Guys, would appreciate if someone could help me out here.
Just wanted to confirm the Tmobile and the Developer edition Moto X are basically both compatible with 3g networks around the globe right? Specially in the UAE? The US Nexus 5 apart from the 4g works fine here.
Also, they two (tmobile/developer) are technically the same phones right? The costs now being the same I'm wondering which one to get.

Looks the XT1058 model with the most of the LTE bands but it depends on the firmware.
Be aware that the GSM developer edition is missing band 700 for ATT LTE service. In my area, band 700 is used and I am not receiving LTE. At first I thought there was a problem with the phone but as i traveled yesterday to Indianapolis as soon as I hit Kentucky LTE showed on the gsm developer edition. Am on the fence as to whether I will return it. Did not realize this until I spoke with the local corporate location this morning.

The T-Mobile/Dev Edition are missing Band 5, which is 850mhz. Band 17 is 700mhz, which all the GSM versions support.
The T-Mobile and GSM Dev edition definitely use the same ROM and radio/modems. This is verified by requesting/downloading the firmware from Moto's web site, and comparing it to the retail/consumer rom hosted on http://sbf.droid-developers.org/ghost/list.php and comparing the files included in each.

Really? When it came to LTE bands I thought the T-mo/Dev X was only missing bands 5 & 7 when compared to the ATT variant, and those bands aren't supposed to be used in the USA. (at least that is what John Renaldi of Moto posted on G+ not too long ago.)

That is correct, I missed that one in my post above. Band 7 is 2600mhz and is not used in the US.
Are the available bands hardware or software limited?

I believe the GSM Unlocked device that you can pick from Moto Maker when you don't select carrier, is the same as the T-Mobile USA device, in which case it would be missing bands 5 & 7 when compared to the ATT variant

Well mine picks up LTE on at just fine. I just can't receive MMS for some reason.

Who is your carrier? LTE Band 5 & 7 are rumored to be only used outside the USA, so for "Domestic USA LTE Use" the ATT (after sim unlock), T-Mobile, GSM Unlocked, and GSM Dev editions should all perform the same. The only real difference is lack of HSPA/HSPA+ on AWS(1700/2100) on the ATT model, which the T-Mo and Dev support, and GSM Unlocked should support too.
As for MMS, check your APN settings are correct.

Just wanted to share my experience on AT&T. Bought a Moto X developer edition from Motorola. Mine works and picks up AT&T LTE without issues. Also MMS works fine as well.
Just make sure you swap your existing SIM card to a brand new one at a corporate store where they actually scan the SIM and enter your IMEI into the AT&T system. Not sure if this was done already in your case. Good luck...

We figured out the problem. Porting a number from straight talk caused the issue. Once I activated a new number on a new Sim everything worked perfect.

I was hoping the ATT S5 would get UMTS 900 and LTE Band 20 (Europe Digital Dividend 800 Mhz), I was disappointed to see that it does not.
I live 45 min. North, Northwest of Philly and AT&T is the best carrier in PA - HANDS DOWN! I also travel every week, all over the US for work - and I'm very happy with AT&T in general. One thing I noticed on my S4 is that I could not get LTE in Burlington, VT on it - but I had full bars of LTE on my iPad Air. Side question; What band does ATT use for LTE there that the S4 don't support?

on the S4 I was able to activate AWS freq. for UMTS by flashing it. I need to do this for UMTS 900 and/or (pref. AND LTE Band 20, since I travel to Northern Norway all the time - and there is only UMTS 900 and LTE 20 some places there.... If I cannot have the phone flashed to have the current bands AND the wanted bands - would there be a way to flashing it back and forth from ATT to "Euro/International" mode?

AT&T uses bands 2, 4, 5, & 17 for LTE. Band 17 (700mhz) is what most of their LTE is on. That's why the signal is always good. I am starting to see Band 2 (1900mhz) in some areas. I saw Band 4 (AWS) in Chicago in a few areas (probably were capacity is weak).
Yes, with the S4 you could unlock the AWS frequencies. I do not know if you could flash UMTS 900 with an S4. You will not be able to flash anything with frequencies on the S5 as AT&T has locked down the phone entirely. It will follow in the Note 3's footsteps.
I think they discourage people unlocking their devices and using them on other networks. AT&T is forgetting what GSM is all about IMO. If AT&T LTE is not that important to you, you may want to consider the international variant which will support your European frequencies. It will NOT work on AT&T LTE though.

