Xperia Z1S? - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I'm looking to probably come back into the Android world, I was checking out the Z1S on T Mobile and then I find out the bootloader is locked.
Is that still accurate or has something been figured out?

Bootloader is locked and that isn't too likely to be fixed soon. It also doesn't have root access, which is even worse. Devs are working on this but haven't had much luck yet as far as I know.

Yep, Z1S is very restricted.

[Q] Returning my Xperia TL, Suggestions on what to get? (AT&T)

I have the Xperia TL lt30at, I LOVE it . Sadly though, it cannot be rooted because bootloader unlock allowed is set to no:crying:. I was given 2 weeks to try this phone out which will be up this friday and I would like to get a phone that can be rooted and is on par or better than the TL. I also have this thing called "trade up" which allows me to trade in my phone for 75% (300$) of its value (400$) credit towards a new phone at any time. So I can trade in for the Z if/when it comes out for AT&T if/when it comes out in the US. What on AT&T market right now for 400$-500$ should I grab? I'm new to Android from iOS and jailbreaking and the TL is my first android and I have loved it. So XDA, please help me out a bit and toss your opinions around. I will give thanks to all who give informative :good: and helpful replies and none to those just being dicks .
Thanks guys.

Samsung SIII? Similar feature-wise, but slightly bigger. Has LTE and is available through At&t, and also apparently has a big dev community for AOSP, but if you purchase from at&t, it may be a special version in which the bootloader has been locked down. I guess you'd have to do some sleuthing in regards to that. You could always just return your TL to at&t and get an unlocked SIII from a third party; that way you'd know that you'd be able to unlock it...
Thanks for the reply

I considered the SIII but the colors are a bit too saturated and the price tag was just a bit too high for me. Thanks for the response though.
LT30at can be rooted just not bootloader unlocked. Z will not be available on at&t.

That's the root method to use but you have to install the backup and restore app manually before you do it since at&t removed it from their firmware.

If you really want to switch, I'd say go for an HTC One VX/X possibly the white X. The sounds are much better and the phone feels just sexy in your hand! But you will have a mainstream 8MP camera (if you are concerned about it). I will not recommend Pantech as they are relatively new in the high end smartphone business AFAIK. Buying an Ion will actually be kind of a downgrade from the T. LG is not too durable and the Samsung devices that you have mentioned here seem to be a little outdated. AFAIK.
Thanks for the input man. I like the HTC but the screens seem a bit off colored in pictures compared to the bravia screens. What do you think?
I can't find how to install it manually. Any guides you could direct me to? Sorry in advance if it's staring me in the face and I'm blind.

Download the apk for backup and restore. (it's in the link I posted above) Enable unknown sources in your android settings and when you open the apk it will offset you the option to install.

I figured it out with a little more help from a buddy. Thanks so much for all the help and patience. Any suggestions on what to do with a rooted phone? I have lucky patcher for my pandora. What other cool/fun stuff do you suggest? I may just hang in to my TL and trade up when the Z hits at&t. Not sure though

I mainly rooted to remove the bloatware AT&T apps ( but now I use the LT30p firmware so no bloatware from AT&T). Z will not be available through AT&T, would have to get it unlocked instead.

[Q] Recognized devs and general public - bootloader ?

Bootloader locked Z's - will there ever be any luck for us, or are we pretty much stuck for the lifespan of our devices ? Because I know that for other devices that ship with locked bootloaders, there's a little hope from what I've understood, as the community is making an effort to bypass their devices respective bootloaders.
However, I'm unsure about XpZ because of Sony allowing unlocking directly on unbranded devices, that's why I'm asking - can we who ****ed up with our purchase of a branded device actually hope for something, or are we better off selling our devices and replacing them with generic devices in the foreseeable future ?
( my carrier didn't lock my Arc and S, Z caught me completely offguard, I feel cheated and stolen from )
No hope whatsoever. Bad choice.

i think with the release of the us tmo version there is a good chance that this can happen. The exploit would be the same for all most likely

Wait, are you saying that the bootloader security has been broken for the C6606?
If so, amazing news! If not, I'm not sure why the release of another variant would make the security being broken more likely

No, the tmo version was just released (sort off) not available in tmobile stores just sony right now. the bootloader is locked on the 6606 and if any locked variant is broken first it will be this one...(other locked variants should be able to use the same exploit)
Given, this is all assumed and nothing has been done...
Ah, so you just mean that it's more likely that more people will be working on this then? Fair enough

Hang on, this is for an unlockable bootloader? As in unlock not allowed?
My understanding was that there was no way to do this - period.

