming to my work to buy today, and my Nexus 5 is on the UPS truck to be delivered today. I loved the G2, but couldn't get past some deep flaws like a wonky touchscreen, wonky proximity sensor and those god-awful rear buttons. I will DEFINITELY miss the battery life, it was just insane a cell phone could last that long.
I just hope the speaker phone, camera and battery life are not as bad as some reviews are saying on the N5.

I stopped reading you said nexus 5 speakers are not loud but sounds good even when at max.

It's not, the app is just cached into the RAM, which opens your apps quicker. Rebooting will give you a fresh RAM.

So disappointed with my N4 :(

I sold my S3 and switched to my old GNex while I waited on the N4. Ordered, shipped pretty much right away and got it. But now I'm actually quite disappointed. The screen is awful compared to the GNex or S3. Wireless display doesn't work (I guess I can blame Netgear for that). Wireless charging doesn't work right (Qi certified chargers should work on all Qi devices IMHO).
All in all, I actually miss my GNex, and think I may just go back to that. Nothing on the N4 amazes me.
Me > sad.
I used the device in store today, although the screen isn't anywhere near sgs3 in terms of colour, its not as bad as you make it out to be

I have it in front of me side by side with my GNex - and the difference is insane. Colors are washed out, black is grey and the contract is poor.
In *my* opinion, one of the worst displays I've seen in a long time. Samsung has spoiled me...
The only thing I will agree with is the screen. Not as vibrant as my Vibrant was, but I don't care. I have a phone that does everything I want it to. Have not tried wireless charging yet and probably will never use the wireless display.
Sell it to someone who wants it and go back to your old phone.
I hate the amoled screen on the Gnex versus N4. The N4 is a huge improvement. It isn't "washed out" its just not oversaturated like half the phones on the market are.
Yeah, it will not looked as over-saturated as an amoled screen. Amoleds might look colorful, but are way too over-saturated in my opinion. What you are seeing on the Nexus 4 is how the colors should look. The Nexus 4s that are being shipped haven't been calibrated properly, but at least they don't look as insane as an amoled screen.
Sigh
Another user who had become accustomed to poor amoled screens.
The colours that amoled shows are not correct, they are severely oversaturated.

Exactly, I like the S3 screen but i realize it is not accurate coloring! Amoleds make you believe what you are seeing is how colors look in real life. The IPS in the N4 is more accurate and sharper.
I understand where many people are coming from when they say "washed out screen", but when you compare it to the overly saturated Samsung screens it does make a huge difference. I honestly love the N4 screen and think it's 10x better than the gNex, and is not even compareable to my G2X...I must say however, that the N4 has an unbelieveably nice, realistic color looking scheme with it's screen and I absolutely adore it!
Lol OP sounds like a bit of a troll.
I'm coming from a Gnex, and I have been extremely impressed with the speed of the N4. The colors on my Gnex were very purple, but a custom kernel and ROM were able to correct it. The screen on the N4 looks a little white in comparison, way better than purple. I can live with this for now, but I will be flashing as soon as any worthwhile looking ROM and kernels come out.
I'm also coming from a GNex. I like the N4 screen so much more. The colors on the GNex always made the icons and a lot of other things seem cartoonish to me. The N4 seems so much more natural. When I first got my GNex one of the first things I looked for was a kernel with some kind of voodoo color... Same thing with my Nexus S.

Your eyes has been messed up by samsung amoled screen their colors are always saturated and exposed. Its not accurate. With both the GNex and the SIII you've been on their drug for too long. Welcome back to reality.
Just to make sure your device isn't defective try visiting a tmobile store and compare your phone with the ones on display to see if its the same.

I agree - it does do everything I want it to - but so did my GNex - the whole purpose of dropping another $350 on a phone, is that the upgrade is actually an upgrade.
Only upside is that they are in such high demand that it'll sell with a profit. Sorry to whoever buys it and feels ripped off by me

only 2 things bug me about the n4
1. static noise from headset (well not really since you only hear it in a quiet room and put the phone to your ear)
2. battery life
amoled is so bad in low brightness, turns useless when you're outside, and the burn in

I thought the same thing, then I compared it at the local T-Mobile store and it looks the same. I guess Amoled really did screw me up - but at least black is actually black on that. Given the comments here, it is clearly a personal thing. I just can't get used to the washed out colors. Reception is also weaker and audio over Bluetooth crackles.
Don't get me wrong - it is a gorgeous phone, but I had hoped for more.
Yeah, I agree the N4 looks more washed out, but as everyone has said, it's all about OLED and the perceived color compared to realistic color.
I also noticed that my GNex had more of a yellow (warmer) tint to it whereas the N4 is more bluish-white. I much prefer the N4 screen and it's not even close.

