Better Baterry Life ( Disable fast dormacy for SONY devices) - Sony Xperia ZR

Thanks To @mirhl for this great tweak!
COMPLETELY DISABLE FAST DORMANCY ON XPERIAs
fast dormancy should be a battery-saving feature of UMTS networks.
Tested:
Acro S
Ion
S
T
TL
TX
V
Z1 Compact
ZR
!Your phone must be rooted to edit system files
Every recent phone support this specification. Some times it's a real battery saver!
But others it is not. If your carrier doesn't use this feature your mobile will never enter deep sleep
If you think your battery life is too short -and you suffer especially from "Android OS" wakelocks- then this could be for you
First of all, you'll need to know your carrier MCC and MNC. You can found these on wikipedia or in your APN configuration
Navigate and open ./etc/fast-dormancy/fd_custm_conf.txt
you'll see two lines ending with MCC and MNC and two zeros
Change those zeros with the code you look earlier and save
Reboot and enjoy
Battery can last up to 30% longer after applying this fix (admitted you had this problem before)

Thanks but this is for 4.4.3 too ? because I didnt founded etc/fast-dormancy/fd_custm_conf.txt
Regards
Juan

@adryanodej It's working great :good:

Ok. Manage to changed the fIle. Tq. After reboot the battery increase percentage increase a bit. Will monitor the deep sleep afterwards. Still dont understand what the related this changes with the battery life.

Thanks for the tweak.. I will monitor my ZR's battery life, then give a feedback in a day or two.

Thanks ! I will test it right now

Already used it for 2 week now. From my view no significant battery impact with this tweek. Battery life about same as before. Revert to default setting. Im from Malaysia use Maxis network.

Unfortunately, I couldn't feel any difference in the battery life.
Thanks again for your appreciated effort, and hope the tip could help others

I also confirm no big difference, all though if you check battery stats there is definitely a difference in the number of wakelocks

Nope, this is a system file issue that is eating up the battery cause the cpu isn't sleeping well or something keeps running on stock.
And heating as well. I don't know why. Since this is 4.3 i don't know, have to wait for kitkat to move in next month and will see how things fare up.

I'm not responsible, If I Brick Your device. btw I'm not gonna Brick it !!!!
Bug
1. Lag (menu, animations)
2. Battery Issue
3. Offline Charging not working
as far as I know those are the main bugs.
Debug1. Go to Settings --> Developer Option --> Window animation scale & Transition animation scale --> "set .5x"This Reduce lags 98% 2.1 Go to Settings --> Developer Option --> Background Process Limits --> set "No background Process"
2.2 check ur build.prop, if there is a line 'persist.rildenabled' delete that lineThis makes phone to be in deep sleep and increases the battery life3. If u use cwm, probably it is clashing wit offline charging? Solution download the below chargemon and owerite in system/bin, please note you will loose ur cwm recovery.Note : If you listen to music, make sure to stop it from apps.
Great post. It really helps with the lag and battery.

If you need anything it' there in my ROM
Takes quite a while to charge, but left mine unplugged overnight(accidentally)with WiFi/3g off and absolutely NO drain.

Changing "Limit background processes" to anything else than default helps with overall smoothness - but I don't recommend setting it to "no background processes" (2-3 is the best in my case). Phone should go into deep sleep regardless of this setting.

Plus, you technically have an iPhone!
iR¡[email protected]!* via Tapatalk
I have been suffering from the battery drain issue thanks to Android OS never sleeping. I installed the ICS beta using the autoflash.bat file which, as well as enabling wi-fi and BT also included the following in build.prop:
persist.rildenabled=1
So I removed this line as it's not required. At the same time I also uninstalled LiveWare Manager which I'd installed soon after installing the beta.
Now my battery life is a lot better, Android OS seems to be sleeping (my phone has been on 3 hours and Android OS has only been awake for 20m). After 3 hours I'm still on 96%.
So either a) the build.prop change matters, b) LiveWare Manager sucks on ICS or c) my phone has settled down of it's own accord.

Does anyone know what Over-Counted is?

I have been seeing this in my battery stats and I have no clue what it represents. It just says over-counted...does anyone know what this is?
Thank you.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What does GSam or BBS show?
Yep. It's what used to be called miscellaneous.
Basically the os cannot know how much battery has really been used.. It's all a calculated guess.
For example, there is a file that tells android how much power WiFi uses when connected.. Let's say that file says wifi uses 2mA when connected.. Let's say then that 10mA of battery has been used in total.. Android then works out that WiFi has used 20% of the battery.
Ok, let's now pretend that you are sat very far away from your WiFi router. It takes more power to maintain a connection. Let's pretend that it really used 3mA.. In reality the WiFi actually used 30% battery but it is reported (because of the file) that it used 20%. When android adds up everything in its file, (not just wifi) it can only find 90% of the battery used reasons, because it doesn't know about the extra 10% used by wifi, because it expects it to be 2mA not 3mA. So there is 10% of battery used "missing". This 10% needs to be recorded because the battery usage must always total 100% (even though it kind of doesn't work like that anymore)... So it records it as this stat.
As always much appreciated @danarama!

