Can't unlock bootloader (no email from moto) - Moto X Q&A

Anyone else run into the problem of not receiving an email from Motorola with the bootloader unlock code? This is super frustrating.

Mine showed up under the 'promotions' tab, check there?

Dumb question..but spam?
Slapped my Moto

Mine took forever to show up. I gave up and it was there the next morning

I am having the same frustration. Checked in Spam, Promotions and any other area that I could. I submitted mine last night. Although after I submitted for it, it never reverted to another page though and was just a blank webpage. I have no idea if that has anything to do with it at all.

Yeah I'm going on 4 days now. And I've used two different moto x's on three different computers with 3 different browsers. FML. I'm just returning the phones to Motorola. I'm tired of this crap.

Oh wow that stinks! Wish I could help. I did mine on a Saturday afternoon and literally got the email within minutes of requesting it.

Did you try to resubmit ? Maybe a different email?

Yeah, its odd if it isn't instant. Mine have all been there as fast as I could switch browser tabs. There have been times the website has gimped though, so maybe the email portion has been down when you requested the keys.

i guess you could always just call them and they can figure it out. stupid question but maybe you were signed into a google account that you didn't think you were when you clicked on the button to sign in with your google account... i don't remember it telling me what account i actually signed in with or if it told me what email it was sending it to. but i just did it less than a week ago and it was instant. maybe their servers are screwy or something.
i know someone already said it but there is a junk email box in gmail. didn't notice it before i was looking for an email that didn't come. but clearly you already probably checked that. just thought id mention it.
just thought of this, might not matter at all. but maybe the phone needs to be connected to motorola device id or something. wouldn't make sense that it would matter but i had my motorola device id connected to my google account before i tried to get the code. just another idea.

Would the "junk" folder your referring to be the same as the "spam" folder in Gmail? Sorry but is the Motorola Device id stuff in the Moto Care app? I don't have my X set up with the thing of clearing my phone from the Motorola site. Is that what you are referring to?

i have a spam and a junk folder. I don't know why both of them exist but they both do. By motorola device id i didn't mean being able to clear stuff from motorola. that probably needs to be set up in some motorola app that i don't use. i was referencing:
settings>Motorola Device Id (found under the personal heading on the verizon moto x).
when you click that it asks if you want to connect your phone to your google account. Like i said, i doubt it matters at all for getting the unlock code. it shouldn't anyway. but i figured id mention it just in case it does for some odd reason.
edit: just realized the junk folder i was referencing only gets email in it if you tag something as junk. so yes the spam folder was the correct folder i was meaning to say, not the junk folder.

I had that problem of not receiving the email from motorola when I was requesting the code via Motorola's website for my country (Brazil). When I tried using Motorola's USA website I got the email immediately. So try using the website for another country. You don't need a proxy, just change the location on the bottom of the site (http://www.motorola.com/sites/country-selector/index.html)

Ok I finally got it to work. I signed up for another Google account, and logged into the Moto site using the new Google account. I went through the unlock procedure and it worked first time no problem. I have no idea what's wrong on Moto / Google's end and why the emails got lost in space.

[Q] Notification Saying "fwd fwd please call [?phone number]"

Today I saw something really weird, I am asking for an explanation of what it was.
I had my N1 screen locked and in my pocket.
I took it out to check the time... so first I hit the power button to turn the screen on.
As soon as the screen was on I saw what I think is called a "biscuit?" type notification on my phone that was centered in the screen. It said:
"fwd fwd please call [phone number I didn't recognize]"
Below that was two buttons I think for "Call" or "Dismiss".
I hit Dismiss and went on to unlock the phone and check the time but it was the only time I have ever seen that type of notification.
I checked new Emails, Texts, Chats but it wasn't part of any of those.
Sorry I couldn't get a screen capture of it.
Any bright ideas out there?
My configuration:
N1, Tmobile, was rooted prior to manually install gingerbread from update.zip. [I don't think it's rooted anymore]

If anyone did have one of those listed apps, I'd also suggest turning on Google's 2-Step verification for your Gmail account. I unfortunately downloaded the 'Chess' app last week, only to find it didn't actually appear to do anything at all when I opened it on my N1. But within a few days, my Gmail account was hijacked for spam. It's the only correlation I have, and while I have no proof, it's a strong suspicion and probably good advice anyway.

On that note, it's probably not a bad idea to go ahead and install a free mobile antivirus program like Lookout, AVG, or Norton.
I'm not sure if this is the same, but might be something to look at. My voicemail with tmo offers people the option to page instead of leave a message. When they do, I always get some cryptic 'please call [number]' message that shows up like a text.

