A line of stuck pixels... What to do? - Moto X Q&A

As the title says my screen has a vertical line of stuck pixels. Its only apparent on a blue background, so I deduced that only the blue led is affected.
I haven't given the apps that claim to fix pixels a try yet because I'm doubtful it'll work. What do you think?
Also I recently rooted and am on kitkat. I used wpnomo in the process therefore my write protection is off.
So if I were to flash 4.4 unrooted, would my warranty be valid again despite write protection being off?
Edit: a little research pointed out the fact that those pixel fixing apps won't work on amoled screens. So I'm solely relying on the possibility of sending it back now I guess.

Yes but since I have write protection off does that void warranty as well since it is proof I rooted my device? Would they exchange it anyway?

I don't really think they'll notice. I could be wrong.

Did you unlock the boot loader? If not you'll probably be OK. Just make sure you unroot and have stock on it.
If you did unlock the bootloader....well you read the warning when you did it. SOL. Lol

I've got the AT&T variant so my bootloader is still locked.
For now the line isn't too bothersome because more often than not it's lit up by the other LEDs I'm guessing. The only time the line was entirely dead was on a completely blue background. So I'll just stick with it for now and I'll send it in if it gets annoying.
Thanks for helping!

[Q] Any ideas on how to remove the AT&T logo from Motomaker Moto X?

The AT&T logo, although the least offensive of all carrier logos (since it doesn't actually make any mention of AT&T), is still a nuisance that spoils the backside of the beautiful customized Moto X from MotoMaker. Anyone have any ideas on how to remove this? It is silkscreened, and not etched, which has me believing that there could be a way to safely remove this without cosmetically affecting the backside.
I remember on my Atrix 4G back in the day (seems eons ago), all you had to do was take a coin and lightly scratch off the AT&T logo on the back, and it would come off as if scratching a lottery ticket. I don't want to take any such risks with my Moto X before hearing your guys' thoughts on this.
It looks like there's a carrier XML file in system ui so until we get a custom ROM the carrier label will remain

I'd be afraid that the sugar cube method would ruin the soft touch coating

Sadly the sugar cube relies on the back being harder than the logo which I doubt is the case with soft touch and I also wouldn't risk nail polish, maybe just spend your spare time rubbing at it.

Would like to know this for Verizon's logo as well... seems like it should be easy, but I don't want to be the guinea pig.
I used 91% Isopropyl alcohol and some q-tips, you will end up with a shadow logo in certain light angles.

Any non-US carrier moto X is not assembled in Fort Worth. So if you have a Canadian or Latin American phone, then yes, your boot loader can be unlocked.

Yes, I'm already rooted, why the two different assembly locations? I also assume the firmware is installed during the assembly, does this mean the Chinese assembled unit has a non encrypted bootloader while the units assembled in the US obliviously are encrypted?

The america units are made here because of motomaker.
Sprint , us cellular and t mobile units are made in USA and can have bootloader unlock so not necessarily true.
The software images for all the us ones the background is the red white and blue "wood" too
it can now be removed without root. check the video

TMobile Motomaker Bootloader Unlock

Currently the motomaker version of the tmobile moto x doesn't allow bootloader unlocking.
Does anyone know if this is set to change in the future?

Have they specifically said its not allowed or have they just not added them to the unlockable database yet? I was told it can take some time for them to add them to the database. Also, the unlocking website had problems yesterday and wouldn't unlock any phones period.

The Motorola website says its supported so I'd post on the official Motorola forum and ask for them to look into it.
I just got my motomaker T-Mobile device and I can't unlock the bootloader. That is the only reason I bought the t-mobile version. I think motorola wants us to be stuck with the stupid black and white device.
Ok I thought it was just me but after reading this thread I know it's not. I just got my motomaker tmobile moto x today and no dice on the bootloader unlock. Got on the phone with Motorola support and they are clueless when it comes to the bootloader. I don't get what the difference would be between a colored one and black/white one that would cause any sort of differentiation on the bootloaders.

They will likely be in two different categories so I'm thinking they just haven't got around to confirming that but I would like to find out before the end of my return window. Support does seem pretty clueless.
different model number?
Can anyone confirm the model number for the T-Mobile MotoMaker version and the Dev Edition version? I thought they were one and the same which is why I went with the MotoMaker version...
T-mobile before motomaker was XT1053 - same as dev edition - and had unlockable bootloader. Is it different now?
Reading the forums at the motorola website it appears the they need to enter each phone into the system manually. I hope it is only a matter of a few days and then I can unlock.

