Browser with text reflow like Opera - Moto X Q&A

Does any other browser do text reflow like Opera does? Not having it and having to scroll horizontally kinda defeats the purpose in a mobile phone...

The text reflow action is extremely useful. I had it on the Nexus AOSP browser I sideloaded onto my old Bionic and loved it. That browser doesn't work on the X and the AOSP browser in Play store is pretty good, but doesn't have the reflow capability.

Well, on my Moto X double tapping in Chrome just zooms in or zooms out. It does not wrap the larger text to the screen. You still have to scroll horizontally to see the whole line.

Chrome will reflow to a specified zoom level that you set in its settings and is probably the next best thing. Opera reflows text as you zoom in and out, but not as reliably as it should.

Dolphin reflows text.

Does it? I tried both regular and the jet pack and all it does is zoom without wrapping text.

I just checked and my zoom setting in Chrome is 125%. I went to a Yahoo site about the Chinese trade balance which has text across the whole screen. I double-tapped to zoom and the text got bigger, but did not reflow. I still had to scroll horizontally. If you go to a full text screen do you really get reflow on the text? It is certainly not working for me.

I just tried with the Dolphin browser I installed from Play yesterday. Reflow works on two sites I tried it on.

Try settings/web content/Auto-fit pages set to on.
I'm using Regular Dolphin, Jet Pack is included now.

Double tap to zoom reflow's the text on LegacyGT, are you trying to pinch zoom further and have it reflow?
BTW What are you driving, I have a 05 Outback XT so I visit LegacyGT often.

No luck for me. Tap or pinch just zooms, doesn't reflow.
I had a 06 Forester XT, Sandy took it. Now have 11 Legacy H6.

Have you tried this site with Opera Mobile? It wraps text on that site for me as I zoom in and out.

I'm a fan of Naked Browser too but it no longer does text reflow since the KitKat update. I can work around it much of the time using the text zoom option but it's not the same. I still need reflow sometimes depending on the web site. Opera does a fair job but does not allow zooming on all sites. Not sure I'm willing to use Dolphin.

Huh? I'm on note3 so I guess I dont have that problem. That would drive me up the wall.

[Q] Low Quality Wallpapers when on SD

Hi,
I was testing my phone's graphics power. I'm using latest MIUI, so I downloaded the same wallpapers that MIUI has by default and copied them to SD, but when I set them as my wallpaper, their quality is reduced alot. But when I set it via the default wallpapers that MIUI has (the same wallpaper) it gets alot alot better quality than the one set from SD. It's the same for all other images, not just MIUI wallpapers...
(By the way when I view the wallpaper image in my PC its quality/res is fine)
*bump* anyone please?
I figured out that when you want to select an image via wallpaper gallery to set it as wallpaper, the gallery app zooms on a specific location of the image (the square cadre). Does anyone know how to disable that zooming feature so it displays the whole wallpaper and doesn't focus on just one specific place of it?
So no one knows how to?
Don't use the gallery app to set wallpapers.. Use other tools, search the market.

I think you didn't read/understand what I said completly... that's my problem!! if you zoom on it via the square it will reduce the quality, and the square can't cover all the picture or you can't even remove it!!

The square can cover most of the picture, with the exception of the proportions (Max the height, but maybe a little of the sides get cut off). Or at least, I can do it...

No worries.
How do you mean you can't stretch the square? I just grab top and bottom, and stretch (note; if you touch a single point, it zooms in for some retarded reason)

Yeah I have no problems stretching. But wether I stretch or not, when I set it as wallpaper it kinda zooms in to the square location and it reduces picture quality...

Personally I use dodel wallpaper maker. Its in the market for 99 cents. It allows for full image wallpapers and also portrait non-scrolling.
Many others that just want a higher quality non reduced image use wallpaper set and save, its free.

You need to download hi res pictures and stretch the square to cover as much as possible. Gallery has nothing to do with it... If you zoom something it gets pixelated.

You guys actually helped solve a problem for me. My Photo Editor always acted bizarre; even before the update. When I'd try to crop a picture it wouldn't allow me to move the crop lines beyond a certain proportion or point and it drove me crazy. My Photo Editor looks like OP's after the update. I cleared app data via Application Manager and it didn't change anything. I remember taking an update for Photo Editor from Samsung Apps. Apparently, it's not compatible with the N3. Once I uninstalled the update everything went back to normal.
You might try uninstalling the update to Photo Editor (assuming you accepted it) and see if it helps.

