Hey guys,
I just recently got a refurb Droid 3 after my old one had the backlight go out, I hand't had a chance to bootstrap it and put ICS on it. But I was able to get it rooted. I restarted my phone today and ever since it has been stuck at the M logo screen and I've tried everything I can find to remedy this.
I updated this morning to the most recent OTA update (5.7.906 I believe) and then rooted it.
To fix the issue I've tried a few different things. I tried Pete's SBF to 5.7.890 but I was getting an error about the cbt.bin file. I found that with the recent changed to 5.7.906 you aren't able to directly flash over it to go back to 5.7.890. I then found another post on here which had a script to go back to 5.7.890 from 5.7.906. I ran that and still had the same result.
Any other ideas or anything that I am missing?
I can get into fastboot, I've been using the scripts with moto-fastboot. Normal boot is just leaving me at the M logo, booting into recovery yields the same result.
Any help would be appreciated since I have no clue what else I can do at this point...
seems like a soft brick... should be fixable...
With the phone off, hold me, then the power button... then go down to BT TOOLS and select it ( volume up is the select button _ so when u do that it doesnt go to it?

I don't have a BT Tools selection. I do have BP Tools though. I selected it and it just sits there on the M logo as well...
I've tried a few of Pete's scripts with no luck so far (worked on the old Droid 3 when I put it back to stock before shipping it back).

Gave the one that you linked a try, get "Preflash validation failure" for Recovery and Boot.
Any other ideas?

Your 1 Click SBF ran fine and completed without errors but I'm still getting the same result, stuck at M logo.
Is there something I could be missing which is making it not boot that most SBFs don't include? That's the only thing I can think of at this point.

I'm fairly certain that could work, if I could ever get into the Stock recovery....I'm not able to boot into anything. Going to try a few other things, if nothing else works I'll just take it in and see if I can get yet another warranty replacement.
Thanks for the responses, if you have any other ideas just let me know.
I think the main thing that needs to be addressed is that I need to be able to get into recovery and then I will be set to fix it. Right now it just sits at the M logo for Recovery (and any other options from the boot menu).
Hey all My friend gave me his Droid Bionic running ICS update and he said he was trying to get it to work with att BUT while in the process he tried to put in a different build.prop but he deleted the one out of his system folder. The phone boots on a black screen and will not connect to the pc he said he also tried doing the recovery thing to it,
So. No build.prop
Black screen boot.
And no way to mount.
Any ideas?

If the data on this phone is no longer needed, you could alway flash a stock JB 4.1.2 using RSD.
That'll surely fix all the problem except data loss.

You didn't state that you did this. So, I'll start with the obvious.
1. Fully charge and then power off the phone.
2. Press & hold the volume + and volume -.
3. Power on the phone.
4. Once the boot menu comes up, use volume - to move to AP Fastboot & select wit volume +.
5. Plug in the phone to your PC and run RSD Lite. Click Config>Flash modes>Fastboot Mode.
6. Flash the phone with ICS or JB.
If you choose BP SBF Flash, on the menu, RSD may not work right. If you try to downgrade it, you can brick it.
Let me know how it goes.

I would definitely not recommend flashing JB. Stay with ICS.
Once you go to JB you are locked down with lots of restrictions.
If you stay with ICS you can root easier, and you have more choices of custom roms that you can use.
If you go JB, you can only use JB custom roms.
You can use either safestrap or bootstrap if you stay with ICS. If you do JB, you are stuck with safestrap.
Stay with ICS! If you want JB, only use custom JB roms, don't flash them through RSD.

RSDLite does noto see the phone at all. Making it impossible to flash. I have tried 6 different cords including the one that came with the phone. And if you read one of my earlier posts you will see where I said rsd isn't working. I cant seem to figure out how to get it to work either. Ive done the drivers several times along with new cords..

Do you see a device in Windows Device Manager? Can you get to the menu I talked about on the phone. RSD won't see the phone if Windows doesn't load the drives correctly. Do you have the Android SDK loaded? That can help w/ manual flashing... and drivers. It's important to get the phone in the AP Fastboot mode to get the proper connectivity.
I think I might have done it, this time. I installed RebelROM on my phone, as I was curious if it would be more battery friendly. I decided that it wasn't, and went to reboot into recovery to reinstall the nandroid I had made earlier in the afternoon. Oops. My only available recovery was CWM, not TWRP. No problem, I thought, I will just reinstall with CWM. Give me a chance to learn the new recovery, I thought. But, CWM wasn't seeing my external SD card, so I went back and forth to move the nandroid I had made to the internal SD, so CWM could see it. I also installed TWRP to the internal SD, as CWM was proving to be a pain. Unfortunately, TWRP wasn't able to access my internal SD, where the nandroid was now stored, so I tried to recover into an older nandroid. Now, though, the phone won't boot at all, past the screen that describes the phone as an Exhibit from T-Mobile. I can't boot back into recovery. I can't access the drives through the USB cord, either. Any suggestions? Skyukillparanormal has disappeared. Ironically, I'm up in his neck of the woods. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Pull the battery. After replacing, push down the power button and volume up at the same time. Hole them down for a few seconds. CWM should reappear. Either restore your recovery if it was CWM created or reflash the ROM.

