All of sudden -- stuck pixel - Moto X Q&A

So, I've had my motox for a couple of week and now, up pop a single red, stuck pixel. Anyone else have this happen? Any ideas how to fix? I tried the "pixel fix" apps, which of course don't work.

How long did you run the pixel fix apps?
Sent from my XT1053 using xda app-developers app

Maybe an hour or two. I've since read that amoled cannot have stuck or dead pixels like LCD. Either way, I'm exchanging it.

I think my dogotizer is going bad...

A while ago I came across a YouTube video of a guy poopooing the Nexus 7 because while he liked the device he's had two have screens that suddenly went haywire. I fear my device is beginning to suffer the same fate.
Its a 32gb that I picked up from staples on day one of their release. Basically what happens is increasingly my swipes (long swipes... Not flicks) register as taps and sometimes don't pick up at all. Also from time to time the screen will behave randomly as if I'm seiping or tapping even when I'm not even holding the device. Normally turning the screen off will fix it but its gotten to the point that I'm now resetting the device a couple of times a day.
Basically I want to know what the best option is. Take it back to staples even though its been well beyond 30 days? Call Google support? Is there a known fix? Thanks folks.

Nexus 4 screen issue ( Not a troubleshooting topic)

Hi everyone, i would like to share a experience i've had with both of my nexus 4 ordered from the google play with you other n4 possessors.
This is not a troubleshooting topic it's just a kind of survey i'm doing.
I've received my nexus 4 in december, and i noticed there was something going on with the display, some horizontal lines stayed on the screen while i was swiping the homescreen or changing image/scrolling webpages. Then after a while i noticed there was a dark horizontal line on the left side of the screen. This line doesn't appear on white images, it can be seen more on grey or dark backgrounds, e.g. put the 4th default wallpaper and scroll all the way to the left and you should be able to see it. Also, this line became more and more marked on the screen depending on the temperature of the battery, e.g. while charging or playing heavy games or flash player. I called google play ordered a replacement and i got it the day after, turn it on, install all my apps, and the line was STILL there, also on the new device.
My question is, am I so unlucky that i've received 2 faulted devices from google or everyone has this problem? can anyone please check?
P.s. put brightness to the maximum when checking.
where is this line appearing i cant understand

On the left of the screen, horizontal dark line, it can be seen better on a gray or dark image, such as the wallpaper i suggested
The line actually appears when I'm swiping away recent apps..hadn't noticed until now. It could probably be fixed with switching roms though. I'm on JD's perfect android right now. This is my 3rd nexus device, no problems on it, 303k.

Thanks for checking justin, can you also check it again when the battery gets warmer? like just play a heavy 3d game or charge the phone. it should be more marked, sometimes i can even see it over my power control widget :crying:
Yeah my line is different I believe, I put the phone to charge and put on grand theft auto. Nothing really appeared.

Anyone else willing to check their displays and help me out?
Are you sure you don't mean vertical line? on the left side.
If so then yes mine has it.
I can't see any line on my display
oh god guys i meant Vertical..meangreenie is right.. sorry everyone, i mean vertical line on the left of the screen!
I've got 2 vertical lines on both sides of the screen (left and right) and they're not that much visible but they're always there. IT just looks as if those sides were a little bit dimmer than the rest of the screen.
I have same problem on my n4,there's grey line on left screen which more visible when the device getting heat..is it possible to disappear by itself after few time?or should i claim my warranty?thx before and sorry for my bad english
Guys I'm having the same issue. Should I claim my warranty? Or any solution to make it disappear? For me this is a very costly phone and I don't wanna take any risks. I can see the line in most apps even in chrome while typing in address bar the window greys out. At that time its perfectly visible. Its jus 1 month old n now I'm **** scared

Guys please help
I'm glad I caught this thread. I bought a refurbished Nokia wireless charging plate. I didn't have the good sense to check XDA first, and sure enough the thing has compatibility issues. I thought I'd just leave it on the plate overnight to settle in as some people have suggested, and after about an hour my screen was violently flashing on and off with pronounced vertical lines over the screen (discoloration, not a line of pixels). After a while the lines mostly faded, but I can still see them just as described in this thread when I pull down the notification tray or open any app with a grey background (like the gallery).
I just got an RMA today. I'm wondering whether we've all experienced power issues or if I just didn't notice the lines until I was looking for them.

I'm not so sure that this is even a problem that an RMA is going to fix. Like I said, I only noticed it when I was looking for it. Might just be a charactaristic of a batch of panels, more like a light leak than damage.
However, if it is damage there is no way you're fixing it without an RMA. It's clearly not a software level issue.
I thought I was the only one. Mine has it but I barely notice it anymore.

Stuck/Dead Pixels On display

Hey guys, I've just bought my Z 2 weeks ago and have just noticed stuck pixels on my screen. 4 white tiny squares.
Well 3 are tiny, one's a little bigger.
Already played a dead pixel app off on it but they're not responding.
According to guarantee, 1-4 dead/ stuck pixels are no reason for a replacement or fix.
What else can I do to get rid of them? Any idea?
Apparently they disappear by themselves or stay forever:what:

Are you sure that 1-4 are considered normal? In one of my booklets (titled Important Informations) that came with the Z, it says that up to 2 defective pixels are considered normal, meaning 3 or above are enough to claim warranty. This might depend on the country or carrier maybe, but I think it shouldn't. Could you post a picture of the booklet/warranty where this is written?
Check your warranty booklet and other leaflets that come with the phone. I had 3 dead pixels and read that up to 2 are acceptable so I sent it on warranty.
But if yours says that more dead pixels are allowed then I'm afraid you did what you could by runnig the pixel fixing app.
Although since you say 3 are tiny and one is bigger this one might actually be more than one pixel. It could be a small cluster of dead pixels. I suggest you go to the shop you bought your Z in and ask them to replace it. It won't hurt since the worst that can happen is that they say no.

