so i have always been super happy with the speed and battery life of my MotoX but just randomly it started being really slow and Google Services and android core apps has been eating up a bunch of my battery life and the phone as a whole has noticeably slown down. So much that when i pull up my dialer it wont show any recent or favorite contacts for about 30 seconds and when i use gmail i can type an entire email address before it gives me the suggestion which both things used to be instantaneous. i have tried getting rid of any newish apps i downloaded with no luck... does anyone have any other ways of trying to fix this before i try a factory reset? im fully stock on 4.4.2
Try art runtimes but first try a safeboot.

My phone is only about 3 weeks old now, but after a day or 2 of normal, heavy usage it starts to lag. A reboot always seems to clear up the problem and it runs super fast for the day and then all of a sudden it starts lagging again. It's most notable when I lock the phone and then try to unlock it again within a minute. It just hangs there and won't respond for up to 30 secs or so. It's really frustrating if I get a phone call and try to answer it.
It seems to me that there is something that's running in the background that is eating up resources, but I can't seem to tell what it is. I'm currently running Google Now Launcher, but I've seen the problem with stock TouchWiz as well. Is this a common problem and anyone have a solution for it. I love the phone with this one exception.
Thanks
I'd also like to add that when I go into battery usage, "Android System" seems to be very high. Any ideas what is causing Android System to be my highest battery drain?
Hello there,
Last few days I have noticed that when I am on mobile data my battery drains quite faster than usual. It draıns slightly more than %2/h when I leave the phone during sleep period. I have searched around for a solution, I disabled google sync, cleared google app data, location is off, android device manager is off, tried package disabler pro, restarted the phone. It wasnt an issue before. I dont know how this happened it is really frustrating. Google services and email sync is always at the top of battery usage unless I use the phone very heavily on screen. I am not rooted and actually dont want to root since I am really new to android and not comfortable doing it. When I checked smart manager after 2 hours of usage, both google services and email sync had around 25minutes of connection time.
One more concern, I am having scroll stutter/jittery scrolling in most apps. This is more noticable on Facebook app, very harsh on Shazam and whatsapp emoji menu. I wonder if a better launcher can provide better scrolling. Read some posts this happens due to scrolling cache but I have no idea how to deal with it.
Thanks in advance. I would appreciate any further tips to get better performance/battery life out of the phone.
Update: Deleted google play services and phone forced me to update it again. Google services drain seems better but email sync stays the same. Additionally 'Cell Standby' drain occured now. This is really strange.
I love the phone, but actual use doesn't drain the battery quickly, but standby does. I use avast battery saver, and it doesn't help. Over 20 minutes I lost 2 percent, or 1 percent every 45 minutes. It's annoying how quickly it drains. I have the unlocked edition with 6.0 for two days now, and battery life hasn't improved. Ive wiped the cache and have done a reset, but to no avail. Should I root and go to a different ROM, or try something else? thanks.
What kind of apps do you have installed? Have you gone into the battery details to see what's using the battery? I have had CM 13 and like it, but can't really tell much difference between it and stock besides having much better control and customization, things that I find it hard to live without (granted, I only had stock 6 for a few hours).