AT&T is most important, as I am in the US 95% of the time. At least the S5 will have LTE 1800 and 2600. My hometown in Norway should get LTE 1800 later this year. So at least I will have GSM 900, UMTS 2100 and LTE 1800.
Do you, or anyone else know if AT&T will unlock Phones on the Next plan? I got the S4 full price, but I'm using the Next plan for the S5.

They'll unlock it if its paid off entirely. But that doesn't mean you can't unlock it yourself.

Now that they give away the X for 300-325$, i'll buy either the developer edition or the 32GB GSM unlocked (T-Mobile), but I need help regarding the usage in Europe and the conditions of the SIM included.
I'm in the USA for about 6 month and then i'll use it in Hungary.
- Will I be able to use both phones with my own SIM card? (=are they really unlocked, without any restrictions?)
- Are there any obligations/fix costs/charges with the T-Mobile SIM? I'd be ideal for me, if i could just throw it away after i don't use it..
- Which will be the highest theorical download speed that i can use (these are form the site of my network operator):
3G - 0,38/0,38 Mbit/s
HSPA - 14,4/1,8 Mbit/s
HSPA+ - 21/5,76 Mbit/s
HSPA+DC - 42,2/5,76 Mbit/s
4G/LTE - 150/50 Mbit/s
The 4G is out of the question, because only the European version works on band3. The UMTS bands are matching, so there will be 3G, but i don't know if the different HSPAs are counts as 3G or 4G.
The two options are supposed to be the same, except the non-dev is customizable and the dev's bootloader can be unlocked. I've read somewhere that it has some effect on using the phone aboard/other provider. Can someone please verify it?

When it comes to the GSM Dev Edition vs the GSM Unlocked (comes with T-Mobile SIM), or GSM Unlocked (comes with Net10 Sim), there really is no hardware differences..
Ok, the Dev Edition comes only as black front, woven white back, silver accents (buttons and camera ring), says Dev Edition on it, and is 32gig only. It is SIM unlocked out of the box, and you can request/use the Bootloader Unlock code from Moto's web site WITHOUT voiding the warranty.
Where as the GSM Unlocked can be customized with Moto Maker for the front, back, accents and memory size. It is SIM unlocked out of the box, and you can request/use the Bootloader Unlock code from Moto's web site BUT IT DOES void the warranty.
They are all the XT1053. They use the same rom, radio, baseband, support the same frequencies, etc.
The T-Mobile and Net10 sim cards that ship with them are NOT activated, there is no data plan, voice plan, contract associated with them. So you could buy either, and stick your own sim in without any issue. No need to worry about canceling service on the SIM that ships with the X.
As for speeds and 2G/3G/4G support... that depends on what your target carrier uses, and does the XT1053 support it.
In the USA, 4G can mean either HSPA+ or LTE. Don't expect to get LTE outside the USA with the XT1053.
The XT1053 supports the following..
GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+: 850/900/ AWS/1900/2100 MHz with HSPA+ up to 42 Mbps (B5/B8/B4/B2/B1)
LTE: 700/AWS/1900MHz (B17/B4/B2)
If your intended carrier uses the same bands for UMTS/HSPA/HSPA+ you should be ok if your carrier supports 42Mbps or lower.
Moto G 4G is awesome phone for small budget who would like to buy smart phone under 10000-15000.. it is best .

I'm looking to use this phone with Cricket, or other similar carriers such as MetroPCS in Jacksonville, Florida.
Before I purchase I can't seem to determine if this phone is compatible with those carriers and will achieve LTE/4G /3G reception. It's important that mostly 4G/LTE is possible as I get signal drops in my area without those bands.

It should work with either AT&T or T-mobile in the US, but I think the LTE bands are different, so HSPA+ is the best you would do. My wife uses a Moto G on T-mobile HSPA+ and I can't tell a difference between data speed for her and my Moto X on LTE during regular use. Cheapest option (assuming only you on the contract) is probably a T-mobile pre-paid SIM. There is a plan from their website with loads of data, but only 100 min of voice per month for $30. They have several other options.
Not knowing how long you will be here, selling your phone and getting a US Pure model (will also work when you go back to UK) might be the best option.
Mine is a network unlocked Moto x in the UK, and i would be relocating permanently to the US, but dont want to sell off this one and get a new one in US. Was checking if there is any way to get the LTE bands enabled in the US or any network provider who uses similar of most of the LTE bands supported by the UK edition and will manage on 3G for the other duration.
