[Q] Cost?

Anyone have any idea about what the consumer cost will be once it is ready to come out to the public? Just wanted to start this discussion so we can speculate, etc. I have heard far under $1500.00 but who really knows right? The fact that it does not have a built in date module should help, but like any technology it won't be cheap. What do you all think?

yeah i doubt that it will be the same price as the prototype they are selling to devs right now. So I'm guessing, it'll be between $500-$700, considering that in the past google likes to have much better prices compared to their competitors. (ex: Nexus 4 vs iPhone5).
I've also heard rumors of apple creating some sort of watch (which i'm predicting will be googles main competing product with the glasses), so the price of google glasses will probably be a bit less than those.

But i don't think they are really in the same competitive field as each other, one is kinda a watch to look at time and maybe some sort of video call on your wrist, whilst the other kinda adds an interface to life. they are too different.
besides knowing apple, and apple will be apple, their watch will be "revolutionary" and will cost like a gazillion dollars.
It's kinda really hard to estimate the price on the glasses,
but i know i can't wait to get a pair!

Will be exciting when we have tons of people walking around the the glasses on. I guess I will have to switch back to contacts as they don't look like they will fit over my current glasses.

When they are eventually available to consumers you'll probably be ready for new glasses anyway.

I can't see it being this $500+ everyone is predicting. It will most likely have only a single core CPU, 256-512mb ram, limited GPU, and lacking the cost of a large glass display. I see it being more around $150-$250

I don't know. I think the technology itself will drive it to the $500-$700 range. I will definitely buy it is it's $150-$300. But if it's any higher I'd have to see some user reviews. The videos look great but I want some testimonials.
The irony will not be lost on me that I just had LASIK performed two years ago to escape these things...

Its a new thing. I think it will start at $800. But when the crappy chinese companys start building it, it will go down extremly fast. Thats what also happend with touchscreen smarthpones.

Are you kidding me? This is Google we are talking about here, I'd bet it would have at minimum a 1.2 gigahertz dual core and a gig of ram. This still could be really cheap, but they have to decide how expensive they want it to be. I'm buying no matter what the price is.

Why to use such processor and RAM, if Glass will be only additional device to a smartphone.

It won't cost no more than a smart phone. Google are known for there cheap prices and quality. They will use cheaper material than the 1500 glasses and cut cost. If it cost a lot the price will drop because they won't sell enough units to make a profit.

I don't think the material will be cheaper. The prototype is expensive, because it is a prototype, which generally tend to be expensive. However, when mass produced, they will really come down. I have a hunch that Google is looking for people who will really put Glass to the test, hence they are asking for what you will do with it. Who knows, there could be reward of some kind for the testers.
Besides, I don't think Google will sell the metal band with all models. They are in process of talking to some sun-glass manufacturers and if all goes well, you will be looking at Ray Ban and such frames, capable of mounting the actual Glass hardware on. In addition, you will also be able to attach any prescription glasses on these.
This will mostly be an add on device to your phone. Like the Sony smartwatch and stuff. It will have some computing happening in it, but the majority will be offloaded to your phone (like the smartwatch). So, like touch-and-pair, then go everywhere. Glass does have WiFi for standalone operations, but no cellular chip, so it has to be tethered to your phone. Hence, calling and stuff will be routed through your phone instead of direct communication. WiFi also means that as long as your phone and Glass share the same WiFi, they can connect to each other, no matter the distance.

There is a device available now that has almost all of the required components, called the Recon Mod Live. It's a snap-in hmd for ski goggles that retails for $399. It has the optics to use the tiny screen, Bluetooth to talk to a phone, onboard gps, and a pretty decent battery. It even has an SDK for writing your own apps. The only thing it's missing is a camera. It's also quite ugly, as it's not intended to be seen on it's own. It hides completely inside the goggles. I think it's a very good product for price comparison. I would not be surprised to see Google glasses come in around $400-500.

It's not about the profit. Google wants Glass to be popular, just like Android.
One way to increase the popularity of a product is to sell it at a low price, just like they did with the Nexus 7 or the Nexus 4.
300 dollars would be a decent price.

