Yes there was a rumour but I don't think we should expect that in 2014.
Samsung says 4.4 update for note3 will come in Jan end, then s4 in march, then note2 and s3, probably 3-4 months later ..and then will look forward to other devices, so they are gonna take loooong time for sure!!

Samsung will never release 4.2/4.3/4.4 official update for our phone... They are f*****g busy to create 10 useless devices at month: Galaxy Sx, Galaxy Sx Zoom, Galaxy Sx Active, Galaxy Sx Nuclear Power, Galaxy Sx Alluminium Case, Galaxy Sx AB, Galaxy Sx for my Grandma, Galaxy s**t, Galaxy Ugly and Galaxy Note 99.1 The End of the World Edition. and only 1 or 2 of these will be updated and their software is a s**t. C'mon guys, Samsung is interested only on marketing! Don't matter if we are angry for this, petitions, etc... They see only money and is the only interest of Samsung
EDIT: One new useless device: "Galaxy Note 3 Olympic Games Edition", maybe it can make me fast as Usain Bolt, MAYBE...:silly:

The truth has been spoken... LOL
Five years ago I had a Samsung GT-I8910 Omnia HD based on S60v5 OS... World's first smartphone with HD video recording (terrible recording, huge fps drop, sh****ng audio... Caused by f***ing S60v5 OS personalized by Samsung) and best camera phone of year 2009. It was updated like 2-3 times in two years with an always sh****ng software, only community of modders fixed his problems and finally the HD video recording and audio recording... It was a rocket only with mods. In five years nothing has changed, always s**t software. I seen my friends and other people with SIII, SIV etc. cursing for extreme slowdown, Samsung knows that its software is crappy and slow like a snail, but as I said earlier is interested only on marketing to make money (hmm think about a bitten apple :silly, not interested to fix their software once and for all. This makes me angry, because Samsung take the p**s its users with advertising campaigns and advertising on TV, yesterday I seen a spot about Note III, person saying "The new Samsung Galaxy Note III with its Quad-core processor makes all faster" etc etc, talk about software!! C'mon!!! All TW android versions are s**t on every Samsung Android device. TW itself is a s**t. Samsung is a s**t brand.

Hi,
Samsung announced a while ago that it'll push ICS 4 +"Premium Suite" to the beloved GNote. However, after watching the Galaxy SIII announcement yesterday, I started wondering if the GNote will ever get some of the features the SIII got (i.e Popup video, Allshare cast, etc.)
Do you think some of the smart guys in the forum will be able to port them?

That would be sweet. Now that the S3 as been released, maybe samsung will integrate some of the S3 features on the ICS premium suite for our beloved GNote. But i would be happy enough with ICS all alone, i tired of all this waiting!!!
I wonder if now, after the yesterday's unboxing, the Gnote ICS update is just around the corner...
If samsung want they can easily do that considering the hardware power of note but i think they will not do that due to their marketing strategy. they want to sell more and more no of s 3.
I dont think they will push any of the SGS3 features onto the Note official with ICS rollout. Samsung would not want ruin the exclusivity of features that SGS3 has. Just like Crapple didn't release Siri for anything but the 4S, Even today they can not port it successfully n reliably on the iphone4/ipad2.
All the porting will have to be done at XDA
I have a feeling that Samsung just forgot they had a son named Note...
Damn hope I am totally wrong!

