Would it be possible that we ever have a RAW camera in our Z1? I know that for some phones, devs have made camera app that can shoot in RAW mode. Is it possible to do the same for z1?
I am interested too. RAW format will give to our pictures amazing quality.

But I don't know if that is stable enough.
It is not possible as hardware does not support
Anyone know anything about phone camera sensors?
Wondering if it's a hardware- or software-limitation that stopping us from shooting in RAW rather than JPG.
Can't seem to find anything remotely close to a whitepaper regarding the technology.
I think Android OS doesn't allow saving raw files taken by the camera.
Furthermore, since each cell phone could mount different sensors, each brand would have to develop a lot of drivers to save in raw and provide "album app" with drivers to be able to read them.
In addition, raw files are so heavy that they need more time to be saved (slower camera app).
Most of people uses the phone for take and shot pics, almost anybody is really interested in the extra quality provided by raw... Even usually compact cameras can't shoot in raw mode, and I know some people who own a dslr and still shoot in jpg...
I would love shooting in raw mode too, but I think it's a huge utopia.
there have been several android based devices that allow shooting in RAW, the Z seems to be restricted by its driver..\
you can shoot with uncompressed png in some software, but other than upping the file size it doesn't do a lot to improve the quality.

Yes,it's a file created directly from the cmos or ccd without any software manipulation.

Don't doubt what you fellas are saying, though you have to admit that - despite the lack of a dedicated imaging engine supporting the sensor - the speed of the inbuilt NAND and the capabilities of the S4 shouldn't really preclude the Z from managing this (surely better than the most capable Cybershot).
Admittedly (or I'd gladly accept) there'd be a lack of modes like panorama and burst, but that's of little bother when framing a single portrait or landscape shot. Would be great (a pipedream?) if they could implement it...might give PureView a run for it's money (personally think UltraPixels are a non-starter, but Sigma made it work with Foveon so there may still be some legs in it).
Can continue to hope, I s'pose.
Guys, it's a tiny phone sensor. Not even most compact cameras can shoot in RAW. It just doesn't have much use for a phone.

Beg to differ. Reckon by having the direct sensor output rather than anything post-processed we'd end up with a few happier folk in these forums.
And given the additional data there'd be more room for movement using the likes of Snapseed and Photoshop Touch while mobile.
Not intending for this to replace any dedicated equipment, but the only good camera is the one on you: if you can score that perfect moment with only your phone, the opportunity to do so with the greatest amount of raw data will make up for some of the deficiencies of the sensor, allowing for post-processing on the desktop.
Hello, I'm considering purchasing this camera, but the OOB 10MP samples are way too oversharpened for my taste and my current LG V30 blow them out of the water. The 40MP shots, however... ha no content the P20 is awesome. So.... is there a way to shoot through Open Camera or another at 10MP and get less processed results? Is there a way to shoot RAW at 10MP? Anyone have samples? Thanks.
to shoot raw in 10Mp, open your camera app, switch to "Pro" mode, go to settings > Resolution. choose [4:3] 10MP and at the bottom, switch-on the RAW format option. here is a sample of RAW vs processed image.

Hi. So, I think of getting this phone, but couldn't find any info on the most important question for me, so I'll be grateful if SO makes this check for me.
If I'm not wrong, the stock camera app doesn't shoot RAW. Can someone try if it is possible to shoot RAW directly from Adobe Lightroom app(there's a free version). If yes, please tell me which camera it uses - I guess the 48MP one? The output(at max resolution) I guess will be also a 48MP jpg - if possible I'll appreciate a fullsize example.

I just tried it on my Mi 9 and it does NOT allow raw on the free version of LightRoom. It only allowed me to shoot jpeg or dwg. Hope that helps.
BL
DNG is actually raw. Thanks. And what about the stock camera app? Only jpgs?
The camera used gives a 3000 X 4000 RAW (DNG) image with Lightroom so 12 mpixel. This is the standard way of using this Sony camera module, the picture I shot was 26 mb so had it been the 48 mb mode of using it the img would have over 100 mb and not much better, I would think. This is the free version.
With the Pro version the app claims to edit RAW on all of the cameras on this phone. Unclear if this means the 48mp verson of the standard camera since this isn't a camera per se, only a software mode of the standard camera.
No RAW with the stock camera as far as I can see. Perhaps if one installs the GCam app. This must be sideloaded and is not on Play Store since it is a not-so-much supported port of Googles camera app from the Pixel line of phones. I guess paying a couple of $ per month for Lightroom might be worth it if you are serious about photography!
Thanks for the help guys!
Is there any app that can capture RAW files with the 64MP camera?
I understand it's actually an 80MP camera, but 64MP jpg's are produced by the camera app.
Thanks.
Will the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro camera app work? Just to check the difference.

BTW, just discovered a GCam version for Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro. Hardware is very similar to X2 pro ....

Not working for me. App doesn't install
I am also ver interested in getting RAW images from this phone ....no matter the megapixels 16 or 64 ( of course 64 megapixel will be better)
Maybe someone could port the Gcam from Redmi as they use the same main 64 megapixel sensor.
yes must get 64 mp raw files
It does appear as though the X2 Pro can now capture RAW files!
When in the camera and you select Expert, you can toggle whether to capture in RAW format or not. The phone takes two pictures in one shot; one in JPG, the other in RAW

That's good, would you be able to share a stock cam RAW?
Also, I know from experience in other phones that the GCAM DNG file is usually better.
Would you be able to share both a stock cam DNG and a GCAM DNG ?
Thank you and have a nice weekend !