My understanding is that the security is very strict, with multiple checks involved, all dependent on each other. It seems to be very unlikely that it will be broken, according some discussions I've read in several threads here.
You can never say never with these things though, as there may be and often is something that the designers of the security overlooked or never even thought of. It's not as if locked bootloaders and security haven't been overcome before on other devices after all

I read that you got xperia Z,Hope to see your kernels soon.
Kexec is a possibility buy nobody has successfully built it yet for xz. Doomlord I believe has a mini loader as one of his many projects but it will require a lot of work and I don't believe devs see this as priority as there are so many unlockable devices out there. Mine included annoyingly. So short answer is there is hope, but don't expect anything soon. And for completeness sake, the Motorola hack doesn't apply.

i really wanted to unlock my bootloader for my z... anyway possible... i love the phone... absolutely LOVE the feel of this thing.... its just i MISS aosp... and I NEEEED IT! i mean im rooted 4.2.2 but i cannot BELIEVE no one has been able to unlock this thing.... ive seen devs do it to get s-off on htc phones in past... there has GOT to be a way to get the job done... i dont mind shipping my phone to someone to do it... but ****.. i dont want to get rid of it. but i might have to go back to my crappy s4 that EVERYONE has... i hate that damn phone. i hate the stupid shape. i hate samsungs ui. i hate the crappy plastic... i hate that stupid button. even tho i can run google edition firmware on it... i LOVE the z... its unique... and its very well designed... seriously.... anything at all... plz dont be negative... i know the answer im just hoping someone somewhere has done it and will speak up....
Sell your device and buy an unlockable version if you really want to have the bootloader unlocked. That's your only option.

So you're on the T-Mobile version of the Z and are rooted and on 4.2.2? Please show me some links on how to go about getting my phone like yours because everywhere I look on XDA all have instructions on the international version. By the way do you still have the ability to use wifi calling?

To me it is bad as there is a slight difference in quality then it not work properly, if not at all. We need concrete facts of what Unlock Bootloader damage on our phones and what, how the features still working. That what I didn't figure out yet.
I already unlock for a while to try doomlord kernel, x-reality i can't figure out there is different but camera is bad when unlock bootloader condition especially in low light, there is lot of noise , after relock i test in the same place and light and i can completely sure that bionz work on locked bootloader

Ive actually explained this before so i wont do that again. But here comes a theory why ppl belive the features aint working.
The cam stopped to work completley pre 4.3 right ? Ye back then the Bionz was affected hence the camera didnt work with unlocked bootloader. The camera itself cant work if the Bionz chip aint there. Google for image processing chips for cameras in general and find out what it is.
Although, Sony fixed theese issues with KitKat and here it comes, brace yourself. If you google this you will get ALOT of answers about it. Everyone suffered from bad quality photos since KitKat was introduced(even the normal users that never fiddles with their phones). So, NO it aint the unlocking of the bootloader that does it. Sony fixed all thoose problems ppl were having with unlocked bootloaders. It is the new software that does it. Media reviewers actually wrote about this aswell saying that Sonys cam wasnt any good no more. Google is your friend.
A bonus theory here: The "conspiracy theory" : Wouldnt it be smart to make some features look abit worse on the Z1 when the release of the Z2 is just around the corner ? If a customer wants a really good camera phone and just cares about that. And when he is comparing the Z1 with the Z2 and found that Z1 is just as good camera wise but half the price he would buy that one i would guess. Buuuut if you make sure the camera isnt working as good on the Z1 but super good on the Z2 while releasing the Z2. Then that consumer might buy the Z2 instead. It could very well be marketing stunts so the normal user would go "ehhh this Z1 aint working properly, ahh well ill just buy a new one like the Z2".
And ofc, when the Z2 has been out for a while the software will be fixed on the Z1 making the ones that didnt jump the train for Z2 happy again so that thoose might continue to buy Sony Xperia´s.
All big companies wanna make money. They have smart ways of doing so aswell.
I will buy a OnePlus One when that is released here, and if that is so good as it seems to be and that the company will continue to produce "flagship killers" to the half price and a more humane price. I will continue to support them instead. But usually everyone making money will get greedy.

I google "Root Sony Xperia z4" and this came up

Hello All,
So I googled "Root Sony Xperia Z4" and one click root came up for Sony Xperia z4. Is this just a scam or new? given the fact that a lot of people are waiting for a root for this phone. The page seems legit and professional, but just FYI for people who know mores about root.

i doubt this gonna work. is fishy to subscribe premium service & i suspect in the end need to unlock bootloader.

They can even "root" a device not even exist yet (at least not publicly). So I don't think it will work.