The "Supposed" washed out screen on the N5

For those saying the N5 has a washed out screen i advise you to watch this video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlNcuBcnnoU
The N5 has a top notch screen, the viewing angles are abit off but the actual quality is amazing! It clearly outclasses the Xperia Z1, a £450+ phone which only got released recently, and the screen on that is meant to be an improvement on its predecessor the Z1, I feel sorry for the people who bought that O.O

To say that the N5's screen is great because it's better than the Z1's isn't saying a whole lot. That's like calling yourself fast bc you're only the 3 slowest kid in gym class. I've had both phones and still currently have my N5. I do find the N5 screen to be dull compared to most phones I've used and compared. That being said, as you raise the brightness the screen does look much nicer. It seems the brightness levels have more to do with it than the actual quality of the screen. The Z1 is a great phone but one plagued by terrible viewing angles. The screen which is still quite nice, isn't the best part of the phone so I wouldn't use it as a base of comparison to build up the N5's screen. I don't put a lot of weight into those "complaint threads" because the phone costs $349-$400, for what you pay you get a pretty good phone.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Forum Runner
A lot of people confuse over saturation as a nice screen and natural as dull. Since you can't really test the difference on a phone, if your TV has a standard or vivid mode then throw it on that. Then throw the TV into movie mode. It would look dull at first but that is the closest picture to a calibrated level you will get out of the box. Once your eyes adjust to that picture, then try going back to standard mode. You will never be able to watch an over saturated fake picture again.
Look at the picture in a movie theater, you can call that dull as well but these is what natural and real life look like.
Now, if they boosted up the contrast, that would improve the screen.
looks like we need someone with calibration equipment to do some testing. i mean compared to a samsung with whatever the latest iteration of amoled screen most do look dull. that doesn't mean the samsung is better. samsung tends to artificailly over saturate the colors and they usually have a high color temp and sometimes a green tint.
any photographers or printers out there willing to test the screen?

I'm really looking forward to the inevitable Anandtech review of this phone. Their reviews are almost absurdly detailed and they have lots of great, objective data.
Next to my Moto X and Note 3, my Nexus 5 DOES look washed out. That's the AMOLED effect.
I compared it to both my Nexus 7 and iPad Air and it looks almost identical. Almost every review I have seen claims that it is "washed out", but I'm beginning to think it's just a color neutral LCD screen.
Angeloftech (check out her youtube channel) does some very extensive screen tests in her reviews and talks about the calibration and what the numbers mean. She hasn't released her Nexus 5 review yet, but I suspect it's due any day. That will give us a little better indication of what this screen is about. For example, she called out the LG G2 as being oversaturated and nowhere near accurate. That screen looks great to me, but the tests don't lie. I think we have just become accustomed to oversaturated screens and it's skewing our perspective a little.
The colours are fine it's the white balance that's off it's too warm.

You can have a "natural" colors and still have a "dull" or washed out screen. This isn't simply a case of AMOLED over saturation vs N5 and it's "natural" colors. My HTC Butterfly to me has the best screen I've seen. Mind you I own a 5S, Note 3, Butterfly S and N5 all currently. Its color reproduction, saturation, viewing angles and clarity to me best the others. The N5's colors are closer to "natural " then AMOLEDS however that being said is still on the dull side. The note has a clear, bright screen and tends to have improved the cartoonish saturation effect especially when in Movie Mode. Overall I think the N5's screen is OK but not my favorite.

Her reviews make many of the big boys look like novice fanboys. She does in depth testing with LOTS of real world use reports. She takes the time to actually use these things and not be the first out the door with a review. Most importantly, she will put the screen under a scope so we can see what is going on. The nexus 5 screen to me looks amazing, very reminiscent of the calibration apple uses. Compared o the broken calibration that was the nexus 4, I think it is great.

This wouldn't entirely surprise me. I've been scratching my heads about the threads about the yellow whites. I believe some people are experiencing it, especially since people have provided pictures. The white on my phone is a neutral or slightly cool white.
No yellow colors here. my xperia t has a more yellowish screen + is washed out a lot more
As far as I have used this device for a week, it seems color temperature is a bit too high. I hope there will be some kernels that has color temperature options.

