Greetings,
I recently just purchased some Nook HD+ tablets and am new to the Android platform. I have yet to open the Nooks. I have spent the past two nights reading here about how to root, sideload, and other similar topics. I have gathered a small bit of understanding from the readings in my free time but I am now ready to get serious and would like a few questions answered before I begin, just to help me grasp it all completely. Once, I have these few basic questions out of the way, then I'll really get into deciding on a route to take and see whats best for me. I understand some would rather say "read this" and just redirect me but if you post, for the sake of discussion please entertain my questions.
1) Does the B&N stock android software offer any advantages, even if only one, (specific app, or feature) over custom android software? Out the box is it like stock Android 4.0.3 with B&N overlay similar to *Sense or is it B&N software through and through like Fire OS?
2) I have seen two "groups" N2A and another which I forget at the moment, that offer pre-made image files for download or MicroSD cards for purchase. Are these all the same files no matter where they come from or are they unique? Are all variations of CyanogenMod or are they from the ground up different? What is the significance of using one over the other?
3) Lastly, is there a very plain (vanilla) stock Android 4.4.2 for Nook HD+ that would be like virtually getting it from Google themselves? I'm talking from bootscreen to features and functions. Or all roms will have some sort of custom "branding" in them?
Thank you for helping me get started. I am sure I'll have more questions as this thread develops. Again, I appreciate any kindness offered.
1. There are only a couple of advantages of the stock OS besides being very stable. You have access to the B&N store apps if you made prior purchases on other devices. But the biggest advantage for some users is the reader app. It is better and smoother than the Nook reader app for Android. Plus it will read children's interactive books and Nook for Android app will not. The OS is pretty much Android with a B&N interface overlaid and replacing Google's. I don't know how to compare to Sense or FireOS since I have never seen either. But some things are totally different than Google, for instance in settings there is no Enable Unknown Sources setting.
2. The pre-made images are exactly the same as you get here. The only differences are that they do the work for you and furnish the SD cards.
3. There are several ROMs here that tweak the interface, but most are just variations of CM. You will have to research them yourself.

So far so good...
Thanks...
Is there anyway to get the updated 4.4.2 rom with the B&N overlay so that you get the B&N store or thats not possible? Also similar question for the Reader app itself? Has it been transported or is development in process on transporting it. Or is that not going to happen either.
I have no prior purchases from B&N and don't foresee me buying any in the future as I can convert my own files from purchases elsewhere. So I'm leaning toward updating. I see different variations of the updated rom. Is there a way to install the rom direct to the device, therefore leaving the MicroSD card slot free to use as storage? Or is that not recommended because it erases the Stock OS. Is running the OS directly from the device or from the MicroSD card more stable? Just general knowledge about CPUs and data transfers, I would imagine running the OS from the MicroSD card drains the battery a bit more and would exhibit some lag in comparison to running directly from the device internally, or is this not a problem?

For the first two questions, no and no.
Yes if you look at the dummies guide linked in my signature there are directions there for installing to internal memory. But even if you install to SD it is pretty stable and the part of the SD not used for the operating system is available for storage. There is really no difference on battery or lag. And your warranty is intact. Just pop out the card and stock is not affected. That said, I use CM10.1.3 on internal memory and love it.

Almost done...
If I do install to internal memory, I lose my warranty? Is there a way to re-install B&N stock OS if I need my warranty later?
When choosing to run from the MicroSD can you see the files that are on the internal Nook memory or is it non-existent?
Also, Is it still relevant to use older slower MicroSD cards, or has the process improved over time and cured this? I happen to have a 32GB Sandisk Extreme laying around and want to know if It's necessary to go out and buy a new Sandisk 32GB Class 4. I've found some for about $18 from reputable retailers so not a problem but I do have the 32GB Extreme laying here lol.
Backing up to a question before... Do all the roms have a custom boot screen and "branding" or is there one available that would be vanilla android 4.4.2?

