[Q] Rooted and now soft brick stuck on boot - Moto X Q&A

Help!
I rooted my Moto X (RockMyMoto) and everything has been fine.
Hubby got a new Moto X and I rooted his just fine. However after installing and restoring from Titanium Backup I am now stuck on the boot loader. It gets through all the animations and then freezes just before the verizon logo would typically load. I can press power and down volume buttons to get to the Fastboot screen but when I try any of the options "normal, recovery, factory" they all boot into the same problem.
I'm sure something in his Titanium backup/restore did this but I don't know how to get booted up so I can fix it. Or at this point I'd take a Factory reset and start over.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

FIxed Solution to Moto X soft brick issue ( SD card Wiped ).
Finally got solution for this soft brick issue.
I had same problem. I accedently wiped my whole sdcard while wiping through twrp.
lost all the files, backup n all. noting to restore !
The only thing left was TWRP on my screen.
N if i tried to reboot, it said "are you sure ? No OS installed" kind of thing. Because there wasnt !
After pulling out an all n8er reading all related posts & threads on XDA, finally i was able return to my stock firmware moto X xt1052 India (AsiaRetail) by following method. (Method applied for all moto X variants provided stock firmware is available)
Thanks to all the bros in this XDA thread
* [GUIDE][VIDEO] Moto X - Return to 100% stock (using RSD Lite OR manual flash)
*ZEDOMAX on youtube.
1.I think in the case of all sd wipe, only flashing any ROM will not work.
But anyway if you havent washed white & still stuck,
go on youtube & search for ZEDOMAX-How to Copy Files Over to your Android In a Bootloop with No OS using ADB!
you will get the video & right instructions. Very helpful.
2 Now if you are all wiped like me, Dont panic ! There is an option of flashing a stock firmware on your device.
Go to this XDA thread
[GUIDE][VIDEO] Moto X - Return to 100% stock (using RSD Lite OR manual flash)
RSD lite worked pretty good for me.
++NOTE++
1. If you are in TWRP recovery & trying to connect to RSD lite, it wont show your device.
Push power + vol up + vol down altogether for about 10 sec & let'em go.(It might stuck on BTLDR UNLKD screen, dont worry, do it again) &
You will enter in fastboot menu. RSD lite will recognize your device Now when you plug USB cable to your PC (After Installing all the drivers suggested in video), you can follow that video from thread to flash stock fmwr. RSD will now work fine.
2. Moto X toolkit is gr8, but not for xt1052. Dont go there.
3. You will get most of the StockFirmwares here. Specially for 1052 bros. I bet you wont find'em this easily anywhere else. !

is the SF i installed. & it was same as my original one. 624MB.
GoodLuck bros.
I hope it helps to soft bricked bros ending up here. Hit Thanks if it works & of course let me know if there is anything else.

If your brother's device is a Motorola Milestone 1 or Motorola Droid 1:
1. Install RSD lite and drivers for the phone
3. Enter the bootloader (Dpad Up + Power Button)
2. Flash a vulnerable recovery ( Only for Motorola Milestone) http://www.mediafire.com/?jzzjmmrvwkz
3. Go to http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone or http://and-developers.com/sbf:droid depending on your phone, download an sbf from there and flash it via RSD lite.
4. You should be done

