[Q] Perfomance in roms 4.1.2 vs 4.2.2 - LG Optimus 4X HD

Hi
I want ask about performance with v4.1.2 versus v4.2.2 (any rom)
i tested some roms in my phone and i noticed that exist difficult in performance in some games ( and some fps skipped in videos that almost not noticed, and others bugs minors of every rom ) using 4.2.2 (CM in my case) versus others roms based in 4.1.2 or stock roms
and is strange because the v4.2.2 using less ram and is most fluid that 4.1.2 but the performance in benchmarks and games is minor.
In the 4.1.2 the consumption of ram is more high, but the games runs with better fps
why is due this?? Drivers??
Thanks!

Mali GPU driver

Hello everybody,
does anybody know how is developing Mali GPU driver going on for our Note?
I think that graphics performance was a little better in ICS 4.0.4 then in upper version... or I'm wrong?
The most important experience I've is with the 3D game Let's Golf 3: playing is not smooth then with rom 4.0.4 stock...
At the moment I'm using Angry 3.2 Rom JB 4.1.2....

One thing I've learnt through Android, performance decreases as the versions go up. Its not a maybe, its a definitely.

It's disagree entirely, I think the reverse. Kernels with latest Mali drivers way outperform normal stock drivers. Ics improved on gb, and remember that jb is still in beta and Google have already admitted to issues with display performance which they're working on, so I have no doubt jb will be even better.

AW: Mali GPU driver
Maybe the benchmark score decreases but the real performance increased for me with the upgrades. There may be some versions slower then there precursors but in general performance is growing.

Hahaha (not laughing at you just at our differing experiences) - I disagree entirely with this and think OP has a point. In fact I already made a post about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2203374
Some games I don't notice much if any difference in 3D performance if any - off the top of my head examples are Dead Trigger and Riptide GP.
However for some others, for me at least, the performance difference between GB and JB firmware is huge. I'm talking about talking stuttering, uneven frame rates on JB Roms and silky smooth, consistent framerates on GB Roms. Examples are Let's Golf 3 (as already bought up), Real Racing 3 and GTA: Vice City. In fact (and I have no idea why) GTA:VC on GB plays silky smooth and at a higher resolution than JB, not sure why this is.
Concerning GTA:VC I, like many others, had issues that made it unplayable sometimes on GB based ROMS so I recently switched to Samsung Stock JB where it now plays without those issues but the performance of the game is much lower.
Its definitely true that performance other than 3D gaming is streets ahead in JB Roms when you compare it to GB of course.
One thing I haven't done is much gaming using ICS though which may explain our differing experiences.
another explanation is that the games dev havent optimized it for jb or newer drivers yet.
if thats the case its further proof of silly android hardware, os and app integration versus independant hardware layer, os on top and then aps, making apps completely hardware independant lol and overcoming the legacy crap.
I'm not sure what is this mali gpu thing but i believe it has something to do with graphic as what y'all has discussed above. I can see that my graphic performance has decreased on this JB rom(I'm using supernexus2 4.2.2) compared to ICS. When on ICS, I can play Backstab HD without any issue, but on JB rom(both 4.1.2 and 4.2.2) the graphic are too laggy and the phone itself would heated up.

[Q] Low responsiviness on the JB stock based roms

Is it just me, or someone else is thinking that JB stock based roms are kinda low responsive and slower?
I'm with RR v12 (ICS), and my typing is much faster then it was on the JB rom.
Of course that I don't have the wonderful project butter, but the responsiviness and the spped that I can do all the stuff I want quickly do compensate.

[Q] 3D Game Performance: Jelly Bean vs. Gingerbread

Howdy folks
I've noticed something rather perplexing: game performance for Note on GB Roms is streets ahead of JB Roms in some cases. Bear in mind that this is all subjective (ie I haven't measured FPS) although in most cases where this is noticeable the performance difference is so large that I hardly need to. Think jerking and stuttering movement that interferes heavily with gameplay.
It only seems to effect some titles though: for example Dead Trigger and Shadowgun seem equally good on either (maybe the same game engine is the reason?) to my subjective eye. Real Racing 3 and Let's Golf 3 are very, very bad on JB roms that I've tried. Let's Golf 3 is jerky graphically. Real Racing 3 is jerky to the point of being unplayable.
On GB roms Let's Gold 3 is silky, silky smooth - literally everything, it's an older game of course. Real Racing 3 is jerky at times, in particular on the scenes before you start racing where it shows the cares, but not as much as JB. During gameplay it varies from jerky but still playable (when there's lots of cars/crashes) to that wonderful framerate steadiness where you feel in complete control of the car because everything FPS is consistently the same. Which it is not on JB at all. I realise RR3 is probably getting a bit beyond the Notes capabilities but the difference between JB and GB is night and day. And that's before I use any Chainfire3D features on GB.
I've tried Stock GB and Rocket ROM GB but only 3 JB ROMs - that being ParanoidAndroid 2.54 (utacka), PA 3.10 and Stunner v2 to get these subjective results.
So point of this post is: are all JB Roms like this for 3D performance? Particuarly interested in people that have tried RR3 and LG3 though I'm sure there's other games that this effects. I have read that Asylum and BlackCNA are good for 3D gaming - is it better/same than GB though?
I'm really in love with ParanoidAndroid features other than the gaming issues so I might try a dual booting solution or swap between nandroid backups to have a GB and JB roms even though this will be a PITA (the dual booting would require flashing a kernel before changing ROMS though at least I can do it online with KTools .
Just wondering

What's the most usable rom for i9000? Stock? No games, just daily usage.

Hi. I sold my lovely lenovo a820 and have i9000 until i will buy something better. But this phone lags and i can't use it for normal things like internet etc(only music works perfect). I tried some kit kat roms and cm10, but this isn't what i need. Maybe i should stay on stock 2.3 or cm7?
p.s. Yes, I set limit for 1 execute in background, but phone's still working slowly.
Can You help me? Maybe 1ghz and 512 ram isn't enough for daily usage? My ex lenovo (4x1.2ghz and1gb ram was working like rocket in comparsion with samsung).
I'm using my i9000 as my daily phone to be upgraded soon, and to be honest I wouldn't suggest any KitKat ROM. I've tried many of them, I was somewhat happy with OmniROM and before that older versions of CyanAOSP (I think it was v.2.something) but there are lags that can be quite frankly even excruciating (incaming call lag for example).
For the moment I'm happy with an ICS ROM: Mackay 2014 1.7. I've yet to test its full potential but so far the UI is far more responsive than any KK ROM I've used.

Sony Xperia XP poor GPU performance on custom ROM

Hello,
I have tried several custom Roms for sony Xperia X Performance f8131 (android 7.1.1 kernel 3.18) and I am getting poor GPU performances. OpenCl is ~5 times slower and openGL ~2.5 times slower than on the official rom. I have tried to copy the vendor libraries from the official rom but it is making no difference.
Can someone help me move in the right direction?
Thanks a lot
Loïc
just my two cents. The newer phones less people build the roms because of the features xperia comes with. Just my opinion but i love the stock camera. Also with the low development rate for roms on this your bound to find some crap bugs.