Unfortunately, AD, CWM is not reappearing. I had been holding down the power and volume down keys to no avail. Now I know why. It seems, though, that the power/volume up combo has the same (lack of) effect. Am I screwed?

If that isn't working there are more serious problems. Try 2 or 3 times as it doesn't always work the first time. You can try ODIN but it's for advanced users. If you don't know how to use it probably not the best option. I hope you didn't brick your recovery because in that case that's the only option that will save you.

Well soon that will be the case but not yet! Anyway here the link to get ODIN: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2012979&d=1370213005
Instructions here:
2. With your phone powered off, go into the Download (or Odin) mode by pressing the volume down and power buttons. When the screen with the exclamation mark appears, select the volume up button. You should now be in download mode.
3. Connect your Galaxy Exhibit to your PC.
3. Open Odin Multi Downloader v4.43.exe on your PC.
4. click on the OPS-Button and navigate to the folder with the extracted files and select Ancora.ops file.
5. Select the options: One Package, Protect OPS. I did not touch the Auto Reboot, Reset Time options.
6.Click on the One Package-Button and select the md5 file in the extracted folder.
7. Click on the Start button. The flashing process took around 5 minutes for me, at which point the phone rebooted into recovery mode to finish the process. I selected reboot the system.
ODIN flashable CWM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1962398&d=1368560948

Thank you for the link, but I can already tell that there will be a problem with that solution, as well. I tried over and over to press the power volume down button. I never saw a screen with an exclamation point. I never see anything until I release both buttons, at which point it starts up normally, but like I said, freezes before the rom loads, or before loading any recovery. There seems to be no difference if I hold down the vol up or the vol down button.

Just like CWM, it can take a few tries. Yeah I know that gets old but sometimes it's taken me 4 or 5 attempts before I can get the phone into download mode. Don't give up until you're sure there is nothing to be done. It really just sounds like a soft brick to me.
Maybe if all else fails just say the hell with it, and if you can, get the Galaxy Light on HSN ($150). They'll let you pay in installments if you can't/don't want to pay all at once. You won't be able to root it just yet since it's new, but man maybe it's for the best. At least you will not be able to brick that phone! It has JB on it anyway.

Soft brick is what I was thinking, too.
Man, that Galaxy Light is perfect! I have been looking for exactly that phone for a while. When did it come out? And paying in installments makes it even better. Plus, I've now learned my lesson. When I do root that phone, I will be more careful about my flashaholic tendencies. If I get it, that is. We'll have to see.

Came out in just the past couple of months. The hardware is so much better than the Exhibit. Again keep in mind, there presently is no way to root it and there are no custom ROMs right now. Activity on XDA for this device has been pretty light, only downside to this phone and the main reason I passed on it.

I understand about there being no xda activity. That's a consideration. With 8 GB of internal storage _plus_ a removable SD card, though, I can't see bloatware being a problem for a bit. By then, the Slimroms guys will have gotten ahold of it and put together something, I am sure. Can I live with stock jb? Can I even pick this up? Hmmmmmm...... Food for thought.

You should be able to restore the nandroid. Since you have CWM working again, you can always do a full wipe & flash the ROM again if that doesn't work.

Wow, then that means you don't have the Samsung drivers installed. This is getting more complicated. You'll have to have the drivers installed for this device. Unfortunately it might be too late because after you get them installed to your PC, you have to connect your phone and it would have to be in a usable state for the drivers to finish installing if I remember correctly.
Anyay you can still try it, here's the drivers you need: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/SGH-T679DBBTMB?
it sure is nice being able to reach out and having people give assistance. thanks guys.

Actually, all is not lost. The drivers have been located and installed and the phone is now detected. Exactly which boxes are checked on the ODIN panel? You had mentioned that you didn't touch two of them (Protect OPS and Reset Time, I believe), but those were already selected when the program started. Right now, all 4 options are selected. Is the CWM .tar file all you need for the One Package link, or is there something else?

