Framerates in various 3D games - Asus Transformer TF701

I was wanting to gather some framerate readings from the TF701 in various games, mainly because some of the few games I've tried so far have less-than-stellar framerates. I haven't rooted my TF701 yet, so I can't use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aatt.fpsm&hl=en to get the exact framerates. I was wondering if anyone with root could help out and post some framerates that they get in some of the more popular games, mainly 3D ones. I will estimate the FPS of some games I have installed. It's not the best list of games. I believe my estimations to be pretty close, as I've always been an FPS-whore with FRAPS on my gaming PC's, so I can the difference between 20 fps and 25, or 30, or 45. Past 45 fps, I can't tell much difference. 45 is the magic number for me, but anything close to 30 fps is playable. GTA V is borderline for me since it drops to the lower 20's often, but it's still a fun game.
FYI, my TF701 is on official build 47, the latest firmware.
I want to compare framerates with my wife's Note 10.1 (2014) too, but for now I just have my rooted GalaxyS4 (1080p) with that FPS Meter app to compare with the TF701. The Note would be a better comparison obviously, so I'll try to update this tonight if I can sneak her Note away from her when she's not looking.
Asphalt 8: Airborne Felt like just under 30 fps, maybe down to 20 fps, but it felt like it needed a dead-zone for the gyro because driving straight was not smooth, shaky like the driver is having a seizure. My GS4 pulls 28 - 34 fps in the same tutorial and has the same shakiness to it, though not as noticeable since it's a smaller screen. I don't actually like this game very much tbh.
Block Story I maxed out the graphics with native resolution and it was still playable, probably 25 - 40 fps. I then cut the draw distances in half and it help a little bit, probably 30 - 45 fps. Once again, my GS4 was a little better, pulling 30 - 50 fps with maxed out graphics and no real difference when reducing draw distance to half of max. (FoV at 75, the default).
Dead On Arrival 2 (Tegra-optimized) Full resolution and max graphics quality results in low fps, maybe 20-ish, but on the 2nd-highest resolution setting and full graphics, it's pretty close to 30 fps.
Dead Trigger 2 felt nice, probably 35 - 60 fps in the very beginning of the gameplay and around 30 fps when you kill the first zombie. My GS4 runs Dead Trigger 2 at pretty much 60 fps pegged until you kill the first zombie, where it drops to 48 or 50 fps.
FIFA14 feels like 20 - 25 fps during penalty shooting. My GS4 gets 30 - 34 fps during penalty shooting.
IronMan 3 Ouch. The first sequence is pretty awful, maybe 5 fps, smoothing out a little but the gameplay is still under 15 fps, dropping to 7 or 8 fps when you fly by reflective things like tanker trucks. My GS4 on a different level gets 22 - 30 fps.
Minion Rush I don't really like this game but remembered it didn't run very well on my GS4, so I figured it would be interesting to see it on the TF701. It felt about the same, around 20 fps during gameplay. My GS4 might pull a few more FPS, but it always freezes for half a second every 5 seconds, so it's probably just a poor port of an iPhone game I'm guessing. Also, FPS Meter doesn't work in this game.
The graphics capability seems about on par with the SnapDragon600, but with a penalty from the higher resolution. I know my 3D score of 6500 in AnTuTu is a lot lower than, say, the Note 3 (and other S800-based devices) which gets 9500 at 1080p. The screen resolution might be playing a bigger role than I'd expect here, since 1080p = 2mp and WQXGA = 4mp, pushing twice the pixels is apparently hard to do for mobile GPU's. It feels like the TF701 needs to score 10000 to be able to play games smoothly at 2560x1600.
So naturally I'm a little disappointed. We need 30 fps for a good playable experience, and this tablet just isn't doing that right now. :crying: I may send my TF701 back for a refund, sadly, because a big reason of why I got this is for gaming. As it stands now, I'd rather play most games on my GS4.

I'm disappointed with 3d games as well. The hp slatebook with same processor but slightly lower res screen plays games buttery smooth.

Compared to my TF700T from last year, games for me, are night and day. Especially Dead Trigger 2, MC4, NBA2k13, and Shadowgun Deadzone.

