Can someone clarify what the bootloader identity is for 4.4 VS 4.4.2?
I think 4.4 is 30.B2......right?
I only ask, because after unlocking the att bootloader I flashed (via twrp) another 4.4.2 ROM
Will that change the BL version?
Or can I rsd back to 4.2.2 and go through the OTA update for att then go back and flash twrp and root?

If you are on the 4.4.2 bootloader and flash back and ota, your phone could brick.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. What bootloader version does 4.4.2 have?.
I know that mine is 30.B2 running 4.4

I was under the impression that once I accepted the KitKat update, I would no longer be able to return to 4.2.2 and root/all that.
Is this true? Can I still use RSDLite to go back?
I was wondering the same thing on the AT&T variant

You can downgrade to 4.2.2 using RSDlite after the 4.4 upgrade. I have the VZW version, not the AT&T version, but I assume it's the same.

As of now you can use RSD Lite to go back to 4.2.2. In fact if you want root in 4.4 you need to go back to 4.2.2 to start the process.

If your boot loader is unlocked just flash the recovery in fastboot and after doing that it will ask you if you want root, just hit yes and bam you got custom recovery plus root. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2534850

The sbf firmware no don't even try, your best bet is to wait for either eclipse or kangakat ROMs to be updated, you need to have a unlocked bootloader with a custom recovery. Please people do not take short cuts with your bootloader

For some reason I can't find a sure answer or How-To on rooting 4.4.2 for my GSM DE on T-Mobile. Someone point me in the right direction. This 4.4.2 update popup is getting really annoying.

Is your bootloader unlocked? If so I am sure it will only be a matter of time before someone updates the TWRP custom recovery for a Moto X on 4.4.2.
The only way to root 4.4.2 is off your phone's bootloader is unlocked or can be unlocked.
There is no root for locked bootloader
Here is the process for unlocked bootloader
Unlock your bootloader
Install custom recovery
Flash SuperSU flashable zip
And your done

But can you use the version of TWRP that is for 4.4? Or has it been updated for 4.4.2? Don't the custom recoveries need to be updated for the new versions of the OS?
The same version of twrp works for 4.4 and 4.4.2.
So essentially the same steps that I performed for Rooting 4.4 applies to 4.4.2 ? I thought something would have changed, but I'll take your word for it.
And is it safe to assume my bootloader should stay unlocked since I already went through the root process with 4.4?

Yes and Yes. I also have a GSM Dev Edition with an Unlocked Bootloader and the same root method worked and the bootloader remained unlocked.

It is always the same if your bootloader is unlocked in that you flash custom recovery and install a superuser. The only thing that would change is if the custom recovery changes for the new version of the OS or if the super user is updated.
I just outlined it all here:

Going through the root process has nothing to do with unlocking your bootloader. Once unlocked, your bootloader will stay unlocked until you relock it.
Sounds good. I'll just reflash back to stock and update then root.

Well I just got done flashing with the Moto X Restore Utility, updated to 4.4.2, flashed TWRP, and rooted.
Aw well. I was going to contribute that if you were annoyed by the 4.4.2 OTA constantly in your face: you can disable the MotorolaOTA system service.
My Moto X won't boot, and it's 4.4.2 so the stock 4.4 image from Motorola won't flash. I get some type of gpt downgrade warning.
What can I do? I don't care about preserving data.
Thanks

I don't understand why you believe you can't flash 4.4 over 4.4.2 with dev edition with an unlocked bootloader. That only applies to locked bootloaders.

sorry you are wrong there that applies to all Moto X's
you can not flash 4.4 before the bootloader will not downgrade you will get a error when it tries.
the only upside to having a unlocked bootloader is that you can root any version of android by just installed a custom recovery then installing the SuperSU flashable zip file.

You're right. The 4.4.2 bootloader can't be downgraded regardless of model.

The 4.4.2 bootloader can't be downgraded; but I think the 4.4 system image and kernel could flashed just fine on an unlocked unit even if the bootloader has been upgraded for 4.4.2. You would need to flash the 4.4 manually so that it doesn't try and flash the 4.4 bootloader though.

This is what I had to wind up doing as the other image I had wouldn't flash. I edited the xml to skip the gpt and bootloader, and it flashed 4.4 back. Updated again and I'm all good

please dont do that if you need to flash the 4.4.2 for verizon. please grab it from SBF they have added the 4.4.2 SBF package for verizon on the website. i do not recommend editing the XML file for the chance or bricking your phone.
I was on verizon galaxy nexus for over two years. I wanted better radio performance, so i got a moto x. Nexus bootloader was unlocked and I was a bit of a crackflasher.
I have unlocked bootloader on moto x and installed twrp and supersu.
I did all this before taking firmware update, so I can see how it runs on 4.2.2. I ran it awhile and wanted to try kk out. I downloaded the ota update and went to have it autoflash, but instead, it rebooted into twrp.
so, I have downloaded rsdlite (i used to have a droid x, so i am familiar) and will get the 4.4.2 firmware downloaded too.
Q: can i flash aosp 4.4.2 roms with my x in it's 4.2.2 state or do i need the 4.4.2 update first?
Q: are there standalone radio (baseband) files around I can download and flash in recovery?
Thx!
RSDLite when you have an unlocked bootloader?
Grab the 4.4.2 sbf, extract the individual imgs, then flash with fastboot.
You will find the moto x is no nexus I'm afraid. Not a flashaholics phone for sure. There's just a few ROMs....not a lot of mods, and whatever you do, once on 4.4.2....never downgrade. It can cost you your phone. Dev edition or not.
Just a heads up!!
BTW....not knocking it....I still recommend it to everyone I know!!! Except the couple rooting and tinkering types....then I recommend the N5 hands down.
update : upgraded to kk firmware with rsdlite. bootloader still unlocked. I am on Eclipse now and enjoying it.

I moved from a galaxy nexus last fall to the X. I definitely flashed constantly... now with an unlocked bootloader (MotoMaker!) I don't have the need. Xposed is all you really need to get features you want, unless you just like to tinker.
