It literally appeared today. At first I thought it was a dead pixel but it's not completely black it's gray and also I looked at it with a magnifier and it's not square it's like a blob.
Is there any way to get it out or something without taking the phone apart? Since it got there randomly today and wasn't there out-of-box.

Dust shouldnt get under the screen so bring it back.

It's miniscule and they will probably think I'm crazy what if they don't give me a new one, no solutions?

They way the screen is manufactured should prevent any dust form ever getting inside the screen. There is a special "goo" that is filled in between the gap of the lcd and digitizer. Any dust in the screen was left there in the manufacturing process. I had the same issue, I just went to the place I bought the phone and exchanged it. Now I am happy.
I actually have a speck under my screen too. I've only had my One a little over a week and I noticed it a few days ago when I decided to check for dead pixels since a few people have had them. Thought it was at first, like you did, but I see it with my screen off. I'm on AT&T so are they known to try to brush off a little spot like that? I know they really shouldn't be able to professionally but I just don't want anybody to try to give me any lip for complaining.
If there is a potential opening for dust I sure as hell don't want any more and muddy up a beautiful device. Sounds like I should exchange mine too, huh?
I really hope this isn't going to be a problem, the sensation was plagued by this issue, but it had no where near the level of build quality of the One. I sent my sensation back to htc and they replaced the screen. If it gets worse then send it back.
I havent tried bringing my phone back yet for the dust but this is the second One I've had because the first kept shutting off by itself so if anything you could fib and say it keeps restarting itself randomly on you cause then they'd had to excange it HAHAHA I have AT&T too and they can be **** heads when you try to get replacements
Good luck!

Hello,
I recently bought a used droid 4 and it has the ear piece crackle problem. I have read numerous threads about failed ear pieces and none seem to have a fix. Does opening the phone and using a different glue to hold the speaker or replacing it with a new speaker help at all? I really want to keep this phone because I love it aside from the crackle.
Returning the phone to Verizon or Motorola isn't an option because I bought this phone to replace my failing Droid 3 and I'm holding out on an upgrade for the Droid 5.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
I am fortunate enough that my D4 doesn't have this problem, but I know a lot of people are stuck with this. If you try either of your suggestions report back for everybody else.
Krooked All Day...
I successfully replaced the earpiece speaker in mine with an OEM replacement off of eBay for about $7. Dropped it in and worked perfectly, but be warned, if you replace it with another genuine OEM part, the same thing will eventually happen. Mine is already crackling again.

I got mine from some cell phone doctor website. It was an easy fix to swap it out.... just go get one of those tiny kobalt torques screwdriver kits at kohls. Get a normal one and a torques one.... they are essential in nnormal life lol. Be carful removing the battery and the cast cover on the back. the battery bneeds to be unscrewed with two screws first and the case has the built in antennas attached. this dummy here ripped the battery from the charging terminals and removed the sticker from the bottom on the case only to realise it was an antenna lol

I'd think so, as long as you get really good contact before you glue it, and maintain pressure while it sets.
My screen bit the dust before I got around to repairing my last unit "for good" but the earpiece had degraded into complete silence. Based on some "tighten the faceplate screws" advice I'd gotten, I got by for a couple of weeks with a brutally simple solution: keeping a finger wrapped over the top of the phone, pressing gently just to the left of "Motorola."
When do these problems tend to show up? I've noticed sometimes my earpiece is a bit wonky

mines is screwed since i dropped with case.....gotten a lil better over time but would like to replace it.
Hello,
Try the earpiece from Nokia Lumia 610. Much cheaper and i think it's a little bit louder. Fits perfectly. I replaced mine with it and it's working well.

4pcs $3.99 on ebay with free shipping.
Works in my droid 4 without any problem.
this problem is caused from dropping the phone and getting the speaker wet (ie sweat). the moto oem part is junk. im on my 6th. gonna try the nokia part next.
Confirmed. Nokia lumia earpiece works perfect.
Another Nokia Lumia 610 success story - thanks for the info everyone.
So get this, i've been fighting with FutureTel ( repair center) and HTC over a warranty on my One m7. The speakers started to show signs of failure, calls were crackly and popping. My phone has been in the Official double dip case since i got it in may. The case has a major flaw, it causes scratches on the device when you use it, either from dusty rubbing or taking it off and on. So it lightly scuffed the front camera lens to a point where when you use it the image looks a little foggy.. No big deal, i'm not some 16 year old girl taking selfies... So I sent it in.. 2.5 weeks later i get an update " Please authorize the replacement of the LCD display, upper and lower speaker grills due to physical damage"... What?
According to FutureTel, they will not replace the speakers because I have light scratches on the grills.. And because the grills are "fused" to the mid frame, they have to replace the LCD display too.... $329.00.
Hope in the sweet hell does light scratches void a god damned warranty!!
So I called HTC, surely they will think this is absurd... nope, "Warranty is at the discretion of the repair facility. HTC has no say in what is or isn't considered physical damage".. word for word from an HTC Rep.
Completely blown away... Now i will need to either pay $35 to get it back as is, or cough up $330.00 + $45.00 per speaker = $420.00 to get my blown speakers fixed.
This HTC One has been my nightmare device since Day 1. this is the 5th time it has been in for repair and the 4 times before this one, the scratches were present and had no problems...
Anyone else get this crap? Am I the only poor sob that bought an HTC One that has had this many issues..
I have not had any of those issues.. But if it were me i would bring up the last part about it being in multiple times for issues..
Also im guessing your not in the USA.. I say this because you sent the device in for repair to a non HTC facility..
Is it possible to deal with HTC directly for repair?
The speaker grilles are not 'fused' to the mid frame. They are glued. Sounds like FutureTel is trying to pull a fast one.
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk Pro
No, HTC does not want us to ship to them. They out sourced FutureTel for all Canadian based repairs..
As for the grills, I know, but it's pointless freaking out over the phone to a call center drone, they are just too low in the power chain to do a damned thing.
I've already talked to HTC and convinced a support tech that this is just stupid! Scratching the door on a car doesn't void the power-train warranty...
So now i'm waiting on HTC's RMA department to step in.
As a side note, i said this to the manager at the local carrier store and he actually spent a few minutes trying to convince me that the phone wasn't actually a car.... Guy's a moron.
Screamed loud enough to get HTC to replace my screen and camera lense/speaker grills AND do the warranty work i sent it in for, and cover it all under warranty.
Nice! Future tel are bunch of scumbags