Cool, I'll have to try a couple of those games. Dead Trigger 2 is definitely pretty smooth, though not as smooth as on my GS4 and Note 10.1.
I really wish I could use an on-screen FPS meter without rooting. I have my own Note 10.1 now to do comparisons with. I am loving the Note so far. The screen (color saturation, contrast, and overall brightness) is actually quite a bit better than the TF701's, which surprised me. Sorry, Asus, but I have to send the TF701 back to NewEgg. I could have overlooked a lot of these advantages but not 2D & 3D performance.
Here is a little comparison between the 2 tablets that I just typed up on another website:
TF701 advantages over the Note 10.1:
Price - $150 cheaper for 32GB model
Keyboard dock - The transformer dock is excellent with nothing comparable on other tablets.
Aluminum shell - If you prefer metal over plastic, this is a good thing.
Easy-to-unlock bootloader - The Note 10.1 is rootable but I haven't looked into it yet. Meanwhile, Asus gives you the bootloader unlocking tool, so it's easy as long as you don't mind voiding your warranty. Not really sure if this is such a great advantage honestly.
Note 10.1 advantages over TF701:
Faster 3D graphics - The TF701 is just a hair too slow for most of the games (under 25 fps in many games) I tried while the Note 10.1 is around 40% faster and is just fast enough for most of the games I tried (consistently over 30 fps).
Better Speakers - Stereo speakers > mono speaker. Also, edge-mounted > rear-mounted.
IR blaster - Handy for controlling home theater devices and other stuff.
Smaller & lighter - 45g lighter is less than 10%, but it's still noticeable. The short-edge bezels are about half the width of the TF701's, while the long-edge bezels are about 2/3rds the width.
Screen - It's brighter. Despite gsmarena claiming 755 nits from the TF701 (ASUS Transformer Pad TF701T review: Full throttle - GSMArena.com), it is not quite as bright as the Note 10.1. With the TF701 using "outdoor mode" and set to 50% brightness, the Note 10.1 set to 50% brightness, the Note is WAY brighter. The TF701 is really dim at 50% and below for whatever reason. However, with both set to 100%, the difference is less noticeable, but the Note is still brighter. And the contrast levels are clearly better on the Note. And the Note screen is less reflective. On auto-brightness, the TF701 jumps around in brightness, which wouldn't bother me except it jumps too far and not in a smooth gradual way. Meanwhile, the Note has a smooth brightness change to it. Gorilla Glass 3 vs 2. Better color saturation and black-levels. Sorry TF701, you lost the screen battle handily. Not sure how GSMarena's TF701 was so bright. The one I have doesn't appear to hit 400 nits even.
RAM - 3GB vs 2GB
Camera - The Note snaps better pics than the TF701 in my fluorescently-lit office setting. I didn't take them outside to test. The TF701 pics were really grainy and smudgey, while the Note pics were not nearly as grainy and not smudgey at all. I was using default settings on each tablet, so auto-everything. The Note also takes pics faster when using burst. Plus it has a flash and 8MP versus no flash and 5MP. The MP don't really matter here since the 5MP pics (actually 4MP when doing 16:9) fit the tablet screen perfectly, so 5MP is enough for me.
Haptic feedback - TF701 has none, just like iPad. I miss it when typing especially, but also when gaming.
MicroUSB vs proprietary - I know a microUSB port wouldn't really work for the TF701 because of the docking needs, but they could have put a microUSB port elsewhere on the tablet for convenience. The Note has moved away from the proprietary port in favor of microUSB, which makes it more convenient to charge or transfer files since I have a dozen microUSB cables and chargers placed strategically around the house and in backpacks and whatnot.
S-Pen - Some find this to be a gimmick, but it can be pretty useful.
Multi-window - I know the Asus has some floating widgets that kind of act like multi-window, but it's not quite as useful. Granted, I might never utilize multi-window, but maybe I will.
Availability - The TF701 suddenly showed up on newegg.com and bestbuy.com on Monday this week. Best Buy isn't going to carry any TF701's in-store. Pretty sure Target and other box-stores won't carry it either, so good luck getting your hands on one prior to purchasing. Meanwhile the Note 10.1 is at all the stores. If the TF701 was at a store where I could have tested some 3D games, I would have known about the poor performance and wouldn't be paying restocking fees at newegg. Oh well.

Even on gfx benchmark it scores pretty low. My s4 gets 14 and my note 3 gets 24. Can you guys post your results with t-rex screen on C24Z16. Wondering how widespread it is.

Games
Any tried Dungeon Hunter 4 or Gun Bros 2? These are not playable on my tf700 no matter rom or settings I have tried.
I like my tf700 but most of the newer games are not playable and would like to upgrade. From comments stating laggy
to it works great case doubt on the new asus.

Just downloaded Gun Bros 2. and I must say, it's VERY addictive! It ran super fast and buttery smooth. Thanks for the heads up to add a new game to the repertoire!

If you have another device that can play it, back up the game apk with mybackup app. Then send the backed up app to your Gmail. Download it on the tf701 and install.
If you wanna know where the back up is stored, go to options in mybackup.
If history repeats itself, you may have to do this quite often as some games aren't compatible with asus series till later.

