(Q) moto credit - Moto X Q&A

Any one else having issues with Moto credit giving you the amount to cover the phone cost, but can't process the payment because of the $35 tax?
I've called around and they don't allow me to pay the difference. Its either I pay it in total or the credit from Moto must cover it. I've had them escalate the issue to be able to pay the difference. But I'm wondering if anyone else has gone the the process of buying off contract with the Moto credit.

Not following news? Google search for moto credit 0% APR. Or go to moto x page and see the moto credit option.

Let me know if they price match it for you. I just bought one few days ago for $149 at a Verizon store. Thank You

Edit: nm, fixed now. That was quick!

The verizon store i went to still had the phone at $149 so i called verizon and i got the price match. The deal maybe just online.
Fyi for those who may have not pulled the trigger in buying the G2 the droidlife story helios posted has an additional promotion code you can use at checkout for additional $50 off. If it works then this phone would be free!

I got in on this. I have one shipping from Amazon with a total invoice cost of $199.99
.. not sure what I want to do with it. May just resell.
I hope you get it. However I read people are getting emails from amazon saying they are not honoring this glitch even with people showing statuses of shipping. Fingers crossed
I have done no work today because of this phone crazyness.
Amazon would just eat those as a loss in profit. I wonder how many of them got sold. Either way, good catch for the ones that got it for 199 off contract.

not sure if this is the same thing but

Please correct me if I am wrong. I read that Verizon 4G phones come unlocked and that I can use a Verizon LG G2 on another carrier. So can I buy this phone from Verizon (for free) and then just pay the ETF and go use it on TMobile?
Please advise me on such a strategy. Thanks.

I did the VZWDEAL and got the phone for free. DL also posted the SLICK50 will get the phone for free also.
Another Verizon tip. If you're upgrading from a previously unlimited data line to 2GB of data, ask about Verizon Max (might be spelled Maxx). You get 6GB of data for the 2GB price. Got it for both mine and my wife's phone (that's 6GB per phone, not shared between the two of us). I had to call the customer support line as the store guys didn't know about it (3rd party vendor), and you'll need to go through a verification process that takes a couple days. But once done you'll have 6GB of data for $30 per month.

Good news: My G2 that I ordered from Amazon shows shipped for the low price of $225 with next day shipping!!!
Bad news: A lot of people seem to think Amazon will recall the shipped orders.
They will price match. I called verizon to get a refund. Just bought the phone on monday..
If they try to give you ****, you have 14 days to return the phone.
Return your phone. Then say, you know what, Id like to get that phone again.. =D bam..
but seriously, they should be able to knock it down or give you credit.
Verizon guarantees price match within 14 days of activating. I paid 200, got the 50$ off last week, just missed the other 100$ and 50 with code. So, I paid 150.

Did you buy Asurion with your Moto X?

The VZW rep told me that Moto partnered with Moto to guarantee that if you purchase Asurion, that you'll receive an exact replacement for your customized Moto X should it ever need replacing. What's more, they'll overnight you a temporary phone until yours can be built.
This is the only time i've seriously considered Asurion for any of my devices. Did you?

this is more of a discussion thread fyi. but just because no one has replied, ill share my thoughts. I always use asurion mainly because of how easy it is. You can do everything through a verizon store (for me) and it makes it just too easy to go else where. I walk in, say my phone sucks, they say ok without doing much of any kind of checks because they don't care, then if it is manufacturer warranty they ship me a new one within two days (im not motomaker customer) and thats it. I am never without a phone. I never have to deal with a rep on the phone. They never ask any questions really at the store because the reps know its just going to get sent back to moto for manufacturer warranty. If i screw the phone up some how, you just let someone steal that thing and get a new one for 100$ within two days. Just never had a problem or difficulty with them so it makes using them worth it.
when i use the word new i mean replacement fyi. Since im not a motomaker customer they don't have to build a new one for me so i just get replacements, which i have never had an issue with either.
FWIW - my wife tried to replace her DROID4 with Asurion and because the phone is "no longer manufactured", they tried to give her an LG Enact. For $99. Needless to say, I wasn't thrilled with the experience.