Completely agree. Functionality wise, I do not see the difference minus a minor convenience to not look down at your hand

Galaxy S5 Active -- I feel betrayed

How do you feel about upcoming S5 Active with better build quality, bigger screen, more sensors and quite 2x cheaper? It's just 25 days since start of S5 sales when they sold 10 mln devices, and now they are going to launch Active in July. I feel angry with Samsung for such misleading marketing.

It's a statistical fact that every time a phone is made another is made after. If this disappoints you id stick to Morse code or maybe those cans with string.
I buy my phone based on what i want at the time didn't you do the same? It's a buyers market and it's not going to stay still just because you want the latest

Galaxy S series phones were positioned as a flagship series. And Active phones were a bit of "S Lite", they shared the name "S", had weaker CPU/GPU @ less MHz, less Mpix, cheaper display, nevertheless the price was quite the same compated to S-parent..
Now they make a phone with almost indentical hardware excepting the Snapdragon 800 instead of 801, better screen, better body and gonna sell it below $600 compared to my S5's price of $850!
When I buy a flagship, I'd like to own a flagship for a year or so, not for a couple of months. And yes, this is also a question of money and vanity.

I will bet you it isn't gonna be half the cost of an S5. Even if gsmarena says so.
And a successor to the S4 Active was bound to happen, so if you really wanted it you could have waited.
I don't see how it's misleading if they keep their mouth shut...I don't recall them denying an S5 Active.

The phone is ugly as hell and bulky. Please, don't cry.

Galaxy note 5 is the new Windows 8

I've owned Samsung galaxy Notes 2,3 and 4 but for the first time I'm going to give this next edition a miss.
No SD card or removable battery is like Windows 8 without the start button and will IMHO prove to be a similar disaster for Samsung.
However, it's not just this as the specs feel more like a downgrade and a stop-gap, the equivalent of a Note 4s.
So I'm in the market for a new phone from a different manufacturer and looking around at what's coming up.
Hopefully they'll 'take note' (pardon the pun) for Note 6!

People posting around here like they have already used a Note 5 when we do not know the final spec yet and what else it may bring.

Not sure under which rock you live but it has been raining and Samsung's roof is leaking. We already know that it's going to be using a 1440p screen, 4Gb DDR4 ram, Exynos 7422 SoC, same camera as the S6, and the same NAND as well. The only "new" thing they are going to introduce has something to do with audio quality. So no sd-card nor swappable battery. Note 5 is also going to be sporting the same ****ty touchwiz version as the S6/S6 Edge, that is even more flawed than the version for the Note 4 considering it is running on better hardware yet somehow performs worse.

No I haven't, but calling a phone that you have not used yet ****ty and so on is not exactly smart. The specs don't tell the whole story and it may have many improvements over the S6 and Edge in its TW by the time it gets released.
Unless you have played with a fully functional retail unit of the Note 5, I'd suggest reserving judgement.
Like I said, people acting like they have already used a Note 5 without knowing everything about it. A lot can be changed between now and release, especially in terms of software.

I dont think its close mindedness, but more like a major letdown to the fans of the Note series.
Aside from the s pen, folks loved the note for its flexibility in storage, and its ease of using it for days with spare batteries and such. Sure the giant screen was part of it, but those other things turned out to be important parts of what made the note series such a "cult" hit..
Now, with alot of those things disappearing, its easy to understand why so many folks are going to abandon the Note series.
It doesnt mean they are closed minded, they are just upset that some of the major features that kept them coming back to the Note series wont be there any more.
And you cant blame people for that..

There are now cases that can bring MicroSD support and so on, but I say lets wait and see what happens at Unpacked.
These rumours have gone up and down, 1st it had a 4100mAh battery and now its 3000mAh, some report Exynos 7422 and others 7420, but I guess the 7422 will be international and 7420 will be USA. Some report the Dual Sim variant will have a MicroSD slot yet the S6 Duos never had a MicroSD slot, and then there's the software which can be subject to major change between now and release.
What I am saying is, leave your mind open up until Unpacked. I remember last year when everyone was convinced we would get a Galaxy S5 Prime with metal build, instead we got a Note Edge.