I feel like the Note 10.1 is the closest competition to the TF701, and I happen to have both in my possession right now so I'll post some screenshots from the Note with FPS Meter showing the FPS. Maybe someone with a rooted TF701 can post comparison screenshots. I basically just played the game for at least 1 minute to get an accurate reading for "avg fps".
Click thumbnail to go to the images page, then click zoom twice to see the full 2560x1600 image. The FPS Meter text is set to top-center and is visible in all the screenshots.
These results are from the Note 10.1 (2014) on rooted build P600. I want to see comparison screenshots from those of you with rooted TF701's.
GFXbench (14 fps, 770 frames):
Dead On Arrival 2 (23 fps @ max resolution and max graphics quality [this is the first TegraZone game I tried on the TF701 and at max settings it was unplayable, felt like maybe 10 fps, so I'd like to see actual FPS from someone on this "Tegra-optimized" game]):
Death Dome (50 fps)
Despicable Me (30 fps) [this game sucks and takes forever to load and you have to wait for a long video]:
FIFA14 (32 fps)
GTA III (42fps with 75% draw distance & resolution, visual effects = high, and dynamic shadows = on)
GTA:VC (45 fps with 100% draw distance & resolution, visual effects = high, dynamic shadows = on)
Ironman 3 (31 fps):
Minecraft PE (51 fps on max settings):
Modern Combat 4 (37 fps):
NFL Pro 2013 (30 fps):
Plants vs Zombies 2 (21 fps @ map, 60 fps during gameplay of first level):
Real Soccer 13 (40 fps):
Reckless Racing (31 fps):
Riptide GP (56 fps):
ShadowGun (32fps):
Shine Runner (51 fps):
Six Guns (29 fps):
Temple Run 2 (60 fps):
EDIT: Adding more benchmark results from the Note.....still waiting for some TF701 screenshots from rooted users
AnTuTu Open GL ES 2.0 benchmark (4377):
AnTuTu Open GL ES 3.0 benchmark (10824) I am curious about this one since Tegra4 doesn't fully support ES3.0 and since the TF701 just got Android 4.3 with ES3.0 support:
Base Mark:
Ice Storm lite (maxed out):
Ice Storm Extreme (8866):
GFXBench 2.7.2 (more results of various tests like Egypt HD, fill rate, onscreen vs offscreen, etc):
A1 SD Bench (set to "longer testing", using Samsung UHS-1 70/20-mb/sec microSD):

I made a video showing some game performance: Click here!
The MOGA Pro controller makes it a very good gaming platform in my opinion!
If you want to see some more games in action please ask in video comments.

I'm still seeing slight lower frame rate in dead trigger and ravensword. But not bad.

Could be caused by compression algorithms on the video. In real life it looks more fluent.

Well I sold that Note tablet and eventually got an iPad Air 2 and jailbroke it. Got bored with it and sold it to my mom so I could avoid seeing her low res iPad2 photos, haha. I realized I don't really use a 10" tablet. I am content with my rooted S6 and unrooted Note5. If I want to use a larger device, I pull out my ThinkPad W530. My wife is waiting for a Samsung 12"+ tablet that isn't the 2013-era Note Pro or Tab Pro. Waiting for something like a Tab S2 Pro...or try the iPad Pro even though she hates iPads. Anyway, I see no one posted any T701 framerates, but I know that soc couldn't handle games at 2560x1600. Oh well!

Good HDTV?

My father's looking to buy an HDTV and I have no clue to help him so we both don't really know what to buy.
We have a 0-1400$ budget (Canadian dollar) for a 42" display. (0 would be an acceptable price)
Here are my question:
-I'll occasionnaly play Xbox 360 on it (not much tho, I got my 15" for that )
-We don't have any HD stuff right now
-He wishes to plug his laptop on it
-What else do we need to watch for?
Well you need to think about if you want plasma or LCD. I just bought a 47 inch LCD 1080p HDTV and love it.
Since you dont have any HD products except the xbox 360 you should look for something that does 720p which also will be in your budget. I would go with LCD and look for a 5 ms refresh rate or lower. I got a LG, it stood out in the store so much and I love it!
He wants 1080p, 42 inches and quality.
I tried explaining him about 720p, but he wants 1080p. I guess the only thing we really need is quality and something to plug his computer on it (either laptop just for fun or desktop as a media station).
If you are going to use it as a PC monitor, then LCD is the only choice to consider. I was shopping for a new monitor to augment my PC's dinky 17" at Fry's, and some how I ended up with this:

It is a 40" 720p on sale for $999. I was told that 1080p is great, but there isn't enough 1080 content available to justify it. Also remember this, up close flat screen TVs look like crap. The bigger you go, the farther back you need to be from it to view it.
lcd vs. plasma
plasma have burn in which is bad if it happens there is nothing one can do
plasma give a imho better image colour and contrast
but also use alot more power then lcd
personaly i'm contemplating getting this one

When I was at Best Buy looking at HDTV's for about 2 hours I would say LCD's looks MUCH better then plasmas especially with high action programs.
OP, if you want a true 1080p TV you better bump up your weak budget if you want a decent TV
Don't forget about DLP.
I know there are a lot of people who say no, but if you truly compare and shop around it gives you the most bang for the buck and you can hook up you computer, xbox and laptop to it. I have a Samsung and it gives a great picture running 1080i and it is 1080p capable.
Tigerdirect.com has some great prices on new HDTV's. I have had a very positive experience working with them. Best Buy and Circuit City will sell you the world when you are there and then they don't honor 3/4 of what they sold you (in terms of price plans and warrrantees). In most cases, the manufacturers(sp?) warranty will cover what you need it to and will even send someone out to work on the tv locally.
That said, I would include DLP in your search because it definitely fits your price range. DLP are only like 12-16 inches thick in their largest spot. If you're buying a big screen, its definitely going to be a prominant piece of furniture in the room so whats a foot off the wall vs. 3 inches....
I sell these things for a living so I think I may be of some help to you.
From the things that you are wanting to do, I think DLP would be the best choice for you.
They make excellent computer monitors. I have a PC hooked up to mine at home and it looks fantastic.
The response time is extremely fast. Much better than what LCD can offer. This will help alot when watching sports, racing or playing video games. Video games on LCD TV's often look blurry when there is a lot of action going on-screen. The only downfall to DLP is that it has a bulb that you must replace every 3 or 4 years. The bulbs pricing will range anywhere from 3-400 dollars depending on the set. Beware of the new Samsung DLP's. They have a bowing problem that I have seen with almost every one I have sold. Because of that, I have switched to Mitsubishi and they are performing really well.
If you must go flat panel, you are pretty much stuck with LCD. If you use a plasma, he could suffer burn in with a static image from his laptop. LCD's have a very long lifespan, but have unnatural colors and lower contrast than DLP's and Plasmas. They are also the slowest of all of the technologies. If you do go LCD, beware of the cheapies. They may look great in the store, but they are a lower quality panel, and will not last as long. Many people who have bought Vizios are finding out now that very thing. Look at Toshiba, Samsung or Panasonic.
PM me if you have any questions.

LCD's are overly bright. They look the best on a showroom floor because of the bright, vivid colors.
When I look for a tv, I look for the one with the most true to life picture.
In ranking pictures of TV's as far as realism goes, the best is plasma, followed by DLP, then LCD.

I got that with the black bezel and it's beautiful. Very good picture. 1080i and 720p, though, no 1080p.
Back in March I purchased a Sony Bravia V-Series KDL-46V2500 46inch LCD TV and never looked back. I found his 26inch little brother for my bedroom.
xbox 360, DVD Movies HDTV all look brilliant on both of them. I've never experienced any blur effect with our xbox and there is a lot happeneing in Halo 3.

that sucks
With my 47 inch 1080p LCD I am experiencing a little lag, not blur. Its pretty annoying when your trying to play because when the controls are of 4-5 ms it does change how you play. No fun right now
What do you have your xbox set to output the HD at?
I've used both 480 & 720, saw no real diff so I left it at 480 everythings blazing fast.
I think the blur problem is the xbox not the LCD TVs.

Try stepping the HD output down to 480 and see if you still have the lag issue.

Hi guys.
What is the difference betwean FULL HD and HDready?
Best HDTV
I have Olevia. Was middle priced but runs like the pro's.
Typically HD ready means that the TV doesn't include an off-air HD tuner inside. You would need a seperate tuner to receive local HD channels. Full HD means that the TV supports 1080p.

[GAMES] HTC Butterfly s gaming thread

Post all gaming discussion here.
Currently I have mostly runner games (Temple Run, Minion Rush, Robot Unicorn Attack 2), PBA Bowling Challenge, Real Racing 3 and Fast & Furious 6 but I usually just play the runner games. Unfortunately RR3 does not run in 1080p but at a rather low resolution; I hope EA fixes this soon. FIFA 14 works though there are some occasional issues with the loading screen in the beginning (sometimes the app crashes or the whole system hangs and I must do a reset)
What games would you recommend for the HTC Butterfly s? For me I would prefer free games.