i have friends that have been in the same situation but when they called back in they gave them the option of different kinds of phones. they were always happy with the phone that they could get. sometimes they would just get the newest version of the phone that had been released.
I used to have it on the past devices, but dropped it on this upgrade. $10/mo for 24 months =240 + $149 deductible (as quoted by vzw) ends up being $389. Let's be honest, the moto x will be last years model in less than a year and available on Swappa.com for $200-250 on the off chance I break my phone (which I have yet to brake one). It didn't feel right paying for nothing like that. Their replacements are refurbs also, I had a friend that went through four swaps before getting one that worked.

Yup, 2 year warranty through Motorola is $85 for 2 years with a $40 deductible per incident. :good:
I dropped Asurion due to the confusion regarding the covering of the MotoX. I went with SquareTrade--except, I don't think they explicitly cover the MotoMaker ones. I registered it under a black MotoX.
I agree on the Motorola extended service plan. Great price and much better deal than Asurion.

Hi 640k!

Hello ASMT,
I was curious, with my MotoMaker Moto X, if I ever need to use my Asurion policy for my phone, will I be able to get a replacement that is customized as well? With Verizon blocking our ability to get MotoCare, I was very concerned I'd be left with a generic Moto X if I ever have to go through you for insurance.
Thanks!

Don't bother. Just use the motorola insurance. It's much cheaper and you can be assured that you'll not lose the customization.

Moto X return policy

Any know the return policy for the Moto X. The website is not clear, it talks about having 14 days to change your design if you don't like it but no mention if you can get a complete refund. I want to buy this as a gift but need the option to return it if is not liked. Anyone ever receive a refund?
Thanks
"For Moto X devices designed with Moto Maker: Let’s say you do all of your designing, get your Moto X, and then decide you have a different favorite color. You can re-design once if you return the first one within 14 days of buying (30 days in California), no questions asked."
I read that as 14 days from purchase date (not delivery date). The website is silent as to the developer edition but I was told in a chat session the developer edition is 14 days from delivery.
I'd post a link but because of the rules, it won't let me. But if you google motorola return policy --- what I posted will come up.
EDIT: I see what you mean now, that language is for design changes. May want to open a chat session to clarify. They will send you a transcript after the session so you will the answer in writing as well.
You can get a full refund for a MotoMaker X. It is 14 days from the day FedEx delivers it to you, just like an exchange. You can open the factory sealed box and they will still accept it for a refund.
You may have to defend yourself if you get one of "those" reps...

I couldn't find that anywhere in their refund policy, has anyone here ever gotten a refund? I'm going to try to chat them up when it's not so busy.
I am not sure if they spell it out explicitly in their policy but they will take it back based on my experience at least. Sorry I was not so clear -- yes, I did get a refund on mine. I got a not so pleasant foreign sounding lady rep who called me on Thanksgiving 8PM asking me why I wanted to return my X for a refund and questioning me. She was a MotoMaker manager and wanted to confirm the refund after I had called them. The next day I got an email from a Motorola rep confirming the refund:

If you look in the Cyber Monday thread, you'll see a LOT of people returned their Moto Xs for refunds as well. I definitely understand where you are coming from in looking for it officially spelled out from Moto so you can feel safe about it, so I guess your best bet is going to be to contact Moto via chat/email (even though their phone support is much more accurate) so you can get it in writing and save it.
They take it back... Even with an unlock code generated. They also email you a prepaid overnight shipping label too. Its pretty awesome. I've not gotten my refund yet but I only returned it on Friday.