There was already a calibration test done. There is a link somewhere in one of these threads. It tested that the N5 had the closest colors to reference out of all the phones they tested. Maybe someone will find the link and post it here. They also tested brightness and contrast.
It was the contest that is scored towards the bottom of all the phones they tested.

Exactly. You can't go comparing Amoled against ISP. There two totally different technologies. When I compare the N5 to other ISP phones mine looks pretty damn good. Like any LCD though I will calibrate it to my taste once the kernels allow for that. This whole thread is literally "in the eye of the beholder."
I've seen 2 different Nexus 5 units here in Canada (at Virgin Mobile kiosks) and in both cases the colors were accurate and very good, though the
whites are a slight bit on the yellowish/warm side. Compared to an iPhone 5S, the whites on the 5S are brighter and cooler.
Well, the good news is that franco kernel is well under development (according to the original nexus development thread) and once it's complete, we should be able to use his app (Display Control) to calibrate the screen if we want to.
Here are a couple of tests run on the N5 and some other flagships and the results. Link pulled from another thread here.

Lol I read the article and wondered why it was written in English but read like the auther was drunk until I saw the web address and saw translate. Good read though, points are easily understood and sum up the comments of most.

i think comparing the Z1 to N5 isnt fair anyway.
So what if the screen on the N5 is technically better? I've used both and...i didnt think the Z1 screen was that bad really. And viewing angles?
How many people use a personal device tilted to the sides? Most people are going to be looking straight at the thing when they're using it, 100% for me, it's a personal device and i'd be rather happy if others couldnt see whats on the screen.
And also "the Xperia Z1, a £450+ phone which only got released recently, and the screen on that is meant to be an improvement on its predecessor the Z1, I feel sorry for the people who bought that O.O"
really.
Feel sorry for the people who bought a very solid and well build phone?
Feel sorry for the people who dont have rattling buttons?
Feel sorry for the people who can happily drop it down a toilet and still have a functioning phone?
Feel sorry for the people who have a camera that's superbly better than the nexus 5?
Well done there mate.

Thinking of buying G Flex - Need some opinions

Hi guys I'm thinking of buying LG G flex and looking for some opinions. Im an Xperia Z user and a very satisfied user. I didnt even think of changing my phone and its been with me for a year but the G flex caught my eyes and the main reason why i wanna buy it is because its different and curved. Here are some things that Im not so sure about so if you can help me with it using your experience then Id be grateful
1- Screen quality - now to be honest, im not a tech expert or someone that will look at the screen very closely to find pixels. Im a normal user, i like watching some videos and web browsing. the g flex has got a lot of criticism on the 720p display so what do you guys think in general? im coming from a 1080p display but i dont think ill have a lot of problems with the 720p display? some reviews i read were horendous that u cant even look at the screen its so bad. i know its not that bad. i just want to know if its a good screen that can show videos and pictures nicely. nothing extra extra sharp. also, im using hp envy x2 which is a tablet and laptop hybrid featuring a 720p display. i love it and dont have any problems against the screen. but i dont know whether 11 inch tablet screens are difff from phone screens and if tablet screens are even better at 720p?
2-screen ghosting. this is another thing ive heard a lot but havent heard anything about it from regular users. is screen ghosting a major issue and does it happen regularly? i plan on using it at 60% or + brightness because the battery is huge so will screen ghosting still be present? and is there a fix? is it a deal breaker?
3 Screen bumps- ive seen videos where users show bumps on their screens which lg admitted as well i think its because of flexing the screen. is bumps a regular issue for you guys? if i get a bump, it there a way to fix it or will it stay forever ?
4- Back- someone told me that the back of the device looks cheap and is uncomfortable?
5 Breaking - this might sound weird but did anyone break their device is the curved and flexible screen and design sensitive and will it break if it drops?
6 -Usable- i havent used a 6 inch phone before so this is a general question of whether the phone seems fine in usage? my xperia z is 5 inches but i dont consider it as big at all but do u guys feel that 6 inches is manageable? i had a blackberry playbook once and it was very big at 7 inches and NOT AT ALL something i couuld use as a phone. so how is the 6 inch phone? is it TOO big? or does it seem fine??
Thanks is advance
1. Screen is good but grainy, but for videos this is one of the best screens I have held, and the battery timings for watching videos is phenomenal. You can watch unto 20 hours of video on this phone not to mention overall battery timings as well.
2. Ghosting is definitely there and can be a problem at start but you get use to it slowly, I am use to it now though it was a bit annoying at start.
3. No bumps so far and I have flexed it quite often.
4. The back of this phone is the most premium thing about this phone, it's great to hold and though it looks slippery but it is quite wonderful to grip and doesn't slip.
5 No certain answer for breaking cus you can break anything you want but the construction of the phone is quite solid.
6. It's a big phone and can be a problem if you have small hands but as you have mentioned that 7 inches tablet is fine for you then this shouldn't be a problem at all.
Bottom line: the best phone if you are a phablet lover and you can't use anything else.