Here is my list what I've played on Butterfly S (all tested and fully working):
Contre Jour, Rayman Jungle Run (prefer this runner over all others), Townsmen, Anomaly Korea, Minion Rush, Iesabel, Aralon, Wild Blood, Dungeon Hunter 4, Bard's Tale, Angry Birds (although Angry Birds support FullHD, I'd rather play in HD - icons are too small).
Don't know what games are free, as I download them from 4pda site.
I have found a temporary fix for Real Racing 3's low resolution issue using Ultimate Rotation Control, a similar fix was found for the new Nexus 7 by another user (the only difference is that for the Butterfly s it must be set to "forced auto").
Install "Ultimate Rotation Control", and set it to "forced auto", then run the game holding your phone vertical position on the loading screen (it will hang) before rotating it. Enjoy! There doesn't seem to be any anti-aliasing, but it runs at a much higher resolution
It's rather tedious because Sense 5 UI does not properly support landscape mode and you may also accidentally rotate the phone back to portrait mode, but you can briefly go back to the home screen and change the Ultimate Rotation Control on your status bar to "auto" and quickly get back to your game.

Another note: Does anyone here play Blitz Brigade? It always crashes on the title screen on mine =/ On Play Store I see one reviewer who gave the game a good review so that suggests it might work on some devices...
I can confirm that Asphalt 8 is now officially supported on the Butterfly s, but like Real Racing 3, it does not seem to run at the full 1080p, but it doesn't look that bad (for RR3 I tried fiddling with the settings but it always looked low res, yet it still lags).
However I am having some touch input problems especially with the top side of the phone (the left side if you rotate it to horizontal position). Maybe it's because I have a screen protector that is not oleophobic and sweat registers a touch input, but I've seen other users complain of this problem too (see the PhoneDog comparison with HTC One)
GT Racing 2 runs fine and renders in 1080p.
The lack of 1080p rendering is not uncommon with newly released games on some devices also GS4 and Nexus 7 but I think HTC may need to do something about it.
Unfortunately the ultimate rotation control app only works for seven days and I can't find another app with the "force rotate" option.

The lack of 1080p rendering is not uncommon with newly released games on some devices also GS4 and Nexus 7 but I think HTC may need to do something about it.
Unfortunately the ultimate rotation control app only works for seven days and I can't find another app with the "force rotate" option.

nope, RR3 needs a Force Rotation option.
I think the low-resolution rendering of some games has to do with the lack of support for OpenGL ES 3.0... I really hope we get an update soon... =/
It seems they're focusing on the One line and not so much on the Butterfly s but I think our chances are faster than Droid DNA/Butterfly because our device is newer, and it's an unlocked device unlike the DNA.