[Guide] Improve battery life on marshmallow without any compromise on performance.

ya like many of you, even i had mixed experiences with battery life after marshmallow update. With doze being the new feature in M, battery drop during standby time was almost 0-1%. However, every now and then my phone refused to doze and would stay always awake. After testing several kernels with various governors and different battery saving techniques, i think, i might have hit the sweet spot (max battery life with ultimate performance).
Here's my settings..
1. Kernel : CODY Kernel 3.10.90
Governor : Performance
io scheduler : cfq (1024)
the kernel can be found here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63345022&postcount=32

2. Install Doze settings editor app
It can be found here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/root-doze-settings-editor-android-t3235130
after installing the app use the settings that i have posted in screenshot
Please Hit thanks to the developer of doze settings app.:good::good:
3. Optional(Install Greenify only to hibernate rarely used apps)
I got 4hr of Screen on time (average), you could get even more if you change governor settings. But for me performance matters the most so i am using performance governor which keeps cpu freq always to 1300MHz.
Please hit thanks if it helps you in any way, its the least u can do. :good::good:
If anyone has any better tips then please contribute (Be together, not the same)

Yeah everything is fine without google but some apps keep annoying by asking to enable play services
i verified this technique and sure it gives alot of backup than ever before. As i was facing serious draining issues(50-60% battery drain overnight while nothing was done with the phone) this method now makes my sparkle v last a whole day with 20-25% battery left at 8 pm. I also identified that mediaserver, mtkrild and logd were constantly eating my cpu when idle and drained 60-70% battery. After flashing Cody kernel, everything seems to be working fine. Fingers crossed for now...
But the miscellaneous is still too high compared to lollipop where it would be around 20-30%. That is the main power consumer in marshmallow where it takes up almost double the amount. Any way to stop that?

Miscellaneous battery drain is just unaccounted drain. Just change ro.build.type=user.
If u change ro.build.type to userdebug only then u can see miscellaneous drain (its actually hidden).
Just check this post to understand more about miscellaneous battery drain.

More battery drain when using sd card as internal storage
I am experiencing even more battery drain if I use SD card as internal storage (Android 6.0 "adoptable storage" feature. It is draining too fast even with battery saver turned on. If I reboot into safe mode, the drain is considerably slower (but still much faster than lollipop).
Can anyone verify this? I think the main problem is with the doze and the screen stays awake all the time.
BTW, In this Guide first two option requires root which requires zeus kernel according to the other guides posted here. So that mean for Android 6.1.1 I have to revert to stock rom.

That actually depends on your usage. Since you are on stock, your battery should be awesome, but weird that it isn't (especially when you said that it is unrooted).
it could be that your battery has finally reached its state of dying. The way to confirm this is to try another ROM, but that is your decision
To answer to your question, it may make the issue go away.

For the sake of troubleshooting, would you like to root your ROM?
If you do, install Towelroot app on your stock (I am assuming 4.3 Jellybean) and root your device. Afterwards head to SuperSU on Google Play and install it. And proceed to updating the su binary to the latest one.
After your root setup is complete, reboot and install Wakelock Detector. Give it a root access and a refresh for the first time.
Allow your Xperia SP to drain its battery like how you would normally use it. After hours, please screenshot the content of the app and upload it here so I can inspect it
if i use my phone with something like wi-fi ,whatsapp .....etc (not heavy apps) how much time my battery must hold it?
thanks.

You might wanna give more details like what apps you got installed, your usage, your brightness level etc. Also wifi, whatsapp does drain battery. How much screen time were you getting before with the same config? How bad's the drain when the screen off? Like someone mentioned above, you could root your phone and try Wakelock Detector to see if something's constantly preventing your phone from going into deep sleep.
Also your battery could be a dud but like you mentioned you haven't had your phone for long so that probably shouldn't the issue but you might want to make sure of that before switching roms. No point rooting/unlocking your phone and flashing a new rom only to find out that the issue still persists but if you wanna try a LP rom nevertheless, you could always give it a shot.
Much like yourself, I am suffering from rather poor battery life myself but my issue is most likely a dying battery. I am telling you this cause I have tried about a dozen roms and it makes zero difference so changing roms isn't a surefire solution. I use Greenify, PowerNap, keep the brightness rather low plus use a bunch of other battery tweaks but it hardly matters. My battery drains rather quickly either way (screen on or off). Even when my phone's in deep sleep, I still get bad drain so check thoroughly before you make the switch.
Did you check which app or feature is draining more the battery?
Sometimes, doing a factory reset will solve the problem. Have you tried it? Make a backup first.