Soft-Bricked Moto G (2014) won't move beyond Fastboot

Hey guys!
So I've got an issue I'm struggling with on the Moto G (2014). First I'll tell you as much as I can about the phone: I bought it from the Motorola website, so I think it's running whatever the stock firmware is. Also, it's the 8 GB US model and isn't tied to any carrier. (I have it on T-Mobile, but got it directly from Motorola. I was trying to figure out what the firmware is but the closest I've been able to get is by running the Motorola Device Manager app while the phone is in fastboot mode. It says there are no available updates for: 21.11.17.titan_retuaws.retuaws.en.us The bootloader is locked and the phone is not rooted. It's pure stock, though it might have automatically gotten an OTA update to the latest official release, I can't be sure because I bought it for someone else.
Okay, so the problem. I'd bought the phone for my dad and set it up and it worked fine for about two months. Yesterday, he came by my place and asked if I could take a look at it because it was stuck on one screen and since there was no removable battery, he didn't know how to reset it. The screen it was stuck on is the boot screen where the Motorola logo is supposed to come up. It was up, but the bottom half of the logo was stretched to the side and pixelated so my first reaction was "crap, he hit it against something and there's damage to the screen." But there was no visible damage to the screen anywhere (neither from a hard hit or from pressure) and he's got the flip case for it and he said it hadn't been hit or anything.
I tried to power it down by holding down the power button, but as soon as it went off, it tried to start up again. A bootloop that always froze on that messed up Motorola boot screen. I set it on the charger for a bit and let it run through the loop a few times and at one point it got as far as the "world" screen where it shows a cartoon planet. This extended down past where the weird stretch happened on the motorola graphic and it was perfectly clear so I realized there was no damage to the screen, just some sort of boot error.
So then I tried booting into fastboot (hold both volume buttons down along with the power button for a few seconds, release) and I was able to get into fastboot. I tried scrolling down to recovery and then hitting the volume up key to select it but the second I hit the volume up key (the selection key in this mode) it reboots the phone. It doesn't go into the recovery screen, just turns off the phone. I tried this for the "Factory" (reset) option, for the "Normal Powerup" option, and the others. Instead of getting anything different, selecting any of them turns the phone off and nothing happens. The computer is recognizing that there's a device connected to it when I have the phone plugged in via usb in fastboot to my Windows 8 laptop. It also appears that I can enter commands in fastboot. (Though I'm not sure what to put in to fix this so I'm turning to you guys.)
So I can't figure out what's wrong. I've got some experience in flashing roms, both manually and with some of the tools, but haven't had to deal with what I'm assuming is a soft brick before.
Can anyone offer any help?
Thanks very much.

Unfortunately that didn't work. I was able to click the "restore to factory" part and it seemed to do that but I tried it again with the "wipe cache partition" and it just reset. I tried to restart normally and nothing happened. I will start boot and go to the Motorola logo but will always fail there, no matter what I try.
I'm still stuck with the soft-bricked phone. Any help going from Fastboot to somehow getting it to work?
(As I stated in the OP, the recovery options don't work. It seems only the Fastboot area is working.)
try to reflash the rom via fastboot, using the commands on 4.2 on this thread
if you have fastboot working they must work and re-flash the stock rom and everything back to stock...
to have the XML zip of yours rom search in here and download the file regards yours model and OS version that you wanna...
download, very slow download, unzip, to the some folder of mfastboot and give the commands a try... :good:
This is how to solve *ANY* softbrick on the Moto G 2014 (2nd Gen Moto G)
Try unlocking your bootloader with the given instructions on Motorola's website. You can flash a recovery like TWRP or CWM using mfastboot-v2. After flashing the recovery you can reinstall a custom ROM or stock ROM to fix the soft brick. ADB is only available if you enabled USB debugging although it will allow few commands. Using mfastboot-v2 after unlocking the bootloader will play the main factor in resolving the soft brick.:good:

hello eyhajee.
My Moto G 2014 xt1068, running on Android 5.0.2 has some softbrick issue.
I have unlocked its bootloader, rooted it, unrooted it and while I was trying to lock its bootoader, I forgot to enable USB debugging and now it's stuck on fastboot mode.
So I wanna ask that can flashing a custom ROM turn my phone on??
I think so. If you are able to run some basic commands you should be able to flash it to emergency mode.