Not having access to those malicious apps to test with, I can't say for sure. What I can say is that those antivirus apps will detect far more malicious apps than you would without them. Especially when it's free, it doesn't make any sense to not have some sort of protection.
EDIT: As mentioned on the Official Lookout Blog:
Update: We’ve deployed an over-the-air update that protects Lookout users from all known instances of DroidDream.

So at least with the update, yes, Lookout would now detect the DroidDream malware. Again, better safe than sorry.

I think this is what I saw. I have TMo and their visual voicemail app, and with no signal in the building I was working in a caller must have done that paging thing.
It was weird that it didn't look like a text notification.

[SOLVED] My Google account just vanished!

Earlier today when I switched on my phone and tried to access Market, I was asked to re-enter password. I entered two passwords I remembered and I couldn't log in. Then, I tried password recovery. I couldn't answer one call and I couldn't enter the proper recovery code in the second call.
Now, when I try to recovery password, I get an internal error message. All my Google profiles such as Google+ profile and Blogger profile are returning a not found error.
So, what just happened to my Google Account? Was it hacked and someone deleted it? Or, Google deleted it for some violation(without giving me any notice at all)?
How can I get in touch with Google and recover my account? This account is really important to me. I have a lot of stuff linked to it as well as my whole address book.
I was gonna tell you on G+ today. The form you made which I maintained is down as well.

Hmm yea. Looks like every service has gone down. My problem is I don't know if my account was compromised or it's a Google issue.
If my account was compromised and deleted, I have to act fast. Alternatively, if it's a Google issue, I can wait. The problem is that this account had so many of my important contacts, photos, 5000+ bookmarks, few years worth of email and so on. =(

Log in to your Google account from a PC and change password. Try phone again after this.
A couple days ago, I entered the Market and it told me that my account wasn't correct. It didn't allow me to do anything, or change my password. In a last ditch effort, I resynced the Google stuff. That fixed it. I'm not sure if I had the same problem, but you could try that and see what happens.

It says incorrect username and password. Going to recovery page gives an internal error message.
I have been locked out after forgetting password earlier as well but I was able to reset every time. Now, I can't reset either.
Give it a day or two, I was locked out from my phone once, seems an infectious spam mail tried sending out messages to my contacts but Google stopped it before it was able to execute a send function. I was restored after trying with my old pass the next day.

I was able to get to reset password page today. I couldn't reset it yet because the phone which had my SIM acted up and didn't let me read the text.
Nonetheless, this is my guess.
After a certain number of failed attempts to reset password, the password recovery option that was used is blocked for 24 hours. Since I had only one recovery method, it has given the error and locked out my account.

Marshmallow login problem

This is a new one for me, but here it goes:
Coming from a 5.1.1 ROM, a full wipe (just not internal data), then installing one of the two 6.0 ROMs I get the same error upon start up:
After putting in my email address and password, I get the notice "You must login as one of the device owners", or something to that effect. They keywords there would be the device owners...I'm not sure what that means and I've never had a problem with my account.
I've had my same gmail account since 2004 and I'd hate to have to change it only because of Marshmallow.
I haven't seen anyone else experiencing a problem like this, and I'm concerned as to why it seems to be unique in my case. I an NOT encrypted, neither before the install or after (custom kernel).
Unlike Lollipop, there is no "skip" button when logging into a Google account, you HAVE to with Marshmallow upon first install.
Any help would be appreciated.

The first 6.0 ROM I flashed made me reset my password for some reason. No matter how many times I'd enter in the CORRECT password, I was told something wasn't right and got kicked back to the login screen. Once I changed the password on my PC, I went back to the ROM and thats when the scenario in the OP happened.
It looks like I have to wait...or create a new email address possibly?

One question I do have is if I can have multiple gmail accounts linked to one device. I have another gmail account but I looked at the "My Device" settings, and it has no device attached to it and no option to attach one!
Well, yes you can, but you'll have to "attach" the account from the device in question.

I think I just did that, verified phone number, added google account to the 5.1.1 ROM, I'm not sure where else I'd attach the device.

N6 not visible in device manager

Hey guys,
I`am having a problem with my Nexus 6 not beeing recognised in ADM and on the web Google Play site in device manager though it shows up in Google Play and syncing goes without problems. Running full stock MMB29V not rooted.
I contacted Google to look if the issue is beeing caused on their end because i tried everything else to solve the issue on my end.
Things i tried:
1.
1) Go into multitasking and close Android Device manager if it is open.
2) Open Google Settings app. Then go to Security. Uncheck both Android Device manager options. I believe they are Remote Erase and Tracking.
3) Go to Settings > Apps > All > Google Play Services. Clear cache and data.
4) Reboot
5) Back to Google Settings. Recheck both options.
2.
Did a data factory reset
3.
Reflashed the factory image folowed by a data factory reset.
4.
Booted up in safe mode.
ok @gee2012, ill try to make this painless..
now, in my n6, when i go into device manager, it cant find my n6. BUT, if i open my device manager app on my sgs4, it finds my n6 right away. it just seems like an android/google issue.