Little things 4.4 has that you've always wanted stock

I'll start...
T9 dialer, I noticed the other day I don't have to scroll through a list of thousands of contacts or search names, I can just open the dialer press 726 and Ramiro shows as the contact. Or 666 and Mom is who I see. 262 gets me Amanda. Etc. This is something I've been waiting for Google to implement since I got into android, so fairly exciting.
What else have you guys found?
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Last check 4.3 and i think even 4.2 had the smart dialer (T9). I guess i don't have "thousands" of contacts in my phone so maybe that's why i didn't really need/use it.
They have upped the ante massively with voice recognition and particularly voice search with it being in my opinion the killer feature of 4.4. Google now while improved is still an annoying intrusion that I disabled after a day. I disliked it immediately but like to give these things a little time to see if they grow on me. The GEL is an embarrassing failure in my opinion and someone should lose their job for thinking it would be a good idea to fix the search bar on any screen let alone all of them. I know 2 others now with the N5 and we all kicked the launcher to the curb in short order.
One thing that I've seen little talk of is the stock dialer. I'm not actually sure if it's kit Kat or Google? I expected to dislike it but I actually like it and have continued to use it. It has some flaws like not searching the call log but the ability to start typing in the name of a local place and have it's number pop up before you can finish is very useful and if it wasn't for the amazing voice search (which also works in the dialer) I would probably list the dialer as the single best stock feature.

Word wrap complaints in Kit Kat?

I'm surprised not a lot of people are complaining about this.
I switched to Kit Kat (CM11) on my Nexus 4. Everything was working out perfectly. Some features that were in 10.2 were not there, but no biggie; I figured it takes time to port everything.
Then, I opened my browser (Dolphin HD), and noticed that word wrap was not working. Odd.
So I tried Firefox. No word wrap. Getting pissed at this point. So I try AOSP (built in browser). Still no go. Word wrap ONLY works in Opera (of course), with the word wrap option enabled.
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=62378
Googling it, it looks like Google actually regressed instead of progressed. How the heck do you take something as fundamental as word wrapping and remove support for it from the OS in the name of "progress"? If you read the bug thread on Google, they claim it's "WAI", which is Working As Intended.
Please.
This user put it best.
Are you google people purposely pretending not to understand the problem? Is this some diversionary tactic to avoid acknowledging that you've broken something?
One more time just in case you really don't understand. We are talking about TEXT WRAPPING. In the old browser when you zoom a page to a legible size, the text reflows so that you don't have to scroll from side to side. Saying that it "works as intended" is saying "yes, we removed a vital feature for no reason, too bad".
Click to collapse
This is actually a deal breaker for me, so I simply restored a nandroid of CM10.2, and everything works great.
What do you guys think about this? Again, I'm slightly taken aback that not more people are complaining about this. It's sort of a fundamental thing in mobile OS acceptance.
Hey man, I'm sorry you miss that feature. Text reflow on zoom like how it used to work really broke a lot of webpages. The chrome browser is pretty smart with its auto-zoom by double tap, but it won't reflow the text fields.
I'm sorry that it messed up your use case so badly, but I'm glad that we have root on our phones and can load the software that works best for us. FWIW, I think the Opera Android browser is pretty serviceable compared to Dolphin HD, which is also not a bad browser.

You mean like text reflow? Dolphin with Jetpack does that although not every single webpage supports it.

Yes that's what the OP was saying. A lot more browsers use to do this including stock before the KK update.
Doesn't bother me so much as a small screen isn't good for web browsing at the best of times, it does however seem a step backwards from Google though.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
Text reflow does come with some chaos though, flicking a bit upon each zoom and resetting, dolphin always seemed to be the most stable doing it. It's also the all-around most feature rich AND fluid browser out there, especially on ART.
I agree that word wrap/text reflow implmentation on Android isn't perfect, but it's almost essential to browsing on devices like ours.
Dolphin has Jetpack integrated by default for KitKat. I can confirm that even though this is the case, and that Jetpack is explicitly enabled in Dolphin browser settings, it does not work at all. Zooming in then double tapping simply zooms out to the extent of the largest content (text or images) displayed on the screen. Doing the same thing (zooming in, then double tapping) on previous Android OSes (Jelly Bean, etc.) forces a word wrap.
