Bootanimation Change - LG G Flex

Interesting thing happened to me today... I changed my bootanimation and soft bricked my phone :crying: So I am currently in the process of restoring 4.2.2 with LGF tool, no harm no foul... However, I was wondering if anyone else ever had this problem? I didn't have TWRP installed, otherwise I could have reverted to the stock animation and see if that would cure it. Did I have to reflash? Or is there some other trick to get past the boot animation?

I havent had any issue with the boot animation I've flashed a couple new ones and ive copy n pasted one or two to system/media folder and I've used romtoolbox pro to change it. No issues.

[Q] bootanimation.zip location

Hello all,
I tried installing a custom boot animation in /data/local but it didn't work. Any ideas where the bootanimation.zip should go on this phone?
Thanks
There is a folder called /bootimages. May want to check it out and see if that is what you are looking for.
Tried that. No joy there either.
I haven't checked into it myself yet, but in system/bin there is a boot animation file. I don't know if those are it, but a good place to check.

I'm guessing this is to replace the Verizon animation? I can't stand having sounds when I try to power on the phone in a steathy manner...

Yah, already killed the sound though. Found that one in /system/sounds/power/poweron.wav

Anyone else notice keylogger and keylogger_test in that folder as well?
Boot animation process is not android standard style.
Next decrapped rom will not use LG's weird boot animation service, and will contain a neato new bootscreen I'm working on
The LG Revolution uses .rle files for the boot animation. I have yet to find any software that will allow me to edit these files. It is definitely not the normal way most androids have for their boot animation.

[Q] Bricked?

I was attempting to work through applying the .218 update to my droid 4. It was giving me a system validation error while when it was running in recovery. I found a thread that stated I needed to replace the apks and odex's as well as the build.prop. I didn't read it carefully enough as it said to replace *THE* problem ones. My validation error was on the build.prop file, I think.
In any case, I was using root explorer to copy *ALL* the files from a base zip file's app folder into the /system/app folder. Things were going along fine, until the phone app forced closed, then the phone rebooted.
Now I'm boot looping.
What can I do? I don't have any safe straps.
Can't access safestrap? Stock recovery? Adb services?

thanks for the reply...
I don't have safestrap installed on the device, and I've never used it. I don't think that's an option, unless you have something up your sleeve there
As for Stock recovery, I'd love to give it a try, but I don't know how that would work. I can't get to ADB because I can't boot the phone.
I *CAN* get into the bootloader. From there, I can get into recovery, AP Fastboot, BP SBF Flash BP boot... and others.
So, I'm hoping there's some kind of way to push to the device from one of the boot loader options. I've had a Droid 1, and a number of other android devices, but I've never gotten this far into a hole before.
again... thanks for whatever you got
It doesn't look good my friend, not without a SBF to flash. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head would be to try flashing the update again and cross your fingers that you got things in place before the bootloop. However I'm 99.9% sure that won't work. If I find anything else I'll let you now, but at this point you might be a sitting duck.

I have the update on the SD Card, and nope, flashing it results in the same system validation error, and a bootloop.
thanks. Do you think that flashing the RAZR sbf's would get me a booting device? I only got the thing 14 days ago. Maybe I can exchange it

If you're still in the 14 day return window I would try to return it. If it can't get past the bootloader than they won't know you rooted it. Just tell them you tried to do the update and it bootlooped. That's probably you're safest bet.

I'm heading down there in a few minutes. Thanks for the help all ! I think I'm getting the razr maxx. My wife has one and the screen on that thing is incredible. I think it's worth losing the keyboard to get that screen... and the battery life. That part is also incredible.
again.. thanks.
BTW, you guys absolutely rock. You've helped me out of some serious holes with my OG Droid and other devices more often than I can count.

You can use bp tools to push over a clean system. I believe theres a tutorial somewhere that written for bionic. Just replace that with the droid 4 system. I would extract it from one of the stock roms available and push it thru bp tools.

Can you link that tutorial? I'm also trying to figure out how to use adb via stock recovery. Thanks!

It sounds like OP is going to exchange their phone, but could you really just replace the entire /system folder and have it work? (Nothing special with permissions, etc?)
If so, that is definitely something worth knowing...
Yes i believe so.

[HOW TO] Restore S4 Samsung Boot Animation

This is originally taken from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41197343
How to Restore Original Samsung Boot Animation
This requires Root and a root file manager.
1 - Download and extract the S4_Original_BootAnimation.zip
http://db.tt/j1qlUFIY
Make sure you have R/W permissions in system/media before copying over.
2 - Copy the files from the S4_Original_BootAnimation.zip to the system/media folder replacing the original files.
SPR_bootsamsung.qmg
SPR_bootsamsungloop.qmg
SPR_shutdown.qmg
(I renamed my originals just to be safe.)
Alternately, if you do not want to download; you can make a copy of, and rename the bootsamsung.qmg bootsamsungloop.qmg and shutdown.qmg that are already located in your system/media folder.
Reboot your phone and you should no longer see the sprint animations.

You probably want to put something in the OP to make sure you check and change permissions when needed. I had to change mine.

Do this include the sound also?
I love the 90s. Good times.
I don't think so, I still had the sound when I followed the instructions
I made this into a flashable zip for those that want it.

The title could be confusing. This does not restore the original "Sprint" boot animation. It installs the original "Samsung" boot animation. The one used on the international S4.

[Q] LG G Flex D958 Recovery

Hello,
Does anyone have a clue on how we can Install a custom recovery on the G Flex D958? I've tried several solutions like Flashify and manually running commands through Terminal Emulator and once it supposed to be installed, it restart and then jump right into the launcher, and it's impossible to access to the recovery, assuming the recovery was actually never installed.
The Flex doesn't have a custom recovery yet. I would be careful on messing with your phone without it.
Weird...

Developers
Where are all the LG Developers? No love for the Flex? Its a powerful device that screams feed me! I want some custom ROMs.
Theres plenty of lg dev working on it. Its just with the bootloader being locked down better than ever we are having a little trouble finding a hack or work around. Ive got an apk that will install cwm. Ive posted pics and used it. It works. I actually had to use the backup I made ,as soon as I got into cwm, today to restore due to my home button quit responding. Why? I dont know that yet but it restored perfect. Cache and dalvik wipe fine. Only issue is you can't boot to cwm from power off position. Must use apk. So its kinda pointless unless you can boot safe mode. Like I did today. We havent posted the apk or intstructions due to not finished yet and it deletes your factory recovery. So youre f*$&#d if you brick due to no factory recovery. And we dont want peep rushing in and installing then boom theyre dead and hoise burns down.