First questions. Yes and yes.
And I don't known what you mean by non-existent. All files can be seen with root file managers.
And yes old slower cards are still best. But you can try that extreme and see how it works.
And all replacement ROMs show the 'cyanoboot' logo on booting if that is what you mean (the Nook has a locked bootloader so 'nook' always shows too). No pure vanilla. And 4.4.2 is still too cutting edge in my view. Stick with 4.2 (CM10.1) or 4.3 (CM10.2) .

Thanks,
When I get home today, I'm going to update the Nook HD+ using your guide in the signature. It all seems relatively straightforward. I'll comeback to post my conclusions and any further questions I may have. But thank you.
Charged up...
Ok so I'm charged up and power on the device, register it and get the Update notification:
I am on ver. 2.1.1, if I choose to update the stock OS to the latest version will that have any affect on me later deciding to update to CM?

No, as long as you registration it with B&N before you put CM on it, it does not matter what version you had on it. I don't believe it, but others have commented that it gets harder to boot from SD once you have put 2.2.0 on it.

Universal root...
In the Guide I see Universal Root Rev0 and Rev3 both sound similar to what I think I want to do, just don't know which to pick? I'm running B&N Stock and want to be able to install .apk from unknown sources leaving everything else pretty much untouched.

Rev0 is outdated and not even available anymore. But you don't need to root at all to just to enable unknown sources. Just flash the zip. Root is not necessary.
BTW, what guide are you talking about? The Dummies Guide does not mention Universal Root. Do you mean my HD/HD+ CWM thread?

Update and some questions...lol
So I have CM 10.2.1-ovation running on internal Nook HD+ using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317500. I noticed the Recovery menu is 6.0.2.8... Is is necessary to update this to the newer 6.0.3.6? What are the differences? Even if not, can you point me in the right direction, if not willing to explain how to get it updated?
Moving on...
I have my backup of B&N stock saved.
I used my Sandisk 32GB Extreme Plus microSDHC card and didn't encounter any errors to my knowledge lol.
I guess thats pretty much it, its done.
A few questions about the platform, apps, whats important vs not, etc...
1) I have apps spread out across the 4 or so blades. Coming from iOS platform, I usually ONLY use another blade if current one is full. Is there a reason why some apps are on first blade vs middle blade? Is there a reason why the media widget is on the desktop, etc? Am I free to remove these any way I want? What about the bottom dock/home buttons there are three I believe. The Gmail, Browser, and something else I forget, I think contacts. Can you touch on this area.
2) Certain apps like gmail, google+, Apollo, Voice dialer, whisper push all seem unnecessary to me as I do not use them or know what they are used for yet. Can you elaborate their usage. Can these be uninstalled, or removed in any way. I of course would like to keep the Google Play store.
3) The clock and date on the homescreen, is that a third-party widget or is that the Stock Android system? Is the customizable (font and size) without a third-party app or is it only like this?
4) I am looking for the ESPN SportsCenter app and noticed it's not compatible with my device. It says it's for Phones only. If I am able to find the .apk will Android allow for me to install on the Nook even though it's not a Phone it's a tablet?

You are jumping all over the place. Your previous question was for applying root to stock and enabling unknown sources. Now you have installed CM10.2.1.
No, you do not need to update that 6028.
And the rest of your questions are specific to CM10.2 now. You are best asking those questions in the CM10.2 thread here:

So far all is well on the Nook HD+ with CM 10.2.1... I appreciate your guide link and help.
Now with the Nook HD+ that is on Stock B&N. To enable Unknown Sources leaving the B&N stock, earlier you use the phrase "Flash the zip" is all I need to do. Can you explain a bit more what that means or any pointer is helpful. Thank you.

Get the zip from my HD/HD+ CWM thread (item 3). Boot to CWM and install (flash) the zip just like you did the CM zip on the other device. It changes a hidden setting in stock to allow you to install applications from sources other than the Nook Store or Play Store.