UMI ZERO: Review
The UMI ZERO is currently one of the most Anticipated smartphones from China. The last two months it has been hyped on the Internet and on a lot of channels, and with the UMI ZERO, UMI wanted to start on a new era and create something new. The UMI ZERO comes with top specifications like Super AMOLED display, Double-sided Gorilla Glass 3, Rapid Charging, 2GB RAM, Camera with aperture f/1.8, the MTK6592 Turbo CPU and is only 6.4MM thin. So in terms of hardware the UMI ZERO is in front, but how will it do in real life?
I have now tested the UMI ZERO for about 1 week to see how the performance is. Note, that the UMI ZERO that I tested is a demo unit with beta software (UMI.V3.01), so the final version could be even better once the firmware is better optimized.
First impressions
When I received the UMI ZERO, the first thing I noticed was the amazing big box and packaging that the phone comes in. It was not just a boring standard box, but a box with a really nice sharply design which fits the ZERO perfectly. In the past I have seen similar on other phones from Xiaomi and OnePlus One.
The first thing I saw when I opened up the box was a big silver Z. At first glance it looked like metal, but it turned out to be some kind of case that you can use to protect the UMI ZERO.
Design & look
The phone itself feels really premium. It is totally made of metal & glass and kind of heavy (in the good way) in the hand, there are no real plastic parts on the phone, and the metal "superbody" together with the double-sided Gorilla Glass III glass makes it feel really high-end and expensive. Some could be a little anxious about the double-sided glass, as it probably would not survive a drop from a higher distance. When the screen is turned off, the phone looks totally black - it has this kind of "Stealth-Look" to it, that makes it look cool and mysterious.
The screen with 1920x1080 pixels on the UMI ZERO is providing a sharp colorful picture, and black is really deeply black and will not use any power. So it is easy to see that it is using an original full hd Samsung Super AMOLED screen. While I tested the phone it was a pleasure to use the screen and both text and graphics were always really good to read/watch.
Unfortunately, the UMI ZERO has no notification LED. And when you receive a SMS, or you have a missed call. You are not able to see that in any way. I would have liked a notification LED in the top of the phone, or maybe a solution where the touch buttons would flash to notify you. Also the touch buttons could be a little brighter in my opinion. UPDATE: You can use the 3 touch buttons light as a notification! with the app called "LG Touch LED Notifications" it just requires ROOT and works great on the ZERO.
ROM & UI (UMIZERO.V3.01)
The UMI ZERO comes with a ROM based on 4.4.2 KitKat, the UI looks very stock (like Vanilla Android) with only small optimizations and changes made by UMI. Inside the settings I also found a Powersaving & Extreme Powersaving mode and the brightness control support "economic brightness" that should save some battery. I did not find any features like Off-screen gestures or double tap to wake, that many other China phones today offers but I believe that the final UMI ZERO ROM will have more features, and that the limited features on mine is because of the beta ROM.
Performance
Inside the UMI ZERO we find the MTK6592T Octa Core chip-set, where T stands for "Turbo". Normal Octa Core phones run with 1.7Ghz, while the Turbo version runs with whole 2.0Ghz. While I used the phone, it was very smooth in the UI and the overall performance was good. Regarding 3D gaming, it also performed really good, and games like Modern Combat 5 ran smooth with the highest graphic settings without any lag. In Antutu 5.1 the UMI ZERO scored 31200 points which is significant better than on other standard Octa Core phones.
The 13 mega-pixel camera (20 mega-pixel interpolated) provides some nice pictures, most pictures I shot with the UMI ZERO were sharp, with good contrast/colors and with minimal noise or blur. The auto-focus is fast and precise. I would definitely say that the camera is above the normal standard that we find on many other china phones.
The GPS is really fast on the UMI ZERO when your outside and have an open sky. It only takes some few seconds to get locked on the satellites. I found that the Voice & WiFi reception is pretty standard, not really better or worse than on other phones.
Sound quality
I was pleasantly surprised by the good sound-quality (from the ear-piece) when I spoke with people using the UMI ZERO. The sound is very loud and clear, and it is easy to hear the part in the other end. Regarding the speaker on the back, it was also good and loud and perfect for gaming, but when the phone was laying top-down on a table, the back-speaker would be a little blocked and the sound would because of that, then be a little lower.
Battery
During my test with the UMI ZERO, I only experienced good battery-life. Inside it has a 2780mAh mah and it can easily last a whole day or more with normal usage. And with the Extreme Powersaving mode enabled I am sure it can last even longer. The Rapid Charger feature is also a very nice thing, and is possible because the charger is on 2,4A. You could say that the rule is, that the charging time up to 80% is about 1 minute for 1%, so 20 minutes would charge the phone about 20%.
Verdict
If you are looking for a stylish phone made of high-end materials and with some good specifications, and the price is no problem. Then the UMI ZERO would be a very good choice. In my opinion, the UMI ZERO delivers good performance & build-quality above the normal standard on the market and really worth the extra money.

Yes ZERO adopts Samsung's Super-AMOLED. The display is a AMOLED display with an integrated touch function. It has a touch-sensor (on-cell) over the display. Compared with a conventional screen, it is 1.2mm thinner. Self-luminous also means 10% lower consumption. High static contrast ratio and high transparency also makes the color brighter and crisper - with an 178°wide visible angle.
Very good mobile phone, hope the price is not too expensive.
After a long time of waiting. UMI has now released the official specifications for UMI ZERO (source UMI).
What we can see from this, is that the UMI ZERO will be a true high-end smartphone with a lot of power, a big battery and a really good screen.
To your information, I just saw this on UMIs page.
UMI is also now giving away a free UMI Zero to 1 fan.

Yes but I think then the price would have been too high also. Under normal circumstances 2GB should be enough. 4G would have been nice, but not all places you can even use 4G LTE yet.

Post #1 is now also updated with my unboxing video. So far the device is stunning, camera seems also to be very nice, sharp pictures. But need to test it some days before I can say more about it.

Yes the price is high, but it is because the phone is made all in metal and glass. There are almost no plastic parts on this phone. So the materials are of high quality. So far I am impressed with the camera, it is clearly much better than on many other Chinese phones I have tried. Also the screen is a joy to look at with the Super AMOLED FHD. Unfortunately, The phone doesn't support OTG, according to UMI it is because of the fast charging technology that the phone uses via the micro USB port, they could not combine it with OTG.
Who needs a quick recharge on just 27380mah battery? I was considering this but without otg I'll look at a better and complete phone else where!
Great unboxing video!
Would it be possible for you to post some sample pictures taken with the camera?
Also - does it have a separate LED for notifications, or it uses the bottom buttons? If it's the buttons, then I assume it doesn't allow any customization in color or pulsing?
Thank you!