Any experience here with refund after the 14 days?
situation is I'm on my 2nd Moto X, both a had software issues. I'm sure Ill be able to refund it no problem based on my circumstances but just want some feedback. It sucks I really liked this phone.
also anyone recommend a good I can replace this with?
-should cost around 400$ w/ tax
-has to be new and from a legit retailer (not ebay or amazon 3rd party sellers)
-not a nexus 5, I here lot's of those are having some weird microphone volume issue.
-no HUMGO phones lol, something close to the moto size
open to ALL suggestions! thanks!
I made a stupid decision to go with motomaker 32 gig full price instead of the dev edition. My fwd facing camera looks like the gromet or o-ring around the camera is coming off and sliding down partially obscuring the camera. Does anyone know if Moto has allowed people to swap from motomaker full price to dev edition since the cost is the same? Going to call later today when I can get on the phone and see if they'll allow it...

Assuming you didn't use any coupons or extra discounts, you could just return the moto maker one and place a new order for the dev edition, since that's usually how they treat "exchanges" anyway. If you had a coupon or discount that isn't available now, they can offer an advance exchange (where they charge you for the new device then refund it when they receive the old one) but I think that only works for straight moto maker exchanges.

New X - goodbye HTC One

Hey Folks,
Any advice? Here's my situation. I just started a contract with Verizon about 3 months ago with an HTC One. I really wanted a Moto X, but at the time, I was told that the Moto X only came at a max 16 GB storage, and I needed more than that. I learned that 32GB was available...after the 14 day return policy had expired. I've been lusting after a Moto X since, more and more. I'm at the point where I'm close to buying one and paying full price. BUT if anyone knows of a way I could avoid that full price thing, please do tell. I'll probably end up selling the HTC One to try to recoup the cost. Unless I can find someone to trade. Not sure. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know!
Thanks much!

You can Sell the HTC One on Swappa and get enough out of it to pay all but $150-200 of an off contract motomaker.
Sell it, find a code for $150 off the moto x, buy the X, profit
I sold my One for $490, so that covered the $446 (with taxes) of the 32gb moto x.
Swappa. Huh. Never heard of it. I'll give it a look-see. Thanks for the advice!

Can/should I buy the Moto X?

Hi everyone,
I will be travelling to the States next month and thought it would be an opportune moment to buy the Moto X. So I just have a few questions...
1) Can I purchase the Moto X with a debit card? The Moto Maker only mentions using a credit card
2) I understand that shipping is free, but are there any taxes to be paid on top off the off-contract price? I will be living in North Carolina so should I expect their state tax to be applied to the price?
3) This is not so much question as request for advice: by the time I am ready to buy the Moto X, it will be around late January, do you think the price of the Moto X (developer edition) will have lowered by then? If not, do you still think it's worth me buying the Moto X or should I hold out for it's successor? I will only be in the US until May so I'm not sure if this is even possible. Don't want to return to the UK only to find out that Moto X '2' is US only as well!
Would really appreciate your answers/advice. Thanks in advance.

If the debit card functions as a credit card (has MC/Visa symbol), the online purchase treats it like a credit card.

After some trial and error, i think sales tax is applied to all orders.

I wouldn't hold out for the dev edition to drop in any amount. i'm betting it will sell out before it drops. you might have better luck trying to find a used Dev Edition for less.

Technology (especially mobile devices) have a short shelf life. if you constantly worry about the next best thing, you'll never purchase the device you really want. Even if they release an "X2" next year, who's to say there will be many changes to make the switch worth it?
Thanks for responding 640k.
I'm not quite sure what you mean by 'trial and error' - did your order come with sales tax? If you don't mind me asking, how much was this? I will be living and purchasing from North Carolina which has a sales tax of 7.5%, are you saying that this will be applied on top of the total price at checkout?
Appreciate your support.

Sales tax will be added per the ship to address.
If you will be in NC and you buy from the Motorola website while your card is an international visa debit not issued in the US. The purchase will not follow through, this is more likely to do with them using the AVS.
I wouldn't expect the X2 to be making a release already.