Root Explorer is the best.
And you should not have used a 32GB SD as your CWM SD. You should have used a relatively small 4-8Gb SD so you can keep it for future use. You WILL need it again. That said, you can return it to 32Gb by using the program SDFormatter free on the web.

My first complete backup and wipe for the CM10.2.1 tablet isn't mine and I will no longer need that full CM10.2.1 setup. However I did use that card to flash the zip on the Stock B&N because I felt it was easier to follow your instructions that way... Now for future reference, I do have a small 2GB card I wanted to use following this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2062613 method under "1a" to make a small CWM to simply flash the Stock B&N in the future. Is this possible? Or does it always have to be 4GB?

I just bought my nookColor yesterday and loving it so far. That said, I'd definitely prefer to have the Android marketplace on it and have more games, utilities, etc.
So I was going to root it later today, once I pick up a microSD card, but then I watched one of the 'I rooted my Nook' videos on youtube and the guy in the video mentioned that Barnes & Noble will be coming out with an update to FroYo in March.
So...should I wait to root? I'm assuming that BN's update will likely interfere or delete the root. I'm okay with having to re-root but wanted to see what people's thoughts were regarding the possibility of BN being jerks and if their update can sense a root and brick the Nook or cause problems?
I rooted my Nook and that's basically all I use it for now... The only reason to go to stock is to have the ability to use "read-to-me" books. You can't go wrong! But I can't give you advice on how the rooting will affect updates. Worst case scenario will be that you have to re-root.
Hope that helps; I'm a newbie too but haven't been disappointed yet!
I always thought there are ways to unroot and go back stock.
Check it out in development forum.

Personally I bought my NC specifically TO root it. Got it about a month ago and within an hour of purchase it was rooted and I never looked back.
I'm using just a basic root with stock eclair. Works for me just great. I run an overclocked kernel and launcher pro as my default launcher. Loving this thing!
Nookie froyo off of an SD card is good too and something you can setupt dual boot easily using guides in the dev forum.

I would start slow. just rooting opens up a lot of options with market/google apps and overclocking that should keep you busy while you read up on the other options. I don't like running firmware from the sd card but thats just me. you can also dual boot from internal memory which doesn't wipe your stock rom either.
what ever you do you can always go back to bone stock easily so don't worry about that.
Root it. I got mine 2 weeks ago... I'm not a software guy, I don't know any programming languages, and I've never rooted anything before (Nexus One is still plain vanilla) I tried Nookie Froyo and Honeycomb off of the SD card, but they weren't really all that functional. Neat, yes, but not much more than a novelty.
I went the AutoNooter route 2 days ago, and things are looking good. Working Youtube, Gmail, and other apps.

What was not functional about them? Also what is the downside of loading off of the SD card as opposed to internal memory, I mean other than having to purchase a large SD card I suppose?

What runs smoother? Froyo on SD or AutoNooter?
I'm buying a Nook today and going to root it and make it an Android tablet but there's sooooo many threads out there about this (and being updated every second), so I just wanted to know the basic - which is faster?
I don't like a choppy, sluggish OS...
Root it now. It is not much of a big deal anyway. You can return to stock in minutes if you like. I don't think that we have to wait for something better from B & N, even if they update to 2.2 (i don't think they would...). They don't want to sell a tablet but an e-reader with some extra capability( and they did it well), you can read your books, surf the net, listen to music, play videos.
They already announced bandmaster will release a version of honeycomb in the future.