This is my problem with prejudging before a phone is even announced, I am still unsure what to believe. You had already made your mind up that it is a 3000mAh battery, due to another rumor. There have been multiple rumors that claim either 3000mAh or 4100mAh, and I also posted a link of a spec sheet which claimed IR Blaster, but another rumor claimed no IR Blaster, and we are not even sure if the Note 5 images we have been seeing are not early prototypes.
I cannot understand how people can draw a conclusion based solely on rumors. One thing it does do is keep the stock market an interesting place though, I've made and lost money due to rumors, lol.

Well, I don't think going from the sd805 to the exynos 7420/7422 is a minor upgrade (considering how fast the s6 with it is)

So much hate for a device not yet released. If you don't like it don't buy it, simple as....

Well the 3000mAh was a bit of a stretch even for samsung, but that doesn't mean the Note 5 is going to be anything but a large S6. My issue though with samsung has nothing to do with the hardware, but with how Samsung treats their customers; I know that they don't guarantee any updates, but they should have figured out by now that people always want the latest updates along with the latest interface (that's why people keep buying iPhones). It's just a shame to see samsung making the same mistakes over and over again letting Apple walk all over them (Android as a whole suffers). Wish Samsung would seize making cheap low-end devices and just keep their previous gen models as the mid- and low-end phones, in order to be able to keep up with updating every model to the latest android and touchwiz versions.

And from what I am seeing, they have become worse than before, we are still waiting for 5.1.1 and now there is a huge vulnerability found yet they continue to drag their feet. It is very frustrating and it has had me wondering if I could live with an iPhone 6S Plus, but I like Android and thoroughly enjoy its versatility.
Its a tough one, it makes me wonder why manufacturers can't just make their skins downloadable or separate them from the core of the OS and allow Google to issue the Android Updates to us, then they (the manufacturers) can do their skin updates at their own pace. Would make a lot more sense.

I'm not desperate enough to consider an apple device, especially now that Samsung has committed themselves to frequent security-updates. Would like to see every Samsung phone updated simultaneously, but as there are 1000000 different models that's just not possible.
Google handling the updates would indeed be ideal, but touchwiz uses it's own framework so it's more than just a custom skin.

Can't have it all I guess.
I am a fan of TouchWiz (one of very few it seems), all I would like is faster and more consistent updates.
Their commitment to monthly security updates will be interesting to see.

There are so many good phones in the near pipeline - if you don't need the pen (which although is nice to have its not imperative for me), there is the hugely competitively priced Moto x, the upcoming Nexus 7, the top spec (rumoured) LG G4 Pro, to name just a few.

Yes inbuilt memory is fine if you have a truly reliable high speed data connection everywhere, and the ability to charge the thing in every coffee shop, but for those of us who don't live next to a 4g mast/wifi hotspot and want to drag around a power pack, the lack of these 2 features alone make the note 5 an impossible buy - at least for the price Samsung will want to charge.
....and that's before we even talk about the speed to deploy critical updates!

Not one to defend Google normally, but that's the reason i went back to my nexus 6. Yes its not half as sharp, camera is a step below, but its got no issues with security and it does not get shunted aside a few months after purchase.

All the Note series have been larger versions of their S series siblings. So it's no surprise that the Note 5 will be a large S6.
I do agree though that Samsung have an appalling customer service and public relations reputation and it pains me to say they could learn a thing or two from Apple sadly.
They came up with the S6 as a ground-zero project to satisfy the critics ... read that as journalists. Tech journalists have always favoured Apple products with a few Android blogger exceptions. So we end up with the S6 looking like an iPhone clone. The "oohs and ahhs" of those journalists was great for Samsung but they were short lived as soon as another new phone showed up. What Samsung should be doing is surveying current Samsung customers and asking them what they really want from a phone. Doing proper market research and lining that up with what they can technically, financially and feasibly manufacture without it costing the consumer stupid money, will be a winner for them.
I agree that we should not completely judge the Note 5 before it's officially launched but I think we have a good enough idea to form a relatively good opinion of it. I owned every Note since its birth and I have to say this is the first time I have hesitated about upgrading to the next gen version. I guess we will have to wait and see.

