Camera Lens Replacement Glass

I recently dropped my hd2 and the glass around the lens broke off now the lens is exposed. is there a case that will cover it or a camera lens replacement.
Update: I know im not the only one in America with a glass crack where my lens is and would like to know where to get this fixed or a part site?

I just dropped and broke my camera lens as well today.

mines also cracked after 2 weeks of use....called customer service and they did a manufacturer's warranty and got the replacement right away

Check on eBay - they have direct replacement lenses - OEM. You will have to figure out a way to get some double sided tape to mount it for most of them.
VERY CHEAP - fortunately they are available.

found a replacement on ebay. you dont need to take apart phone or anything. i just super glued around the lens and popped in. good as new.

They are cheaper on ebay. just ordered one.

Get the Otterbox Defender. I think it is the only case out there truly protecting the camera lens.

Since it's already cracked, use a knife or something and carefully pry into the cracked area and pull up the cracked glass. Thats how I did it. Just becareful not to push too hard.

Sorry, theres no video or walk through that I know of. As long as you pry off the broken lens its simple from there. Just pry off the lens and then just stick the new one in. Theres not much more than that. You don't have to take the phone apart or anything.

A small sewing needle is a great tool to use. Just pry out the broken piece or you can even do it from the side. What I found when I did it was that there was a ring of adhesive that is difficult to reset correctly once you take the broken lens out. I actually just took the needle and scraped off the adhesive and placed the new lens in so that it's below the surface (beveled, I guess you could say). It stays in just like the old one -- otherwise you'll scratch it the minute you put it down on the table.

What happens if it breaks again now that you used super glue?
...I used some 3M double sided tape and a hole punch. I cut it to size and punched a hole in the middle...carefully cleaned all the old adhesive off and dropped it in. Its not going anywhere and absolutely no dust can get under it...if it breaks again (which it may...so I ordered two because the price was so cheap) it will be much easier to remove than super glue.

Replacing the GT-P7310 Digitizer

Ok, so I've managed to gather a few good quality scratches on my screen, and I've got a replacement new digitizer ready to go, with the necessary pry tools, screwdrivers etc.
One question though. The new digitizer has a pre-applied adhesive. Do I need any double sided adhesive tape as well? Seen a reference to 1mm double sided adhesive on an Amazon ad, but not entirely convinced it's needed.

I can now answer my own question.
No, I didn't need the 1mm wide double sided adhesive. In fact, the whole process was remarkably easy. New digitizer is fitted, and fully functional. Very happy, my tab is beautiful again.

Just so people, myself included, know where to look for the thing if they ever need it.

New digitizer was bought from ebay. Its a perfect replacement, brand new, but I suspect not official as I noticed the identification lettering on the ribbon cable is different. Could be OEM though.
The whole process was pretty simple. Used a tool like a heavy guitar pick to pry the back case off the chassis, with a suction cup to pull the chassis away from the back case. Check the teardown on techreplubic for more on that.
I used my wifes hair drier to soften the adhesive holding the digitizer on the chassis, then used the same guitar pick tool to break into the adhesive seal, and worked my way round slowly, before finally peeling the digitizer away.
Then just cleaned off any residual adhesive (there was barely any left, it all stayed on the old digitizer). Peeled the protective films off the back of the new digitizer, lined it up, and stuck it down.
Trickiest thing is making sure you're in a pretty dust free area so you don't get any specks on the LCD before sticking the new glass down. And be careful pulling up the brown retainer bar on the ribbon termination, you need to release that before disconnecting the ribbon cable, and then flick it back into place once the new ribbon cable termination is slotted in.

How to reuse screen protectors (glass ones too!)

Heya guys,
I recently bought a clarivue glass screen protector for my note 2. screwed up the lining up the first time, then when i tried to reapply it, i messed it up because there was too much dust underneath.
I thought to my self 'man, theres too much dust for a little piece of scotch tape to remove'
then i thought to myself 'what if i use two big fat pieces of scotch tape and tape the complete underside (the sticky side) of the screen protector to remove all the dust at once, and then peel off and reapply?'
guess what? it works. I used two of the widest scotch tape i could get, and taped the complete underside of the screen protector. then peeled it off as if it were the protective layer for the screen protector. got a perfect application after doing this, no dust underneath at all!!!
So, for all you guys who payed $20-50 for expensive screen protectors and dont want to throw them away, this will save you heartache and money.

OMG, I was literally just thinking about how to fix my screen protector mishap (dust underneath)! Thanks for the idea, probably try it out tomorrow.

Best way to remove dust is using a lint roller. Use it on your phone's screen prior to applying any screen protector. You can also remove dust from the sticky side of the protector

Thanks guys! It's so funny you mentioned this as I also bought a clarivue glass screen protector and have the same issue! The sticky side attracts so much dust even if you think you're in a dust free environment! I was thinking about washing mine but I think I will give this a go tonight as I have one screen bubble that's annoying me!
Also when you say scotch tape do you mean the brown parcel packing tape or the semi-transparent magic tape one?

i used the transparent one.
although if your tape is thick, theres a chance that there might be a line of dust where the tape overlaps. if you're worried about that, go to your local newsagent and buy a roll of contact (the stuff you use to laminate/cover books). that stuff costs 50c for about a square metre or so, and you can cut a piece that is big enough to cover your entire screen protector.
this stuff is magical!!!!!

