Galaxy Gear Phone Anti-Theft - Samsung Galaxy Gear

How cool is that..
Samsung have inadvertently build in an anti-theft device in the Galaxy gear for your Phone...
How... Just leave your phone in another room and start to walk away from it... Voila... Gear vibrates to say it has lost connection.

well, that doesn't stop the thief from stealing your phone, does it?

Yes it could stop the thief if you realize you left your phone behind and retrieve it before the thief. I was thinking same thing. Not a long range on that Bluetooth. Actually wish it had a hair longer range. Can't go upstairs with watch if phone charging downstairs. Would kind of defeat the anti theft feature...heh.

Post your Epic Fail here...

After a long day at work, I was looking forward to coming home, kicking off my shoes, and relaxing in my massage recliner to watch some TV. That was the plan, anyway...
I fall into my recliner and kick off my right shoe, only to see (what seemed like slow motion), my shoe fly across the room and slam into the bottom left-hand corner of my recently purchased 52" Sharp Aquos Quattron LED LCD TV. See pic below...
My wife witnessed this epic fail, and has aptly nicknamed this blunder "shoe fly".
I'm still crying...

For those using Siyah Kernel with this method, please note that CWM recovery will be replaced by Siyah's recovery. As a result, any back ups that were originally created with CWM will not work using Siyah's recovery. (at least for me, they didnt). The restore process will complete, but your phone will get stuck on the boot screen.
The way I was able to remedy this, was to perform a full wipe, then perform a fresh install of your ROM, reboot, install CWM through ROM manager. Once that is complete, go back into CWM recovery and restore your original backup. Once that is finished, reboot your device and perforn the "remove triangle" fix, then reboot into Siyah's recovery and create a new back up. It's a bit of a process, but worth it if you prefer Siyah Kernel over Entropy Kernel.

Do not use Rom Manager it can really mess things up, I am glad your device still works but you have to read a bit more before you go doing crazy things.

I appreciate the response but I'm not a noob. I've been at this for years. I've always used ROM manager without a single issue. There was no mistake made on my part. I.posted that to provide assistance to the noobs who may get stuck in this situation.

This doesn't even begin to compare to the Shoe Fly blunder (that poor, poor piece of technology), but my most recent epic fail was a few days ago on my way home from work.
It was about 650am on a Saturday, roads virtually empty (I live in a small town), still dark outside. I was cruising along about 20 over the speed limit as usual and see a car pull out in my lane ahead of me. Not realizing it was a cop, I quickly switched lanes and flew past him. Needless to say, he immediately pulled me over.
The story has a happy ending though. Despite doing 58 in a 40 and not wearing a seat belt, he let me go without even giving me a warning. Turns out he was just getting off work too and didn't feel like writing any tickets.
Haha that's a win not a fail

The getting away with it was a win, yeah. Still felt pretty stupid passing by a cop that fast lol.

If that's a fail, please send some of your luck my way!!
Your story reminds me of the time I was sitting at a red light, when a bunch of hot girls in a convertible pulled up to the lane next to me. I was young and stupid at the time, (18) so I decided to "impress" those hotties by stepping on the brakes and spinning my tires. Smoke was everywhere; it was quite a show. What I didn't notice was the under cover cop right behind me. Needless to say, when the light turned green, he pulled me over. The cop was pissed because his car was filled with smoke from my tires. LMFAO. I got a pretty stiff fine for my little stunt. But that wasn't the epic fail. It was seeing those girls laughing at me, knowing that cop was behind me the entire time!! Pwned....

"Is that a tablet?"...

Probably the beginning of such questions that I will encounter while using the note in public. Lol.
I was at Office Max today and while waiting for my turn I was playing on my phone. The girl next to me, which by the way is a Radio Shack employee working at the phone kiosk ask if the gadget is was holding was a tablet. Lol.
I was more than happy to show it to her and explain that it was indeed a phone. She end up calling the rest of the crew to show off my phone. Well that felt good.
Anyway, just like thought I share.

You didn't have to prove it? I've had co-workers insist that I make a call before they'd believe it was actually a phone.
There is one drawback to it, however: It's somehow disturbing when your taking notes on the Note and the thing starts to vibrate because of an incoming call.

The flash of envy i see on the apple zombies after realizing their puny phone easily fits in the screen on mine and then asking if the note really is a phone only to then realize their mistake that they must carry the buyers remorse for 2 full years waiting for their next upgrade. I go through this everyday about 20 times a day for every customer, they always ask "thats a phone?!?!" and let me tell you, be proud of your phone. Apparently it's the same story everywhere
Last friday a coworker saw me using my GNote and asked me about it, put out his Galaxy S and let out a "whow!" when he compared the sizes. Then a few other stopped by and I had to demonstrate the neat capabilities (stylus and all) to everyone.
This "phablet" is really amazing, even if it does not last long without plugging (I'm quite a heavy user!)