Earlier this month, a leak bought an unofficial list of devices that would be getting updated to Android 4.4 KitKat, at least in the U.S.. Today, Samsung USA has decided to make things official and has announced which of its phones and tablets will be getting the KitKat update, with many of the devices that were named in the leak actually included in the official list, including low-end devices like the Galaxy Tab 3 and the Galaxy S III mini (the upgraded model with LTE launched last year on AT&T and Verizon, not the international variant that came out in 2012.)
If you’re rocking a Galaxy Note 3 or Galaxy S4, expect to see a notification for the update today itself, especially if you’re on Sprint or US Cellular, as Samsung mentions that it will start rolling out starting today, confirming earlier leaks that suggested the update would be making its way to devices on the two networks.
Here’s the full list of devices that will be getting KitKat:
• Galaxy Note 3
• Galaxy Note II
• Galaxy S4
• Galaxy S4 mini
• Galaxy S4 Active
• Galaxy S4 zoom
• Galaxy S III
• Galaxy S III mini
• Galaxy Mega
• Galaxy Light
• Galaxy Note 8.0
• Galaxy Tab 3
• Galaxy Note 10.1
• Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition
That’s a pretty big list, which should make users of the aforementioned devices quite happy, though if you’re using a non-flagship device, we would recommend patience as Samsung will likely take its time pushing out the newer version of Android. The presence of the Galaxy Note 10.1 on the list is especially good to see, as users of the device have been pretty vocal of the poor support Samsung has extended to the original Galaxy Note tablet, with the device on Android 4.1.2 for more than a year.
Here’s the press release:
Samsung Confirms KitKat for U.S. Smartphones and Tablets
DALLAS, February 18, 2014 – Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung Mobile) announced today that a number of Samsung Galaxy® devices will receive the Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) software update, enriching the Galaxy experience.

Enhanced Messaging: Enables users to choose between Messages or Hangouts as their preferred default messaging application, and select from a larger assortment of updated Emoji icons.
Upgraded Google Mobile Service™ (GMS) apps: Users can automatically back up photos and video and can open, view, rename and share Google Docs and files.

I read elsewhere the changes between 4.3 and 4.4 are minimal. Don’t get me wrong, I will step up to 4.4 when I can.
Then again, the S5 will be in stores soon. :fingers-crossed:
Won't be holding my breath
Like the title says, the support Samsung have given the S4 Active has been woeful, I can even go so far as to say I'm looking to another manufacturer for my next upgrade.
The S4 A has buggy OFW, the slimrom build by Spelegius and the CWM unofocial port are far better (even with the buggy HD video recording issue). I have been gutted by how poorly this phone performs and fails to meet it's fullest potential.
All the above being said, I'll still upgrade if it comes along................. fingers crossed...........

My first android device was Samsung Galaxy Ace. Which was quite nice until I got to know that it won’t receive upgrades past Gingerbread. So, I bought a Galaxy SII. SII was an amazing phone. A great bump in performance and screen size for me after Galaxy Ace. Also SII had the sweet Ice Cream Sandwich. It also got updated to Jelly Bean (4.1.2). Then I made the switch to Galaxy SIII. Which at the time of my purchase still had the same software 4.1.2. Now, it didn’t feel like a huge upgrade in terms of how my phone looked. Except a couple of add-ons the software was similar. Then a 4.2.2 was leaked around the same time when Google released 4.3 and I updated to it, hoping it would bring some fresh change but it wasn’t much. And it had bugs too. I waited for the bugs to be fixed but then Samsung announced that they are skipping 4.2.2 for SIII and will directly update it to 4.3. I was kind of sad but it was good to know that it was getting updated to 4.3. Though when the actual update came out, this was around the time Google announced KitKat, it was again filled with bugs. Now, that wasn’t a leak that was the official update from Samsung and then they stopped the update temporarily to fix the bugs. They released one more 4.3 update after addressing those bugs from previous one but this one had more. And those never got addressed. Then Samsung announced that the international version of SIII, the one I had, will not receive upgrade to Android 4.4 as 1 GB RAM is not enough to run Samsung customizations smoothly. But the versions with 2GB RAM will receive the updates. Some people appreciated Samsung for actually working on to release an upgrade for a device that was out of the conventional upgrade period. But those people need to evaluate the facts that SIII was the company’s most successful phone. Also when you see the timeline of when the updates were released you realise that every update was released almost around 6 months of announcement from Google.
After being fed up with their update system I made the switch to Nexus 5. Even though I haven’t received any major updates, the vanilla android experience itself has been pretty great. And when I compared it to a GS5 running 4.4, I was even more happy. The time to time lag on S5 when switching between apps or the app opening speed or the lag when opening the recent app menu, they all just make me a little bit happier that I am not a Samsung customer anymore.
I just switched from the Samsung S4 to the N% a few weeks ago.
Even though the screen sizes are the "Same" the N5 has a little less usable space because of the soft keys. The S4 has keys below the screen.
No big deal for me though.
The N5 test slower on AnTuTu and Quadrant than the S4, however the N5 is a ton faster than the S4 on everything that I do, for screen scrooling, to app launching, to web sites loading, everything.
The N5 simply leaves the S4 in the dust.
I'm very impressed so far, and happy about the switch.
I still have the S4 as a backup if needed.