Recalled SD820replaced by the Exynos??

What if they sent us the exynos variants? Since the note 7 replacement would get resolved faster that way, opposed to exchanging every battery in the note which would technically make every device a refurbished, it would take longer that way and would devalue the device...faster way to satisfy customers is sending the varients that aren't exploding which are the exynos varients...
Whats your feedback and thoughts on this!?

What if we send our phones through Samsung instead then to the carriers? Some people in the US bought the phone unlocked and Samsung is offering their own exchange program not for those people but just in general.

Yeah but we don't wanna think that, we want the exynos because they have root(ignorance is bliss[emoji18]) , plus it would make sense for them to give us an unlocked version because if i have tmobile version and i exchange it for theirs im sure they are not carrying the T-Mobile/Sprint/Verizon/at&t varients so ill get a debloated note 7 ***PROFIT*** THANK ME LATER!

being in US doesnt mean he couldn't have Exynos, but AFAIK the problem is batteries made in Korea, not cpu etc. Probably majority of batteries made in Korea would go to Exynos equipped models for local markets and it seems most of Tmo phones are made in China for example, but the problem is most may not mean all and if they were short of chinese batt. in China, they could have shipped some from Korea and If I had to guess, that could be reason for global recall, they may not be 100% sure if some faulty batteries from Korea didn't end up in China made US models. I wonder if there is a program able to read batt info, if such info exist. It blows my mind, that all this could be avoided if only there was simple access inside, like on older models.

If they switched the processors, I would bail out getting the Note 7 altogether. I had a Note 10.1, 12.2 and note 5 all with exynos processors and all of them couldn't handle heavy activity after a certain period of time. Putting the snapdragon processor in the Note 7, S7 and S7edge was smart of Samsung.

I like how you think especially since I thought the same way. It seems they are protecting their battery source as they don't want to "out" them. I agree a simple app to detect what battery you have would make sense. They are gonna refurbish the returned phones somehow

If you really want to do that, just return your TMo for a refund and then buy the Exynos version from Samsung or a retailer who carries it.
Personally, I prefer the Snapdragon one, that's why I bought from a carrier.

If i buy it from samsung i cant finance the phone, i have to pay $850 plus tax, if i buy from tmobile store and thrn go to the samsung store ill get:
exynos note 7 varient
No bloat
New battery
Still be under finance

I have to disagree.
I especially wnt the exynos processor.
Things to consider:
I've had the same models, but my 12.2 pro is lte, so it has the snapdragon 800 processor.
10.1 and 12.2 Wi-Fi were 32bit processors. Those exynos models were behind qualcomm snapdragon at the time, and their scores showed it.
Note 5 was 64 bit exynos, and was faster than 810 snapdragon counter part
808 snapdragon was hexacore and as well, slower.
Hard to compare them, reason they went with qualcomm was qualcomm came out with lte embedded, so it didn't need another module draining battery. Last year's note 5 came worldwide Exynos, and if you compare last year's exynos to this year's snapdragon (hard reset Note 5 vs hard reset Note 7) you would be hard to believe the snapdragon 820 is faster. As a matter of fact it's not, except on paper. I've seen the exynos 88xx blow away the snapdragon 820.
I for one would love it if they replaced them. I'm a Note fanboy. I've had every note except the original, and they've all gotten better, with my exception being they note 7 in terms of software. This is the first time I feel let down

I don't have a surface thermometer, but I'm being I could bake an egg on this. I don't feel it most of the time, because i have it in a case (platinum, which by the way covers both edges of the screen so you can't use any edge option, and cuts off some letters on web pages) but there's just something wrong this year.
Samsung has started to listen to... the media and websites instead of consumers. Websites complained it wasn't like their beloved Apple, all glass and Prone to break or shatter. They took the IR away. Sealed their battery, made their cameras 4:3 by default, took all their little options away that websites thought werw too much (but could all be turned off if not needed, such as eye scrolling, motion swiping, photo formula text editing (check the note 4 advertising about taking a photo of a paragraph and being able to move it around including the formula)), it just doesnt make sense.
Back to the subject, to me, and i am currently using both, the exynos 7420 found in the note 5 with the gpu mali T760 seems faster in real life than the snapdragon 820 with adreno 530. I suspect after seeing as much that the exynos 8890 in the international version. ( 930FD ) is faster.
Sorry I'm just so disappointed and blown away by how hot this is. And performance is bad all over for me

It looks like THEY were the battery source and it was put into 70% of the phones released.

