I am curious as to why it is so hard to root the note 3 on kit Kat? I have rooted phones for years, but by no means do I really know much about it other than reading rooting instructions on xda. Two days ago I rooted my fiance's S III and it couldn't have been easier. What makes rooting our phones on kit Kat so difficult. I'm just wondering. I guess if the answer was easy we would have a solution.

No exploits have been found to crack kitkat. Too secure.

In order to root a phone you need to find an exploit, or loophole in the system. The phones you previously rooted were simple because someone found that loophole and packaged a way for you to do it. As android develops it becomes more complex, and secure. Samsung also is growing and adding their new security feature called Knox. Don't forget at&t your carrier. They request Samsung to lock the bootloader. So now that there is all this code and security involved, root access is a pain in the a$$!

There's a lot of info floating around out there so I figured I'd try to set the record straight. And I can't be the only ones with these questions, so it might be good to have the answers all in one place.
From what I understand, the root for the note 3 on other carriers is working, even though some are still listed as untested. What would happen if one was to try the procedure on the at&t variant?
Next question is more of just a general outlook for the rooting future of this device. Is it looking like its doable, a hell of a challenge, or just plain impossible?

Same goes for the Rogers Wireless SM-N900W8 version in Canada... Usually anything that works for the AT&T perks for us so I'm just waiting....

From everything that I have read over the past couple of days AT&T has a locked bootloader. The TMobile version doesn't have one. The reason why root works for it is because it flashes a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP and then roots it from there. That is not possible with a locked bootloader. I would rather get the TMobile version of the Note 3 and just SIM unlock it and use it on AT&T but coming up with $700+ dollars is not an option for me. So I can only hope an exploit is found for the AT&T version.

There will always be a workaround. The phones only been out a little while so it's always best to wait and be patient. Yeah it sucks but early stuff can be unstable. No matter how hard it gets lock down it's not going to be "unlockable". It's just a matter of how much work it's going to take to unlock it.
Well its pretty much going 2 be a hell of a challenge. I'm coming from att Galaxy S4 & it has been crazy over there as far as this bootloader locking with att. U do have root but things haven't been easy by no means so I'm sure it'll be no easier with this device, if not more difficult. But hey I'm optimistic, if we can just get root I'll be happy...

I find the loki recovery to be easy on the S4.. remember Sprint and Verizon also will have lock bootloaders.
I doubt the two largest networks (Vzw, AT&T) will be left in the dirt.

Everyone thought the same about the S4 with the mf3 update then it got rooted with safestrap to load roms. Everyone thought you couldn't reverse it but it is now reversible. There is even a one click app to root it. Just give it some time.

Cf-auto-root does not flash a custom recovery. It just roots.

hey guys,
I'm considering rooting my GN3 because I miss a number of the things from my rooted GN1/2. I recently picked up my new GN3 via the AT&T Next program and was wondering what sort of issues/implications I'll run into if I decide to root my GN3 and trigger the Knox 0x1 flag.
Will they not take it in as a trade next year when I'm ready to upgrade?
I'm not concerned about warranty, or lack thereof for that matter. But if AT&T decides to not allow me to upgrade after 12 months, then I'll reconsider rooting.
Thanks guys, and my apologies for the dumb question.
I'd assume anything that affects warranty would affect the next program.

I rooted and it didn't trip Knox and I also bought mine thru the next program

I didn't even think about that. I guess you could always sell it and pay off what you owe and then get a new device if it was a factor.
You're better off selling it yourself. In 12 months you'll have paid off $420 so you'll owe $310. You should be able to get at least $450 if you list it right on ebay. Keep the box and all the original stuff and unlock it. That is enough to pay the remainder as well as have an extra $140 to put towards your next device.

hey, so what is the method you used to avoid tripping knox sensor, I noticed chainfire and vega method..which did you use and why? I had a note 2 as well.
but I'm not willing to void warranty since I have the best buy warranty..:good:
I used Vega method because it was the only one at the time and I have never updated my phone either

I highly doubt they will care if your trade in is rooted. They are going to send them/sell them off to be refurbished anyhow. I have traded in many phones on upgrades...All rooted.

You need to upgrade to official KK 4.4.2 then use towelroot to root. Install busybox. Then supersu. Then safestrap recovery. Then flash you a KK rom and live the dream.

I have sent phones back to att using the warranty in bricked status, when they had the counter thing I also sent with the counter tripped and every time I get support on my devices I have never been asked about the rooting or never been searched for the Knox status. I really doubt it they will know what Knox is.
Trust me they know. They techs are all trained and required to know about that. They can use that against you to void warrenty...but you might ocassionally find a tech or 2 that doesnt care. I soft bricked mine myself. I made a total noob move and wiped the stock system and tried booting into the rom slot. Biggg no no. Came to realize the phone boots into stock before stock slot...so I couldn't even boot into safestrap...just got a samsung logo boot and black screen. It wouldnt even charge either. Luckily knox wasnt tripped because that was the only way to get the phone to work. Dont make a noob move like what I did. Im still embarresed that happened and I been flashing for about 3-4 years now.

It seems unusual or at least that's how it's coming across that no developers are interested in rooting mj5. Am I not aware of the reason for this, or is there something going on? I've never seen this quiet a forum for an AT&T phone in terms of development (apart from the bootloader issue) and rooting.

Root with kingo. I did. I definitely have high battery drain that may or may not be from that.
The development for this phone is weak in general, locked bootloader will do that. At&t has sheisty coverage and locked bootloaders..I dunno how they keep so many customers. I'm out right after the holidays

Sheisty coverage? Try tmobile or sprint and see how well their coverage is. Virgin and all others just borrow towers from the larger entities. Good luck.

I had sprint for years. I had no 4g so that's why I left, but as far as coverage..they killed at&t where I live. That's the thing, our locations obviously vary and signal strength won't always be the same. Common sense I thought. Sprint never dropped a call, had GPS drop out repeatedly or drained my battery in about 8 hours looking for a better signal.
I agree with t mobile. Verizon may be in my future..at least there's development there and my job has a Verizon tower and discount. I just hate their nickel and dime ways..but it's looking like my only option.

I would have, if there weren't security concerns around using Kingo. Root De La Vega was so easy? Why isn't there another simple method to root mj5?

There is no security issue with Kingo.. That was just hype over the early version. If you read their TOS it sates they do not receive any data from your device or PC. So if they are caught sharing anything then they are violation of their own agreement and then subject to law suit.
I also have use it on MJ5 and notice no change in performance other then athe custom padlock at boot which does not bother me.
I rooted with kingo.

Is it worth losing root over? Opinions needed, I'm also willing to go to bank of America.
Sent from my SM-G925A using XDA Free mobile app
I can only give a very subjective answer to this. Yes, I think it's worth it. Samsung pay actually works very well, and allows you to seriously start using your phone as your primary payment method. Not to mention that there are obvious security benefits as well.
I have rooted all my other devices, but haven't felt that root would bring a significant benefit to the s6, other than to clear bloatware.
In my opinion if you are used to root then you will miss it with a passion. I bought the new note 5 and regret it. Samsung pay is a nice way to pay for stuff. But how hard is it really to grab your card out of your pocket. I am getting rid of this note asap because I miss the things you can do with root. I would really think about it before making that decision.

With all these security vulnerabilities that have arose over the past couple weeks like the virus that can root your phone or the security exploit in Chrome that seems to be all over the internet today (11/13/15) both claim to root the device and cause malicious problems, is it possible to reverse engineer these viruses and security problems so that we would be able to root our AT&T S6 and the S6 Active's?