Well. Been at the shops today, they declined. Lucky as I get, I'm only left with 1 STUCK pixel. Because it's sometimes blue, sometimes white, it's definitely not dead

If it's not dead, you can use pixel fixing app that shows different colours like this or this. You can also find videos on youtube that does same thing like this one or that one (second video is actually better because it's for FullHD displays but shorter, so you will have to repeat it couple times)
Good luck! :fingers-crossed:

Thanks, but I've already mentioned that I've used pixel fix apps, even.had them launched for 1-2 days! 3 have vanished, only the slightly bigger one is still there! And it stands out by miles on a dark screen:banghead::screwy:
Edit: funny thing, these stuck pixels keep disappearing and reappearing again and again. Rather annoying!

Screen shifting

OK, I've noticed a strange occurrence that happens on my phone, its like the screen shifts down. What's up with that? I've attached an image below showing you what I mean.

Phone is not rooted, running 5.1

Whatttt lol never seen that on any phone before
I know, it's weird, it's only ever happened 3 times, twice in the last 2 hours.

Wow. That's strange. Wonder if its a software issue vs a hardware issue. I've had my nexus 6 for a little over a month and haven't had that happen yet
I'm thinking it might be a software issue, I didn't notice this until I updated from 5.0.1 to 5.1

with that line down the middle it seems like it's a permutation of the screen tearing effect.

Known issue on the Nexus 6. Some devices the screen will "split" or tear down the middle and be unresponsive. I've had it happen. Your picture shows a definite line down the middle of your screen and I wonder if it is just another version of that issue.
line through screen
Hi guys
I too have the same issues with the Nexus 6. I notice it every time I watch netflix. Watching it horizontally, I will hat a horizantal line in middle and then sometimes even a vertical line. SO it looks like 4 window panes. I have to shut off phone to correct issue. Please let me know if you come up with a fix.
Thanks

Does the screen go black, or does it freeze. If it is the latter, most people say an RMA will resolve it.

It continues playing the movie with the black line. I have read this happens often w Netflix our this phone.
Happened to me too. I've read that for some people locking and then unlocking the screen solves it but I had to restart it to bring it back to normal. The screen stayed responsive though.
I can only assume that no fix for this has been found. I also have the issue, though turning off the screen and turning it back on fixes it until the next time it messes up.

My nexus 6 started having this problem from a few weeks ago. I think I saw the black-line-in-the-middle issue initially as well, but the prevalent issue for me right now is shifted or wrapped-around screen (need to figure out how to post a picture - this is my first post). The amount of shift sometimes varies (as much as half of the screen), and the video playback is not affected (phone works fine other than the screen shift), and screen is not frozen. I have had the phone for about 6 months (T-mobile) and it's not rooted and it has the latest android version (5.1.1 I think). Initially it showed up when playing netflix for a while (like 10 minutes), then it happened in youtube as well. It only happens when the screen is in landscape mode, and it does not happen every time. Turning off the screen then turning it back on does not make the problem go away. Only reboot can fix the issue, but the problem will come back after some play time.
I haven't seen any post talking about the same problem, let alone people talking about this kind of problem 6 months after using their phones (most screen problems reported are within a few days after the phone was received). Anyone has similar experience? I haven't talked to t-mobile yet but I will. The last android update on my phone was from a while ago so it shouldn't be related to that, but it could be related to netflix/youtube app updates but I don't remember when I updated last time. I am also using a phone cover with a lid which I expect would make heat dissipation situation worse but I started using that cover many months ago so I don't think it should be related either.
Not same issue I'm quite sure but I had a small think black like going across my screen, just appeared one day... This line didn't quite touch the edges of the screen but had an even gap on each side where it ended. I did a factory reset and no dice so I ended up taking it back to Sprint and after attempting to tighten a ribbon and they could not fix it they ordered me a new one and I see now that my og N6 was indeed defective as the speakers sounded completely different and on this new one speakers don't sound like crap.. Tk God for insurance.

What can I do to prevent half screen problem?

On most roms I am to get the half screen problem, and I was wondering if there is something I can do to prevent it.
According to T-Mobile it is a know problem. Got my replacement on order. I had the problem happen before I even rooted the phone. Seems to have gotten worse over time for me though and that's why I called to have it replaced. If your having the problem I totally recommend the same to you. I will say after trying chroma I think it has gotten more frequent even after loading up my light rom backup. I can't blame it on anything other then bad hardware though cause like I said it happened before I rooted a week into having the phone.
Hardware issue, replace it
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA Free mobile app
Yeah I had the issue before I rooted as well. Lol I had called tmobile for the replacement 5 min before reading this and they are sending me a replacement device. Thanks for responding though!
When to you guys called it in, do you get the normal "factory reset" troubleshooting, or do they know that this issue is random and just send a replacement? I get the issue with certain kernels, and not with others and am wondering if I should call it in.