Ironic because you made a useless comment.
On topic: Yeah, I switched from an S3 and was extremely happy. I used to really enjoy touch wiz because of a couple of features but the sluggishness of the phone was getting on my nervous. I flashed a stable built of CM, which wasn't great because that had some pretty serious bugs which annoyed me also. Then the N5 came out and I decided to buy and I am very happy with the experience.
I like nexus 5 but I'm dying to go back to Samsung but i know if i get the galaxy s5 I'll be dying to get back my nexus 5

Nice post, I think it sums up a lot of users' feelings too. I've never owned a Samsung phone - I started with nexus and have only used nexus since and i couldn't be happier. Between getting major updates first and the rich development community, you have very little limitations with these phones. I just hope that if Google kills the nexus line like they're rumored to, that they still deliver the same experience with future GPE devices (currently, GPE devices are not on par with the nexus line in my opinion).
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk
Speaking as a former Galaxy S3 T-Mobile owner, I had to stay that Knox software and bootloader locking is what finally made me give up on the Galaxy series. The Nexus 5 on my opinion is a developer phone and a guideline of what other companies should follow. I'd rather not pay to own hardware that doesn't let me use it in the way I want. Plus no matter how you looked at it TouchWiz was insanely slow because of all the extra features, some of which most people would never use.

I just found this article on Master Herald:
Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Android 5.0 Update Coming Later Than Planned as Company Readjusts Plans around Gear VR
Initial reports about the Gear VR claimed that Samsung are planning to put a lot of focus on the device, but it wasn’t until recently that the picture started to really clear up. It seems that the company really is moving forward very actively with the Gear VR, but at the same time, sadly, some of their current users will have to suffer a little bit. Recent rumors indicated that the Android 5.0 Lollipop update is coming closer for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, but there have now been reports that the update has been pushed back a little further.
According to the most recent updates, the new Galaxy Note 4 ROM has been handed over to a team that’s working to ensure the device will have full compatibility with Samsung’s Gear VR. Considering the Note 4 is one of the very few devices that will (reportedly) support the Gear VR, it’s no wonder that Samsung are trying so hard to make sure that this compatibility works flawlessly.
The Gear VR is Samsung’s own take on the Virtual Reality concept, although they’re approaching the problem from a different direction. Instead of selling a complete device including an internal screen for the goggles, the Gear VR is meant to be used with Samsung’s other devices. The user would attach, for example, the Galaxy Note 4, and would then use the Gear VR as a normal VR headset, using the screen of the device.
It’s not known how much different this technology will be from the Oculus Rift in terms of performance, and there has been some skepticism aimed at it due to the fact that it relies on one screen instead of two. Still, Samsung seem to know what they’re doing, as they’ve been putting more and more effort into promoting and developing the Gear VR further, so it will be curious to see where they end up with this device. Even if it doesn’t break any solid grounds on the VR market, it still has the potential to set interesting new trends for it, and at least push it forward to some extent. So far, its performance has been acceptable, although those who’ve tried it seem to be left with mixed opinions.
Other devices that are going to get the Android 5.0 Lollipop update include the Galaxy Note Edge, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy S5 mini, and Galaxy S4. Exact release dates for the new firmware version are not known, but it’s expected that Samsung will prioritize the devices according to their compatibility with the Gear VR. This could potentially indicate which devices Samsung is planning to make compatible with the headset in the future, too.
F%$& Gear VR, I want Lollipop nao =(