OK, I am going to be getting a couple NCs for the wife and I. So I have been doing a lot of reading and want to make sure I have a handle on evrtything. I have decided that CM7 is the way to go. If I am understanding correctly I basically create a CM7 image on an SD Card (cheap Sandisk seems to work best???) and then I can run it from the SD card without installing it on the internal memory of the NC. That way I can pull the SD card, reboot and have a stock NC. Is that right? Will the performance suffer from running it from the SD card? Are there benefits to installing on the internal memory? Also, if I do install it to the internal memory, how do you use it as a normal NC? Do you just get the Android Nook app? How does that compare to the actual Nook software? Do you lose any functionality? My wife will use hers primarily as an e reader whereas mine will be a tablet first. Does anyone have experience using different browsers like Skyfire and Opera? Those are what I use a lot on my phone. I have seen the name Dolphin HDused alot, but I don't know anything about it. I am sorry for all the questions and if my terminology is not 100% accurate. That is correct; with one exception. CM7 will mount the "Media" partition, and changes there will be reflected on the stock OS (this partition just stores your files, pictures, music, etc; nothing related to the system).

Yes, performance will suffer. I used to run from SD card, until i finally gave up and tried internal. Internal is much faster, and of course makes it easier to use you SD card for pure storage.

From what i have seen, you will lose the "Read to me" functionality, and the look and feel of the market version is different of that of the stock version. But, by using CM7 (or rooting stock), you can gain access to Kindle and Google books, which kind of makes up for it.

Opera is by far the best browser; it is the only browser with renders web pages with the GPU; this is what allows smooth scrolling and page views (like the iPad has). Dolphin is nothing more than a skin of the stock browser, and isn't worth worrying about.

The Android Nook app loses:
* Read To Me
* Shelves
* A quick shortcut to the current book you're reading
It gains a couple of features: a fancy page-turn animation, and a true black & white "night" mode. (The stock reader's night mode is more of an off-white on dark gray, if I remember right.)
If your wife has a lot of nook books, she may really miss the shelves feature. Without it all books are listed on one page, ordered by Title, Author or Most Recent. That's most recently purchased, not most recently read.
With no shortcut, every time you return to the app you have to scroll through all the books you have downloaded to find the one you're currently reading. That could be annoying if you've got a few dozen or more loaded.
I get around both problems by using a third-party reader. But to use it, I have to strip the DRM from the books I own, which is at best a gray area legally.
Most people who read a lot will probably get more out of a stock nook, or better still, a nootered nook. If it's nootered (rooted), you get all the features of the stock reader, as well as the ability to download any number of other applications including Kindle and Overdrive (the library lending app.)

Thank you very much for the input. Your answers have highlighted the fact that I need to do a lot more research. I am not even sure what the NC can do out of the box. While the wifey will use it primarily as a reader, she also wants to be able to play games and download apps. Can this still be done on the stock OS? Can you install a different browser (opera) on the stock OS? I've seen the term "rooted stock" but haven't read up on it much since I figured I'd just have to root them to do what we both want. I'm guessing "rooted stock" is somewhere between being rooted and keeping the stock OS. Would this allow using the native reader intetface while still allowing access to apps via the Android market? If I can get it so she has a nice browser, can play games (Angry Birds, etc) and keep the native reader (which she really likes) that would be perfect. BTW, before anyone starts yelling "USE THE SEARCH NOON" like they do on some forums I have visited, I know these answers are probably all on this forum somewhere and I am continuing to research on my own. I have been and will be reading a ton of old posts, etc. But, it is also helpful to have one thread to list all of the questions that pop into my head.