See you know what your talking about these other guys don't, they don't know that the In-House processor works better because it's theirs just like apples works wonders on their phone because it's their own, better battery on the exynos and root is available aswell...smh..i want exynos

Technically it was always QUALCOMM that had their processors rootable, Samsung had theirs under lock and key, lots of developers were asking Samsung to release notes on their exynos as they werent following the "rules" of openness. International versions always had the exynos, and most Wi-Fi models. It's just we got really lucky last year because of the 810 overheating. This year's model didn't have "liquid cooling" that the s7 and s7 edge had, and it's just... It's almost like I'm using a knock off phone.
I've never considered going back to a previous model of any phone. That said this was not Samsung's first "dud". Their S2 on Sprint was an exynos and it was a beast. On T mobile it was a TI OMAP I think 4430. Let's just say it showed me back then how awesome it (exynos) was.
Everyone who has used a note always gets a Better version of the S*. This year it seems we have gone back....1,2,3 year's

My take they are releasing the QC versions in the US because they don't want to give that documentation needed. Everyone keeps saying some underhanded anti-competitive deal, but if that's the case then how does Apple do it? Why they do it with the Note 5, and why wasn't there hoopla when that happened? The promise was made in the US, and magically we stopped getting Exynos the following year. When they released a Exynos version everyone asked for documentation they switched us back to QC. We will always see QC as long as we remember they promised documentation. They only give us the ones for Panda boards last I remember and 32 bit only.

Note 8 to V30?

Hey guys, I have been using the Note 8 for 6 months now and I like the phone over all. Few things I am not finding very comfortable are it's size and the weight. And in general gotten a bit bored of the phone. So, I had been to a local store yesterday and saw the V30 here in India. And I must say I really liked it. The design, the display, the form factor and over all appeal of the phone was really good. The only poor thing was it's front camera. But I am not selfie person so I can live with it. But the wide angle rear camera is dope. I hardly use the portrait mode on the Note 8. But I used to take lot of fun pictures with my G6. So I am thinking of switching to the V30. Has anyone here done it? Or own both the phones? Need some honest opinions

If you are just EVEN considering this, my advice is that you should do it, in my case I would NEVER consider using anything less than a samsung galaxy note series device, for me, it is all about the S PEN, the most unique feature among all other devices, what makes the note series devices stand out, you see, anybody who gets a note device should consider the s pen as the #1 reason, if not, the S+ series would be the logical choice, or other good real flagship for that matter, (LG, sony, apple, google, etc)

Haha. Thanks for the advice. I haven't been able to use anything other than Samsung phones in the last 4 years. And one Major reson for that has been the display and to an extent camera. I love the Note 8 and would have not thought of switching, had I not seen the V30. The V30 is much more comfortable in the hand because of its size, weight and form factor. Also, the POLED screen is so much more better than their old LCD displays. And I even compared the Note 8 to the V30 and to my surprise I sort of liked the V30 better. And even while playing those large 4K videos, the V30 was stutter free while my Note 8 clearly was not as smooth. Nevertheless, I am still super confused, as i fear that i might regret my decision later. I have spent a lot of money on the insurance and on the original Samsung case and resale value is bad here in India. But my gut feeling is to still go ahead and try the V30

I agree, if that's how you feel go for it. Even if someone tries to convince you not to, you already have the thought & may not agree. But if someone tells you reasons why you should you'll probably agree because you have that thought already. People look for assurance to make big decisions, it's human nature. But this decision is yours, it's your personal preference, everyone is different & nothing wrong with that.
My past 2 phones were Notes, I'm a big fan of the SPen. I'm always up for change & consider others. I do look at phones other than Samsung whenever I get a new one. But LG is not one of them. I'm personally not a fan of any of their products except my room AC is LG, their phones & TVs, they never catch my eye. Quality & features seem lacking to me. Maybe part of it is the experience with them that I saw when I worked in OEM electronic repair. We always said that LG stood for Low Grade. Haha
It sounds like you are the type to get bored of phones & need to change often. In the US for T-Mobile we have a Jump On Demand program where after 18 months or something like that you can trade in your phone for some new model. Great for people who like to have the latest & greatest. Do they offer anything like that where you are? It will help your wallet to switch phones often.