is this real and can we flash this in the uk??!
I doubt it's true. They provide no source and there is nothing about this on sammobile. Perhaps, they just mistakenly wrote 4 instead of 3?
I dunno there's a chance theyre lying but there's no way they've accidentally got this wrong, as they referred to the note 3 by saying like it's predecessor I guess we'll here about it in a few hours time if it's real but my bets on them just lying cause they're Weirdos
Well Samsung is making a very bad impression on people who picked up the Note 4 as their first Samsung device. I love the device itself but the TW interface and constant lag on a device this powerful is embarrassing. It worries me that instead of focusing on making TW better for the Lollipop update they are goofing around with compatibility for a $200 piece of plastic that won't even work unless you have a specific device with a specific version of OS installed. Maybe I'm being unfair but I also own a Gear Neo 2 which can't be used on any other phone. See like the Gear VR it can't be used on my Note 4 unless I have a specific version of OS installed. This makes the device extremely limited. It's nice they are making sure the VR is going to work for the few hundred people who have a Gear VR, but for the thousands who don't it isn't a very good excuse for taking 3 months to push out one update. Loving the Note 4 device but not loving TW or the limited customization. This doesn't turn me off android devices at all. Just turning me off from investing in another Samsung product.

Hm do you reckon they're telling the truth or just bull****ting again to shut us up? If this is true it could be available by Monday
well got it from 4 different reps...but whos nows with Sammy! lol
Just wanna say I have a gear VR and it kicks ass. Most of us that own them already know this, but many are still uninformed.
Not saying I like that lollipop is delayed for Oculus to finish tweaking the kernel (if that's actually even the truth), but I'm glad I will be able to use it with the new update and not be stuck with KK. Furthermore if they just ignored the VR so they could release an earlier 5.0, there would still be another update in the coming weeks and everyone would have to wipe, reflash, reroot, etc...
What's more, those of us who own the VR, if Samsung released an update without supporting it, there would be boatloads of complaints from people who either want to update asap, or accidentally accept the OTA.
you guys have clearly never used the Gear VR if you think it's a minor point of emphasis to Samsung. It is the wave of the future, in my opinion. Go ahead and downplay it or call it a niche product, but if you haven't tried it you really should. I understand the move to include the VR software with their initial release.
How many on here are going to flash stock ROMs anyway? They're rubbish. I'll be waiting for the official Cyanogen 12 rom.
I believe in Samsung as much as I believe in God. Samsung said they will release Lollipop in January and I'm still in January.
But if they want to postpone the release due to Gear VR I won't be mad at them, they would do it for a good reason.
Samsung know why most of us wanted a phablet with super high resolution. And they know that we want lollipop, but they know well that we will be more satisfied if we receive Lollipop + Gear VR + reality porn together

There is no point in you waiting. The CM ROMs for the Note 4 are great and are already nearly merged with the Official branch. The update from Samsung only matters if you actually want to use any of Samsungs products or if you really need TW features.

We're not saying the VR is complete rubbish. but that the Note 4 users who do not have a VR, or have no interest in it vastly out weigh the people who actively use the Gear VR on a daily basis. Your not the only person screaming that the VR is the future. Things like the VR been proclaimed to be the future since 2012 (Or Nintendo back in 1995), and while they will become more popular as they are adopted it's not going to happen overnight. Remember we are talking about a Rift unit that effectively is a $1000+ headset because you need the phone and possibly more seeing that Samsung has been very open about you most likely will be needing the Samsung gamepad as well. Upside is that it is more portable then other versions. As for if the device is a success or not depends on support. Remember when everyone thought the Ouya was going to be the next big thing? The VR is very much a early adopter device. Games are not really here yet as approximately 40% of all launch titles announced so far are actually either short videos or sit still environments like a fish tank. I definitely believe the VR is a step in the correct direction but it's not here yet. Maybe in a few years. My point is why make thousands of Note 4 users wait for compatibility with a early adopter device that few of the Note 4 base even have?

Understandable. even if you have the Gear VR waiting isn't any fun. I don't think there will be many users who would have to reflash an update. OTA is there for a reason. Reroot sure, but that takes a few seconds. Heck in the time it takes me to make a sandwich I can reflash and root my device without problem.

I think there are more people complaining about not having the Lollipop update then those who depend on the Gear VR. I could be wrong. You do make a good point about accidentally accepting the OTA. I could see that happening.