is ghosting there even at high brightness? i think thats pretty bad if ghosting is always there
I've had my flex about a month and I haven't seen any burn in or ghosting. Which from my reading should only happen during the first few weeks of device use if at all. I came from a galaxy s4 and I'll tell ya the screen looks as good as the s4 99% of the time I have noticed the grainy look but only on a few pics. Doesn't always look grainy. I think its just certain colors and maybe pic quality that's my opinion.
As far as breaking. I've dropped mine a couple times and its fine. No cracks the back doesn't feel cheap at all. There's a video of a guy hyper extending the phone probably 15° and it didn't break the screen. The LCD I believe is flexible its the rest of the phone is not. And I think you will only see the bumps in the screen if you try flattening it out or hyper extending it like the guy in the video. Which the bumps appeared from internal parts poking the back of the LCD when bent.
Coming from a very speedy Galaxy S4 to this ....
I'm very pleased. Its faster smoother less lag screen just as good to me but bigger which is a good thing.
I love it. I would recommend and buy another.

Yes but I hardly even notice the ghosting anymore. I did at first. Really only noticeable for me when using stock sms with dark background in sms and going from white to dark when opening messages.

Just like so many others, I have not been bothered in any way with ghosting, graininess, or any of the other non sense you have been reading on the internet; all that crap comes from Samsung fan bois, so ignore it..
sounds like you are a lot like me; you don't micro stare at every little aspect of your cell phone, so you will absolutely LOVE this phone; there is a slight blue hue/graininess at times, but moving the brightness up a bit gets rid of it, if it bothers you; it doesn't bother me one bit!
bumps? never heard of it from ANY of the users here. Obviously some idiot abused his phone somehow, and caused something unusual to happen.
how the hell does the back of a device "look cheap"? sounds like more fanbois stupidity..
I've dropped it a couple of times, with no issues to it, so its not like a fragile china vase..
And, if you are ok with your xperia at 5 inches, you won't have any issues with this one...
I'm happy with mine so far. I've always used high end Samsung service's. Best performance I've ever had on a phone. Imo there is only one phone in this category that is better and it's. The note 3. But I just wanted to give this a try cause... well I played with it in the store and I really liked it. If somebody talks badly about this they are just super particular.

This phone has a "cool factor" that no other phone out now can match....
Coming from a long line of Samsung devices that I've enjoyed very much I took a chance on the Flex about a month back because I like to watch a fair amount of video on my phone and thought it might prove superior for this purpose. A month on I'm not disappointed. I love the screen. I keep the brightness up and haven't been disappointed at all with the quality. I don't miss my Note 3's 1080P. I've had no issues with the phone from bending and such and enjoy the feel of the phone in the hand when texting and making calls. The Flex is very fast and the battery lasts forever. Honestly my only complaint and it is a minor one is that the rear of the phone picks up dust and lint easily, I assume due to the coating. This is not a big deal to me. Overall I would easily purchase this phone again.

I haven't experienced any ghosting issues as yet.
Went from a Note 3 to the flex. Don't miss the Note at all. Really loving this phone, just wish development was more active, ..but after rooting and do a few things. I'm pretty happy with it as is. Great phone. Probably never go back to Samsung again. Their phones have gotten "common" and boring.

Why are you asking us lol? If it was ne i would be asking myself why would i want a phone larger then a 6inch which is the biggest i go s for me heck no i wouldn't trade my flex for no mega, that phone is just over doing it i'm sorry but i don't understand the why over due it as a 6 inch is just the perfect size now you have to ask yourself why do you want the mega not ask us because majority might and will say they wouldn't do it but you have to understand that's us at the end if the day our opinion shouldn't matter if you are interested in the mega so there for if you played with one then you should know what you want to do.

