[Q] Restoring IMEI on motherboard replacement - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My Galaxy Note fell and now the screen has a few cracks and it doesn't start I took it to Samsung service station who Quoted an estimate of over 19,000 INR for replacement of motherboard and screen which is pretty high to me as I bought it for 22,000 INR. If I replace the motherboard and screen myself will the IMEI no. get null if yes how do I restore it ?Will I have to load Android OS again if yes how?
Please help.
Also where can I find genuine original parts in INDIA I saw few on some sites which were US based or should I search locally.

Replacing screen won't change Your imei, but changing motherboard probably will (to some new imei) , so it won't be lost. Probably there will be some rom already installed on it, as it is made for note. Else You will have to use Odin like always.

[Q] IMEI Is not the same as on the sticker.

Hi everyone,
maybe you could help me
I bought Samsung Galaxy Note from Ebay, I noticed that IMEI on the box and on the sticker behind the battery is not the same as on the phone itself.
The IMEI on the sticker behind the battery is the same as on the box.But if i check
*#06# on the phone it is not the same IMEI.
???????
The guy I bought it from, claimed the phone was brand new.

It could be a innocent mistake, say the seller had checked the devices and mistakenly replaced them in the wrong box.
The ultimate question is how much you paid for it. If it was really cheap, then you have to ask the question why?
Maybe its a refurbished one, and somehow he has managed to get some boxes.
Me being the suspicious type, i would return it!
But hey, i could be wrong

It wasnt that cheap.
if device was mistakenly replaced in the wrong box that really would not be the issue for me.
The problem is,
Sticker with IMEI under the battery is same as on the box, but not the same as on the phone if i put *#06#.

It sounds fishy to me. Someone could have changed the phone imei
Sent from my HTC HD2 using xda premium
*Replaced nv_data.bin maybe. I dont know whether its possible.
*Does the *#06# IMEI begin with 35 ?
It might be the default Samsung IMEI showing up as a result of a corrupt efs partition.

I would complain, return and buy from somebody else.
All three numbers should match on a brand new phone. If the sticker doesn't match the read out, then somebody messed with low level software or hardware, e.g. taking the case from one phone and sticking into it the hardware from another...
Just my two cents..

Defiantly return it. I cant think of any legitimate reason for it to be like that.
Refurbished unit? Maybe!!!
That means someone has been doing something with this phone for sure.
Anyone could tell me where I should be looking for warranty void sticker on my Galaxy Note as I suspect that one is missing too.
Most likely you won't find that sticker - it's often inside the phone, between two parts of the phone case. Not knowing what you are doing when taring apart, you just rip the sticker in two pieces and Samsung techs will notice.
Besides - Return it. ^^ (could be stolen)

No display on brand new galaxy note n7000

Hello Friends,
I got my note before 1 week after that i updated it to ICS 4.0.3 via samsung kies software but after that i m facing problem like no display on screen sensor working because when i touch phone it vibrates and phone front menu keys lighten up . It really annoyed me i contacted to samsung customer care they told me software issue because it is not properly updated via kies, but service center engineer saying hardware issue he is saying that they have to change motherboard and lcd of the phone so i told him please change i phone and replace me with new one but they are denying only saying that we will change the parts but i m having doubt on them because they make money from samsung so plz help me what to do living in INDIA.
One more issue facing that after update i installed NFS shift game works but when play only white screen shows no car no world details nothing plz help...........
If there is SW issue then check with rebooting to Download mod (vol down + Home +power)
If it is successfull, then flash any stock ROM
If engineer told you, then likely it should be HW issue and it is new so they will change under warranty, usually replacement you can get if issue withing 24 hrs of purchase, this remains common policy.
Lol...they always say they can't replace your phone. But if you shout like a rogue before the customers, they will come to a deal .And you also call the customer care and say your problem and ask them for the replacement.they will talk to the service centre and they may agree for replacement.
This is my real life experience with my SGS 8-9months back All you must do is repeated follow up behind the SC guys and CC.Then they will be forced to replace....But make sure remember any identification mark on your phone before you give it.Those bastards may just replace mobo and display and give it back.
Though there is nothing costly apart from the mobo and your display. They make up nearly 25k-27k and the reset is just 5-7k

I have SGS 1 and just broke the screen after 1 month, that never comes under warranty though i got replacement. Its totally depends on multiple things. I have note of my friend with flash counter 10, even i replaced under warranty. this happen just b'coz service centre owner is my patient. But in routine terms they hardly gives replacement after 48hrs.