Weird.
A friend had this same issue while trying to enroll - he got around this by adding a second Google account (you could create a new dummy account I guess if you don't have a second one already) to his phone, and signed up on the preview page using that account.

Could do that, but i want to know whats wrong my account (settings) or at the Google end and why it doesn`t link my phone to my account in the ADM.
Understood, and agreed. You'd want ADM to be able to locate your device in case it goes missing.
i'm exactly with this problem too on my nexus 6p.
i'm not able to see my device on ADM, keeps spining. already did all the troubleshooting i could find including the ones on the original post.
i do have another 2 google accounts on my nexus and no problem with them on finding the device in ADM and also the nexus is showing up on androidbeta enroll devices.
It might be something related with my primary google account since there is no problem on the other 2 google accounts.
The only thing that's different on my primary account is that it is protected with 2 step verification.
it's really weird and i really wanted to enroll to android N on my primary account.

My primary account is 2-step secured too. In Google Dashboard it also shows 2 Nexus 6`s , the primary secured one has the option to remove it from the account and the other non-secured one can`t be removed. Hope Google can solve this annoying issue.
I'm having the same issue. Even my second account doesn't show up.
i turned my location off, then my n6 stopped showing up in device manager. i turned on my location, and my n6 showed up in the device manager.

How To - Google Dialer VVM Activation Steps - YMMV

Ok so I'm posting this because we started to get off topic in the other thread, not because I think you will find it useful lol.
Basically the steps I will outline will trigger your Google Dialer to try and activate VVM. If you are on Sprint like me, all it will do is add the voicemail tab. I've seen posts from others that say the app does import all of their current Voicemails but no new ones after that. Maybe that is carrier specific or maybe if you are signed up for VVM through your carrier it works, I don't personally know.
Anyway, here we go.
What you'll need:
1- A rooted device - I'm guessing this will work on all devices not just our V30s but I haven't tested elsewhere. Feel free to provide feedback if you see this and try it on other phones, and then maybe this post can move to general Android instead of V30.
2- Google dialer installed - mine has been converted to a system app, and I'm part of the beta, so I can update through play store. I am also running magisk modules that may be allowing all of this to happen, such as xml pack, Google framework, and some others. Shout out to their respective devs, thank you.
3 - The app Shortcut Master which is available as a paid app on play store.
4 - some patience because this literally only works sometimes for unknown reasons. Maybe we can narrow down the failure rate with some trial and error but for now I can't tell you why it works sometimes and other times nada. The upside is, there seems to be no I'll effects from trying and failing.
Tldr.
You need root, Google dialer (maybe as as a system app) and the app Shortcut Master to get this done.
You should probably Force close the Google dialer app before you start so the settings take hold. Not sure if you have to, but shouldn't hurt to do it.
Step one:
Open shortcut master. Click search and enter the word "voicemail"
Step two:
You'll see lots of results. Ignore them all and scroll down to ones under the Phone App. Find VoicemailSecretCode and click launch. (I guess you could also just search that instead of just Voicemail)
Step 3:
You'll see a white screen with two options.
Sync
VVM config override < click this one.
Step 4:
Press the top option titled "load current"
You'll see it change some of the fields. This is just pulling in the current config and since you don't have much going on, very little should change.
Step5
Click the Override toggle.
Input your phone number (see pics)
Press back once when done.
Step 6
You should back to the white page with the two options again. This time press sync.
That's it. I'm not sure what makes this work since sometimes it doesn't. If you're hasn't updated with the voicemail section, try power cycling and relaunching dialer. If that doesn't work, clear the cache. If it still doesn't work you can try clearing all data, Force closing, and then following the steps again.
Now you should have the voicemails tab. It will try and activate for a while by sending you a provisioning text. It is going to send this text alot at first so be warned as I don't know if it's a free text (do people still have limited texts??)
You will now have a bit more options in your settings menu under Voicemail, however since it never provisions (or at least mine doesn't) the added options are not accessible.
Enjoy your extra tab of nothingness lol.
Feel free to throw around some thanks
*edit: The 9 attached screenshots are basically all of the steps in order except for the last two which need to be swapped. If you read them left to right you would follow 1-7, then pic 9, then pic 8 would be the last one.