Thanks I have added some camera samples now to post #1. Unfortunately there is no LED for notications or in the buttons. But they may make something for the buttons if it is possible, UMI are still working on the software, it is not final yet.
The pictures look good. Although the ones with the helicopter - are the colors correct? Aren't they actually more saturated?
The buttons don't even light up when you have a missed call or a message?

My lamps in the ceiling, are spots with cold temperature light, I think that's why the helicopter looks like that. With warm light or normal daylight it would have been more colourful. As told, my phone is currently using a beta software - and it has no kind of notifications after a call or sms, so I think they will release a much better software/ROM in the final version with this, let's hope so.
The quick-charge function is really as good as advertised?
I'm looking for a new phone, and my main concerns are the camera and good GPS.
GPS on mediatek devices are usually.. Well.. Not that good How about this one?
Re
OP, have you tried rooting the umi zero and whats the application memory size?

I see no difference in Gaming (from the Note 2 to Note 4)

Was testing Asphalt 8 today, and noticed that gameplay was more or less the same as it was in the Note 2. Seems like we're reaching a plateau in the world of mobile technology.

Isn't Asphalt 8 locked at 30fps?
Anyway, youve got all those extra pixels to render with the Note 4,it will stress the CPU/GPU more. I believe Annandtechs tests showed that running the S805 with a 2k screen gave similar performance to running the S800 with a 1080screen.
I forgot to think from that perspective. Seems like the game is locked at 30fps. I really see no use of those extra pixels and thus unnecessary battery drain though I've achieved over 3 days with the standard battery.

There's only going to be more pixels, wait for 4k phones at the end of this year!
4K on a small screen is crippling when think in terms of battery drain. Wonder what the future of battery technology will bring to the table.

I feel you. I've also upgraded from note 2 (which is now with my wife). Really, other than a better scree/ pixel density, I don't see much in the Note 4. May thinner profile/ better build quality. I still feel that the camera is downgraded (except for the fact that the note 4 has better control over spherical aberration). I really miss the macro mode in the note 4. Gaming, as you already mentioned, isn't any different.
I see the camera at fault as well. Not defective, but in low-light, tends to get grainy without the flash. Perhaps I haven't taken enough low-light pictures w/o flash with my Note 2 to notice this. For outdoors, the HDR modes works great with the Note 4; I do like the ability to enhance the photo, edit, and get creative. Software, there are some things I miss, especially Quick Glance, and features in the Galaxy S4, which I never got to experience, not that those software features are gimmicky.

You may need to get your eyes checked lol massive difference
Asphalt 8 is not locked at 30fps, the note 4 Exynos during game gives around 60fps while Snapdragon 45fps.
The Note 3 Snapdragon is around 30fps.
You can test the FPS whit the app "Gamebench". It needs root.

LOL. :silly: I was just basing this on various articles I came across on Google, can't confirm real world value, unless I perform the diagnostics. Though Antutu does mention my overall score to be 49,888. My Note 2 only reached 18,000. Seems odd that the real world performance difference is subtle. Forget gaming, my Note 4 does feel a lot smoother and I can keep more apps running in the background compared to the Note 2.

dude Note 2 with mali 400 can play almost every game around 30fps @720p but Note driving x4 the amount of pixels which needs a lot of power + adreno drivers sucks and games always run better on non adreno GPUs like mali , Powervr
anyway i don't think any android game support 1440p or even 1080p natively they are just get up scaled i think which is just wasting of gpu/cpu power if android allows user to change the res of the game like windows that would be great

That's why I miss the Mali / Exynos combination. Hopefully, my next Galaxy device will feature this.

note going 120hz

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LzC_kkbFTHQ
just came out today,? is will their be a mod to put note 8 120hz or im i going to hear the magic words ...no its hardware thing?
Um ... why , 2k screen at a 120hz would take some power. Plus with small size really wouldn't be worth it. High fps really only matters in shooters on pc. On a phone there are too many weak links to make it good for games that would call for 120hz..

Hz (refresh) is not the same as fps (framerate)...
And higher refresh rate actually makes everything smoother, including simple animations, etc. For example, I have a three monitor setup (2 x 60hz, 1 x 144hz), and you can easily see the difference just by moving the mouse cursor. Much smoother and easier on the eyes.
Razer includes a 4000mah battery...if Samsung bumps up the Note's battery capacity again in the future (and/or introduces further OS optimization for increased efficiency) then it could mitigate any additional draw in power. Personally, I think a Note 9 or 10 with faster refresh would be sweet

Yes it can be done, the Razer just did it. Not likely on the Note 8 though, but can't really say for sure. I do know that the refresh rates of some monitors can be overclocked, but it only works up to a certain point (much like ram or processors). So even if it were possible to increase refresh on the Note 8, I don't think it would be anywhere the Razer's 120hz. Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong though.