Simply check if your original IMEI has changed. If it has,They have replaced the mobo.IF not not, maybe they just fixed it as it would been a software issue. My friend's phone's IMEI got changed when he replaced his Note's mobo. But it was out of warranty as it was water damaged. And generally authorized SC guys dont get that must cheap to say they have replaced mobo when they havent. As they have to provide you the job sheet and enter the same into the server. So samsung has records of what they do.
As for the games,I think its a software issue.Just try to flash a stock rom again

Confirming from Samsung office
As i contacted to samsung customer care they are not sure whether IMEI no .will change or not after replacing motherboard. Because My Cell's IMEI no is same which is on the bill ( i checked it now)that means no IMEI no. changed which simply means no motherboard replacement (according to ur experience). This means Samsung Service center cheated me then how he can write on the receipt motherboard replaced. I saw that slip on which they wrote POB changed. As all data is feeded online then? Why he kept phone for a week saying that motherboard is coming& all.
And also samsung service center guy told me that by replacing handset by new one My phone's IMEI no. will change ( that means not found on the bill because previous one is different from new one ) and also issue of sale's tax and all he is saying that samsung will not change piece so, i have question how you guy's got new one's?
Please help me guy's.......................

As i contacted to samsung customer care for motherboard issue they told me that IMEI no. may be change after replacing motherboard or samsung overwrite that IMEI no. in this case previous IMEI remain same but i mailed to CEO's office then they told me that if motherboard changed then your IMEI should change ............
I m confused .....................
One more thing samsung customer senior member told me that for replacement go to service center then call us they will talk to manager of service center then they will decide. I told them service center guy scratched my phone badly it is true bt i have front and back lamination so after removing tht lamination piece will become new again so what to do for replacement? INFO: Replacement charging port for N7000 from ITSTEK works perfectly!!!!

NOTE: I am in no way affiliated with ITSTEK or Amazon. It has taken me so long to find a good replacement charging port for the N7000 I wanted to share this with my fellow N7000 users on XDA.
100% ORIGINAL BRAND NEW Samsung N7000 Galaxy Note 1 & I9220 Charging Connector- micro port Flex & Mic, mobile phone repair part replacement, Samsung part no: GH59-11676A - Why buy copy or refurbished Parts and risk damaging your treasured & such expensive handset, Only From ITSTEK The UK`S Original Parts Specialist.
This is my third replacement Charging Connector and the only one that looks exactly like the original Samsung part and works perfectly.
No signal loss, no excessive battery drain, mic issues, etc.
I paid £18.95, which is cheaper than the Samsung Service centre were quoting me (£35).
I asked a question about whether this was an OEM part or not on Amazon and got lots of helpful replies.
The basic gist of the answers was that if you bought it from ITSTEK it works perfectly, buying from anywhere else was a bit of a risk and in most cases was a copy that suffered from the normal copy issues.
The answer is in the product name:
100% ORIGINAL BRAND NEW ..................... Only From ITSTEK The UK`S Original Parts Specialist.
So why take the risk of ordering from a different seller for a couple of quid saving and end up with a dud.
I am sure the previous two replacements I had purchased were copies.
They both cost much less than a tenner.
They had signal problems and didn't quite look exactly the same as the Samsung original.
The two sets of raised connectors were silvery in colour, not golden as on the original Samsung part.
The text on the board was close to the original, but not exactly the same, missing the production date etc.
Hope this helps some N7000 users out there, it has taken me six months in total to replace my broken Samsung part with a good quality, fully working replacement.
I was so impressed I actually wrote a product review on Amazon.
NOTE: ITSTEK are based in the UK but can ship internationally (according to their blurb on the Amazon site).
Update after 2 months of use
I have been using this replacement part for over two months now without issue.
The charging works perfectly.
The microphone hasn't gone wrong, which happened with a cheapo copy I tried.
The battery is not draining abnormally.
The signal strength for WiFi and GSM-HSDPA is consistent and strong.
Frankly I'm amazed, I thought I would have to pay the Samsung service centre to sort this out.
Which kinda goes against my grain..... I like to fix stuff myself.

Front glass screen replacement on international variant, best option?

Hi, ran a search first but no luck. I own an international (asian I think) Note 9, which I accidentally dropped yesterday from my hand to the floor and landed on the screen and I found out Note 9 screens suck because it fell from waist level and it shattered even with a tempered glass screen protector, thought it was the protector at first but turns out the screen took all the damage. Thing is I'm in the US, I purchased this because I needed a dual sim version. I've reached out to Samsung and apparently they won't touch the phone (much like the other thread I found about a guy in the same situation but in the UK), there's no ubreakifixit store nearby and I don't get the prompt to send it in, I was thinking of giving it a shot myself but watched the video tutorial and seems to hard and I fear I might damage it beyond repair. Any other advice other than get a new phone? not many local repair shops about, there's a few iphone ones.
Your best bet would be to take your device to a 3rd party repairs shop and get them to fix it. As the UK Samsung Service Center won't touch imported devices, even if they are official Samsung Devices. Don't try any large chain repair shops as they use official Samsung Repairs Devices and won't touch import devices either for fear of loosing their official Samsung Repairs Certification.

