gs. I am loving my Moto X running 4.4.2 except that recently the YouTube app has started causing huge drops in battery life. This is the latest app for YouTube as well. I've been force closing it to try and curb the drain, but it's still pretty annoying. I've also cleared data and reinstalled updates to the app to no effect. Advice?
Question... Out of that time, how long was you using it? Lol

I'm having the same problem with the app keeping the device awake. Are you having this problem while connected to Wi-Fi? If so, do you have a Chromecast active on your Wi-Fi network?

On and off Wi-Fi and yes to the Chromecast.
Try unplugging all your Chromecast active on your Wi-Fi network and use your device normally after a full charge.
I suspect Chromecast keeps the YouTube app running in the background when you're done casting videos. I have no evidence though.

It seems to continue even after I've left the house for the day but I'll try just disabling Wi-Fi tomorrow and see if anything changes. Interesting theory.

In the past I always rooted my phone to install a slimmer rom and remove bloat, but with the X I've not needed to do that. I honestly have not felt the need to root and I'm looking for a solution that sees my phone's OS operating as it should that doesn't require rooting.

I'm not sure, cause I'm rooted...and I've many times had to convert you tube to a user app in order to greenify it.....so you may not be able to even do it unrooted if you tube is a system app on your phone....but greenify will work on unrooted phones now, wont it? I don't know the limitations with it tho unrooted.
But yeah, if that won't work...not sure what an unrooted phone can do about it....especially if its a system app.

Same issue: used YouTube for less than a minute today, battery has drained much faster than usual. YouTube accounts for 30% of battery used which is crazy. I always kill apps when I've finished with them so something odd is going on "behind the scenes"..

Anyone ever issues with facebook app timing out? My wife's bionic keeps saying connection lost, tap to retry. My bionic does not have this issue. I wiped cache, restored to factory, uninstalled and re-installed facebook.
Works for a bit then the problem keeps creeping back up. Any ideas?
The phone is stock and we are on verizon. I am wondering if I should flash the stock image over itself again.
Any input is highly appreciated.
Thanks
Luis
Its been happening to me a lot lately, even on stock (but rooted).

I had the issue on my bionic, but it seemed related to Verizon's network. I connected to WiFi and it worked. I haven't had any issues since I did that yesterday.

I have the same problem, and it seems to be related to the facebook app itself, not the phone. It's always been rather slow and buggy, but a few versions back, this connection timeout problem surfaced.
Half the time, I just use the web browser. It's significantly faster.
They updated the client today. Not any netter in my experience. I'm starting to use the browser version instead.

Haven't seen this issue yet, but curious about it. I had issues when I did some changes in the Battery & data manager setting. Try turning data saver off and see if problem still happens. Personally I don't use that setting, had to many issues trying to listen to Pandora for long period and having it shut down Pandora during standby with that setting turned on. I beleive Facebook would do the same during standby.
Same

My moto x is rooted with stock ROM still. Have had no problems for the last like 3 months I've had it. Then yesterday it won't open apps and even the launcher freezes up. I'm still on 4.2.2 as well. Any idea why it would just stop working right? I haven't downloaded anything new either. I haven't had enough time outside of work to search myself. Any help is appreciated.

Since switching to ART runtime every time I reboot the turbo android optimizes apps which makes a restart a very time consuming task and takes a toll on the battery. Any suggestions?

why do you need to reboot your phone so much?
Same problem and switched back to dalvik
I have had two cases in which the phone has reset on it own. Other times when I have had connectivity issues with data or Bluetooth a reset is typically the quickest fix.
Sent from my XT1254 using XDA Free mobile app
I had been running art and had that same problem. For me it was 70 apps. I switched back dalvik.
I'm thinking it probably had to do with apps that aren't compatible.
That's just a guess
That's how ART works in 4.4. Its not a problem, just a reality of the runtime until Lollipop. Every device does it IIRC.

That's not entirely true - I think optimization of apps while on ART during every boot might be device specific because when ART first became available, I switched to it on my Droid MAXX and optimization was done only once, during the initial boot, never after that.

Just sold my S5 as I'm buying this phone today but wantedvto chime in. I was running ART on the S5 and the phone only optimized the apps on the initial restart. ART was confirmed enabled and running without this reoptimization problem. This is probably a Moto issue.

All 2nd gen phones have this problem. If you don't have too many apps installed that runs in the background or if you don't multi task, it may not be a problem for you.
Okay I tried the app and put the settings to aggressive and I can confirm that it works. Also, I don't think it's placebo

Me to but Motorola should take full responsibility and tell us what is going on with g2
Almost there
I used it for some hours.... it really improved multitasking, less launcher redraws and less app killing. But it isn't a miracle, sorry to say.
Before Moto G 2, I had a Moto G 1, and it has better memory magement.
And before that, I had a Razr D1 (Motorola 1Gb ram, single core, Jelly bean) and it was even better for multitasking....
Really disappointed here.... I wont recommend Moto G anymore,,,,
I came from galaxy s2 and I'm disappointed with multitasking. I will wait for lolipop update but if nothing will change I will sell that phone and buy Lumia because I'm tired to flash custom roms.
Previously I've used Samsung devices, which I root the moment I get them. I've tried stock and its horrible, rooting is pretty much necessary. But then I got this phone and its got just about everything I wanted in a ROM on my Samsung devices. What has been the experience of you lot? Is it that big of a difference?
It's just like everyone else says. 100% personal preference.
I root all my devices primarily for Xposed framework. It's something I pretty much can't live without. The stock ROM on the X is near flawless as is, so I have no desire to flash a custom ROM, but Xposed gives me the little flourishes that I like that aren't offered by the stock ROM.
Aside from flashing ROMs on your Samsungs, were there any root apps that you grew accustomed to using? Maybe Titanium Backup? If so, then root. If not, don't. You'll have an amazing experience either way.

Couple random little things, like viper4android, but your sentiment was the general mimpression I had as well.
It is all personal preference. I used to root for the Roms, but the Moto X 2014 is nearly perfect on stock. I still root because I like to be able to install an ad blocker and be able to reboot rather than just powering off.
Although I initially rooted my X on KitKat for xposed, I believe its perfectly good even left as stock. I only rooted after moving to Lollipop to reduce the DPI as that's the one thing about stock X that really gets on my nerves. Everything else is gravy.

It is, yeah. But I've always been more comfortable doing it via apps or build.prop editors..so..
Besides, I tend to change it around quite a few times till I've settled on one that suits me best. I'd rather not be tied down to a computer to do it. Rooting is just a one-time hassle so I prefer it that way. Plus, greenify, adblock, etc.