I owned the G Flex for a week before I traded it back in on a Note 3. There were just several things I didn't like about it (screen quality & ghosting issues being the driving factors) that caused me to return it. I do miss the Flex sometimes because I thought the curved screen was a great design, but I do not regret my decision to go with the Note 3 as it's easily the best device I've ever owned.
That said, if you can get past the graininess of the screen and the fact that it's not as sharp as the 1080p screens that are out now, it's a fantastic phone. The battery life is second to none (since the screen is only 720p, it drains the battery much slower than the higher res 1080p screen would), it's very smooth and the curved design fits well in your hand. It also has a huge 6" display. The hardware buttons on the back are also a nice touch. All in all, it was a great attempt by LG to try something a little different. Though I did come from a Note 2, I am by no means a Samsung fanboy. My favorite phone prior to this was my HTC Evo3D. I wanted really bad to love the Flex but in the end, I just didn't feel like the things I did like about it could make up for it's shortcomings and in such, I just couldn't commit to it as my daily driver for the next year.

Being the phone junkie I am one of the things I like most about buying new phones is something different and that's why I got the Flex.
Screen - I look at the 720p Flex screen as a pro because that's why the battery life is so great. It's really nice not having to worry about charging your phone for 24 hrs even with heavy use. I had a G2 before my Flex and I don't miss the 1080 screen. I never watch reviews because most of them the people don't even use the phone for that long plus I like to see for myself. The good thing is you get 14 days.
Screen ghosting - I'm not sure if this is that but when I play QuizUp I see the image for a second or two after it goes away sometimes. It doesn't bother me. That's even when the brightness is maxed. I only turn down the brightness when in bed and the Flex battery makes it around 24 hrs on one charge with heavy use.
Screen Bumps - I'm pretty sure this only happens when you Flex the Flex. Just don't do that any you should be fine. I think it's another thing the LG haters like to talk about.
Back of the phone looks cheap - Ummm nothing looks cheap with the Flex. It's a solid phone. The phone is thin and the back is slippery plus the phone tends to pick up lint more then others. I put on a Otter Box 360 skin to keep the phone thin. Phone isn't slippery and less lint/ fingerprints.
Breaking - Ummm just take care of the phone and you'll be fine.
Size - The Flex is so thin it fits fine in my front jeans pocket but I don't wear skinny jeans. lol The phone doesn't feel big. IMO That's another thing that is subjective.
Here's my 2 cents, this phone is great the screen is a bit grainy, but with brightness turned up you won't notice it. Ghosting does happen but only when switching between apps and only for like 2 seconds then it's fine. My only complaint about this phone is the camera, it takes amazing pictures when out in the sun or in a room with ample lighting, but I went to a concert the other night and took pictures and I had to really play with the settings to get the pictures to be decent. For me I'm disappointed at that and hope that this issue will be addressed with kit Kat update, but seeing as I go to only a few concerts a year it's by no means a deal breaker. Like someone said earlier, you have 14 days to play with it. If it doesn't fit with what you want in a phone then just take it back, but I have a feeling that you won't because this phone is a beast!

hmm i think i really like the g flex now. considering im not someone who will try to compare the phone with 1080p displays, i think it should be a good fit. I use my hp envy x2 tablet/laptop all the time and its also 720p so the sharpness doesn't bother me. For the grainy party, i think i can turn the brightness way up coz of the long battery life someone i know has Note 2 and ive had it in my hands a couple of times and i dont find it bulky or uncomfortable but the g flex is still at 6 inches. do u think if im comfortable with note 2, then g flex shouldn't also be a problem, in terms of handling it etc? as u guys mentioned, ghosting isnt a deal breaker for any of you and it happpens for 1 seconds only so i think i can live with it?
I have had mine for two weeks now.
1. Screen Quality - Its 720 display, if you are coming from an older phone, you won't notice a "lack" of 1080p. Further, the curved screen does work out better for viewing angles. The "grainyness" is not a problem. As noted in many reviews, if you hold the Note 3 and the Flex side by side, you will see a difference, but the quality is not necessarily better.
2. Ghosting not an issue for me. Is it there? Sometimes, is it a problem... no.
3. Screen bumps - As another poster stated, don't do bending tricks with your phone and you won't see these bumps. I haven't seen any yet.
4. Back - Really? Who with a 600 dollar phone doesn't put it immediately in a $50 dollar case? You can't even see the back. That being said, if you carry it bare, it really is very thin with a very well designed back material. It fits very well in your front pocket.
5. Breaking is only an issue if you have an issue breaking phones.
6. Usability is really dependent on the size of your hand. I have smaller hands, so I find myself using it two handed (I bought it for data rather than phone calls), and for phone calls I use bluetooth. The one time I held it to my head, it did feel odd, but not any more odd then a 4.7" phone. I really hate hot glass on my face. You really have to just try it out, I think people can get used to anything if they want to.
any more opinions? or experiences?