Any chance you guys could post some pictures of the Clarivue glass on your note 2?

One I get mine cleaned up and bubble free I'll try and put a few up. Cheers.

Any technique of how to apply glass screen protector. My sp does not adhere at the edges.

A technique that I used on my previous phone was to apply the sp in the bath room with the shower running hot. Wait for the room to stream up then start to install the sp. You can wait till someone is using the shower like a girlfriend... Because it would be weird if you did it while your mom, dad, sister or brother was in the shower. :silly:

Ive known this technique since the first PSP came out(its not even necessary anymore nowadays). Im talking about the glass screen protector not sticking at the edges.

Its not going to stick all the way to the edges since the glass on the note 2 is beveled around the edge(has a slight downward curve) so the screen protector can't make contact

I used the shower steam method last night and it helped a great deal! managed to get a perfect install and got rid of 99% of those pesky bubbles. Just waiting for it to adhere through the 48hours on the edges. Importantly I don't have any on the screen. Can't even tell there's a protector on with this. Also thumbs up for the tape idea. I used two large strips of brown parcel tape as was able to clean up my protector like new before reapplying! :laugh:

Damn right! The only thing that annoys me is trying to lift it up again to realign I think my nails are making the adhesive raise up so I need to push it down otherwise the edge won't sit properly.

I totally just did this and it worked wonders!!! I had dust under mine from start!!

Corner of screen coming apart

The corner of my glass has started coming up from the rest of the phone. It looks like some kind of foam glue used to hold it together. The phone is perfect otherwise. Is there any way to repair this other than buying a new screen and digitizer assembly? I can attach a picture if this description is not clear.
I also would rather not remove the glass from the LCD as this looks difficult and risky.

It turns out you can remove the entire screen assembly from it's metal and plastic frame with a little heat and a thin plastic prying tool (I used a guitar pick). I tried LCD tape but it was not strong enough. I ended up using loctite plastic bonder and it seems to be holding strong. I just hope it lasts long enough so a new phone comes out which can adequately replace my Turbo.

Removing Whitestone dome

Anyone have to remove this whitestone dome from their note 8? Or have you had any experience removing one from a previous device? Just curious as to if its going to ruin my phone or be a hassle to remove one day.

Pulled 2 off now. VERY easy. why would it ruin your phone?
snag a corner with your fingernail and push a playing card under and slowly move it around and you can take it all off in one piece no damage.

Idk, reading comments on youtube videos and people talking about the glue "damaging" your device and blah blah blah. You know how youtube comments go, take it with a grain of salt. Anyways, just wanted to get some verification, thanks for the reply.

Did ypu ever attempt to reapply once you've removed it? And if so, what did you use to remove the cured adhesive on the Glass protector?
I wanna use the 2nd bottle to reapply

I re-applied the 2nd. I used a 3M xylene based adhesive remover I had while wearing nitril gloves. Even with teh adhesive remover it was hard to get it off, it didn't just melt off. I had to use my fingernails through the gloves to "scrape" it off. Then I had to make sure I got every bit off and was thorough. Once I was sure it was clean I used mild detergent to clean off the xylene remover and washed it then a alcohol cleaning pad for glasses etc... finally it was ready to re-install and it looks great with the second bottle of glue. I did note some faint micro swirls when looking at it clean but they are invisible with the glue. I never inspected it that closely when applying new so they may have been there the entire time.
Pay particular attention to the curved space. I thought I had it all cleaned up but there were still spots of blue on the curved edges. I used magnification to make seeing the adhesive easier.
Adding, this is the adhesive remover I used, I got it from a local automotive store. I saw there were cheaper sprays that were xylen based. I used a fair amount, it might be easier to find a small container and soak it? The thing I found was that even with the glue loose and floating on the glass it could still get "smushed" back on with handling so I poured it across the glass a few times to rinse:

Weirdly enough, when I removed my first attempt at installation the glue had set so well that it was an exceptionally easy removal from the protector itself - it came off in one clean tough plastic-y sheet (unless maybe there is a plastic layer on the back of the whitestone glass?), and removed the domes with it. Removal of the glass from the phone was easy too, just start from one corner and apply even pressure, lifting the screen - it'll bend slightly and you'll see the glue separating from the screen, just be patient with it and you'll likely not break the glass.
All the responses here are correct though, it's a very easy removal, and loca glue doesn't do anything to the glass. A little bit of iso/ethanol will remove any traces of streaking/residual glue.

SquidgyB, did you reapply the Whitestone Dome screen protector after you initially removed it and if so, did it cause any issues with your phone? I have had the same thing happen (came off as a plastic type sheet) and I'm not sure if that's a layer of the screen protector or screen, so I'm hesitant to reinstall the screen protector in case the glue damages the screen this time?