It's really surprising that people still think any of these anti-theft tracking apps can do anything against the thieves. It's highly unlikely that you can pin-point the person who stole it with your phone's GPS/wifi/cell signal and moreover, he doesn't have to show you anything in his pocket or backpack. Yes even if you call the cops, they can't search the person unless they have the warrant.
@OP i'm sorry that you lost your phone. I hope you have the insurance.

I'm assuming you already called the police? I would have told them the nexus 7 was stolen, shown them the box/receipt and told them I have tracking software installed so I would be contacting them again when I receive the signal. Maybe with all that info the cops would be much more willing to cooperate or at least let you know what your options are.

Interesting that it's taking them long to show up to a home invasion. I guess since the criminal is believed gone, you're probably last on the priority list.

Not really. Hell, I installed Life360 on my wife's phone (she wanted to see if the creepy guy next door is a sex offender) and it showed her phone's location right down to the house number. So, could you find the perp in a crowd...no, but if the dummy fires it up at his job or home, of course you could track it. Cerberus also seems to install into the devices image, so a factory reset won't wipe it out. So unless the thief is really knowledgeable, there is a good chance he could find the thief if he had Cerberus. I know I'm getting it. Just bought a Galaxy S II for the wife and a Galaxy Nexus for myself...plus the N7 of course.

Apart from log their IP address giving the police a location and take a picture of the thief's face.
That's reasonable suspicion (probable cause) that the stolen device is at a given location which is grounds for a search.
Apart from that, you're right, these anti-theft tracking apps can't do anything
Can't stand liars or thieves... with them gone. We won't have to worry about anti theft apps

So my Nexus 7 just got stolen from my car

I went to a job site (a car dealership) and left it in the drivers seat. It was raining and I'm guessing that with my tools and boxes, that I forgot to lock it with the remote or it did not lock. I didn't notice it missing until I went to my second job and went to hide it (which I normally do). I didn't hide it at the dealership because I was only planning on being there 20 minutes that turned into 2 hours.
I looked everywhere, being in denial, but I distinctly remember putting it in my car because it was raining and I had to conceal it while I ran out to my car.
Kinda sucks. Not only because I'll have to buy another one (I just bought one from Walmart so I can exchange it when the 32gb comes out), but also because I had a $20 case on it and an SGP Matte SP. I blame the iPad Mini. Thats probably what they thought it was!
I know there are plenty of threads about Anti-theft stuff but I'm kinda in a rush to push something to it from the play store. Ceribus or something rings a bell. Any suggestions?
I just installed Cerebus but I don't think it'll work without prior setup. I downloaded Plan B but I'm not sure it'll work either because it mentions it will only try to locate within the first 10 minutes.
Unfortunately I don't think there's anything that will provide any security without prior setup. Everything I've seen needs to be configured.
Lookout plan b... its on the market. You can push it to your device from the market website
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Yea I pushed Plan B. It went missing some time between 3:30pm and 5:30pm. I noticed it gone about 6pm. After driving back to my office to check my desk, back home, walmart, and home, it is now 11pm.
If I'd stolen a device, it would have been factory defaulted the instance I had a second to do it.
I'm in pretty good with the staff at the Dealership. My gf also works for the same group (different property though). She said they have security cameras all over. I'll get them to look at the tapes and see who it was.
Feel sorry about your loss. I don't think any security app help it, it's useless IMO. If the thief is smart enough, he/she will disable gps and wifi. So there is nothing you can do about it.
First thing i did on mine was installing cerberus. You can never be sure.

Not to mention that if you unlock and root your device you can install Cerberus as a system app so even if they do a factory reset Cerberus is still installed and active so you can track it. In this case only the thief smart enough to actually flash it with a new ROM will be free and clear. I don't remember how much it cost...I think like $1-2 was it, so even if it only gives you a 10% change of recovery...isn't that worth a couple bucks?
Dang. I know exactly how you feel. Hang in there; it may yet re-surface. I realize the almost hopeless optimism in saying that, but I`ve had my faith in humanity restored several times when losing stuff in the past. Let us know what happens! ps: Make Cerberus the first app you install with the new tab (or the old one, if/when it`s returned). good luck!
I talked to the big guy at the dealership and he told me they have security cameras there, so Monday they are going to look at them. Should be easy considering I was there for work and have my exact time there down to 2 hours.
Although I'm not sure what knowing who did it would do for me unless it was an employee... which they could fire them... but it was probably a hobo or a customer. Perhaps then one of the sales guys may know of them and hopefully has their address or something.
I haven't had any emails from those security apps that I tried...
I was thinking after I bought my new one that no only am I out the tablet but the $20 case and $20 SGP SP. So almost $300.
My mother-in-law suggested to claim it on my homeowners insurance because I had a tree fall on my home and I already paid my deductible for the year (which might be per incident). I have yet to call them yet. Probably do that Monday too.