I was new to Android a couple months ago and hesitant to root so I decided to put CM7 on an sdcard. I bought a cheap card and the thing worked but it was agonizingly slow. I bought a Sandisk 8GB class 4 and it works GREAT - very fast. I have never overclocked (haven't gotten the nerve for that yet) and it is very speedy for my needs. I later rooted stock which is what I recommend for your wife. You put a launcher on (I like zeam) and then you have your B&N shelves and access to the Android market as well. BTW, you can also get the Amazon Appstore and check it out daily because they put up a free app every day - very cool.
Good luck with your decision. I love my Nook!
Cool, so it looks like it'll be CM7 for me and nootered for her.
One more question since I have your attention. Is there a way to tether the NC to my Droid X and connect to the internet? My Droid X is totally stock and I have no desire to root it or mod it in any way. I have used PDAnet to tether to my laptop, so I'm looking for something similar to that.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
I can tether my Win Mobile phone (getting an Android phone as soon as my contract runs out!) to my NC. My phone creates an ad hoc connection and I had to make a small change on the Nook to get it to work. I'm pretty sure you will have no problem. Just search and you will find the details specific to your phone.
The only (wireless) tethering you can do WITHOUT rooting is the paid Verizon service. No other wireless rooting will work (all need superuser). I gotta ask though - any reason you don't want to root the X? Its not really anything different from rooting your nook..

I guess it's really just fear. If I brick my phone, I am royally screwed. If I brick the Nook, it would suck, but it's more of a toy anyway. I know it's probably very safe and easy, but I just keep thinking of the horror stories I read when I thought about rooting my Q9m back in the day. That said it is very likely that once I root the Nook, I will end up rooting my phone. Baby steps

i purchased 2 nook tablets for an 8 and 11 year old. im debating whether to not root it because i think it wil be easier for them to follow interface and the only downside i see is having to pay for apps that may be free on amazon or play store. can i have some input here? is there a super easy rooted rom that a child can follow? or are there many free aps if i just keep it as an out of box nook. thanks so much guys
Rooting by someone()'s All-in-one at the Nook HD, HD+ General section works great for me as it is very easy. The HD+ still works like the original and at the same time can use apps from Play Store (or side load). Only if you want B&N updates it could mean losing your root, but as someone() disabled automatic updates you can wait with updating until others have checked the effects of the updates.
Getting ADB working is the most difficult part. I already had a so called 8bootloop, restoring the original software after experimenting a bit too much, but within half an hour I got it all working again. B&N profiles were updated after logging in, even the profile I already made for my daughter was available. Just my view, more experience users may correct me.

If all you are looking for is apps, you can side load without rooting, just load on your machine then adb install. I find s lot of free apps don't even show up for tablet, but I copy over from my phone and adb install them, usually without problem
Ps, you can also load a different launcher of course....

Yep we are all hd folk here, can't speak to the tablet, but so far the ota hasn't borked us. And once adb is working, you can side load anything as long as it doesn't touch /system. Including a launcher which is highly recommended since the b&n launcher won't show all the apps easily.

If you can get ADB working on your nook tablet you should be able to sideload apps without rooting. And they should be safe if B&N sends an update to the ROM. But you might get better advice by posting in the Nook Tablet forum. Users there know more about the Tablet.

I have a new Nook HD+, upgraded from the Tablet (which I loved), and so far am enjoying it alot. Got a new SanDisk Ultra 64gb micro SDXC I class 10 memory card for it. Have several hundred B&N proprietary books and several hundred bought from other sites including a few really large medical texts and journals that are fairly graphic intense. Can anyone give me any advise regarding setting this up to get the maximun use (the Nook experience) for this card? I am still learning alot and not real computer savvy so use small words.... I see alot of words like Rooting and CM10 and am not sure what all of this means as of yet. Appreciate any and all help I can get and hope this is the correct forum to post this in.
Thanks

If books and reading are your priority, I would get the Play store up and running so you can install other readers. Generally rooting is for more involved application s and android tweaking. Going to cm10 is really more about a native android tablet experience, May not be important to you. See leapinlars thread in development to install the changes and enjoy!
Ps the reason for the play store is the paucity of apps from b&n

If you came from the Nook Tablet running stock software and using B&N proprietary books, you probably want to keep running stock B&N on the HD+. So I would recommend you go to my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature and flash the Gapps + Extras zip with my CWM SD. That way you can enjoy your B&N content and use Play Store to get and install more applications to get the most out of the Android experience.