Just found this article which explains a lot:
https://www.androidauthority.com/120hz-displays-the-future-or-just-a-gimmick-782717/
Sounds like the refresh rate on the Note 8 could theoretically be increased through software alone, but that it would likely introduce issues such as screen tearing, etc. In contrast, the Razer's panel (for example) has hardware technology to reduce or eliminate these types of artifacts. So I'd say yes it could techically be done on the Note 8 to some degree, but even then the results wouldn't be great. Better to have the hardware that makes it work right and delivers the desired/expected visual experience.
OLED is not able to do those high refresh rates yet.... Its hardware
Even if you got it to work it would absolutely kill the battery and if/any games even are optimized for 120 hz is another story.

You can see the difference if you have the video/game that uses it otherwise it's number theater . I would venture most folks couldn't tell between 60 and 144 unless it was in action. 24 to 60 yes, but beyond 60 is splitting hairs. Also on the small form factor of a phone, with the control latency of a phone not sure tour getting bang for buck . I am aware that Hz and fps are different ,just as I am aware that using different refresh rates in a triple monitor set up is just asking for problems as well. To me it's just the same as THX speakers on a phone or Dolby Atmos on a phone, yes they're there but it's more like a gimmick because of the small form factor. I am also biased towards pc gaming , and could not imagine playing any serious shooter on a phone, just like I couldn't do it on a console either(but at least consoles have the horsepower now).
My biggest fear is this catches on and Samsung ditches it's Amoled displays for LCD just to get the specs for the next phone.
Sent from my Galaxy Note8 using XDA Labs
No as I said you can see the difference just moving a mouse (or watching movies, etc). Also, no issues at all in a triple monitor setup with different refresh rates, so long as you know what you're doing. Obviously if you try and play a game on 3 monitors at once with different rates then you're asking for trouble lol. Anyways, moot point now as OP's question has been answered.
Animation in android
Can the animations and UI in android currently even run at 120? Are they not rendered at or around 60fps?

I wouldn't put too much credit in this article. They seem to be sort of talking out of their asses on this.
Adaptive display technologies reduce screen tearing yes, but their main benefit is the reduction of resources. Allow me to explain.
Your free to correct me if I'm wrong but this is my full understanding.
When a screen displays an image it has to get told to display an image. However, it's not quite as simple as the CPU saying, please display an image.
The screen will continue to display an image until it's told to Change to a new one (think of when your PC freezes. This is why the image can sometimes freeze. The display adapter has stopped sending new images to the monitor).
So what happens when your computer is creating a new image, 1000x a second? Well, it would tell the display to "display" 1000 images in a single second, even though it's only capable of let's say 60 (this is where 60hzcomes from) this creates the tearing effect. To combat this there are controls we can use, Such as vertical sync, where we can just Pull an image from that 1000 image pool when we want to display a new image. For example, your phone might tell android, since it is running at 60hz to just pull a new image from that pool once every second. We could also limit the software to only create a new image once every second as well to combat this. The problem with these is they require CPU cycles. And they have an impact on the memory, with the frame buffer holding that 1000 count image pool. Ideally went want the CPU to only worry about creating an image when we 'want' one. So that it can move on to the next process in it's Queue.
With adaptive display technology, we can 'sync' these two numbers without creating a significant performance impact, and because we have synced them the overall smooth transitions require less motion smoothing, or blur effects that alot of movies might use to help create that clean look (This magic is why movies at 24fps look fluid). When it comes to Android, 120hz vs 60hz would most definitely be noticeable, so long as UI transitions and the OS itself had animations that could display 120 different frames. Currently I think that it does not. Also, let's be honest, until the hardware starts supporting it, android won't support it. We are starting to see that support now, in the Razer phone and in some Sony phones.
I am unsure of the currently refresh limits of OLED. I do know however that OLEDs response time is faster than that of LCD. Response time doesn't directly effect refresh rate, That would be the job of the display controller, or whatever that strip is called haha. Response time is important though as it'll determine the quality of the images being displayed at higher refresh rates. Which would be the significant factor in whether you would want your display running at 120hz or simply 60hz
Also... Before anyone chimes in, with "you can't see more than 60 frames per second" your wrong. Don't bother. Sorry, but you've done zero research.

So samsung Note 8 runs on 60 GHz?
And razer runs on 120 GHz