Note 5 Battery life on Marshmallow

Hey everyone,
Hope you all are doing good. So I wanted to ask as to how your battery life is after updating to Marshmallow as compared to lollipop?
Mine has actually gone down and I am really pissed and worried. Have posted on G+ communities asking for solutions but haven't received any worthy solution so far?
Getting slightly better battery life with MM here...
Sent from my SM-N920C using Tapatalk
Slightly better on LP than on MM for me. I was getting more than 6h SOT before and now I can get only more than 5h. Cell standby is there most of the time and eating some ( not too much probably but still annoying) battery.
Envoyé de mon SM-N920C
Having the same problem here and still haven't found any solution
I am losing nearly 8 to 9% per hour on standby time without touching my phone on MM compared to 0.5 or 1% per hour on LO

hi,
Firstly, battery life overall on Marshmallow has been overall quite good (for me) .!
Similar to Lollipop.
But then all my Note range 2,3,4..5 has and still has, very good battery usage overall !
If i had battery " life issues" I would have done a bit of "investigating" or what is causing battery the drain?
Also, did you do a clean update or dirty?
I would also, monitor batter usage ....?
eg with a app like GSam battery app etc etc. (Play store, free app)
(Before you start blaming Marshmallow or system.)
You must also remember, some 3rd-party
apps might not been optimized for Marshmallow .. yet. ?
I have already experience this, with some 3rd party apps on Marshmallow !
If its system causing issues then remember , system apps, wifi, location always on , Facebook or some always on app, etc might be the reason.?
I would then consider taking drastic steps... factory reset and reflashing official stock Rom again.
You don't have to be rooted to do above !
Bottom line, you have to find cause /app /system app, and deal with it accordingly.
Good luck
Did you try the deep sleep fix by Dr.ketan ?
Note 5 which have knox triggered have issues going into deep sleep which will have huge impact on the standby time.
Try applying Dr.ketan fix on this page :

Hey, thanks a lot for such a detailed reply, really appreciate it.
I actually did do somewhat of an investigation after reading some posts and articles online. I am unable to find the real reason the battery time has decreased after I updated to MM. I did a clean update using ODIN to flash the latest firmware. It was the cambodian version that first came up. Later on when a Saudi Arabia version came up, I flashed that since I got my phone from Saudi Arabia. I performed a factory reset aswell and set it up from scratch.
I don't use the facebook app so I have disabled that, location is also off and wifi settings have also been optimized. When I check my battery stats, I don't see any app or any system app even that is consuming unusual amount of battery. "Screen" is always the one to use the most battery and is followed by "Cell Standby" and "Android OS".
I don't know about the third party apps much to be honest. There aren't much in my phone except for the usuals like snapchat and messenger and some other apps but none of them are consuming unusual amount of battery. I have turned on the app optimization so many of my apps are always optimizing.
If you have any more idea as to what should I do, let me know and i'll surely try it out.

Did you try the deep sleep fix by Dr.ketan ?
Note 5 which have knox triggered have issues going into deep sleep which will have huge impact on the standby time.
Try applying Dr.ketan fix on this page :

My knox isn't triggered I have checked that because I have kept this phone in it's stock state since the day I got it. Previously I used to root my phones the day I got them but this time I around I wanted to see how stock will treat me so I didn't root this one.
Dr. Ketan's fix is for knox tripped devices and asks for root etc so i'll probably pass on that.
Thanks for your reply.

HI,
It's good to see you are trying. Believe me we have to pinpoint any possible "wakelocks" that you have.Only then should you be able to tackle issue. !
Have you installed even GSam battery app ? It has a section to pinpoint " app suckers".. (their wording.) (No root needed)
Have you looked at your deep sleep data?
eg a app like Cpu spy should tell you such info .? or is your device always running in a low power state .? (no root needed)
Are you rooted ?
then yes issues it can be endless .!
Anyway ,
If so ,you can install battery apps eg Wakelock dectector or Betterbatteries ,to get more info ?
Then there is apps like Greenify or your stock Smart Manager ,that can tell you a lot .or nothing ?
have you disable processes with an app "Package Disabler" if so you can have "knock on" effect .(re battery drain )
Please note ...
that the stock battery app helps, but its very basic.Your Snapchat and Messenger ,is it set to auto update .?..thus causing wakelocks ,as apps has to check Status/updates.?.(battery drainers .)
Good luck