Do I do this to the card on a desktop then mount it to my Nook or mount it to the Nook and download those zips to it there? If I do it to the SD card using the computer and adaptor then, when I mount the card will the Nook want to reformat it or should it just recognize the card/zip? Have a smaller card I may just try it on first to make sure I do it right. If I make an error or have trouble will reformatting the card return it to its initial "state" or would it be ruined and a new one required? I appreciate the information. The instructions seem to be written pretty straight forward so hopefully I wont have any trouble as, previously mentioned, I am somewhat lacking in computer-ese.
Thank you

You do everything on the PC until you are ready to install to the nook. Then you put the card in the nook, boot and a new program will come up automatically. Just follow the directions in the thread.
And you can reuse the card for something else later if you want.

You need to download the file and copy it to the card. Then insert the card in the nook and boot. The CWM program will come up and your have to choose install zip from SD. The rest of the directions are in the cyanogenmod recovery section of that thread. Just follow the instructions there. When done you take the card out and boot back to stock and you have Play Store that you can use to install even more apps.

CM10 (Android 4.1) has three graphical interfaces. Phone, tablet and phablet. Phone for small devices, tablet for big devices and phablet for medium devices. The interface is controlled mostly by screen density and size. The tablet has the single combined navigation/status bar at the bottom. The other two have the split controls like you want. When Android went to 4.2 it did away with the tablet interface, so that is what you probably saw on the Nexus 10. To make the HD+ running CM10 move to the split phablet interface you need to raise the lcd density in /system/build.prop. The default for the HD+ is 240. You need to raise that to get to phablet. I don't know the exact figure. I know 300 is phablet. Or you could just switch to CM10.1 (4.2).
And CM10/CM10.1 are the only alternate ROMs for the HD+.

Yes, will be ... if anyone start work on this ... or current dev's have time for this. HD+ is so new ... and actually little bit specific and not common item.
Hey guys, I am about to root and install CM10.1 on my new Nook HD+. However, I absolutely hate the Nook app that comes in the Play Store and would like to keep the stock HD+ reader app for my ebooks as I read a lot and like it so much better. Is there a way to do this, like apply just a root to the stock ROM and copy the APK over or something like that?
Looking forward to all replies,
Chris

Nope. The stock nook app will not run on CM. The only thing you can do is dual boot. That is, put stock or CM on internal memory and stock or CM on SD. You can do it either way.

Running the stock Android version of the Nook Reader might not be an issue anyway; apparently you can't even get it to run without sideloading it.
Of course, since I cracked all my Nook books so I could read them in a generic reader app, it's not really much of an issue for me.

Two of the better ones are Aldiko and Moon+. Both have free and premium versions. Note that if you're using Calibre to strip the DRM, you could just as easily convert them into mobi format while you're at it and read them with the Kindle reader, too.

I want to second Aldiko. I have been using it for years now. The best part is there is an Aldiko Sync app that will use dropbox to keep your library and more importantly your POSITION in your books synced across MULTIPLE devices. Takes a little setup but once done you can seamlessly jump from tablet to phone to your other tablet and back. As long as you leave the reader app, by time you can pick up the other device its been updated via sync!.

I use a combination of Calibre Companion and Overdrive Media Console. After using Calibre Companion to pull the books from my PC over WiFi, opening them from that app gives the choice of which epub reader to open it with. Overdrive will show up in the list and import the book flawlessly (typically it is only intended to import Adobe DRMed epubs from public library sites). I find that Overdrive is the best epub reader next to the stock Nook reader, followed by the Nook app. Note that this method relies on your epubs not having any DRM. Slickpub is a new epub reader that is very fast and simple but is not quite there yet. Fabrik is another excellent reader, but it's very slow. You can install the Nook app from the 1Mobile market (which you will have to download from their website, it's not in the Play Store).
I too would like to run the nook reader in CM. Some of the decent alternatives include fbreader, alreader, coolreader, moonreader, and aldiko (don't judge them by the defaults, which range from bad to completely insane).
My current method of selecting books is to use ES File Explorer to locate the book and create a shortcut.
I downloaded the Nook apk provided in this thread, works on my HD, I'm on Slimbean.