Hahaha. I understand you. For me, LG has always been that brand which has come very close to replacing my Samsung phones But never succeeded. I have an LG 4K tv which I absolutely love. As far as the decision of buying the V30, I haven't made up my mind completely yet. I wanted to know from someone who has used both and if they had a strong reason not to switch from the Note 8, apart from its S pen feature of course. I am still in 2 minds actually, since I will be wasting a lot of money and Also, if I regret the decision later, I will definitely not be able to spend more to get back to the Note 8 for now. Haha.

To be fair I've never played with a LG TV so I can't really say I don't like them. LG crossed my mind before buying the Note 8. Then I decided to buy an Exynos Note 8 cause I can't live without custom recovery & root cause we only have Snapdragon in the US. But then again if it comes to the day when that's not an option I may switch from Samsung even if not available on other OEMs. There are some Huawei phones that seem nice, I think they will be a great competitor in due time if not already.
That sucks that resale value is low where you are. How about selling on ebay? I've never sold my old phones. Luckily I'm not the type to upgrade phones every year, that would definitely not be good for my wallet as flagship phones cost way too much these days.

Actually on Jump on Demand in teh US, you can trade for other new flagship devices several times a year - the 18 months is the lease term.

OP do as you please. Your money and your choice. V30 excellent phone. LG blows away EVERY phone in audio away. The new LG V30 coming out soon. The LG V30 ThinQ? LG sales have been pretty bad. So now they do slight upgrade from last year flagship huh? Even the new V30 only thing it has over Note 8 is better chip and audio.
Regular V30 only had better audio then Note 8. I do agree V30 looks better. The curved screen is worthless. I'd still take Note 8 over V30. I use to be a die hard LG fan. If you do rock LG stick with V series! There other phones have crap build quality.
Worst build quality I've ever dealt with. Stick to V20, V30, V? Etc.

So, i could finally come to a decision after i went back to the store again today and played with the V30 for good amount of time. Well, i did one important thing before going to the store, which is, replaced my Note 8 official protective standing case with a local 360 degree case. This had already made a lot of difference in how i felt the Note 8 in the hand. So, while i was checking out the V30 today at the store, i did all the possible tests on how better or worse the screen is compared to the Note 8 and how good or bad the camera is and over all how the feel of holding it is, against the Note 8. But when i finally started typing on the V30, trust me, it literally felt like a toy. I had not felt that way until that moment. I immediately went back to my Note 8 and typed on it and i knew i had the better phone with me. Also, like i said, i had changed the case to a much lighter one which had already made the difference. But when i did try typing on the V30, i knew why i had paid those extra dollars for the Note 8. Happily came back home and not going to probably check any other phones until the Note 9 or Pixel 3 XL comes out. Thanks again for all the responses. My Note is here to Stay for longer
Edit: Changing the case to a lighter one would have made it more vulnerable to breaking, but hey, what is the insurance for after all?

Good choice you won't regret it. Idk man the rumors so far with Note 9 and Pixel 3 Xl, nothing to write home about. Note 10/ Samsung X/ Pixel 4 XL= True Upgrade.

That's why I don't bother upgrading every year, waste of money IMO. Usually need 2 generations to see worthy differences. Same with Android versions, need to 2 letter versions to see noticeable differences. That's why I don't understand why everyone was so anxious to get Oreo. Now that it's here, nothing exciting about it & different than all the past Oreo reviews.

Agreed 100%. 1k a year for a phone? No thanks. $500 not to bad. Yeah Oreo doesn't seem much different. We should get Android P, but that will be a while. Like you pointed out usually takes 2 generations to see a worthy difference. In regards to new features and better specs. Some people want newest phone though. For those people do as you will. Others that on the fence really read into what we're saying.