AH this is my other account, but i have instagram and snapchat being the only auto refresh apps, and snapchat only loads when i open it so it doesnt sync when its on standby, and ive reinstalled instagram. Without it, nothing changes. So im at a loss as to changing roms or sticking with stock
Have you looked at the 'Battery' section in settings to see what it says about per-app usage? It lists the apps by how much each one has used, and gives useful information about how long each one has been active, how many times it has woken the phone, etc..... Not sure about stock, but in CM13 it even estimates how many mAh each one has used. I would try to figure out what exactly is using the battery before switching to a custom rom (unless you're wanting to switch anyway), because there's a chance that if it's a specific app that's causing the drain it will still do it on a custom rom. I would also get rid of any battery or system managers, savers, optimizers etc... I'm not saying that none of them ever work, but obviously they're not working for you, and could be part of the problem.
I don't lose any more than 5 percent overnight on CM13. There are only 3 issues [that I am aware of] that you may have going from stock to Cyanogenmod: Moto voice doesn't work (OK Google does), Android Pay probably won't work, and if you use Google Cardboard you'll have to change the dpi settings in display options, which is no big deal. The one thing that I miss from stock is Moto voice and being able to wake the phone with my customized hot phrase. Other than that everything 'just works' and is smooth, stable and super fast. And gets an update almost every day.
Phone: Moto G2 XT1068
ROM: Stock MM (final)
Rooted
Xposed + GravityBoxMM
Like many on MM I have been getting the dreaded 'Google Play Services' service draining up to 20% of my battery. It didn't start straight away but developed over time.
After extensive log combing and forum trawling, the best I could find was to disable some of the sync services I didn't need in my Google account. This only helped a little.
I was all ready to factory reset and perhaps try a battery friendly ROM such as AOSP, when the thought occurred to me to try wiping my cache first, so I did.
It was like getting a new phone. It's now more responsive (I hadn't noticed that it was laggy until the lag was gone, so it can't have been that bad) and the mystery battery drain was gone. Yesterday I plugged it in before going to sleep with 38% remaining and more than 2 hours screen on time. Google play services wasn't even on the list of battery eaters.
This might not work for everyone, but it's an easy thing to try.
[TL;DR]
Wipe your cache in TWRP, it might make things a whole lot better.
After updating to 9.1.0.252 I noticed faster battery drain. Did any of you experience the same behavior? I'm thinking to go back to 9.0.1.
Thanks
I feel the same

Don't forget that our device/battery is getting older with every update?.
It might look like new but mine is already 2 years in use.

I noticed faster battery drain on my ltr-09 as well. All is fine now. I noticed when i first upgraded location was turning on alot almost like it was learning when to turn on. Then it levelled out. Example opening google now at first it always turned on my gps now it doesnt. When i was on 9.01 i left my phone on battery saving for gps. You cant on 9.1 and i have seen alot of apps that used to be good with battery saving location now going for full with gps. Big bttery drain. Those were the differences i found. What I believe solved my battery drain was actually my battery getting all screwed up. I had this happen when i would switch roms and my battery stats would get all messed up. I solved it before and solved it this time with my p10 by running the thing right dead. Then pluging it in overnight with it turned off (no fast charging) Then I did it again the next night drained to dead , plug in charge with off ( no supercharging) and my battery life is better again. Hope this helps. EDIT After a few days of testing i still felt the battery was better but battery life still wasnt right. I did a factory installed minimal apps. Battery life was good until play store updated carrier services. I uninstalled updates to carrier services, disabled auto update. Then i actually disabled carrier services completely. Battery seems good now. From what i read carrier services is for next gen texting. Saw online others were having issues with this update.

Wrong, batteries get older with time and charging cycles. Updates have nothing to do with it and if you notice a drain right after one - it has nothing to do with the condition of the battery, it's the update's fault.
updates are huawei's way to convince you to buy a new phone
first they borked the camera, now they are messing with battery
I managed to improve battery life a little bit by disabling apps running in background and disabling unnecessary location permissions for several apps like @bigshowjh said. Like @bigshowjh said I found apps resetting their permission or settings after update. Still the battery life is not like it was before updating with the same usage behavior.

I have ran a couple of days with very good battery life. 11.5 hrs with 62 percent left. Seems like it used to be with Oreo. Overview of all I did was as follows. Clear cache partition, factory reset . Uninstalled Google Chrome (used Firefox instead) set carrier service to factory in apps three dots advanced. Disabled automatic update of carrier services in play store, then in settings apps disabled carrier services completely. Went through and disabled network access to every app that doesn't need it. I don't use Facebook or Facebook Messenger apps. I use them through my browser. Oddly chome on pie is a battery killer as well. I'm very satisfied with proformance of my P10 again.
My GPS is pretty much always off (unless I really need it) and the battery level still goes down by 9% during the night. It used to be 3-4%.
I cannot find carrier service anywhere.
In my case I can't see power hungry apps in the stats, standby process uses the most energy.

Settings, apps, apps again, select three dots in upper right, select show system processes. You will find it there it's a little hidden lol.
Still no carrier services for Play Store.