Just had to post here again. Even though you still can't use Play Books to read epubs stored on your device, I just discovered you can now upload epubs to Play Books and then they will show up in your Play Books library. Still a pretty basic reader but better than most. Still debating whether or not I want to upload my entire library to Play.
Any change in status?
Gosh, so close to rooting my nook, and pretty much the only thing I like about it is its E-Reader ability... so no change in status on this? No way to keep the native reader after installing CM 10.1 or 10.2?

That sounds like winning to me!
Thanks Leap! That's a great idea, I had been considering installing CM to SD, but never actually considered the reverse of that and from what I've read CM is more stable on eMMc. Is there a link to a particular guide, or would I just insert the Stock install in place of a CM install from one of the tutorials for setting it up on SD card? Also, I've been debating just rooting, and adding the ability to install unknown apk's from one of your other tutorials. What is your opinion on that option?
Also, I maybe over analyze these situations, but one of the video tutorials I watched which seemed to be thorough and effective recommended not just doing a factory reset but also wiping the cache and the dalvic/k? cache, before installing CM... is that a correct process, overkill, or something that could cause problems down the line? I ask because I never read anything about doing that in your CM 10.1/10.2 post. Thanks again for your time and info. Have a great day!
P.S. After trying to become more effective on my own I finally found the Stock from SD link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2330083 <--- There it is for anyone else who may have the same interest as I do
Thanks again Leap! P.S... can I use your universal root rev3 to root stock on sd? I know you had a link to old extras to allow outside apk's for stock on sd, just curious.

If you read the instructions on that thread verygreen tells you how to root it as part of installing. Do not use the universal root. But you can use the extras I made for stock on SD.
And you do not need to wipe dalvik and cache in addition to factory reseting. The factory reset already wipes both.

Have you tried out other (Android) ereader apps?
FWIW I've been using the Mantano ereader (free version) and like it far better than the stock ROM Nook ereader.
Weirdest Issue
Hey, so I'm trying to format my SD card with SDformatter v4.0 and every time it hangs at 50% and it just sits there saying it's not responding? I've uninstalled and reinstalled SDformatter and redownloaded in case I had a bad download or something, but it still hangs everytime... it seems pretty simple and straight forward, and for double check I tried to format with native windows format and zipped right through just fine...?
If this continues to be an issue, can I use Easeus partition manager to do both the formatting and setting active?
P.S. No once I crack it open to android it will be my first full android experience, I have had a iphone for years but when this contract is up am likely switching to android for my handset as well.

Hahaha, well back to wal-mart I will go lol.Stupid sdcard
What's really weird is I can't even close SDFormatter from Taskmanager, just stays there even after 10-15 minutes and trying to shut it down a ton of times.
What does happen if I try to use Easeus?
Also, have formatted several times with Easeus and it does so fine, but after easeus format it hangs without even getting to 50%, literally SD Formatter dies at 0%... it's just so weird??? :-/
Have another SD card in the package I'm about to try, it's not micro but that shouldn't matter. If it formats that one I'm headed to wal-mart again, if not I may just risk trying the other one if it seems to be my rig not liking SD Formatter.
P.S. I've had easeus run an error test and the original micro I'm trying is coming up clean...?
Yeah SD Formatter just hung up at 20% for another brand new out of the box sandisk brand card... I'm gonna try an adapter and see if it's just my port that SD Formatter hates, but after that I'm gonna have to just go easeus route I guess...
Update!
Verdict is in! Turns out SD Formatter hates my native SD card reader, just borrowed my wifes usb adapter and it formatted super fine and super fast... Ugh, so dumb, but now I'm good to go!