Curved and scracthed Xperia Z1

In the 4 years time i NEVER broke a Smarthphone and only a single scratch in the screen.
This is the first of the (Iphone1-Sony x10-Samsung note 1, note 2, now x1) 5 smarthphones to have a fully scratched screen and broke down.
Im sure of the fact that the upcoming year i wont be having a smarthphone of this premium class or insurance must cover it (I doubt it)
I noticed my Xperia Z1 was heavenly scratched today.
Then i went looking for XDA to say this issue and the screen went weird.
The touchscreen did what he wanted and not me. So i became angry.
How the **** can this happen!
Then the screen went off. I was like W T Hell!???
LED flash turned on and stayed that way.
I wanted to press reset button and came to the conclusion the phone is curved...
How???
Screen doesnt turn on, Computer doesnt detect it.
Lets press Reset button.
Led goes off. But nothing else works anymore.
Volume up and power or volume down doesnt work either.
Sony says i got to contact them and send the phone.
Wich will i quess 100% result into me paying a big amount of money to fix it...
The phone doesnt turn on and has items that are not allowed to be seen by others (classified) .
I got to send it to the insurance company.
Anybody knows how to get these files of the phone?
Computer doesnt see it. And it doesnt turn on.

It dropped from half waist-shoulder (Chest?) height onto the shower mat.
It came out after it as a curved phone.
It is utterly destroyed. Not even a single piece of glass is broken.
The inner part is broken thought...
When i press power button it lowers the brightness of the flash light.
But i dont need the data inside the phone.
I need to get RID of it.
So the insurance company cant get it.
How can i do this?
I cant touch the phone ferther (Breaking it more). If i was allowed i would do it...
Jesus... I better get a case for mine...

I took my case of before dropping it...
If i get a new one. If... I am never going to take it off.
But look at this:
Phone 100% intact. Except for the insides.
So the outside is strong as hell. Better then any other phone.
But the inside wich is the most important of a phone... Yeah you know it.
My Note 2 had some paint of the sides (grey bezel). Costed me 25 euros and 4minutes to replace.
This phone on the other hand.
I either have it insured 100% (own fault) and have to pay 250 own risk. Or i dont get it insured. (Insurance for everything in the house including electronics)
My phone insurance was still on Note 2. I just had the Xperia Z1 new and didnt put it over yet.
F my life!
If it isnt insured. Well i still got a Sony ericsson Cybershot K770 wich is like??? 7-8 years old...
I cant pay 700 euros for a new premium phone

goto love this.. you dropped your phone and are asking for a software repair..
sort it with your insurance, and if you don't have insurance, tough!
New pictures and a video.
In the video you can see it isnt straight anymore at all.
It is curved like the Samsung galaxy curve. But then the lenght direction instead of the weidth.
I hate it to see it like this.
And i gave my Galaxy note 2 to my dad as birthday present. But i have to get it back now for a few days till i got a cheaper replacement for my Sony or insurance cover.
I got a budget of 200,- atm for a new phone if i must.
So i hope i can get atleast 500 euro out of insurance or full cover of the 750 euros.
But i wont be buying an Sony Z1 anymore if i can choose.
I am going back to plastic phones.
They are more premium to me then this junk...
How can a phone go in a curve like this from such a height???
I hope Sony replaces it. Apple replaces an iPhone for 150€, not matter what you did to it.
I don't want to put my Z1 into an ugly case...

I think you must be blind.
I am ASKING HOW TO GET MY DATA OFF. Not a software repair.
There is classified data on the phone. I need to get it out.
I am not saying i need the software fixed so it runs again.
There is something snapped inside or popped out of the flex cable connectors.
And i am not going to open it so my insurance will say get lost.

Simple answer to your question is no, the only thing you can try and do and thats if your phone will even do this is to use flashtool to flash a firmware and this will wipe your phone atleast all your "classified data" will be deleted. If the phone is that messed that it wont do that then your stuck im afraid....sorry

Nobody detects the phone.

Are you 100% that you didn't had it in a rear pocket and sat on it?
Then the sealings was compromised and the phone died in the shower?
It sounds more likely than if a drop did all that hardware damage...

I thought the same. That kind of bend does not occur from a drop within reasonable hight, not even beyond so. It looks just like it's been in a back pocket and sat on, almost forcibly so.

Exactly my thought...
This phone with it's weight not even being 200g, don't build up the force form dropping to bend it self...