I've tried the unofficial CM ROM and the battery issues caused me too many problems. Its nearly there but not enough for me as a daily driver. One day I lost 50% battery in 2 hours lol and phone was hot as hell.

A good ole bloody cheers to that!
Waiting for the Gear VR to play catch-up is worth it I think.
The Occulus team and the Samsung people have some time to begin to learn how to work with each other and exchange code, and we get to wait a little longer to find out if Lollipop is truly ready for this anyway.
As it is, the way things were going, I was going to manually skip this update.
I love my stock experience (touch wiz notwithstanding) and I can't stand the hoardes that show up to learn how to 're-install KK 'cause the battery's no good anymore and what's up with the notifications....?'
Happened with Ice-Cream (lord help those still devoutly on Gingerbread), happened with Jelly Bean (you'd have thought KK was treading ground Vista there at the beginning) and, mark my words, will happen - with a vengeance - with Lollipop.
I can wait for the last man standing.

According to an article on gmsarena.com the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is likely to get Nougat.
The article mentions that "Note 4 in general is likely to get Nougat, but not before the Galaxy S7s and Note 5"
This makes a lot of sense since the failure of the Note 7.
Let's keep our fingers crossed.
Hopefully 2nd Quarter of next year.
Here's a link to the article

Too good to be true?
looking back on all note series and updates before note 4, I can say that nougat will never be available for it
Please small baby Jesus, make this be sure.
It would be a nice investment of the resources that were working on the Note 7 nougat update, and a good appeasement of Note fans, so it probably won't happen
No way the Note 4 will get Nougat, it's Samsung FFS! It would be smart and make sense for them to do it which means they won't lol.
In all seriousness though, if the only reason they are making such a comment that the Note 4 would likely get Nougat just because the T-Mo Note 4's just now got the Nov.1, 2016 security patch is a joke because in Canada we got this security patch back at the end of November which just means nothing more than T-Mo was slow as hell to release this security patch. I fail to see how this small update could make anyone think Nougat will "likely" arrive for our Note 4's.
Every other article that has mentioned the Nougat update states that 2014 flagships will not get 7.0 and I am more likely to believe those reports over this one article that bases it on T-Mo's late release of the Nov.1 security patch lol. I would love to see Nougat on my Note 4, especially after giving up the Note 7 due to Samsung's incompetence but it will never happen (not officially anyway).
Currently samsung wants their customers to purchase new phones, so that they can revover their losses caused by the note 7 fiasco.
Now, if samsung updates the note 4 to nougat, why would note 4 users consider purchasing a new device.
Therefore, even if we were to get nougat update before the note 7 started malfunctioning, it is impossible now.
They want to recover their economy.
Anyways, if the past updates of note lineup are considered, it still says that note 4 wont get a 3rd major software upgrade.
Failing of note wont make any difference, definitely not a positive one.
Therefore, simply dont expect something which is not possible and stop criticising samsung.

After the disaster of the Note 7. I can understand why Samsung may want to release Nougat for the Note 4. Seeing as the Note 5 is only available in the US and Asia but not Europe. Which leaves their European Note fans without a Note worthy flagship device. It would be a good idea to release Nougat for the Note 4 to restore a bit of user confidence in their company as a way of apologizing for the disaster that was the Note 7. Not that the Note 7 was a bad device, it was just poorly designed.

Note 5 is also available in South America. Here in Brazil for instance. But it's rare to see them, people prefer S7 or note 4 still. Or even S6..

Thats interesting.... But then again the Samsung's Galaxy Note series of devices were never very popular in the West as they are in Asia.
I m from Serbia(Europe), and here Note4 is last from note series so it will be okay if thay update to Nougate, but if not I going to root and flash with last rom....
I can't see why the Note 4 wouldn't get it.
The Note 4 has all the hardware it needs to run Nougat with excellent performance. Even although it's been a few years since its release, it is still a high-end device.
Besides, Samsung needs to recover some of the confidence everyone lost on it after the Note 7 fiasco.

Today I just heard about note 8 that it is "about to be released" to recover losses.
So no, I don't have my hopes up.