Did HTC end up doing the repair or the repair company that was trying to cheat you?
HTC stepped up and told the repair depot to do the repair... and some.
Anyone else notice hairline cracks forming around their Moto X... I have a white X so it's a little more noticeable because the contrast (dirt). I have one at the top (center) near the headphone port, and two on each side of the volume rocker. This reminds me of the iPhone 3GS problems. Another question I have for those that DO have them, have you contacted Motorola for service/warranty replacement?
I've seen this on photos on swappa. When did a quick search, I found pictures of cracks by the headphone jack and around the sim cover.
https://forums.motorola.com/posts/83eb1c001a
Thanks for the link... I didn't even check the sim tray side... Seems as if I'm not the only one
Just an update;I got off the phone with Motorola warranty repair. They will repair or replace my device and send me a loaner in the meantime ( with a security deposit)...
Not too bad
Ya I got three. Two on the Sim card side and one on the volume rocker side. Seems decently solid still so I won't be taking it in.I might tho lol.
Not for sure who your carrier is but I had the same issue.... Called AT&T. They're aware of this issue. Received a new x in the mail the next day under warranty!
Sent from my XT1058 using Tapatalk
If this minor flaw is a common thing....I'd rather just keep my phone.....rather than get another that will probably do the same thing. My phone works flawless. What if I got a less flawless phone in return. Lol

I had the same issue with a white woven back. One by the sim tray and one by the audio jack, but they only really showed up once i removed the back cover. I've since swapped it out with a wooden back (Walnut i think?) where i haven't had any of the same issues.
I haven't noticed any. I waited a couple months to order my phone so it's not from the first run. Perhaps they improved the material later.
First run black VZ model here. I noticed a couple near the SIM tray. Think they showed up last month. Nothing major, but if it spreads... Then I'll look into warranty repair / replacement.

Are people with the problem storing the phone in a pocket where it gets stressed when you sit down etc? Obviously the casing is too brittle, just wondering if it cracking from flexing when in a pocket.
None on mine....but it's been in an otter box from the get go.

I am looking to buy this phone and would like to know: all these cracks seem to be on the back cover, correct? If so - isn't it user-replaceable? Why is there a need to send it in for repair?

The Moto G's back cover is user replaceable, not the Moto X.

Yes, the majority of these cracks seem to be on the back cover. The back is not supposed to be user replaceable on the Moto X. It doesn't look to be too difficult to remove the back as it's just tabs and one big glue spot. Here's the iFixit teardown so you can see how to remove the backing.
Just an update;
So I've been happily using my loaner phone while my original X was being repaired. Today FedEx dropped off my original phone, un-repaired. Same hairline cracks, absolutely no changes to the phone. Called the warranty department, explained my frustrations, and the rep could only "speculate" that it wasn't repaired because they deemed it physical abuse yet, nothing in the repair notes state that.... While typing this reply, Motorola called me back asking if I wanted to keep the loaner phone instead of re-sending my original back in for repair. So after 2 weeks, a minor mess up on Motorolas part, I've got a brand new phone.
TLDR; after a slight hiccup, Motorola replaced my old phone with a brand new device.
So what should I do if I planed to buy this device? I don't eat a device that will crack without any reason

Wouldn't it be easier to eat if it cracks up easy?
And seriously. These are a handful of people posting about this issue. That really doesn't mean its all devices. Or this thread would have hundreds of posts reporting the issue.

Mine has hairline cracks on the edge of the back cover. These happened from dropping it in its protective case. 0 damage on the actual phone except for these cracks.
Seems like a weak cover. Anybody eles?
i had one on the very back, up the V on verizon and it was about 1 1/2 inches long. told Motorola and i got a code for a new one. hope they can help you out!
Spilled some kind of liquid on my phone during new years (Beer, water, who knows). Phone was off the next day and speaker blown. No other signs of damage. It was in my otter box commuter case so don't know how much actually got in.
When I first got the phone the speaker sometimes sounded partially blown and other times fine. Now its full on crackly and hard to hear. Not sure if its from water damage or just finally blew. I got a replacement from Verizon but before I return the old one, I wanted to be sure the liquid damage pad hasn't gone off and they charge me $500. Anyone know where its at on the Turbo?

Found them in this teardown video:
Motorola Droid Turbo XT1254 Disassembly / Tear Do…: http://youtu.be/l_AOQ6U2Zb0
There's two, one next to the headphone jack at the top right of the phone and one inside the bottom left of the phone. Neither is visible without taking the back cover off