G Flex vs G2

I'm coming from an older HTC One X, and I've vowed to get a phone with better battery life.
I've narrowed things down to either the LG G Flex, or the G2.
I'd no doubt go for the Flex, but I use my phone as my main shooter, and the lack of IPS is kind of blah.
Anyone here owned both phones?
How does the stock battery life compare on the two for you? Is the Flex head and shoulders above it?
Do you notice lack of IPS on the flex vs your G2 shots?

i own 2 LG G2 phones and i just got me the G-Flex today.
g flex in my opinion is way smoother so far than the g2. about a month or 2 after i had my g2 i was over it. the screen just seems to shrink on you. i need bigger screens for my big fingers. doing a test of battery at 80% screen brightness right now right out of the box. will run at 80% also after the first charge. i will take screenshots after the first charge and post here.
the g2 on 60% sb i got around 4-4.50 hours. not too bad with 41hrs uptime.
gflex is supposed to be near the 6-8hr mark at full brightness but we'll see about that.
if you go for one of the 2 and dont care of screen size get the flex.

I have owned both, I had the G2 for a few months then switched to the G Flex, I can say that the battery life is a lot better on the G Flex, but for some reason surfing the web kills the batter way quicker than anything else. But I did just get the new kit kat update for it today so I'll have to see if that changed, they did say there was a battery boost as well as a performance boost, so that will have to be checked out.
Honestly I like the full RGB screen on the G Flex, the colors just pop, and pictures are a bit warmer because of the full size red sub-pixel but I like that, makes things more vibrant.
And because the screen is so large I tend to hold it a little further from my face, with the G2 I held it about 6-7 inches from my face, and the G Flex I hold it about a foot or more just because of the screen size, so things blend more.
Also the G Flex seems a bit snappier than the G2, probably because of the screen resolution, you need less processing power to run a lower resolution screen so it really does help.
But in the end they are 2 really great phones and I don't think you will be unhappy with either of them, so happy hunting!
in the end I just wanted the bigger screen of the flex
not regretting it so far thanks for the help guys
Wife and one stepdaughter have the G2's and are great phones, good battery life, awesome screen and the perfect size for a phone.
I went with the Flex due to the size as I am a media Monger and loved the curved aspect. Also wasn't that put off by the 720 screen, which can help attest for the stellar battery life in the Flex. It Truely is amazing!
I will say after a couple months, the size is getting to me. It's barely pocketable as I have a case on all my phones. Also the curve wore off real quick, hardly notice it anymore.
Going to seriously check out the G3 as I really like LG'S software. I am sure it will get good enough battery life and should be much more pocket friendly.
Don't get me wrong, I really like the Flex, just wish it was a little smaller. I say this coming from a N2 as well and makes that phone feel small, lol!
If battery is your main reason and can deal with the size and lower resolution screen, the Flex is for you.

I have never put phones in my pocket if it doesnt have an otterbox or ballistic holster case i usually wont purchase it. I love the g flex way more than my g2. Battery life screen size snappiness, curve, everything about this phone is awesome. If you are selling for te g3 please pm me i am interested
Well, not everyone rocks a belt holster from the 90's
Not selling it, I am on the jump program and would have to sell the phone at basically wholesale, so not worth it for you I am sure. Only had the phone a couple months, heck haven't even made a jump payment on it yet, haha!

Thats true....
Holster clips, even though from my nokia 3390 days, are still more convenient for me than in my pocket. Especially with this phones size.
All i gotta say about this phone is that its friggin awesome. The 720p res. DOes not bother me at all.
A guy was gonna buy my g2 today but flaked out. Its a shame cause its only 4 months old.