US Samsung ubreakit locations will fix international phone screens. So if you can find a location near you, you can call to verify. (For some reason, if you call Samsung and ask if they will fix the phone they will say no, but the local authorized Samsung repair centers in the us got a memo earlier this year authorizing them to work on international devices).
Thanks for the advice, found a nearby repair shop. Not sure if it's still worth paying a 1/4 of the original price for repair, seems like replacing it might be best.

Yellow Screen Galaxy Note 9

Hi, after the March update, I found my Galaxy Note 9 screen turned yellow..
I turned off the screen, unlocked the screen and the screen back to normal..but the yellow screen will reappear...
Some people say it's a hardware problem and replace their LCD, but some people assume that Samsung technicians don't want to get dizzy and just say "you have to replace the LCD"
There is someone who brought this to the Samsung center, the technician just looked without checking further and said "the LCD has been broken" and he fixed it via safe mode (IDK the detail)
And some people solve this problem with FW flash via Odin..
I'm curious, do custom ROM users experience yellow screen too? is this really a hardware problem?
Thanks, and sorry for bad English

Those affected should. Samsung is greedy to force for hardware replacement instead of fixing their software. Samsung hardwares are expensive. In my country screen replacement for note 9 is about half of the second hand value of this phone.
Have you tried wiping the Cache Partition in Recovery Mode?

Note 9 yellowish scree
hi I've faced the yellowish screen problem recently. My phone is 1 year and 7 months old. I visited samsung service center in my city in India. 1st they told me it was your fault that because of your mishandling this has happened and some brainless person told me to go for replacement which cost around 21000 rs(300$) in India. But then i asked them to find any dent, crack or even a scratch on body or glass if its mishandling. Then i showed them this article. https://www.sammobile.com/news/galaxy-note-9-march-2020-security-update-broken-screen/
Manager head technician accepted the fact that this wasn't my fault any kept phone with him. After 20-25 days now i have my phone with screen replaced without giving a single penny. Samsung is such greedy company that pushes such faulty updates and loot consumers like they haven't looted us enough with such heavy priced phones.

Which city ?.
Because in Bangalore they kept for my phone for a week and returned it without doing anything.
Same issue not a single scratch, dent or bump. Mint phone. But Audio Dead.
They told me to my face and in writing that no Note 9 users have reported any problems after the update.
I told them to visit XDA and their own company community pages but they ignored me.
They demanded that the only way they would help is if I paid 26500 to replace the board. ANd even that would take weeks. Due to present situation.
Another guy in another city was quoted 18K for his Note 9 main board. So it seems they can charge what they want.
There is no fixed rate. They cant even match the rates on their own web site.
Lets just say you got very lucky or you have good contacts.

I am in Surat. I didn't have any contacts in Samsung service center. I went there and requested to look upon my problem. 1st the illiterate girl at the desk ignored me but when the manager/chief engineer came to know about the problem he peacefully heard me. I used my "Being A Doctor trump card" to further make him believe that i was no joking and lying. And ultimately I was lucky. Though i was very much prepared to go in consumer court if that failed.
They just returned my phone and told me to come back when I was willing to pay 26500 for a new board.
I have started a new Face Book Page Called Samsung India worst company.

did not work! can you give more information !?
Looks weird but its working for me, tap to switch on always on display then open the phone with fingerprint or other methods, screen becomes normal !!
So I opted to fix my own phone.
WHat I found was that the over heating had cause some microscopic balls of lead to have melted during the over heating and these were all over the main board. I suspect some got under the Amplifer 98512 IC. So I purchased the part form china for 2$. Purchased a microscope and fix it myself.
I also cleaned the main board in ultrasonic machine to make sure all the small balls were dislodged. Its been over a week and my phone is working fine.
I suspect if you try all the software options and nothing works. Open the back cover and look for these tiny balls. If you see them clean the board and put it back it may start working. If it has shorted something off course you will see the damage. May times just a clean and re-seating the flex cable solves the problem.
I wonder if Samsung return your old board if they charge you for a new one.
Hey, download this app PWMfree by going to this link https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78953726&postcount=48 this will resolve your problem. Once downloaded scroll down then allow access, that's it. I hope this help.
Hi , i also have a screen problem with my Galaxy Note 9 Edge but i don't know if it is the same as the above problems. The problem started when i turned on the "always display on" option and set the clock to orange. I don't know if this is a coincidence but as soon as i turned that option 2/3s of my screen turned to orange as seen on the attached picture. I tried reverting the options but with no luck. Anyone have any idea what's going on? Did i messed some some settings? I have the latest update installed.
Finally yellow screen fixed in 13 July 2021 update
From what I have heard if you use the gesture navigations instead of the on-screen button navigation method. You should not experience the green screen issue.

I'm curious, do custom ROM users experience yellow screen too? is this really a hardware problem?
Thanks, and sorry for bad English

If it's an LCD display they don't just turn yellow.
Flash it back to the firmware it was running on.
Rule #1 if the phone is running fast and stable, leave it be.