Hi,
could you pleas help me. I was installing, wiping ROMs in safestrap and didnt pay attention and wipe stock ROM all the system everything. I can get to recovery mod but dont know what to do? Is it possilbe just download and install something in recovery?
Thank you
You actually have a couple options, I think.
If you have a physical microsd card and you can put it in your computer, you can put a zip on there and then flash it from safestrap. But that doesn't seem likely...
Thanks to sdshadow I have another idea. Hold both volume buttons when you turn the phone on. Then use you computer (run rsdlite or the Droid 4 utility) to flash an sbf file to your phone. Obviously this requires a data cable between your computer and phone.
I don't remember how it works, but I think you can transfer a zip from your computer to your phone using a data cable without booting an OS (using adb, I think).
Hopefully this helps or someone else can give you clearer instructions. I'll do a little more research if I need to.

I should still have installed CM 10.2 on rom 1 in safestrap but I dont know how to open safestrap. Because I wipe stock rom the stock rom I have still active and reboot device :/

try Boot Mode Selection Menu> Scroll down with volume down button, to BP Tools, Select with Volume UP button, may boot directly to SafeStrap.
if that does not work
may need to re-install drivers or at least look in window device manager to see if it is listed correctly
see my drivers errors
if drivers are correct, RSD lite/Droid 4 utility should see Droid 4.
The phone si ok.
Thank you very much for help!
Hey Guys im new here. In a REAAALYY messed up situation right now.
PLEASE HELP!!!:crying::crying::crying:
Had Carbon kitkat 4.4.2 rom flashed with Philz touch 6.19.
Phone suddenly crashed while using Whatsapp. It did not switch on,when i tried.
Tried re-flashing original stock 4.1.2 firmware (india version, coz im in India).
Used only PDA file(thats what was suggested in a website).
Flashed with Odin 3 v3.07. Got a "PASS" message.
BUT now came the problem. Phone got stuck at Samsung logo and switched off. Battery was about 70%
So I removed battery and restarted phone but same problem. Then I booted phone to stock recovery.
Did "data wipe/factory reset" and then "reboot now" option. Same result,i.e booted till samsung logo and then switched off.
So I again re-flashed stock 4.1.2 firmware(india version),but this time using Odin 3 v3.04(i know it may not make a difference).
Again got a "PASS" message.
Now, it started booting ,started downloading apps(eg:"downloading apps 32 of 63"...,etc).
After this phone booted to Stock Recovery.
This time i did "Reboot now"
It rebooted back to Stock recovery.
Again i did "reboot system" and then it booted back to stock recovery.
So kinda stuck in stock recovery loop.
If i unplug phone from PC,none of the buttons give a reponse(No download mode, stock recovery)
Is it hard bricked, coz when i plug phone back,i can get to download mode and stock recovery, just that it keeps rebooting to stock recovery again and again.
PLEASE HELP. Found everywhere on the net possible, couldn't find anything!
My dad would kill me if he got to know! :crying::crying::crying:
i know im asking for too much, being a new member, but please reply ASAP. Im freaking out here
Instead of pc, check with the charger connected... Could be a battery issue.

Maybe. But my battery was perfect before all this problem started. Its weird if it would just die off suddenly.
Also, i tried the wall charger, and the cable with another phone and its working properly.
I also tried charging with another charger,
Anyway, i tried charging via wall adapter, but then it automatically boots into Stock Recovery, even if i do not press any buttons.
even If i remove battery, put it on again and then put phone on charge,it automatically boots into stock recovery, without pressing any buttons.
And of course, pressing"reboot now" again boots it back to stock recovery.
Odin flash was successful with "PASS" message, and also i tried to factory reset and then "reboot sys now" but it made no difference.

Do u have KIES Disabled during odin? Are you using odin as Administrator? Did u disable firewall and antivirus when flashing with odin? Do u have the necessary files to root it in your sd card?A suggestion only that in your state, try rooting, installing recovery, and flash a custom rom to check if it boots
Note: You don't really have to install india vers. just because you're in india. Try newest ver available.

Try flashing philz ddlsc kernel using odin. Then boot into recovery. This time you will get cwm. Format system, data cache and preload. Then go to advanced menu/power options and choose reboot download. Connect to pc and flash the rom again.

The problem's worse now. Cant get phone to recovery mode. Only can boot into download mode.
As soon as i plug in for charge, the empty battery photo keeps popping on and off. Thats it.
I can only enter download mode, and not recovery mode.:crying:

yeah. i don't know what to do now. I'm going to try flashing the ICS stock firmware using Odin.
If that doesn't work, then I think i'll have to take it to some mobile phone repair centre.

I see. so after you changed the battery, did the phone boot up?
and if it did , did it boot up into the last firmware you had tried to flash?(i.e.,ICS,GB or JB)?