[Solved] Rogers version ineligible device to unlock bootloader

Hey! Anyone else with a Rogers xt1058 get device not eligible to unlock bootloader on the Motorola site? I've read about these issues... but doesn't seem to be common to rogers versions. I have messaged Motorola support... Which I'm sure will be a slow process. Lol
Wonder if how I got it has anything to do with it? I bought it off a guy who says he won it at work...a cell shop. It was still wrapped in box. I unlocked it to work on Telus and all is fine. Great phone.
Could any part of that story ...buying it from a guy, not in a store...or unlocking it for telus...have to do with the bootloader unlocking issues?
Its never been on the Rogers network either.
I am not too interested in flashing Roms...mostly just want root. And preferably custom recovery...which I need an unlocked boot loader for. No way am I messing with much without a nandroid backup. Lol
I see you can maybe root at least... But I'm no rookie, and the instructions still seem like a handful. I'm more Samsung experienced. So not a wiz with adb.....fastboot and stuff. I've used them a bit on my N7...but not much.
Any insight would be appreciated.

I've had the error with a Rogers phone, the unlock server was having issues at the time and they resolved it the next day. Are you 100% sure it is a Rogers phone? You can verify with the software version.

Assuming that's the rogers version, I am wondering how he got it...prize..or some other way....if it not being on Rogers ever...cause I unlocked it...if that plays into it at all.
I'll definitely try the Motorola site when I'm home tonight again...and keep trying until I hear from Motorola support.
I suppose if it is a US version that can't be boot loader unlocked...I'll have to figure out the root method and live with that.
Thanks!
Sent from my Moto X cell phone telephone...
I did put in Rogers when I carrier unlocked it... If that means anything.
Sent from my Moto X cell phone telephone...
Yep, its a Rogers phone. The sim unlocking portion will have nothing to do with the bootloader unlock. Try again tonight, be sure to remove the spaces in the key when after you've pasted it into the Motorola website. It will have 4 or maybe 5 of them after the cut and paste that need to be removed. When it didn't work for me several other people had posted about it the same day. I also posted on the official Motorola forums and told them the server was broken, someone passed the message to the correct person and the next day it worked fine.
Yeah, I'm sure I read your forum posts there. Lol
I am definitely going to try over and over or until I hear from Motorola. My gut says it's something with my phone... Just cause I haven't read of anyone having an issue right now. Except Mexico or somewhere near there.
Hopefully it was just their site. We'll see.
Sent from my Moto X cell phone telephone...
Yup. Got home from work, tried to unlock bootloader and boom. Done. Their site must have been messed up last night.
Funny story too....got an email back from a lady at Motorola support saying I can unlock my phone for different carriers...on my own....that the Rogers version does not come carrier unlocked. I sent a polite reply saying I didn't ask that....I clearly asked about unlocking the boot loader. It even said that in the email subject line. LOL. Wow.....not gonna count on Motorola support for much in the future.
So...charging phone...then twrp..then titanium backup and I can start tweaking.
Thanks again!

For fun you might want to throw the AT&T or tmobile(retail) 4.4 kitkat on to the phone. Both will work fine.
I plan on flashing whatever I can find for sure. I'll check that out first.
Just seeing what I can mess with first. Did a stock nandroid and after I get everything just right... Another. Then I can play with roms.
The moto xposed module is awesome.
Thanks

Read the thread in Moto X General titled "China Middleman Back?"
This is currently the ONLY way to unlock a NON-DE Verizon Moto X
I suggest doing it ASAP - its impossible to know when the Chinaman will lose access to the database.
Good Luck.

oh nice.
If only there were a Q&A section for topics like this...
Also, get the DE edition, otherwise you're taking a chance on if you'll be able to get a valid unlock code.
Sent from my Moto X
@ry_t keep in mind that the bootloader unlock code is unique to each phone. So if you need to replace your phone for any reason, you'll have to get another unlock code.
If you do not have the Developer Edition X for Verizon, you can try buying the code from the Chinese Website/MiddleMan. But again, you'd need to buy another code if you need your phone replaced (like warranty).
This likely does void your warranty too.
If you get the Dev Edition, the code is free from moto's web site, and it doesn't void your warranty.
And as imnuts alluded too, this should be in the Q&A section, rather than Dev section.

android 6.0 cant relock bootloader for rma

hey guys, phone is broken did factory restore with nexus tool kit. and im trying to relock the bootloader. but when the phone restarts he bootloader is still unlocked. any help?
Relocking the bootloader is too much trouble. It might blow the QFuse as well. Then you're really screwed. Moto/Google won't take it back without a lot of fees
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
Maybe stop using toolkits, and learn how to use the actual commands... which google DOES document for you...

Covers the commands for changing the state of the bootloader.

Google don't care about the bootloader state.
"Fastboot oem lock" used to relock. I heard that with Marshmallow Google changed the magic word "oem" to something like "flash". Haven't tried it.
