Do u have reboot checked or unchecked in odin? I tried after flashing without reboot and it does not work
I tried. After flashing pda and csc in odin with reboot unchecked, I pulled usb out and tried to hold power for 20 sec. The screen just shows download mode with blue bar. Am I doing some th ing wrong?
Question got answered in an or topic of yours, it's holding down the 3 bttn combo so that it will restart, then turn it off with the powerbutton.

On KK5 here. Excellent battery life ^_^ (can usually go a full day, ~9 hours, with heavy usage with no problem)
How to flash a kernel?
1. Download & install kies
2. close kies
3. download odin3
4. download the kernel
5. open odin
6. press: "PDA" and select the kernel.tar.gz
7. boot your phone into downloadmode (press and hold "home", "volume down" & "power on" buttons)
8. connect your phone to the pc
9. go to odin and press "start"
10. wait...
So..the best kernel is...?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
There is no best kernel unless we are talking about customed ones. Basically all stock kernels perform about the same and usually it is the baseband or modem that makes the difference in draining batteries as those are tweaked for the region that you are in.

Dont use this method or u will loose warranty, refer chainfire's thread to properly flash kernel without increasing the binary counter.

Na I'm good, I'm just now reading the replies. The problem for me was that apparently there are different methods and not all devs are explaining them in their threads. Maybe its an idea to create a FAQ thread in the rom dev thread?
my Galaxy s1 doesn't power up !

Can you get it into download mode without it turning off? (Hold volume down + home button + power) Or recovery? (Hold volume up + home button + power?) Is it rooted with clockwork mode?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using xda premium
Maybe its a boot loop. Switch off your phone and check if download and recovery mode is available(see next paragraph).
If so follow the steps mentioned.
First of all download xxjw4 firmware for galaxy gt-I9000 from
http://www.hotfile.com/dl/150483619/708026d/I9000XXJW4_I9000OXAJW4_XEU.zip.html
1) Put your phone into Recovery mode (Vol up + Home + Power button) and perform a Wipe data/Factory reset, then a Wipe cache. When done pull the battery out for around ten seconds then re-insert.
(If recovery isn't working ignore this step)
2) Put the phone into Download mode (Vol down + Home + Power button)
3) Unzip the JW4 firmware folder you've downloaded to your Desktop.
4) Launch Odin and click on the button that says PDA and navigate to the PDA file you've just unzipped to your desktop and select it.
5) Connect your phone to your PC via USB. Odin will say Added and a box will turn yellow to indicate it has recognised your phone.
6) Click the start button in Odin and sit back and wait for Odin to flash your phone. When it's finished it will take a few minutes longer for the phone to reboot than is usual so please don't panic. The phone will reboot.
7) When the phone has rebooted, remove the USB cable and you now have the latest 2.3.6. It might be a good idea to repeat step 1 to make sure nothing of the old firmware is left behind.
And that's it, seven steps to 2.3.6 JW4 Value Pack and TouchWiz 4.
In case you want more info about flashing go to this site
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/galaxy-s-gets-official-value-pack-firmware-xxjw4-includes-touchwiz-4/
Enjoy
idon't have a recovery the phone isn't root and but i can get to the download mod !
still i tried what you said with the odin and it doesnt work
the phone wasn't root before and had a stock from the operator
If its a boot loop try this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=984140
If not download the files from sammobile (2.3.6 xxjw4) put the .tar file in the PDA and 512 pit file in the pit section make sure the repartition is ticked then if it still in a boot loop search for the cfs root and flash that then get the file off the thread I gave you then flash that to the phone as instructed on the thread then your phone should work edit* you need to put your phone into download mode before plugging in and flashing

yeah i know the basics ! but stil it doesnt work ! can it be a hardware problem? and if it right how can i fix it ?
Did you try that method? And when did it start turning off, did you try mpding it or did it just start doing it? Does it he a knock when it turns off or is it at the same place everytime? If it stays turned on in download mode its probably software related also make sure the drivers are installed using kies

Does Odin recognize your phone (com12 or something like that in yellow)
If not then try different USB port or also different cable and computer.
According to my experience if you are able to go to download mode then there is always a way to fix the problem

Flash abyss kernel. Get into abyss kernel by reboot into recovery and do a full wipe (wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and wipe dalvik) then flash a rom of your choice.
Thanks

Sorry for many questions, i am new to this, but learning fast
If you are flashing in Odin bare in mind there are 2 pit files one for the 16gb and one for the 32gb versions of the phone. It wont boot if youve used the wrong pit file

Power off your Note.
Hold Volume down & Home & press Power button. Then when you see the Samsung logo, let go of the Power button. Your phone will boot into Odin/download mode. Press Volume up when asked to. Now you are in download mode.
Connect your phone with usb cable to your computer.
On your computer, run PC Odin. You should see a yellow highlighted COM sign. If you don’t, download Samsung Kies and install it. Then plug-out and plug-in the micro-USB cable to your Galaxy Note and you should see it.
Then click on PDA, and select the pit file then press start.
Sir my advice go to dr ketans thread find pre rooted gb rom for your country start from the begining flash it via pc odin be patient read everything carefully... It is described there...

Seems to be missing some steps
First hold power button until you see power off/restart option, dont release power button instead keep holding power button until you see 'rebooting...' message, then release button, wait until recovery is shown then use power button to step through the options. Once recovery is highlighted, press and hold power button again for about 3 seconds to select that option.

simply pressing power at this stage will just reboot (continue). You need to either press and hold power for a beat or rapid press to get it to jump to next option.