Alright, here are some of my thoughts on the phones :
I've had the 6P for about a month. Sending it back actually.
It is taller than the Note, and heavier. The metal feels nice, and the stereo speakers are awesome, not quite as good as a Moto X, but close. The Note's speaker is actually pretty decent as well, it will just be firing off to the side rather than towards you like the Nexus, but its not dramatically worse or anything. Battery life was comparable to what I see from the Note, some days better, some days worse. The UI is blazing fast, more importantly it is consistently fast, without the occasional judders you might see on the Note, especially when scrolling. It is running stock android, well Google's idea of "stock". So there aren't as many features as Samsung likes to put in, no multitasking like the Note, and obviously no s-pen.
The camera is fantastic, especially with HDR+ on, but it really suffers from the lack of OIS in 4K video. In 1080p, it has EIS, which does a decent job. I noticed it tends to capture more light than the Note 5 in low light videos, but it will be a bit more noisy. The Note tends to over expose a bit to get more light in some shots causing some bright lights to be blown out, while the 6P will do a bit better job. However I did notice in most shots, the 6P sort of under expose, and you get an overall dark shot, sometimes it is darker with HDR+. That may be fixed with an update. The Note produces warmer images in my opinion, while the 6P leans toward a slightly cooler temperature. Obviously, the camera app on the 6P is pretty simple and straight forward, but does not offer the many modes and manual controls you find on the Note. Third party apps can help with that. Overall, as far as the camera is concerned, I prefer the Note. It has slightly softer details and warmer colors than the 6P and just looks more pleasing to my eyes, not to mention, the Note is very quick in opening and capturing the images. Double clicking the power button opens the camera, so that works fine.
Front facing camera on the 6P is pretty great. Didn't use it all that much though.
Display is slightly better on the Note, but if you set it to AMOLED photo, it looks pretty much the same as the 6P. A very nice panel on the 6P, really.
I seemed to have slightly better cell reception with the 6P as well on T-Mobile.
Finger print sensor is far quicker and more accurate on the 6P, but it is on the back. Makes it a bit difficult to use when placing the phone face up on a surface. On the other hand, it is really easy to unlock while taking it out of your pocket.
No wireless charging on the 6P, but it does support faster charging speeds with USB C's power profiles (5V @ 3A) and a USB C charger. Usually took about 90 minutes to charge from empty to full.
The Nexus 6P is a fantastic phone, but in the end, I missed the added features of the Note, especially the s-pen. If you really don't care for the extras that Samsung adds and don't really care about super stabilized 4k video recording or manual controls on the camera, etc., then the 6P is great choice. Being a Nexus, you will get timely updates as well. My 6P was already on 6.0.1. If you are keen on trying stock android, this is a good phone to do so.
As for the V10, I had one for about a day, so I can't really say too much about it It's built like a tank. The camera is fantastic like the G4. Removable back and expandable storage always a plus. The second screen is kind of useful I suppose, but I didn't have it long enough to really tell. I really didn't like LG's skin though and it seemed like the dpi was set by default to a value where everything (UI elements, etc.) are just hideously big... You can change the font size, but the UI elements will still stay just as big...
The V10 is basically a beefed up G4. If you loved the G4, you will love the V10.
I traded in my Note 5 for the V10. I have had it about 2 weeks thus far. I can speak freely and say that as far as daily operations with the device, I do like the note 5 much more. The Note 5 is faster, I feel the display looked much better, and I prefer the finger print reader on the front. The non-removable battery and lack of SD card just made me feel like my Note was long no longer a power user's device, just a Samsung iPhone. The V10 as far as operation is more in the Note 4 category, but with a Note 5 camera.

Didn't use it all that much though.

what? like note4?
the note 4 is laggy not smooth at all and gets too hot
lg v10 is like this ****?
Perhaps I just ran a great custom rom on my Note 4, but I didn't have any issues with lag or heat. Not having any issues with those on the v10 either. It's not quite as fluid as the Note 5 to me though.

I had the v10 for a bit, it was nice but has nothing on the Note 5. The 6p is nice, my buddy has it so I play with it all the time. I still think the Note 5 is better. My complaint about the 6p is that the UX is no different that smaller phones, just blown up. Google did nothing to take advantage of the larger screen. The Note 5 is a true phablet, the 6p is just a blown up smartphone. Note 5 all the way.