I will just say I've only gotten it fully working on the US998 roms (I haven't tried the steps here yet). So it's very possible some carrier branded roms have stuff that mess with apps accessing voicemails, at least ones that use the carrier's database, not 3rd party ones with their own servers like youmail or Google voice. Maybe because some carriers charge for any kind of visual voicemail. Verizon does for the premium transcribing version. Just my 2 cents. I'll see if following this stuff helps me get it working on the vs996 rom I'm on now and report back if I do.

Curious, Where did you get your port info?
Also, noted that your preloaded part of the VVM ends with CVVM while mine is Omtp. Possibly because tmo supports vvm and Sprint is carrier blocked to their own severs???
Have you received some activation texts since reconfiguring? And have any Voicemails loaded?

So it's very possible some carrier branded roms have stuff that mess with apps accessing voicemails, at least ones that use the carrier's database, not 3rd party ones with their own servers like youmail or Google voice. Maybe because some carriers charge for any kind of visual voicemail. Verizon does for the premium transcribing version. Just my 2 cents. I'll see if following this stuff helps me get it working on the vs996 rom I'm on now and report back if I do.

Since you mentioned Google Voice, I figured it would be a good chance to start the conversation about GV, Sprint, a possible VVM workaround, and a theory I have....
I am sure that someone out there has to know the proper info/settings/specs that would allow us to bypass carrier VM and instead pull from Google Voices VVM service. Or at least I think we can all figure it out through some trial and error.
Right now I have all of my missed calls sent to GV. This allows me to ignore Sprints annoying VM service and paid VVM. All calls bypass sprints VM and instead the message gets transcribed by GVs VVM service. There must be a way to find out what GV ports and packages need to be set and in place in order to tell the dialer to read from there. I've already tried inputting my GV number instead of my Sprint # but all that does is change where the activation texts are sent.
From what I can tell, the Google dialer does not have some VVM server of it's own that it can call on. Nothing in the manifests or code that I could find. It basically only has the ability to piggy back off of a carriers server and relay it into the app as a duplicate (think pop3 / imap).
I believe this is the case because I've seen people post that their dialer absorbed all of their current VVMs but wouldn't find new ones. This probably means that the app is pointed to the place that Vvm are stored either on the device on their carriers server, but they won't get new ones because the app is not authenticated pull data.
So if we can find someone whose Google Dialer pulled in their current batch of VVM and see what their settings look like, we can see what it's pointed at in order to read that data one time and transfer it in. If we can figure out the corresponding file in the GV app, then we ate half way there!
If we can then take that info, and combine it with some knowledge of GV/Google/ and their usual servers ports etc. I think we can create a work around that would allow everyone to get free VVM by setting up a dummy (or real like in my case) Google voice number to use its transcription service instead of the carrier.
Side note for anyone who wants to hear my little conspiracy theory....
Sprint until very recently let you integrate a Google voice account. It's slightly different than just having the Google voice app. Not going to go through all the differences, but basically it was possible to have you GV # carrier integrated until recently.
I think the reason Sprint no longer does this is because Google's VVM rollout. I.e. if GV was still integrated, a quick change of the settings above and it would have properly activated Google's VVM service to work instead of the Sprint version.

Phone number.

I just followed the directions you gave. When I selected load, that's what popped up.
I haven't had any text.

I know with a custom ROM on T-Mobile, the visual voicemail in the Google phone app works with no issues.
Also found this. Any ideas?

Interesting. Just so we can start to trial and error our way to a better world, would you mind sharing a couple details? I may ask everyone to answer a few of these and see if we can start to work our way through this and get to some working versions.
Your Carrier:
Current Carrier VVM status: (i.e do you already have a vvm app o your phone that works, do you pay for it, is it the stock carrier app, etc.)
Since you did the GDialer Configuration Update(the steps in post 1)...
Is your Google Dialer VVM working now?
Have you received provisioning texts? No (you already answered this one)
If you already had a VVM service, did you have transcribed messages in your carrier VVM app?
If yes, did they transfer into your Google Dialer VVM tab?

Good find! I would venture a guess and say that you found something useful there.
Since it looks like that grayed out image is pointing to your TMO VVM box, I would suggest using the two ports listed there and trying them in the Google Dialer Configuration. Meaning the 443 and 8082 #s. I am not sure which is which, but if you try them both maybe it will point the dialer at the stored VVM data.

Damn, it would have been cool if we figured it out that fast.
Hopefully some more people will post their configurations and we can make some progress. Thanks for trying.