Hey,
Thanks for your constant support. Yeah I know that is the only way this issue can be solved.
I will install GSam right now and see what it has to say.
I was thinking of looking at the deep sleep data, haven't done it yet. Will install cpu spy as well.
No I don't use my phone in a low power state.
Nope. Not rooted. Thinking of doing so, what do you say?
I haven't installed Greenify after the update. I think buying such a heavy spec phone and then limiting everything kind of ruins the whole point of it, don't you think?
Haven't used package disabler cause it confuses me as to what to disable and what not to.
Yup my apps are set to auto update. The battery app doesn't show them using too much battery though. How to disable this auto update I'm kinda unsure?

hi ,
Rooting ...its your choice ,its your device .!!!!!!
however ,i can answer you in this way .
All my precious devices , ..eg Note 2 ,3 , 4...and a Note 8.0 tablet ,is rooted and i am really enjoying the "rooting "
capabilities /power ..to do what i want ..!
That said you would notice i did not list Note5 ?
No ,its not rooted ( had device since October 2015 )
Yet ,my Note 4 ihave ,same day ..rooted .
So it depends .?
I have found no need to root Note5 ,as i am happy overall with the whole experience.!!
smoothness ,speed ,themes ,browsing experience .!!
No irritating bugs ( Just sorted the few bugs i had out ..factory resetting .)
this time it worked .(Previously ,seldom worked ,factory resetting )
I ended up always, flashing Rom with Odin to fix .
Battery overall ,
eg .sleep mode ( night time ) i get about 9../10 hours with +- 3% drainage .
I am a "meduim power user" and get with overall use a day ...+- 35..40 % battery drainage ( +- 24hrs)so i have about... 55/ 60% battery left at end of the day .(eg emails weather updates ,twitter ,forums /web browsings ..Google Play store updates , Themes store etc etc . )
I feel i can achieve this as my device is tweaked right !!! Not obsessed,as to as some members with battery SOT ( time on ) .
Ok , Auto Update , Play store ?
turn off in Play store settings ,(see screenshot .....this taken with my Note5 , screenshot )
Gsam battery ,( see other 2 x screenshot ( taken on my rooted Note 3 , with custom ROM )
also notice in (re Note3 ) GSam setting screenshot that in sleep mode i got about 4% drainage re 10hrs standby !
Good luck
A lot is about the use...now I can get the same I had on LP with normal (for me)use :browsing, Tapatalk, some games, some Wi-Fi calling, texts, only Wi-Fi ...I wouldn't get the same with only games or Facebook or equivalent battery eater. Stock unrooted MM.

Hey,
Yeah I know. I have been a rooting fan since the beginning. My nexus 5 was rooted so was my note 3. This is my first phone that I haven't rooted, it's an accomplishment. Exactly, I am satisfied with my note 5 as well. Was very very happy actually but after the update the battery life has been a bit of a disappointment, otherwise it's great in terms of speed and smoothness etc. Even my iPhone lover friends are quite amazed at the performance of my phone with lollipop and even more with marshmallow.
I did the factory reset after some members on the G+ note 5 community pointed out but that didn't make any difference for me.
I did as you suggested, downloaded those apps and used the phone after 100% charge. Since yesterday was a holiday so I didn't use the phone much as I was on my laptop. So after taking off my phone at 12 in the noon I used it somewhat and had more than 50% left even when I woke up today. Used the 50% and right now I'm on 15% here are the screenshots of my usage. I usually charge my phone as it reaches 40 and charge it to around 80 85%.
I hope you can help me after seeing these. *fingers crossed*

Hey,
Thanks for your participation. Yeah I know all the depends on the use and I don't think my use is too heavy. As you can see in the screenshots I attached in the comment above. I use a little bit of social media, no Facebook though. Whatsapp, Instagram, Snapchat, g+, flip board, fb groups, messenger and some internet surfing and some texting and a little bit of texting and some short calls. No games. I have one two but I hardly play them.

hi,
Well we can try and id culprit /reason.
In app GSam top right in your screenshot you have time on etc.
You have to press drop down small icon and list will appear of options.
see screenshot. Then its up to you to monitor different options ?
Good luck

Hey,
I only have 3 options there, probably cause I'm not using the paid version.
I was thinking of downgrading to lollipop to see how it performs there now? Do you know how I can do that? Since I remember that there was a bootloader change when lollipop arrived and so after updating to lollipop, going back to kit Kat was quite difficult. Is it the same for marshmallow?

hi
Firstly, i also have GSam free version..!...... very strange.?
Yes, i have seen few post on XDA, re downgrading to Lollipop.
Unfortunately, i cannot help much with that. Just make sure it's for your model
N 920C..?. etc.
Also check via Google or so YouTube video how to do it.,!
Yes, the bootloader would have been updated? (. i think..)
Good luck