Won't boot, stuck at Intel screen

Hi
I'm not too familiar with messing around with phones so please bear with me throughout!
Bootloader is locked and I'm running KitKat 4.4.2.
Screen froze the other day so I soft reset (Power + volume down), but it won't boot up and freezes at either the red M logo or at the Intel screen. Cleared the cache on Fastboot mode but this didn't make any difference. I have some really important photos that I'd like to keep, so I haven't cleared the user data.
Before upgrading to 4.4.2, on 4.1.2 I easily fixed this problem by flashing using RSD Lite and only having the "system signed" line in the XML code. This fixed it and I didn't lose any of my files. I'd have tried the same but have learnt that the 4.4.2 fastboot files aren't yet available.
Please help!
Thanks,
Sam

Sorry to say, but clearing userdata might be your only option. There is no way to recover data if it does not boot and the bootloader is locked.
If the bootloader were unlocked you could recover the photos via TWRP recovery. The big problem is that when you do the bootloader unlock process it erases your phone, so it won't help you now as it will erase everything.
There still isn't a 4.4.2 firmware file. We have to wait for it to be leaked, but that might never happen.

What @AGISCI is true. But if u can get to the Intel logo (part of the bootanimation) and have adb debugging enabled u could try to pull your important files from the phone. But if u don't have both adb debugging enabled than there is no chance. U could try to manually flash the system_signed from 4.1.2 firmware and see how far u can get as last resort. Hope that it boots and if possible u can extract the files.
I've got exactly the same problem today.
I have unlocked bootloader and I'm OK with erasing all data.
KitKat 4.4.2
What can I possibly do to make my phone working again? Is there any solution?
Many thanks.

With bootloader unlocked u can flash a custom recovery and wipe userdata through that. U can even wipe user data through the stock recovery if I am correct.
If that doesn't solve your problem, install a custom recovery and then restore the system partition of one of the KitKat twrp backups. And do a factory reset (data wipe) after that.
Hi everybody,
I do have the same problem with screen freezing on intel logo.
I'm ok to erase everything and I tried every options in the bootloader menu (recovery, factory,...) but it doesn't help.
Any idea?
Thanks,
Sylvain
I have the exact same problem since yesterday.

[SOLVED]Substratum killed bootloader | Moto e4 plus
Exactly the same thing happened to me.
You need to flash the stock rom again.
Apparently, the only unofficial custom rom (Lineage) isn't working(Stuck in the middle of bootanimation).
To flash custom rom,
search " Stock Rom Moto e4 plus" in Google
Visit the search result with the link getdroidtips[dot]com
It worked flawlessly.
I'm new to xda.. So I can't post any links

Did you by any chance flash a different bootlogo? I know if you flash a bootlogo that wasn't sized properly or one from a different device, like say the Moto G5 or something, it will screw up your bootloader screen like that. If you did, just flash the stock bootlogo.bin and see if it fixes your bootloader screen. I have never had a substratum theme screw up my bootloader like that or heard of it happening.

i guess you did flash the android sistem option from substratum, the phone doesn't like very much that much and enters in a conflict state

Moto G5s Plus Stuck on booting and not starting.

Hi all..
My moto g5s plus is not starting. After booting.. The lenovo logo shows and then it shuts down again.
Phone is not rooted and bootloader is locked.
Faatboot and recovery mode are opening.
I can do factory reset but that will erase all data from internal memory.
Please suggest me a way to get the phone working or if I can backup the phone data and then do a factory reset.
Thanks in advance.

I have a similar problem with my daughters phone, g5 S Plus, Validus 9, rooted. I don't think it's a problem with the ROM, at least no one else has reported this issue there. Twice, about a month apart, the phone suddenly reboots to TWRP. If you try to reboot to system it gets as far as the home screen for a split second, then reboots to recovery. The only way to get the os back is to do a factory reset. Which loses data on the phone, and she gets bent. Attached are logcat, recovery and kernel logs.

Fastboot is a oneway street, pc to phone. Factory recovery doesn't do back up, ADB would be what you want, but you do not have TWRP/root. Only thing I can think of, by any chance did you give google permission to back up your phone? At least you might get text and apps back. Have you tried holding the volume down and power at the same time, and cycling thru the bootlader three times? It's worked for me in the past. Goodluck.
